Listen Schneids, this is what youtube is all about. You explain, in detail, how to perform the process AND explain other things to look out for. I need to buy you beer. Thank you man!
@@Schneids15 so I'm dealing with leaking, too low of idle and it sputters at top end unless the airbox cover is absent. After seeing your video for Chinese carb, well, I found the issue! Going on a search for a Mikuni! Dude, I really do appreciate your knowledge!
One of the most sensible and down-to-earth presentations on working on a carb rebuild. Extremely well done. My compliments and appreciation...I understand a WHOLE lot more now than before I started.
Thanks Jim. This is just coming from a country boy just a down to earth video is what i tried for. Glad it helped and thank you for the nice comment. Josh
I was cleaning my carb and used your video and for some reason I was having trouble adjusting the idle screw to where it would run right, and it was running really rich. I had put the clip on the needle on the highest spot to try to get it to seat lower to not allow more gas in. After hours of adjusting I finally got it to idle. Then when I put my air box back on it wouldn’t even start. After reviewing your video again I found that on the needle I was putting spacer, washer then clip on the needle not washer, clip and lastly spacer. Thanks your the good video.
I was given a 93 king quad and I’m restoring it from ground up and this is my first quad rebuild but your video was excellent. Thank you for taking the time and making quality videos.
Awesome videos. Thank you for making the time to create them. I love this bike when it's running. It was way ahead of it's time. Mine sat for years after buying a UTV and won't run now. After following your videos I was able to get the carb apart and cleaned up. I replaced the petcock as it had failed as well. Now we just need a video of getting the darned carb back in and the intake boot on. I imagine it'll be a 6 hour video with lots of cussing, kicking, and beer. Then we realize the carb needs more attention and do the process all over again.
Thanks for the video! My 1999 250 quadrunner would not run without the choke fully on and feathering the throttle. Took my carb apart, cleaned it and put it back in with the help of the video. Now starts right up and runs without the choke!
@@Schneids15 got a quick question for you. im trying to get a buddies 94 king quad 300 going that he has had sat for a while. thats what brought me to your videos. i figured first thing id do was clean the carb. but got thinking what if the motor is ceased. no point on doing the carb. the battery is no good on the thing. and i cant seem to pull start it. it wont budge . i seen your video on how to pull start it and that combushion flap you flip. when i flip it it does not stay flipped. the spark plug has rust on it. i guess long story long. is there another way i could tell if the motor is ceased without having to waste money buying a new battery? perhaps trying to pull start it behind a truck or something? .
Wanted to say thanks for the video. Just bought a 300 that had been stored outside and would sometimes start but not run. Used your video to remove 3 dead bugs from the float bowl and now runs great. Now have to try getting 1st gear to engage and the front brakes to work. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks bud your video help me get her running it's running perfect it's at for 15 years and it needed the carburetor cleaned bad but thanks your video I'm riding around right now thanks again.
I have been watching your videos like crazy: you are definitely the go to go for these quads. I have an Arctic cat 300, same engine as the king quad. I’ve done everything I can think of. It has great compression, did a leak down test, no leaking at top dead center, lots of spark, timed it just as the manual explained. It won’t start? It farted a couple times but that’s it. Help!!!!
Hey Dude, Thanks so much. My plugs were just going black dispite changing plugs etc. Pulled the carb apart. cleaned all the jets as per your vid. Never run better. Had the bike 15 years
This is just in time! I am getting started on a 98 King Quad, been sitting a while. Bought it as a project for my daughter and I to tinker with. Should be fun. Gonna start with a carb cleaning, adjust valves, and see how she runs. I was told that it smoked, so maybe new rings soon as well. Thanks for the videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks for this video. Great detail including removal. I have done this before but it is not like most carb removals and disassemblies. Your video makes it very clear. Also you made a good point about test running with hoses installed. I didn't know that so it was part of why I couldn't get the engine started after rebuild. I also was unclear about how many turns the fuel mixture should have been (I forgot to count when removing it 😣). That rubber air feed hose connecting to the carb is the most awkward part of this job. More time is spent on reinstalling that darned thing than any other part of the servicing. I sure wish the rubber was more pliable. Thanks again for posting this. Any other videos coming for the Suzuki King 300?
Hey Paul! Thanks for the comment! 😁 I am always looking for new king quad videos to produce. I have trouble thinking of ideas actually. Yes for sure in the future i will post more👍🏻
A tip for those who struggle with putting the carb back in with the airbox and intake hoses, take off your top plate where the range knobs are, remove the bolt holding the white snorkel and slide it back, then carefully cut off those back tabs on the airbox, it makes it MUCH easier to remove and replace the carb when needed. I can now tune the carb a lot faster and easier. Just make sure that it is secured (I used zip ties) and not touching the exhaust that is close to it.
Watched this a couple times - will watch a couple more as I work on my carb for the first time. Really appreciate your work here. This is way overdue on my '97. Had an episode where I ran out of fuel, adjusted the petcock to reserve, ran out again (quickly), filled tank, ran briefly, quit, got grey smoke out the exhaust when cranking, then no starting (piston just wouldn't move). So, I'm doing the carb. Found fuel in the air intake box soaking the bottom of the filter. My fuel has leaked to the point where the remainder is flush with the top of the petcock (longer) intake. I want to remove the petcock next. Do you see any issue with me tipping the machine on it's right side, so I can remove the petcock without having to empty the fuel tank?
Appreciate this. Got my father's 96 King quad 300. It doesn't run so this is my first thought. Need to find an air filter box for it also. Mine doesn't have one. Also need a right side front CV axle
I just finished a carb rebuild 3/20/21. I have a 96 king 300. I am the sole owner. It would smell like it was running rich after shut off. The mid range circlip was set in the fourth groove and the idle screw was four turns out. I used the new needle and put the circlip in the middle of the five grooves and set the idle jet to two and a half turns out. The needle seat retain screw would not turn so I used a craftsman 1/4x4in. chisel #42971 to get it loose (that chisel has come in handy often) and reinstall it. I used a small screw driver handle to hold open the butterfly to install the throttle cable. I used 3in1 oil to lube the inside lip of the rubber boot to install it. I got the bottom of the boot to seat first on each end and used a very very small flat head screw driver to finish getting the top of the boot to seat first on the carb then on the air box. Started right up and after a one mile test ride no rich smell after shut off. Thanks Josh.
That was a great video, thanks for filming. I have 1 king quad and 2 2x4 quad runners and my sister just picked up a 4x4 quad runner but hers is all full idle choke doesn’t work, so i came here to find out a bit more about the choke. Anyways great video it was VERY informative and clear.
thank you i did clean the carburator, the diaphram was destroy, i did get another one but it seems that it's doesn't sit has good has the one on the video. Is it suppose to sit on the groove easy or we have to make it work
Good and thorough Thank-you I have one question about the idle screw on the bottom how many turns out should I turn it if I swP it with the mikunu screw with the adjustment tail
I got mine back from the shop a while back. The carb needed to be cleaned. I wondered why it kept acting "cold natured" and took forever to keep running. Finally I tore into it and found out they had left the pilot screw fully seated. NO WONDER. Well anyway I ended up pulling it off just so I could adjust it. I have it maybe 2 5/8 or almost there per the service manual. The one thing that sucks about how the carb is sitting in there is the fact that you really cannot adjust it while it's running. But it's doing really well now nevertheless. lol.
Nice job! I've got a 94 lt250 Quadrunner, just under 5000 km. I think it has the same carb as your 300. Idle goes REALLY high after a short while of warmup. Happens @ 2 5/8 to 2 7/8 out. Any further out it dies without throttle. Not choking it at all. Some "hiccups" need to be ironed out (adjust valves?) Thanks again! Well done.
I have the same issue on this Quad. On my blue one i have no problems at all. However i tuned that myself and i am pretty sure it is about 5 turns out or vise versa. Something i gotta look into to iron out.
Thanks, Schneids15. I'm gonna pull the carb and clean. I've ordered a rebuild kit just in case. Seems like I had it off 10 years ago to clean/look at it - can't remember now. Your vid is so excellent. Happy riding.
Great video man, rebuilding a 4x4 quad runner carb as we speak but my 2x4 quad runner has that little plastic pieces that threads into the carb on the choke cable is broken. Any chance you know where I can get a new one of those? Otherwise I’m thinking of using a piece of heat shrink I can use to reconnect the cable rubber to said plastic piece.
Hi, super video! Thanks a lot!! I thought it would fix my problem, I have difficulty starting. I have to pull the Choke and push to full gas and IT takes a while to start... There is a hose Near the rear right tire that leaks gas, it has a rubber nozzle...don't know what could be the problem
Enjoyed your video on the King quad. Mine runs if the choke is set all the way. Taking the choke off about half way it dies. The carb was cleaned as to your specs about a year ago. I did notice the rubber was in bad shape where the choke goes in the the carb. Could this be my problem? I have searched on line everywhere for a replacement to no avail. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hey David, yes correct. If that rubber is bad it will run terrible just like that. Unfortunately Suzuki is the only place to get the rubber. I don’t live close to a dealer so i have them ship the parts to me
I have a King Quad that floods outs at idle. The carb has been gone through twice still floods out. Will always start and run, will flood on idle. Do you have anything suggestions. Thinking on replacing carburetor what Mikuni model would you suggest?
what creates the vacuum to operate the vacuum pump on top to operate the fuel pump? crank case? or how does diaphragm move? i just cleaned one and put it back on. but havent connected the air box and filter yet so that may be the issue. not getting any suction coming out for fuel pump. did before taking it off though. yes its back together correctly and tab lined up. i saw that. ive worked on mowers, ope, bicycles, cars, trucks for 20 years but new to atvs and the atv style carb. also working on polaris 200cc phoenix i think it is. about 15 years old. had it running perfect. but drain valve on carb bowl was leaking and not sealing. took carb off. swapped bowls. did quick clean without disassembly of any internal parts, new o ring against block. new air filter. now it backfires like crazy unless choke is half on then it seems to run without back fires. neighbor called cops cause thought i was shooting guns from polaris back fires
As far as the phoenix it sounds like a lean pop. The choke richens it up and makes it run OK. Vacuum is created by the piston going downwards drawing a low pressure.
Hey amazing video helped me rebuild carb on mine after it got its first run in 20 years and runs great but my dads has an issue and don’t know where to start it will turn over but will not fire no matter what the choke is at and I rebuilt the carb
Awesome video. Helped me out a ton. I picked up a free 1993 KQ 300 that was sitting for 3 years in the Arizona heat. I followed your video and was able to get the carb cleaned, oil changed (thanks for your other video on oil changes) and the quad started right up to my surprise. I do have a problem though. The thing Idles super high in neutral but as soon as I put it in gear the idle drops down. Though I put choke back wrong. That didn’t change anything. Tried spinning the idle adjustment but nothing changes. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment. I assume you set the carb idle to 2 5/8 turn out like i said in the video? I would set the idle up in neutral first. Check the end of your choke fitting where the plastic meets that kinda rubber boot thing and give the cable a wiggle and see if that settles it down. I have had an air leak around that cable cause that issue before. Also check that your vacuum lines are all hooked up.
Wonder if I might enlist some help? Same year and model, now with a new carb, fuel pump, flushed system and resealed and gapped valves and valve cover. It starts and idles sweetly but when I try to accelerate, it bogs. About 1/3 throttle onward. I'm starting to suspect electrical 'cause I've replaced pretty much everything else. Thoughts? And gratitude. . .
Steve go for fuel 100% in my opinion from this comment. Is the carb genuine mikuni/ suzuki? If so go to vacuum lines. Is there any fuel in the vacuum lines? Josh
@@Schneids15 Thanks for taking the time and trouble of the reply and I'll pursue your suggestions, to be sure. I also removed the oil filler cap while the engine was idling and the blowby is quite significant. Therefore, I'm also going to do a compression check. Stand by and again, thank you, Josh! And no, I confess- not a new Mikuni. . .From across the sea but the same issue existed prior to changing out the carb. . .
Wrong thread size for my spark plug hole/compression test, so no joy there! But no fuel in the vacuum lines and the pump is squirtin' like a champ. Still, the same issue: Starts just fine, idles fine but refuses throttle. Gonna pull the China carb once more. Needle set @mid-point? Fuel adjustment screw setting? Float level setting? I seem to have read somewhere the float level is super-critical. Thanks again for taking the time and trouble in replying, Josh!
Hello sir I'm doing a carb rebuild on 2002 suzuki vinson auto is the float bowl needle seat supposed to come out I've been trying with pliers kinda gouge it a little
Good video but I'll add when you takeoff the choke cable be sure you also remove the brass piece that's on the cable, I didn't and it fell into the engine area. I was on grass and couldn't find it, look all over. Then I put a black blanket under the atv and shock real hard and it fell out onto the blanket, lucked out.
Hi Schneids 15 I was wondering how I would rise up my idle speed on my 1994 king quad 300 ? it will die most of the time, when idling... There should be an ajusting screw somewhere ????? than you !
First of all, great channel and thank you all the king quad guidance. Any chance you can share any tips on replacing a throttle cable for my 98' king quad 300. The cable broke within the jacketing. How far am I breaking things down from the handle bars to the carb for installation. Much appreciated.
Hey! Sorry i have not had to ever do one. I would suspect just the seat comes off and the plastics around the shift knobs. You can then remove the cable i would suspect.
Have you seen issues from a ripped choke cable boot? I'm having idle issues and suspect my ripped boot could be the cause, but I can't find much online about it.
100%. I have had 3 or more with the issue. Sometimes the plastic nut the cable slides into on the side of the carb will be cracked as well. I always ordered a new nut and boot and fixed issues.
@@Schneids15 Cool. Yeah, my cable is broken at the boot and won't seal. I've got a new OEM cable being delivered today and the nut and rubber boot on order. Youve been a lifesaver in helping me get this thing running! thanks for all the videos!
I have a 1997 King Quad that fires right up cold, idles and runs great. Ride it around about 10 min warms up but once your riding for about 15 to 20 minutes it starts to randomly stall and it won't start again for about 10 or 15 min. I have cleaned the carb, replaced the voltage regulator, fuel pump, and the petcock but the warm stall issue continues. Any recommendations you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I love your channel by the way. Thank you.
Sorry i don’t have it with me right now so i can’t. If you blow into the lines and no resistance they are vent lines. They go on the non barbed fittings on each side of the carb. The other ones that have resistance blowing in are for the fuel pumps. They go on the offset white plastic barbed fitting and metal barbed fitting in the centre. Hope this helps.
@@Schneids15 Any chance you could explain some more about this? Om reverting a King Quad i just purchased that has some unknown non original carb (possibly a early model King Quad carb). So I have no idea what all the ports on my replacement carb has to be hooked up to. But essentially just vent on top and fuel in lower? No vacuum or any fancy stuff?
Some additional info to my question above. My bike has a small low pressure electric fuel pump. So I would think there is no need to think about any fancy vacuum fuel pumps.
Hi trying to fix a friend Suzuki quad four-wheel-drive I can’t find what kind more than that but fuel tank in up and no fuel pump gravity flow. It has the diaphragm for the slide elevator. The lines going to the carb was off. I know only the main fuel line that comes from fuel shut off is correct but it has 3 more lines where do they go? This carb is not like I see on every one else easily taken out this one is under the frame and Close to the starter. Thanks
Hey Josh...I have a tiny black O-ring left over. I think it goes on the needle screw. The one that is screwed all the way in, then backed-off 2 and 5/8 turns. I don't think you removed it in this video. Is that where it goes?
would it be possible for you to do a video on showing different ways on putting on the inlet tube and if there is a way to soften the inlet tube up to make it easier
So cleaned mine would not start kept cleaning again watching your video months later it starts but the exhaust while running would get red hot close to engine now get it to start just have to barely hold open throttle can not get that adjusted any advice
Josh great videos! Just picked up a 94 king quad for 200bucks. Cleaned carb and got her running thanks to your videos. Does it matter where you run the vaccum line comming off the fuel petcock? Carb was completely off when I bought it. My carb has a plastic tube on one side (fuel line side ) and a metal tube on the throttle cable side. Two vent tubes directly behind the diagram? You are the king quad master. Thanks
No vacuum lines do not matter. Plug the one line going to the petcock. It will cause issues if the diaphragm breaks. If it has a barb it is a vacuum line. If not it is a vent.
hey schneids, a rookie here..im wondering if a suzuki 500 quadmaster is a similar tear down of the carb as the one you did on the 300 quadrunner?..im gonna attempt it, my first one ever..its spittin & sputterin at when i rev it. if i use the choke it seems to run smoother..is it starving for gas?...any thoughts would really be great, ty.
awesome vid bud. I just needed to know where the stupid idle adjuster goes after taking my carb out I didn't see where it came from and put it on the wrong side. What that did was make the idle either set itself too low or too high because of the age and that adjuster rusting into it original bend and i moved to the other side not knowing and when i put it back it's great. 1995 250 2x4.
I can't get my carb on my 99 suzuki king quad ltf300f to run right I am getting close but it still dies it will pull start will 3 pushs of the throttle and the chock on it will stay started intell you take the choke off the air screw is set to 1 1/2 turns and the needle is on the 3rd clip from the bottom what should I do I don't got the manual
Awesome Video Mate, I have just pulled the carb out of my Father in laws King Quad 300, and the diaphragm has a small tear in it. Any advise on where to find the part number and the parts for these in Canada? Cheers
I have a 97 arctic cat 300, which I believe is the identical motor. I was told the valves needed adjustment so I bought the feeler gauge and got them to .002 intake and .004 exhaust. It’ll spit and sputter but not start. I’m at tdc on the compression stroke as well but I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong. I heard on a video that u need to go just past tdc but haven’t tried it. Is there any way that the timing may be off and if so is it easy to time the engine? I’m desperate so please, please, please; can you point me in the right direction as far as what might be wrong.
Should be at TDC not past. If your valves are set i am wondering if it is carburetor related. Will it start with a shot of starting fluid or brake cleaner or gas in the intake?
Schneids15 it will chug a little bit after it’s turned over for 15-20sec. I even had it running at one point but it wouldn’t idle or run smooth unless I had the rpms thru the roof. Is it possible the timing is a little off?
I bought an aftermarket Chinese carburetor it does not work in your video you recommended another carburetor to replace the original one what would you recommend to replace the original carburetor what brand or would you go with or would you go with an OEM carburetor
Hi my carb in my quadrunner 250 is a normal mikuni carb from a snowmobile or something and i have problems with bogging when it gets warm. It runs perfect on mid and high range but when i drive really slow on really low rpms it bogs. when i give it a little more throttle it runs fine again. It idles good too. what should i di to make it run right on really low rpms?
Hey man! First I wanted to thank you for a great video. It really helped give me the confidence to tackle this repair without sending it out, couldn’t have done this without your video. However, I was wondering if you could help me trouble shoot an issue... First off, the bike sat for a couple years. I drained the gas, changed the oil/filter, air filter and added fresh gas. It fired right up with no issues. However I wanted to rebuild the carb as it sat so long with old gas. I pulled the carb, used a rebuild kit and replaced all jets/gaskets and followed your directions. It was actually pretty clean, but the jets were a little corroded. After reinstalling the carb, it kicked over on full choke for a minute the than died. After that I could only get it to turn over on full choke, for five seconds, very limply, and as soon as I let go of the start button it quits. Now it won’t start at all. Any idea what could be going on? Could I maybe have mixed up the vent hoses or hav something on wrong? I don’t think it’s the petcock, fuel, or anything like that, as the bike had no issue running before. As far as I can tell, the connections to the air box and from the carb to the motor are on tight. I also saw you mentioned something about the rubber boot on the choke being “over top” what did you mean by that? The machine is a 99 and only has 1k miles on it. I just can’t figure it out and was hoping that you had a tip or something before I have to tear it off and try again. I also have a digital copy of the shop manual I’d be happy to send you for your effort. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or need me to clear off further and thanks again!
Hey man, thanks for the nice comment. I am glad i can help you out. I think you have a vacuum line possibly mixed up. Seems like it isn’t getting much fuel.
Thanks you so much for the reply, and I’ll give that a shot! Is there anyway to sort out which ones go where ? They all seem to be identical black hoses. Is there a way to trace them and determine which ports they correspond with? Thanks again man, I really appreciate it!
My 1997 king quad 300 was sitting for 5 yrs so I’m having to do a lot of work to restore it back to good condition. Started fine after change to new plug but won’t stay running unless I give it throttle. Won’t idle. I drained and added fresh premium shell gas(Canada), 90 octane i think, 1 bottle redline then 2 bottles seaFoam. Btw premium gas is ethanol free in British Columbia, not sure about other areas. That’s my reason for using premium in this machine. I’m trying to avoid having to take carb out and rebuild so is there anything you can suggest or should I bite the bullet and rebuild?
Tks for all those good videos. It makes me understand my KingQuad '93 a lot. Which rebuild kit do you recommand, OEM or Amazon? If amazon do you have one in particular that you like the end result?
I got a king quad 300. It has gas coming out i guess they are the overflow ports that go up between shifter and the small port on the bottom of the carb. Any ideas
@@Schneids15 hey there I just watched your video on the carb cleaning and while spraying the ports out a very tiny rubber oring and a very tiny brass washer hit the ground and I'm not sure where they go back into the carb I tried to watch your video over but didn't see you mention them could you please help me out? thanks 😊
@@Schneids15 yes choke is on. Seems to die the moment I turn choke off. I spray starting fluid into the air filter and it drops RPMS to a normal idle and then after it burns off it shoots back up in RPMS again. I tried taking the air filter off with no difference and the intake boot and all other connections seems to look solid.
So this video is great, let me say that, you made it so easy, with the step by step instructions. So I did this and put everything back together and it will only start with the throttle wide open, and it will not idle, any help or tips you can give me?
Thinking of it now i would make sure the float and needle are seating properly. It could be what is flooding it. Was fuel overflowing out of the carb at all or could you smell fuel a lot?
So first off check your 2 vacuum lines. The one that goes to the fuel petcock and the one that goes to the fuel pump. See if there is gas in them. If so the diaphraghm could have broke on the pet or fuel pump. Not likely but could be a coincidence. It is likely the needle and seat are not seating proper and it is overflowing sue to that. A carb kit should solve that.
Thanks for the great videos. I am rebuilding my 1998 Suzuki Quad after watching your videos. I did great taking the carb out, and dissembly except for the little brass jet that you need a real small slotted screwdriver. I cannot get it out. Will that jet cause me problems ? Thanks, Bob
Hey Bob, so that jet i normally take a real small screwdriver and grind it down to use. If you can shine a light in it and verify it is clear with a magnifying glass or if you have good eyes you will not have to take it out. Let me know if you have issues. Josh
But see remove the air needle on the outside of the bowl the little sticking up I have mine out. I don’t remember if there’s a spring or not hoping to see it in here.
Great video. I have a 1994 king quad 300 and one day I was riding around the yard and it stalled out on me. Immediately started right back up but would only idle. Would kill itself if you Gave it any gas. Took the carb apart and found a little piece of rubber stuck in the main jet. Ended up cleaning the whole carb, put it back together but this time it wouldn’t run at all. Bought a new carb, and now it’s back to where it was from the beginning... starts right up, but you can’t give it any gas without it dying out. It also is idling up real high randomly then isles down and kills itself again.. any help would be extremely appreciated thanks!
Sounds like a loose connection where the choke cable goes in and it is sucking air. Make sure you have the intake boot on or this stalling issue will happen as it will run too lean.
Still no luck. Have the intake boot on, iv tried setting my carb between 2 turns out, 2.5 turns and 3 turns out on the fuel mixture and no change. I bought one of the Chinese carbs you just did a video on and it was hogging down when you’d give it gas just like yours. Starts right up like nothing though. I’m almost to the point where I take half of the parts from the new carb and put them into the old one
Carb (Kehin) is very similar ,pop off side panels to access carb,It also helps to remove fuel tank. And like schneids15 noted hardest part are rubber manifold boots!
A set of JIS spec screw drivers are the ticket when working on these carbs. I replaced all the stripped screws with socket head screws when I did the one on my dirt bike, no different than these. JIS screw heads aren't the same as Phillips, Phillips I think were intentionally designed to strip out lol.
Hi! Any chance you could confirm what and where the vacuum lines go on your carb? I know one is for petcock, one for pump and one is vent. But what is the vent and what are the vacuum ones?
If there is a barb on the end of them it is vacuum. 2 on the far sides of the carb with straight shaft are overflows. The one plastic tit and the metal are vacuum. One to the petcock and one to the fuel pump on the left inner fender. Josh
@@Schneids15 Thank you very much. Im working on it right now 😀 Hopefully I can make it work othervise this thing is getting a new chinede Pwk 38 carb. Suzuki really made the fuel/vacuum system om these bikes to advanced.
Hey mate have you came across the starter flywheel on 250cc / 300cc King quad free spinning I have a 300cc that dropped ext valve and came across a 250cc motor so put that in and the starter flywheel free spins any help would be much appreciated
Purchased same carb you showed. Mine was USA. Same previous issues start and stall. Carbrator has been soaked have rebuilt kit suggestions please, thank you for your time.
Hey man just a quick tip if you didn’t already know, it blew my mind when I found out but - most of these atvs are manufactured using JIS screws, not Phillips, JIS is short for “Japanese industrial standard” and usually they have a small dot on the screw head to signify that they are JIS. That is why almost every carb you come across nowadays has stripped out bowl screws, and stripped out screws all over the machine because 99% of the time they are manufactured in Japan using JIS, and every guy who’s owned it previously has stripped them out using Phillips. I recommend looking into Vessel JIS screwdrivers, they are known for they’re quality, they are true JIS, and you can order them right off Amazon. It’s honestly an unbelievable difference, id recommend anyone who owns an Japanese manufactured atv should at the very least own a #2 JIS screwdriver. It will even remove the mostly stripped Phillips screws quite often as JIS just bites that much more vs Phillips
Had someone professionally rebuild this carb on my king quad 300 and it never would idle and would rev up constantly/backfire like it was getting too much fuel. I took it back apart and adjusted like you did and now it will idle, but if I try to touch the throttle it will shut off. Any suggestions? I have tried moving the pilot screw to 2, 2.5, and 3 turns with very little difference. Throttle issue is still the same. Thank you!
Josh, when you buy rebuild kits for these carbs, who do you order from, I look them up and there are hundreds of sites, and thanks again Josh your vids are very informative..
What year is that KQ 300. I have a 1996, Canadian Version. Also have a 2001 and the carbs are different, even the Canadian and American bikes are different. I ordered a carb on ebay for a 96 and it does not match up. They are great bikes but hard to work on with so many configurations out there. Hopefully your video will help me.
My one is a 1995 and my other is a 1996. They both have the same carbs and every one i have worked on before they changed the style like your 2001 are all the same carbs. I have never run into that before. That is weird.
@@Schneids15 After I posted I saw your chinese carb video and realized that is what I got from ebay and the problems you found were the problems I had, which is why they were different. I thought your KQ was 1996 or 95 because of the cross bar on the handlebars. I do want to thank you for the work and videos, I will be following as i try to get the 96 running, and the 2001 maintained. They do have some problems, but I love my Suzukis, the diff lock, gear ratio, and the super low for plowing, etc. Wish I could find a Mikuni carb, the screws were stripped when I bought the 96, it ran very badly and I tried to fix it and discovered the stripped screws. Thanks again for being there and caring about us Suzuki oldies but goodies,
I have a 300 and it idles super high. It also backfires when I turn it off. The issue is it is difficult to get it into reverse or out of reverse when it is like this. I think it is a safety issue. I turned down the throttle on the right side using the little turn nob but still the same thing. Hard to get it into and out of reverse. Any suggestions?
Ive been having some issues when I start it. I need to feather the throttle when starting it or it will die on me. I've heard that it may be a vaccum line problem, have you heard of this issue? Doesn't matter how the choke is, I need a little throttle for about 5 minutes til it warms right up or it will die. Any help would be appriciated!
Hey Andrew. I think you’re on the wrong path. Sounds like it is running lean til warm. Either richen up the idle for more fuel( likely clean the carb) if not check your carb intake boot for cracks and an air leak causing it to run lean and only run good when warm. Josh
I have a 95 king quad. The choke cable is very sticky and stays on and I don’t need it. Can I just not hook it up to the carb or will that cause issues
Do you know if a China king quad 300 carburetor will fit a Suzuki lt300? I can't find the exact carb and since its a Suzuki and 300 I wonder if it would fit
Hi Schneids, I have a king quad 300 with a mishmash of Chinese and stock carburetor parts. What’s really interesting is that the plastic piece in the middle that guides the slide and holds the emulsion tube wasn’t seated right- carb was flooding right out. It has these plastic ears that stopped it from going down into the bowl far enough. Cut those off and now she’s running nicely, but lean. What I am curious about though is if it’s for the wrong carburetor. Would you mind sending me a close up picture of the throat of the stock carburetor from the air filter side? If it looks pretty close to mine I’ll spend the money on OEM jets to finish the tune up. Thanks!
Not at all. There is different kits for different years. Explain the details to him when checking out as they specify. They are cheap too around 50$ i believe.
Listen Schneids, this is what youtube is all about. You explain, in detail, how to perform the process AND explain other things to look out for. I need to buy you beer. Thank you man!
Probably the best comment i have ever received. I’ll buy you a beer too🤙🏻 Thanks man! Josh
@@Schneids15 so I'm dealing with leaking, too low of idle and it sputters at top end unless the airbox cover is absent. After seeing your video for Chinese carb, well, I found the issue! Going on a search for a Mikuni! Dude, I really do appreciate your knowledge!
Thanks man! I am really not a highly knowledgeable guy! Just going off experience😀
Josh
You are my hero!!! I would have never had the courage to tackle a job like this without your videos. Thank You!!!
I fixed my King Quad fuel problem thanks to your videos. It’s been running dependably for a year now. Thanks.
Thank you for the comment. I am so glad i was able to help you out Lars. Josh
This guy is the best he knows all about King quads
Thanks Chuck
I was given a 93 king quad and I’m restoring it from ground up and this is my first quad rebuild but your video was excellent. Thank you for taking the time and making quality videos.
You're a legend. Been watching your king quad series before I do any work on mine. It's made all the work a breeze, thank you.
Great to hear! So glad my video helped. Josh
guys like you are the real m.v.p's of youtube. thank you so much
Thank you.
Thanks! It was just a quick video that ended up being popular. I am happy it helped you. Josh
Thanks for the King Quad 300 carburetor clean video. Very detailed and helpful much appreciated.
Have two 94 King quads. Thanks for you videos. They help a lot.
No problem i am glad i could help. Run it for a while. The smoke may dissipate and be a good runner who knows. Hope it gets running for ya.
Perfect vid! Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Bro!
Yes for sure in the future i will post more👍🏻
@@Schneids15 can you do a video on the location of the water pump and thermostat, my king quad is overheating so i need to check coolant system
That boot sucks, really tested my patience. Awesome video, thank you.
Thank you much. Your calm, detailed video answers several questions I had. 👍👍
Thank you for the nice comment. Glad it helped!
thank you i did clean the carburator, the diaphram was destroy, i did get another one but it seems that it's doesn't sit has good has the one on the video.
Some "hiccups" need to be ironed out (adjust valves?)
Thanks again!
Yes grab from suzuki. I did and it was fairly cheap surprisingly. If you have the proper piece they run way better and idle smooth.
DUDE YOUR AMAZING!! You helped me a ton!!
I don’t live close to a dealer so i have them ship the parts to me
Did mine, my Quadrunner 300 now runs absolutely perfect. WHat a machine
I have a King Quad that floods outs at idle. The carb has been gone through twice still floods out. Will always start and run, will flood on idle. Do you have anything suggestions. Thinking on replacing carburetor what Mikuni model would you suggest?
Use factory carb. I would replace the needle valve and make sure float height is set correct.
what creates the vacuum to operate the vacuum pump on top to operate the fuel pump? crank case? or how does diaphragm move? i just cleaned one and put it back on. but havent connected the air box and filter yet so that may be the issue. not getting any suction coming out for fuel pump. did before taking it off though. yes its back together correctly and tab lined up. i saw that. ive worked on mowers, ope, bicycles, cars, trucks for 20 years but new to atvs and the atv style carb.
also working on polaris 200cc phoenix i think it is. about 15 years old. had it running perfect. but drain valve on carb bowl was leaking and not sealing. took carb off. swapped bowls. did quick clean without disassembly of any internal parts, new o ring against block. new air filter. now it backfires like crazy unless choke is half on then it seems to run without back fires. neighbor called cops cause thought i was shooting guns from polaris back fires
As far as the phoenix it sounds like a lean pop. The choke richens it up and makes it run OK. Vacuum is created by the piston going downwards drawing a low pressure.
Do you have video of working on the final drive and inner u joint of the king quad?
Quick question, if I buy a new carb can I just throw her in without adjusting anything? Does it come pre tuned
Hey amazing video helped me rebuild carb on mine after it got its first run in 20 years and runs great but my dads has an issue and don’t know where to start it will turn over but will not fire no matter what the choke is at and I rebuilt the carb
Check if you have spark if you don't then put a new spark plug and test your ignition coil cable and if there all good you could have a bad cdi
I’ll check it out. You’re a stud. Didn’t think I’d get a response from you.
Hello sir I'm doing a carb rebuild on 2002 suzuki vinson auto is the float bowl needle seat supposed to come out I've been trying with pliers kinda gouge it a little
The vinson carbs may be different so i can’t guarantee it will come out. Joeh
Hey I have a 2001 king quad Lt300 but my carb doesnt look like that, can the Model X Carb swap for the Model K1, K2, and Y1?
Sorry i am not sure on all the different models. I am sure you could swap it if all sizes are right.
Thank you.
Could you elaborate on the hoses that come from the top of the carburetor, mine are all disconnected. Thanks
Hey Ron. Man i would have to look at the diagram. I don’t think there is a o ring in there. Josj
Great video brother, I have a kq also, thanks so much 4 the tips
Are you willing to come to Fredericton nb to work on a few king quads
That would be a hell of a service call. That could be fun though.
would it be possible for you to do a video on showing different ways on putting on the inlet tube and if there is a way to soften the inlet tube up to make it easier
If not it is a vent.
hey schneids, a rookie here..im wondering if a suzuki 500 quadmaster is a similar tear down of the carb as the one you did on the 300 quadrunner?..im gonna attempt it, my first one ever..its spittin & sputterin at when i rev it. if i use the choke it seems to run smoother..is it starving for gas?...any thoughts would really be great, ty.
thanks for the video,i have a 94 250 that need's the carb refreshed,,this should be a great help
awesome vid bud.
Great to hear! Glad i could help🤙🏻
Is the intake on when trying this? Have had issues with then running lean with intake off.
@Schneids15 yes it is
Hi, lovely video !! I have the same carb and having vaccum problem to the fuel pump. What do you think about it ?? thanks , Gus
Awesome Video Mate, I have just pulled the carb out of my Father in laws King Quad 300, and the diaphragm has a small tear in it. Any advise on where to find the part number and the parts for these in Canada? Cheers
Hey are the quad runner 250 and the king quad 300 rear interchangeable
Is it possible the timing is a little off?
what do you think would cause a rich condition that will slowly flood the engine out if it idles too long?
My guess would be a needle leaking. The fuel level will raise to high and eventually flood into the carb and cause this.
@@Schneids15 thanks, I took it apart and fond corosion on the seat oring it was leaking fuel around the seat by passing the needle.
I bought an aftermarket Chinese carburetor it does not work in your video you recommended another carburetor to replace the original one what would you recommend to replace the original carburetor what brand or would you go with or would you go with an OEM carburetor
What about a rebuilt kit? Im missing the spring on my 2000 kq
Hate to say it but yes a carb rebuild likely is not necessary but a clean will be.
@@Schneids15 so does that mean I need to take it apart and soak in solvent such as Berryman?
No don’t soak it. Open it up and remove the jets and make sure they are clean and you can see through them with no crud.
Spray the jets with “carb” cleaner or brake cleaner.
Any ideas
Yes needs a new needle and seat likely. Carb rebuild kit would best.
@@Schneids15 hey there I just watched your video on the carb cleaning and while spraying the ports out a very tiny rubber oring and a very tiny brass washer hit the ground and I'm not sure where they go back into the carb I tried to watch your video over but didn't see you mention them could you please help me out? thanks 😊
What would cause this quad to start and run good for the first few minutes then rev super high and die in neutral or once I put it in reverse?
Sound’s like the quad is running super lean and could be revving up because of that. When warming up is the choke on?
@@Schneids15 yes choke is on. Seems to die the moment I turn choke off. I spray starting fluid into the air filter and it drops RPMS to a normal idle and then after it burns off it shoots back up in RPMS again. I tried taking the air filter off with no difference and the intake boot and all other connections seems to look solid.
So this video is great, let me say that, you made it so easy, with the step by step instructions. So I did this and put everything back together and it will only start with the throttle wide open, and it will not idle, any help or tips you can give me?
It sounds like it is flooding out with only starting with the throttle wide open. It is hard to say what is wrong without seeing it. Sorry.
@@Schneids15 i went ahead and ordered a rebuild kit, so maybe that will help.
Thinking of it now i would make sure the float and needle are seating properly. It could be what is flooding it. Was fuel overflowing out of the carb at all or could you smell fuel a lot?
@@Schneids15 yes it was over flowing, and smelled a lot like gas.
Josh
What is the brass cylinder next to the pilot screw? It has a hole in it does that need to be cleaned? If so how?
But see remove the air needle on the outside of the bowl the little sticking up I have mine out. I don’t remember if there’s a spring or not hoping to see it in here.
Any recommended brands or links for rebuild kits?
Great video. I have a 1994 king quad 300 and one day I was riding around the yard and it stalled out on me. Immediately started right back up but would only idle. Would kill itself if you
Gave it any gas.
I’m almost to the point where I take half of the parts from the new carb and put them into the old one
do you have any videos cleaning a carburetor on a suzuki eiger quadrunner 400 4x4?
No Tom, sorry i do not. Josh
Excellent Presentation~~Thanks
@@Schneids15 I just wrote to you..Keep a eye out...Many Thanks...Steve Lovell
What do you do when you main jet screw will not budge and the whole tub turns ?
By whole tub what do you mean? The whole carburetor?
@@Schneids15 I meant whole tube .
Ahh thank u
Hey! I ordered from royal distributing. My blue atv has a 6sigma jet kit in it off ebay and it runs amazing
@@Schneids15 Thank you Josh, it's gonna be my first time trying, wish me luck, and thank you so much..
Thanks again for being there and caring about us Suzuki oldies but goodies,
Thanks man! Really appreciate it. Would you be able to get new screws for your carb? I have not found a mikuni that could not be rebuilt yet.
@@Schneids15 They are stripped in the carb. Wish you were close enough to meet (and I am probably one of 100's if not 1000,s).
This will cause issues. You could pull it all the way out to the off position and then install it in the carb and not touch it again.
Thanks!
Great vid!!! Very well done.
Do you know where to find or which jets to use if I want to install an aftermarket muffler on one of these quads?
I used a 140 main on my 97 with aftermarket exhaust. It is a little rich. I think a 135 would be perfect
Okay I hope its the same for a 01 , I found a "stage 1" jet kit from dynojet but it just says it is fully adjustable doesn't say any sizes
I would go with a 6sigma kit off ebay. I have one in my blue 95’ and it is the best running king quad i have ever done
Okay ill look them up, about the quad being a newer year you think it'll make a difference?
Not at all. There is different kits for different years. Explain the details to him when checking out as they specify. They are cheap too around 50$ i believe.
Thanks for the video. Big help!
