- Welcome to our BRAND NEW VANILLA series! As well as serving as an update to the year's template, this series will also serve as the ultimate guide to playing and building in my style as we hopefully head towards the end of the life cycle of Cities 1...This series will continue as episodes. Today we are introducing the Campus DLC into the game. This allows us to create much more interesting and expansive campus areas, one of my favs. We'll walk through how to get to 5* and what can cause you some issues.

Best advice to those who have never built a campus is that capus will take more space than you think because buildings are huge and you will need a lot of them.
Academic Statues are a good way to build up attractiveness. Statue 1 adds 75 attractiveness each and statue 2 adds 100 each. It's a good way to get to that 1800 for level 5 without taking up too much space.
"The giraffes, however, have burnt down."
1 hour to the mark, impressive!! 😂 What a lovely campus, love all the transport layers, great set up for the downtown too, can't wait!
The absolute torture you can hear in OE's voice when he puts down a blimp stop is tickling me so much. Great campus build! I love the elevation against the highway :D
This series is the best one I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Please keep it going!
Thank you so much! For sure, we'll fill all 9 tiles in vanilla. If there's demand, we may keep it going in streams with 81 tiles, we'll see :)
I swear I've already learned so much from this series. The public transport aspect alone has really taught me a ton since I never understood it very well. Like I got what it was used for but I never integrated it very well into my cities. Seeing it put into every part of the city has helped me grasp the concept. Seems like a no brainer now. Giving people as many options as possible would be great in an actual city too. I can see why you like watching the transport and people walking around. It really makes the city feel much more alive than it would with just cars everywhere. It's like everybody has a story with the places they're going in a city you built. That campus is gorgeous also. I'm really seeing how just decorating even a little bit can make various parts of the city look distinct from each other
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it :)
I'm not sure if you covered this, but in addition to having great transit connections to support getting lots of students to the main campus, you can also create satellite campuses in other areas of the map. You just paint the university district across the map to where you want the satellite campus to be and then you can delete the connecting district area (so that it doesn't look ridiculous), and both parts will still be for the same university district.
I like to create specialized areas, like a university hospital system closer to downtown. Some of the university buildings look great in a more dense neighborhood. Also, small generic satellite campuses can be placed at the edges of the city to improve the student count without having to work out the transportation stuff as much.
Great video! 😺
Great idea mate! Thank you!
i do the same with industries. i put the nastier processing buildings on top of my old generic industrial areas. it does mess up the traffic but i like the way it looks.
This may be a stupid question but what is a satellite campus? I downloaded cities skylines a week ago and i want to learn from the best city builders :D
@@blackberrykka A satellite campus (or branch campus) just means a separate campus area on the map, usually distant from the main campus area. In real life, many universities in the US have a large main campus and several smaller separate campuses in other cities. The satellite campuses are typically much smaller, they often do not offer nearly as many subjects to study, and a student might start out at a satellite campus but need to transfer to the main campus for certain classes (of course, Cities Skylines will not simulate this aspect, which is fine). You can also have a satellite campus that focuses on one subject in more depth.
As an example, one that I am familiar with is Ohio State University (OSU); it has a main campus in Columbus, Ohio - it is a sprawling campus that supports more than 200 different types of degrees, includes all major sports venues, a large medical complex, dormitories for thousands of students, administrative buildings, and buildings that support student health and fitness. OSU also has several much smaller satellite campuses throughout the state of Ohio in the cities of Lima, Newark, Mansfield, and Marion. They also have campuses focused agriculture - the OSU Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster, Ohio, and many other locations across the state that focus on agricultural research and development.
I really like this Idea Joe and will have to incorporate this into my next build. I especially appreciate the reference being a Buckeye. I was born in Columbus, Ohio. Thanks for sharing the idea
Worth mentioning that the 3 campuses do have different benefits. Each of the Faculties (Unique Buildings) do have a city-wide benefit that differs between the campus types. I don't recall that being mentioned. Otherwise, all the other building types do function identically to their counterparts in other campus types. Great video :)
It keeps getting better buddy. Love that it’s vanilla and introducing DLC piece by piece and the builds are fantastic - excited for the next instalment already!
This series has VERY positively influenced my cities, so thanks Egg!
Glad to hear :)
I started playing Cities Skylines in November last year and purchased just Green Cites for the nice buildings, Snowfall for the tram and After Dark for biking so far. But I think I need more DLCs like Parklife and Campus. Your tutorials are such a strong motivation to go on with the game. Really appreciate what your are doing.
Ah yes, highways, the most natural of natural borders
Highway in it's natural habitat!
I was well over the mark for number of students so thought I had level 5 in the bag, but it's the academic works that are killing me. Even though I've been granting them at every opportunity, I'm still 8 short to hit level 5. Even boosting the budget, this could still take four more academic years (which on three speed still takes forever!) Otherwise, the city is coming along great. It's getting so big. Great vid and campus design. Can't wait to see the above ground metro in action. It already looks so good being elevated along the highway. And as always, your sense of humor is very much appreciated. About time someone put topography in its place. :)
Mortar boards are the hats you were thinking of 🙂 Absolutely love these noob videos, so useful for me as someone who’s finally seriously getting into Cities Skylines at my third attempt. My city still looks like butt compared to yours and others I’ve seen but the tutorials are so helpful. Thank you!
Great build by the #1 CS creator.
You can build all 3, as long as you're okay with a level 5 tear down and compact rebuild. This is how to get the build 3 campuses achievement, as well as saturating the city with elementary and secondary education.
To do the achievement, when you get to level 5, rebuild the campus in as tight a footprint as your aesthetic will allow with only 1 of each building, as Nd then the buildings that offer the greatest attraction for their volume to get you back to level 5 after that
I kept thinking through this, especially at the end with the lush tropical flora, ‘this feels like practice for Egg’s Aussie Gold Coast city!’
Modern, chill vibes… I love it
Campus is such an amazing DLC. Dedicated campuses are great, but I LOVE integrating them through tout a region in my city. Trade school + HD Green cities Residential is superb.
“Today we’re going to disrespect the topography by attacking it’s beliefs and values.” 😂
Just found you - and I love your style, subscribed and will be watching more!
Enjoy! There's a ton of this stuff on the channel 😌
Giraffes must have had a crazy party in the giraffe house
Hope you are feeling better today, Egg. Saw in Few Candys stream you had a grim weekend.
i comment each vid to increase the range of the video. Great vid
Legend bro ❤️
Love it!!
Love this intro music
Blimps! 😀
Sorry, had to be. 😃
Great university build! Would love this as a student. Everything available on campus, nice, green spaces, wonderful. Maybe a leisure part for parties needs adding. 🤣
I always have to think back to the Police Academy movies when that particular building is used. 😀
man you should add the other two, because if the first one looks this good, oh man!
I feel more educated. Great build mate. :)
I can’t wait to go home and play! I want to copy exactly what you did!
Haha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
The metro here would be called the Noob tube 😄
10/10 not bad!!!
Having built all three campus, I like the look of the trade school best.
I like it... - I like it a lot. :)
Just what I need. I've been struggling to level up my campus 😭
An incredible channel !🙂
Thank you!
Police Academy is a nice looking building.
Here goes my "I'll go to sleep early tonight"... thanks :P
My city on Xbox had EVERYTHING from the dlcs but I couldn't do 9 tiles anymore so went and got a pc.
In this case, making the topography respect you as CPP has said lol
❤❤❤❤
Cities Planner Plays would like a word with you. lol
Isn't it waterpipes underground where they belong?
“The giraffes have burnt down”
I think the "Noobs guide city" needs a shorter name at this point :D Also whenever you place a unique campus building away from the actual campus area it always makes me think of my universities which all have multiple campus areas. It makes me wonder if the city planners of those cities decided that the school of whatever would look better out at the coast while the rest of the uni sits at the center of the city. xD
I have a question when I zoom out just a little bit some of the commercial buildings are shining with Jagged edges just wondering how do I fix this?
Why don't you bind road/zone tools to for ex. like me to 1,2,3,4 keys and the other road tools such guide lines to for example F1 F2 F3 F4 or by using more shortcuts mod Shift + 1,2,3,4. I can't imagine playing so much and must clicking there everytime. Cheers!
Couldn't you show how to do vanilla car parking with the asset editor?
Can you merge the undeground metro track and the elevated one ?
I'm not an expert, but my advice would be not to use this DLC for trying to boost education in your city. The vanilla universities actually work a lot faster if you're trying to solve any education gaps. I noticed that you had 20k population and 5 million in funds. That's probably a good point to start this, and maybe even over 40k population would be better because it's so hard to get the student enrollment to increase.
This should be Nooberia
mine reached the next level icon but is still the same level
Graduation "Cap" as in Cap and Gown.
More specifically, the (typical) cap is a "Mortar board".

I've had to pause half way through. "so I'm gonna place in a blimp depot here...." I'm shook and considering unsubscribing... YOU ARE ON THIN ICE YOUNG MAN! You have half an hour left to redeem yourself.
Okay, you have redeemed yourself. Yet again you've built a wonderful campus. This is definitely an area which demonstrates your brilliant skills. .... but please kill the blimps asap, they're sucking the life force from your soul with every pass, and I can't bear to watch it. ;)
Can you merge the undeground metro track and the elevated one ?
