Noob York will be a great name.
Ok I actually love this
My current favourite!
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Noob Jersey
If you're interested in why London high rises are a. Not super high and b. Weird shapes it's because there are planning regulations that state there must be clear sight lines from places like Akexandra Palace to St Paul's Cathedral etc.
So if you're using the Notre Dame Cathedral in your city it's worth considering leaving open sight lines from other old looking uniques
For realism, large airports need easy access to aviation fuel, so they should be near a harbor or have cargo train access to fill the fuel storage. Trucks just aren't efficient getting avgas from refinery to airport.
Beach is sounding promising!
You forgot about pipelines :/ (edit: underground ones but overground ones would work)
No way you build airport near beach. Shoreline has usually the biggest land value and giant airports would just take extremely valuable land which is too expensive
The new Sydney airport is going to have trucks take the aviation fuel in as there is an offsite fuel storage and they didn’t want to pipe the petrol in because it would run under runway meaning they’d have to dig it up if pipe needs replacment
I always enjoy watching Egg's process in building skylines. The crawl in height with this downtown makes it really dynamic. I love it!
At 20:15, I'd say having the airport so close to so much development wouldn't be the best idea, especially because that headland would have awesome views for upscale commercial or residential. Airports should be away from all the activity
Depends on how the city is built. Some airports are very close to their downtown areas like in Boston. And depends how the airport is being used.
I tend to keep mine close to my tourist and commercial districts when I build, just to motivate the use of them, it also makes hooking it up to infrastructure. Much easier IMO cause you don't have o reach as far with roads, rail etc...also I noticed that the closer to the city the airport is the more use and numbers i see 👀
@@jsalas5400 That is an interesting point. I know IRL airports are usually far away because of sound and such, but I've seen many towns that have ended up growing around them, so that today the airport is practically in the city center). Still, I would think that the vertical space would make for amazing vistas that an airport wouldn't help
@@jsalas5400 Good point. Two more that immediately come to mind are San Diego and of course Chicago Midway, absolutely bonkers.
@@jrbboppmsp is built very close to development and is a pretty good sized airport. Same with Vegas, la guardia
@@jedipotater1388 Not sure about MSP, but I do know Vegas airport was in the middle of nowhere when it was built, but the city's grown so much it started surrounding it
Nooberia xD rolls off the tongue, easy to remember and we won't mistake it for any other city you're working on.
23:21 "master crawling height" and a very happy Egg. xD
Or Newberia👀
@@KuroiYuki88 oooh, I like that!
'Suck up the Brown' for the downtown area that I suggested last week
Amazing what can be achieved in the vanilla game with a lot of care and attention! This downtown is stunning, nice job Egg!
Too kind! Thank you FewC ❤️
"I'm going to come to your house and delete your save games..." That was you?! Noooo! :@
It was :)
Very much enjoyed this episode. Watching the intro, I was like "yes! my city is going to look like that!" Now I need to get busy working on it.
“Noob Yolk” kinda like New York
LOl nice
I want to be good at this game so badly but I always get to a certain point and hate how my city looks and quit. This is the most helpful series I've ever found on city skylines, and I feel like my next build is going to be so much better! Thank you so much for creating this series!!!
I thought its just me
Love the "don't use these ... buildings..... or I will come to your house at night and delete your save games".... too funny.....
Welcome to the city of Noob Beach..
*I had to say it like that because it’s kinda weird saying Noob Beach by itself..
I like Noob Beach because you have a beachfront..
I’m currently playing on Diamond Coast as well and the cool thing is.. I have my downtown where the empty land is behind your fishing harbor and where your downtown is I have a beachfront road with a leisure-specific district.. behind it I’m still working on..
Patiently waiting for the Ilos downtown after being reminded of your vanilla abilities. And thank you for picking up my metro suggestion 😊
Watching the Noobs Guides series actually helped me on building my own City, TYSM!
Glad to hear! :)
You're like an artist. I love watching you paint a city, especially a downtown!
Thank you so much 😀
I cant get enough of this series, its the first one of Eggs I've watched tbh but its so captivating, especially interaction with the community he's built around the series, 10/10
Thanks bro! 😌
Great video, Noob Spice City comes to mind for me. 👍
Absolutely love this series, great video! :)
Thank you
It's tough sometimes. Some of the plopable skyscrapers are giant! And you really gotta pick and choose what elevation works where. I just wish more of those buildings get functional use, like instead of all being tourist attractions then have some commercial use, maybe multiple uses.....skylines 2 maybe
One of the RICO mods can be used to change their use. When used alongside realistic population these buildings hold hundreds of people
I had never seen your videos before and the first one I saw was the YT recommendation of your down town network frame last night! I subbed too as your builds are incredible.
Thank you so much mate! Appreciate that :)
This video was super helpful for a noob like me. Thanks for posting.
Another masterpiece. Great build buddy. :)
Great vid as always. Keep up the work. greetiings from germany
Very informational video and my first time really seeing you build a downtown! Almost there in Palaven, and I've seen bits of Noveria, so this was really cool seeing how you choose where to put assets and how to make the skyline unique. At 52:30 I almost choked on my cookie, gonna check my cities now for those offending assets lmao! Great work as always, so much detailing went into this episode, and I might be ready for Ilos. 😍🥰
Beautifully crafted skyline! You make me proud. ;)
Thanks mate ❤️ that's all I'm really here to do 😌
Nice video bro, thx for the tips! U say 'okay' a lot haha
Wonderful downtown in the Noob City!
I love how you kept the already in place "ruin" on the map and integrated it.
But I am now afraid you will delete all my save files in the night...
🤪
I like how you always find ways to use fencing in your builds.
My goodness that final shot towards the end of the video with the downtown area at night is just gorgeous. If I didn't know it was a game I'd swear that looks real. I'm really getting into the detailing aspect of the game. Just imagining the way an area would look in real life and just making a city look good is so much fun. Now I see why the detailing time-lapses are necessary. Cause I just spent an hour detailing a good chunk of mine and it honestly looks like a completely different build. Also I've began to realize the necessity of making buildings historical. Some of the higher level buildings are just horrid looking. Ain't no way a real city should even think for a fracture of a second to use some of them
this is such a good video!
Looks awesome
Beautiful city, I love its cities, especially Noveria !!
I've always resisted trams for various reasons, but the tram on the beach is brilliant. I'll be using this in my next beach build for sure.
Be better when we get the park flowing around the beach too 😌 join the tram gang Jeff!
Nice video! City Name? Nooborough comes to mind. (Could be spelled Newborough)
Noob Eggland!
I still watch this even though I’m on console I just like the ideas I can gain from this
"more holes than a hedgehogs lilo"😂
This city center is perhaps more refined and elegantly designed than Palaven’s “Downtown Complex”😎. Maybe the bright/beautiful nearby beach gives this one more class. Noveria’s DT was more intricately laid out with all the little sub-neighborhoods by the canal, IMHO. You’re obviously improving with each immaculate iteration.🧐
Cidade linda e sem mods! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Ah dude! Thank you so much for the superthanks bro! very generous, glad you enjoyed it
City names:
Noob Beach
Crawling Heights
Or my city's name - Palm Springs. Not very original, but hey, lots of Palms and Water so.....
This is a very beautiful layout and build for a downtown. This is a work of art no doubt. Question!? All of these buildings you have used are available without mods and on console as well through dlc content, correct? If so there might be some things I didn't know I had in the zoning option that I will now have to check out. Anyway this is awesome and thank you for your time to do these videos. This was definitely an inspiration to my next build
ey you took my suggestion :D
I’m quite curious how you’d go about like a Las Vegas style skyline, with big just wildly eccentric buildings causing masses of traffic… I’m trying to make one beachfront in one of my cities but can’t get it to look right 😅 love the videos! They’ve made my cities massively better!
We actually tested a Las Vegas style strip during a Modudlar Builds stream a few years ago...nearly impossible in vanilla! Due to how the assets sit, the way it looks, you've got to use mods and assets to come anywhere close to it I think. I've never seen a decent recreation of a vanilla Vegas :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG nuts, I’ll keep trying at it! I’m on console as well so even if I get mods, the ones available aren’t that amazing. But thanks for the input! If I ever succeed I will be sure to share it!
airport would look nice close to the beach.
Ohh yeah! Runways heading off over the water!
Appropriate name for the city is Noobai :)
*Noob York*. That’s my suggestion. It’s simple, I hope it’s effective, @Overcharged Egg.
The unique buildings are so cool but damn if they fit anywhere! Lol
lol I've been using those 'hideous assists' at 52.25 I thought they looked funky almost brutalist.
Definitely call the city Noobveria. :D
City name ideas:
Nooboon City
Newbiester
Noobshire
Nooberg
I really love all the citites you make! Do you mind making a download link for this city or Palaven on steam workshop? Id really like to look around the cities for inspiration
New player - amazed by how simple you make it look. Seem to play for hours and just do a 4 road lane network, following your steps... crazy!!! Playing on console... do you have discounts on the console DLCs as well????
Thanks mate! Yeah this game will eat your life 😂
Instant gaming does have codes for consoles yes, just gotta select your platform on the product page 😌
Sad that your videos get low views you are creative when I started the game I was so confused thank you!
Your comments and likes help them get more views so thank you :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG welcome man. I really wanted to install mods but I use Ps4 idk how to install it lol. If you know can u inform me?
@@zysyhhshss1602 Consoles don't get mods my friend! If you want to play modded, you gotta be on the Steam version of the game. Macs and Linux can also get mods but its a bit more difficult :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG oh..... Didn't know that thank you. I was thinking of spending more time on city skylines because I'm fasting Ramadan so I'm bored :)
I'm a fan of your build, what tool do you use to line the bush, trees?
I have clocked up quite a few hours on the game, loving this series. How do you stop european buildings appearing in a non-european cities build?
Is there any chance of you uploading the save game to Steam when the Noobs Guide series is done. I think I could spend hours just poking around and seeing what you've put where.
Noobpur , based of my city's name : Nagpur
I mean this as a compliment, I promise, but watching your city makes me want to go rip out half the things I've done in my current city because I realise I've over-complicated stuff or lost sight of how things were supposed to look in places 😂
Do you have any tips for people who want to separate out tourism from offices and high density a little? Like having a beachfront tourist district or one near the airport while your actual downtown is in a different area with perhaps offices and high density commercial and transport. I think I feel like I've missed the opportunity to give my business district a distinctive skyline and feel because I've been saving some buildings for the tourism area that will form across the river from the central living/working area (apparently I like traffic challenges). In searching for inspiration, have you ever seen cities with split skylines?
Haha thank you! Sometimes simple is best :)
Try playing with the micro-districts idea, setting up smaller areas and seeing which assets you like, some will be taller than others and you can play with whichever you like the look of.
In terms of Split Skylines, the most obvious would be NYC, lower manhatten and uptown are split by midtown where central park is, it'd be hard to take inspo from NYC itself but you certainly could from the way its skyline rises and falls from one end of the island to the other :)
When is the next video in thus series please. City is looking amazing.
*Me after hundreds of hours:
Sure why not
Name Suggestion - Nusguard (noobs guide) aka - The City Of Small Organic Spice
also Comment Streak 7 :D but gotta go harass Palaven as well for it to count
Noochanka = Noob + Tuchanka (because of the LUT)
I was save this episode before my military service...
And I back to continue from same episode.
Man... how strange would it be to come back to this one with the Skyscraper pack??
The back-side should be considered in all scenarios
I feel like the name of the city should riff on "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" Since our guidemaker is the egg, the city design is the chicken. Or maybe just a chick.
How about Chickagrow? (pronounced like Chicago, obv)
20:07 who are you and what have you done to the real OE? :O
Surely with an Underground and Overground the area should be called Wimbledon? 😂
Do you just paint your entire downtown (or city really...) with the park painting tool so that you can place the park items?
I do not, park assets can be placed on roads outside of park areas :)
If you did not name this city Noobist Beach you missed a great opportunity 😅😂
Call the city Noobia.
What mod uses for switching day and night?
How do you handle the traffic for high density areas and tourist building areas
This guide essentially shows you, lots of access and public transport, might help you to follow from the start of this playlist :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG I’ve been watching a lot of orchid bay recently will definitely start the build guild!
How about Finagleton for a city name
Alternatively, I know I'm basing it on a river, but how about Blue Danoob? (Maybe spelled Danoobe or Danoub or some other variant so it doesn't look like "da noob".)
If I download a DLC on Instant Games, how does that work with my Cities Skylines game (since I bought it from Steam)? Do I need to do anything to add the DLC into my Steam library or will it recognize I have DLC when it launched the CS game?
You buy the code from InstantGaming and then redeem it in your Steam Library as you would any other online code.
In the bottom left of steam there is an option for "Add a game", you redeem your code from InstantGaming there. Just be sure you're buying the Steam code, not the PS4 or Xbox :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Excellent! Thank you and I want to make sure I use your link when I do it!
@@BoomerKeith1 Appreciate that mate thank you!
Feel like the city should be called Nooberia 😂
Hi Egg, I have to say I love your cities and always follow your videos as they are so easy to follow and copy but i am having an issue with your noobs guide map. I subscribed to it off the steam workshop ready to build my downtown, I load it up fine but when I try to run it the save game freezes and I cant do anything to it. I have run other save games and they run ok i've even uninstalled and re-installed but it's still the same. Any ideas, Thanks
Thank you Claire! Hmmm, that sounds weird. No one else has had an issue loading the files, so it must be something on your end. Are you loading in with any mods or assets? Try loading in with a totally clean vanilla set up!
Hi Egg, I found the problem it was the 81 tile mod so i have turned it off and the game runs fine now and i have managed to build the downtown that runs and grows.
Thanks Egg for the great videos and brilliant cities
Newb York, Newb York
More holes than a hedgehog's lilo lol
im sure im way too late but could have called it Feros
Hey man! ive been building along with this series, and im around episode 4. I seem to be having a problem in my industrial area with the traffic. the roundabout is always busy and the connector that leads from the other side of the train tracks to the connector is backing up hard. Also, the road that cuts between the city and the leisure district is getting backed up. should I try to re route my bus networks?
use one way industrial streets only
@@rtslonnie I did , I have it identical to his
The demand of the city will ebb and flow as will the traffic so it can lead to spikes. It could be a case of you just have zoned too much! Try unzoning a bit of it, keep the exit roads of the artierials free so people have room to "breath". Mine had traffic too at times, its natural for industrial areas. As long as you're not gridlocked, you'll be ok :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG thanks man! The true Bob Ross of Cities Skylines!
Hey Jason. I had a very similar situation in that exact area and have gone through multiple changes to deal with it. One-ways worked for a while, then the problem was back. I added extra slip roads from the industrial area to the highway. I reworked the interchange. I added roundabouts. All these different things worked for a while, then the traffic would build back up. Like Egg suggested, I think the best solution is to de-zone some of the area. What finally worked for me was once the Forestry Industrial area was in, I started heavily scaling back that generic industrial area. I'd say about 80% of it is now zoned office (with the addition of quite a few plazas and such to keep the actual zoned tiles down a bit). Traffic is busy through the area, but not backing up. Good luck! This game always provides challenges.

Watching those so called Noob guides, means that Cities Skylines must be played a certain way like a youtuber says it should be, I mean I must be correct right, right!
Not at all, this game can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Some love detailing, some love the data, some love min/maxing traffic. There is no "correct way" to play. This series just showcases my way of playing.
fantastic, but give those poor inner city folk a school!
