I'm absolutely loving this series! I've started a new city and it is looking better and better thanks to you. I've been waiting for a video on high density cuz I'm not very good at making high density look good. Thanks for the tips!
Tip: I usually try to keep some roads with parking on them instead of converting all into roads with trees on them so that cims who still have somewhere to park their cars. If you are going to walk, you cant just walk 25 kilometres. You need to have somewhere to park.
A tip Captain Ahvious uses. An absolute ton of assets that seem to need to be next to the road actually don't. Place a temporary road a square or two forward from their final position. Place the asset. Delete and redraw the road in its final position. This allows you to add detail to the front of an asset, like fencing in school builds, or fleshing out a plaza symmetrically. Use the sugar maple tree in the space between your "grim" 2x4 residential and the road. It's pollution tolerant.
I learned that one from Imperatur and it's been game changing for making cities so much prettier. Now I can do simple things that I wanted like having a park surrounded by housing with just a walking path to the road.
Absolutely agree. Especially when it comes to vanilla ways to solve things. I like the quality of life many mods give but unfortunately they keep breaking my saves so I stopped using them. Hence I really appreciate well made vanilla gameplays like this and cpp
Favorite Part: "Kind of a more dire... you know... frontage residential here now, right? It's a little bit more grim-looking I think, isn't it? ..... Wonderful!"

Noob is such a strong word, this is obviously aimed towards new players. There isn't a right way or a wrong way on how to build a city, it's down to your own imagination.
Egg not terraforming is so weird. xD This was pure Egg goodness in Cities, with layers of height, ped paths and cycle highway with trams, beautiful episode. That bus stop by the metro and tram stop looks like it needs some kind of support though. Love the music also!
I think some of us (myself included) become so accustomed to terraforming that we instinctively create perfectly flat terraformed areas, and then create manicured cliffs or retaining walls to compensate. What this video reminds me is that some slopage, a little terrestrial unevenness, adds so much to the realism. The vanilla assets don't look too bad at all with a little slope. Beautiful vanilla city, Egg!
The only thing more relaxing than playing the game is following a let's build, it's only been a few nights now and it's come together so well. I really enjoy just exploring the build and back tracking to see what choices were made and to better understand why. It's been fun adding personal touches too and incorporating my own aesthetic and style. I'm really looking forward to the interchange video, the default one is so awful looking.
You should leave at least one of the so called ugly high density buildings in the build. That way us noobs could at least judge for ourselves. Once it hits level 5 then you can show us and tell us why you don't like it then tear it down and replace it.
Wow what an episode! It looks so much better the way you approach the high density!!! (Compared to my habit of mass zoning). Do you ever use the ban high rise policy in a district to manage the levelling up of high density?
What I like to do when zoning 4x4 back to back is having 3 wide assets from time to time to offset the houses a bit. Btw I really enjoyed your take and did not know about the tree upgrade.
Been playing along with you! Some of my measurements are off, but the city is looking beautiful. Having a bit of an issue with traffic on the industrial roundabout; hope that sorts out soon. Thanks for the amazing content!
Your Industries will eb & flow as the demands of the city do, leading to spikes and low points in traffic. Reducing your industry in that area can help, also further highway exits too. Glad you're enjoying it :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Good to know! Mostly I was confused at the difference, but thinking back I put less coal plants and a million recycle centres in there. That might be it. 😅. Honestly though this is great. Hope this series takes off for you. 🙂
Almost at 16 thousand and its starting to get busy! I messed up with the high-density, it does look a bit ugly. The traffic is using mainly the industrial entrance now and it's getting a bit busy. I'll watch a few more before going back to the game, I think, just so I learn more about placement. You are very good at this. I couldn't afford an additional DLC so no trams for me :(. Thanks so much for doing this series.
I started a new city the other day and didn’t feel like the hassle to put the pipes along the roads so I just placed them for coverage. Took about 2 hours for me to rip ALL of them out and put them under the roads 🙈😂😂 I just couldn’t handle it
A thing for me, which probably doesn’t mesh styles wise, is that if you don’t want to do the historical things but keep, idk, the buildings height cohesive is you can use the European style as a sort of buffer between the suburban buildings and then to the skyscraper buildings. It’s not perfect but its a good compromise between marking historical for hours and having a totally awful looking city imo
The vanilla tram depot creates its own traffic jams when all the trams come out. Why have two tram houses and then dump them onto a single track? I scanned the workshop for some better options and found a modular depot. Will try that today as I'm interested in trying a new layout for my tram network.
Great timing your video came out just before i start building my high density zone. Is there a limit to how many historic buildings the vanilla support?
One thing I hate that is a myth that cars use arterial roads. This is not true. They use only the short path. Only and just only. I will try some IA changes on TMPE, but they all ends with vehicle and people moving slow, make it looks like even my 12400F is not enough to deal with it.
I'm not sure if this is the right place and the right way to make requests/suggestions, but let me have a go. I am hoping you might consider two ideas. First, the city of Corvallis in Oregon has an interesting skate park built right underneath a highway interchange. It's called Eric Scott McKinley Skate Park. I hope you (or Few Candy or both!) would have a go at something of that spirit! Second, when it comes time to use the Central Park asset, I'd love to see a build that takes advantage of the fact that its pathways are of the type that let you hook pedestrians paths onto them. I think I would find it interesting to see a build that combines the Central Park asset with some of the other vanilla parks that allow the same, to end up with a truly grand central park design. [Edit: I initially made the skate park suggestion to Few Candy, but I was a bit too late; she had already incorporated the skate park asset very nicely into Prepare to Market.]
@6:52 what is the purpose of putting in a path alongside the road which has paths alongside it anyway? Do pedestrians not use the paths on the side of the roads? Thank you!

Loved these videos! ...... my gf heard the vids and mentioned that you say "okay" allot and its very annoying .. now I cant unhear it and hate to say I agree with her hahaha.... Why woman why?!?!
Hey, so making a building historical keeps the building looking the same but allows it to still level up, right? Just want to make sure I'm still maximizing population because the highrise ban actually prevents a building from reaching its top level.
I have graveyards and crematoriums and the dead still don't get picked up. I get annoyed with it and kill the building because I'll have a cooker down the road like one block away and they still don't get picked up. Is there a facility in the game to mark a place for urgent? The same with rubbish with the worst offenders being the industries main buildings. I'll put a dump and incinerator next to the things and nothing happens. Granted they eventually pick up the rubbish but the dead not so much.
so an area is too noisy to place houses because people would get sick and upset... so you put.. a cemetery there instead. a place of quiet reflection where people can mourn their lost loved ones...
Not as bad as placing a children's health care center directly across the street of said graveyard. I would have switched it and the seniors care building. But the videos are great!
