Haley Wilson me too cause it shows you how far they've come. There's probably not even a hundred people in their and now they sell out 20,000+ stadiums.
My uncle went to one of his concerts several years ago and he claimed Maynard sat indian style with his back to the audience rocking back and forth...sang the whole concert while playing (and beating) Mario brothers on the projector. Kind of random and strange. But that’s Maynard!! He is a genius in my book!
Dobbs was a bar 21+ so you wouldn't have gotten in...I was 23 & missed it as well...but Tool was fairly unknown at the time as were most nationals that played Dobbs and you can tell by the poor attendance....Pearl jam's first ever Philly show was there as well before they hit...
You would have had to have "Fake ID" cause JC Dobbs carded heavily at the door then. I was there, and it was mind blowing, and I wasn't even a big fan of them then? Incredible Live, so glad I got to be here on sheer luck!
1991/92 may have been the greatest years in JC history. In those 2 years I saw PJ, Tool, Primus, Nirvana and a ton of other great bands...often for No Cover thanks to a friend.
I can attest to this as I was probably right alongside you. The third floor was epic. Remember sitting with Pearl Jam and my friend telling Eddie Vetter that they were good but not that tight yet. Shortly after they played NYC and were all over MTV. I never let him live that down. Along with the Kyber it was an amazing place to see bands.
channeling a lot of energy. that intense expression of emotion comes from somewhere deep down and just wants to burst out and cuts deep down into the listener. music can be so powerful.
Music just doesn’t feel the same anymore! This is the stuff I love!! Amps turned up too loud back feed from the guitars screaming! This is rock in its perfect form!!! 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Very hard to believe this vid has not yet gotten millions of views. These guys sund as good or better than in the studio, excellent performers. We are lucky to have them and I hope they keep performing and recording. I'd love to see them again sober since I've been totally fucked up the 2 times I've caught their show and missed a lot......
I'm not sure I can agree that "most every band during this time sounded just like this" TOOL always had a very unique sound. They weren't grunge-like in their sound at all. I don't know of another band that lead with the bass the way TOOL does/did.
i don't think there is another band that will ever exist that can deliver the chills to people quite like tool does. old maynard just stares through your soul. what an incredible band.
Wow! I used to practically live at j.c Dobbs when I lived on south street in Philly. Tuesday nights they had jam night.saw George thorougood&the Delaware destroyers there, pearl jam, pretty poison, Motorhead, biohazard and my favorite Necros which was a kick ass show.
if the crowd only realized what they were witnessing... now he hides in the background-- i absolutely LOVE Maynard!!! and would have killed to see him this damn close!
I bet if you were in front of him, you wouldn't be laughing as he's staring right through your soul to the back of your head at 4:51. And if you tried, I bet you'd be put into a chokehold so quick you wouldn't remember your own name.
holy fucking shit I can't imagine what it would've been like to be at this show and then see how far they've come now even the greatest bands gotta start somewhere :)
Thats fuckin awesome!! Classic early footage, a song and performance of such magnitude and only about 5 people clap at the end!! Still, imagine being one of those 5 people!!
Thanks for posting. Wow I was still in the service when this show was on. Lived in Philly recently and got to see a few shows there at Dobbs although I would drink at Mako's across the street then to Lorenzo's for a slice.
if only i was older..i was only 10 when they recorded this, only about 2 years before i heard tool for the first time and never looked back. they sound amazing and for it being such a small club i don't think any band can top this.
Got a feeling about 10 dudes in 92 have no idea what they just witnessed!
I love how they're playing this tiny club but the sound is still huge and is very close to the album version
Better than the album version lol
This place is super super small I’ve been there
I'm so glad someone documented this.
Me too...
+Arachnoscribe also me..
Me too. So raw, it's like seeing tool if they were your buddy's band
Haley Wilson me too cause it shows you how far they've come. There's probably not even a hundred people in their and now they sell out 20,000+ stadiums.
They knew they were witnessing history
I have a feeling that whatever he is staring at isn't actually there
It really is there, but only Maynard can see it
Some poor random at the bar
Wrong Thomas, it's there and it's the scariest shit you could ever imagine.
Nah man he's staring right through the audience rly makes them feel his story
@@thunnusobesus9270 Lucky*
I can’t imagine witnessing this live in a dive. Magic. Shout out to the camera guy. VHS? Excellent work. On point...
THSI is how this song is meant to be played. Pure and raw.
i dont think he even blinked

Maynard did get hip replacement surgery in 2015 so maybe it was then and he had to stay off his feet for awhile.
Seriously The best live performance EVER, out of this world. That voice, the intensity.. even his pronunciation of words gets me.
I was 17 and missed this?? I live 30 mins away at that time. Wth was wrong with me??
Kristin Tay fucking idiot I'd never pass up an opportunity like that
A Muncle for your uncle bruh lmao

@@jamesmichael9346 Me too! I was going to Temple U. On South Street everynight in the early 90s.
Dude, Maynard looks like he's staring into the souls of the audience, amazing...lol
this footage is a national treasure. well done.
This is is so fucking amazing
this should be the official music video
I amnot even a tool fan but I watch this often
Just an amazing performance

Underground rock/metal in it's truest form... Sweat, tunnel vision, intensity like nothing you'll see nowadays. Who's still here in 2019?!?!..
Seth Nickel no doubt. 2020 watching
channeling a lot of energy. that intense expression of emotion comes from somewhere deep down and just wants to burst out and cuts deep down into the listener. music can be so powerful.
Don't get me wrong, I love Maynard's voice as it is now, but back in '92 it was on a whole new level. Better pitch, better tone, better delivery.
Um yeah, he was younger...
Drugs
I agree
Age…
Music just doesn’t feel the same anymore! This is the stuff I love!! Amps turned up too loud back feed from the guitars screaming! This is rock in its perfect form!!! 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
This crowd had no idea that they were blessed to be witnessing a giant forming before their very eyes.
The way Maynard just feels the music and gives his all in his performances is amazing !

What an amazing video. This is at the beginning.
Maynard is the ONLY person the can pull off the mullethawk
The zoom in was the best
TOOL rocks
I'm so happy someone recorded this

@@preston1111 Sick math skills, bro.
Maynard has to have one of the best voices in all of music!
This is absolutely phenomenal.. never seen focusing like that
The entire concert is on UA-cam remastered (better video & sound) which improves it a lot. Check that one out!
@@BritIronRebel def gonna check that out! Thanks!!
towards the end when the camera is zoomed in on maynard and following back and forth while he's swaying and moving was pretty neat.. very tool-esque
Best voice award goes too
5 years later I would become a Toolhead..
2 years left
god damn danny and maynards timing is ridiculous
Rex Ross can’t forget Adam bro

Best live version out there.
if the crowd only realized what they were witnessing... now he hides in the background-- i absolutely LOVE Maynard!!! and would have killed to see him this damn close!
2023. ffs could you imagine, knowing, and then .. or being there.
You can tell how into the music he is. the focus in his eyes is something to be seen
It's a shame I was 11 at the time and missed this show!
I can't believe how awesome the quality of the band is on this vid.. esp. for back in '92
Was tgere that night instantly fell in love with tool new then tgey were destined for greatness
I am afraid to ask what he is sees , what a performance !!
Wow, that was a great show...I wonder if those guys ever did anything with their talent???
I love Maynard, but i can't help but lmao at 4:51
The girl that woo's right after like a terrified witness
Randy Strobel he always does that at tbat part of the song when the do it live for some reason
