you guys with the applause and dead crowd comments. why can't you understand that you have to be there to hear the details and you get 10-20% of the experience through a video. The microphone of the camera has to be set at a low sensitivity so it doesn't clip from the incredible 100 decibels it receives so it is set so low that when they stop playing you won't hear the much quieter though crazy crowd reaction on video. got it? everyone who went to a tool concert knows that the crowd is always going nuts with people passing out.
lol I got messed up 1 day and decided to try and make a Tool Cover song.. and I tried to sing Swamp Song... lmao.. not even close. Maynard is/was an amazing vocalist.
Les Pauls I'm pretty sure we're cheaper back then but by the time guns n roses hit they shot up in price because of slash but before that they weren't very cool
My band, Spiral Out (a tribute to Tool) just played this song at the very same venue last night... it was fucking magical to stand in the same spot and sing the same song as Maynard himself...
Gawd. >< I just cannot stress it enough. This is the best song of all time. And its just as freaking good here, in 92 recorded live, as it is studio on the cd. They nail it everytime. This happens to be my favorite! Gawd!! So freaking bad ass!
I'm not a big metal fan. But when I watch this, all that pent up rage and frustration just call out and it makes me feel so much better knowing that there is a medium that perfectly expresses that for me. Thank you Tool. For being the bridge that gapped me to my sanity again.
god.. look how intense he looks at the beginning.. you can tell that in his head hes not even in that room.. .hes in what ever memory made him write this song
I've jumped out of airplanes and had six guns pointed at me at one time, but I've never been scared more than I was listening to Tool in the dark on acid. I'll take Tool over the guns any day!
This album holds a special place in my heart, after discovering undertow was released the literal week I was born in april 93. I have loved this whole album for many years before I knew that cool ass fact.. It is up there in some of the best Hard rock albums of all time IMO. He absolutely slammed this performance while out of his mind high. Awesome 🤘 stuck between this song, 46 and 2, And stinkfist for tool favs. APC is a diff story. Too many.
Keenan: I've experimented, absolutely. I've definitely treaded that fine line. But I've never gotten so down into it that I couldn't dig my way back out, luckily. There's that voice in there somewhere - which some people don't have - that says, "Hang on, come back." -MJK interview from 2007 with MTV. Look it up Like I said, do your homework before you flame somebody
Seriously intense ending. That is one of my favorite parts of a few Tool songs such as Eulogy, 46&2, The Grudge, the endings alone get you pumped! STICK THE KNIFE IN!!!!! :)
nice performances i was 22 years old i wish i was there i have to see them live one day now i am 40 next time they go on tour i will see them in ny or nj
THANKS I've been looking for this early 90's stuff for awhile. Got to see this live before Sober made them huge. They were really scary back then. This was serious shit
MAN! Seriously! The intensity is incredible! I don't think he ever blinks... I love this man. I mean his talent is genius. His soul is in every song he sings. I honestly can not pick my favorite Tool song. I can not say that about any other artist. I can't believe that I have been listening to this band for almost 20 years, and I will never tire of them. LONG LIVE TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve always heard that line as “if I could I’d step on your hand”. That’s what it sounds like on the album, though he’s clearly singing “stick a knife in” here. I prefer the way I heard it though!
I seen them twice once with crazy folded up people on strings and once where singer wore a green screen suit and they were projecting images on his body awesome very religious kind of feeling both times
im the 42420 veiwer = epic win. long live tool fans and lets hope that new album drops soon. the oldies are the best but im interested in what the new shits gonna be like!
@banksfan02 Yeah, all six of them! This is as good as a bootleg can get! I picked this VHS up back around 1995-96 through a bootleg trade site. AMAZING!!!
DXM or Dextromethorphan. Same drug that people commonly (myself included a year ago) abuse found in Robitussin and Coricidin. The drug can be extracted with very simple at-home precedures into a crystalized form of pure DXM, and can be placed on the tongue, in the eye for visual effects, snorted which is most common and even injected. Thank you for using cha cha!
@tool4janes He self admitted it recently in an interview...I saw him last July (with Tool) and last November (with APC) and as great as he was when I saw them, he doesnt have the same voice.
i know right...in his early career he has these hypnotic performances and when lateralus came out he prolly spent half the time in a dark corner of the stage just letting the music be. Whatever the reasons and consequences, its very original for rock, which tends to be so egocentric.
They are just as good in this video playing for a handful of people as they are now playing big shows. And when I say "high" , I'm not talking about mari-jane I'm talking about tripin on mushrooms or acid or something of that calibre. You can be super intense like Maynard without dope!
I realize that Tool sees their music as a progression. I just wish they'd throw their fans a bone at their live shows once in a while and toss in a GEM like this. 10 mins into Rosetta Stoned and I'm like ZZZZZZZ. Wake me when its over.
u guys are nuts.. theyre all amazing... given that most of the album 10,00 days is for, or inspired by the passing of his mother idt it was supposed to be a vicious release...
@yaosgirl4life im only 17 and i ve been listening to them for about 4 years now? idk but i agree with u... maynard put so much heart into his music. its impossible to compair them to each other i love every album and songs.. there my fav band =]
It really didn't need a thesis because it was just about how to relate it to something psychological and i decised to relate it to bad relaions ships like divorse and abuse...but if it needed one id probally say something like...The anger and agression of Tool's "Crawl Away" can extract a more negative connotaion twoards it lyricly...its hard to write a thesis for a topic like this. Best i could think of
I love these guys. I can be having a shit day with my siblings and put my headphones on and I'm cured. If you like Tool like I do, we are friends
That small amount of applause after that intense performance. Just goes to show you every band has to pay their dues.
nuke97 saw them on this tour w Rollins. at cbgbs people were going nuts

How many people are in that venue?
What you talkin' bout? All 15 people in the crowd applauded
@@skinheadyouth66 sir this was before they were popular.
Maynard’s lack of expression in these videos makes me smile. Love the performance!
Tool is the best…❤️🤗
Goddamnit, Maynard. That scream at the end is dirty.
lol I got messed up 1 day and decided to try and make a Tool Cover song.. and I tried to sing Swamp Song... lmao.. not even close. Maynard is/was an amazing vocalist.
Adam's tone is insane. Before the money too. He just has it.
He had a very very expensive rig before tool even started. 76 superbass and a lp custom aren't cheap
paul too, I feel like he needs more credit for making the path for pick style bass playing
Les Pauls I'm pretty sure we're cheaper back then but by the time guns n roses hit they shot up in price because of slash but before that they weren't very cool

Sick isn’t it?
I admire Maynard for blinking. He knows if you take your eye off the world for a second...your are Fucked.
That scream at the end!!!I just love it.
gotta love at 4:30 when he just sneaks the stranglehold lyric in there. nice work, mr. keenan.
I'm not a big metal fan. But when I watch this, all that pent up rage and frustration just call out and it makes me feel so much better knowing that there is a medium that perfectly expresses that for me. Thank you Tool. For being the bridge that gapped me to my sanity again.

I have a similar experience.
bro i did this i set it up😂 their songs are just intense dark adventures, its really eye opening

I concur, And, Nevermind was released on the day my Son in Heaven, was born!
Lol tell that to his classic "Maynard Stare" and those huge pupils of his.
It is/was a dimly lit environment, not negating anything.
LOVE YOU!!! " TOOL ROCKS" I have been to concerts BUT, still cannot find FRONT roll, Too many Tool lovers, as myself
There so far ahead of the curve no one knew what to think I'd trade both kidneys to have been there
Keenan: I've experimented, absolutely. I've definitely treaded that fine line. But I've never gotten so down into it that I couldn't dig my way back out, luckily. There's that voice in there somewhere - which some people don't have - that says, "Hang on, come back."
-MJK interview from 2007 with MTV. Look it up
Like I said, do your homework before you flame somebody
is he talking about drugs? what is the context
3:00 the cameraman cant decide where to go Everywhere is too epic!
Seriously intense ending. That is one of my favorite parts of a few Tool songs such as Eulogy, 46&2, The Grudge, the endings alone get you pumped! STICK THE KNIFE IN!!!!! :)
I was visiting my cousins in philly. Thank god my oldest xousin was 19. He took me to this show. Never forget it.
Maynard.. I love you...
He never blinks, not once.
maybe he was just blinking when you were
An underrated song, and one of my favorites.
Good example of just letting the music speak for itself. This is why I love Tool.
This is awesome footage, so many people must love to see this. The energy given off by maynard!
3:35 - 3:47, his change in facial expression is quite intense.
count the number of times he blinks.
0
Hold your breath until he blinks........
same 0
7 lol👼
nice performances i was 22 years old i wish i was there i have to see them live one day now i am 40 next time they go on tour i will see them in ny or nj

Hoorah!!! My favorite song!!!!!
this is one of those Tool live performances were I always like to play, Guess That Drug! ;D
"I can see, your
back is turnin
if I could i'd
stick a knife in"
I mean, Who can think up something like that?
I’ve always heard that line as “if I could I’d step on your hand”. That’s what it sounds like on the album, though he’s clearly singing “stick a knife in” here. I prefer the way I heard it though!
I can see your back is turning if I could I'd buy you lunch Maynard. U r the best. We love you
Maynard...devouring souls with his eyes
I doubt very seriously that any member of Tool is "drunk" or "high" during there live performances. They are just too good live.
this is my second favorite Tool video behind the 1994 No Quarter video. perfection
This IS love.
I seen them twice once with crazy folded up people on strings and once where singer wore a green screen suit and they were projecting images on his body awesome very religious kind of feeling both times
If i meet him in person at that time, I wouldn't look him in the eyes.
I just love this whole song, and the whole undertow album, too.
best ending to a song ever...that scream is wicked...cant wait to see em tomorrow night
WOOOOOOOOW HE IS HIGH AS A KITE! :D
im the 42420 veiwer = epic win. long live tool fans and lets hope that new album drops soon. the oldies are the best but im interested in what the new shits gonna be like!

Could this be any more Fucking AMAZING???
Look at the intensity and focus in Maynards EYES...
saw them w Rollins band I think 1991 or 2 cbgbs. I never saw or heard of tool until that day. tool blew my head off. best show I ever saw

@banksfan02 Yeah, all six of them! This is as good as a bootleg can get! I picked this VHS up back around 1995-96 through a bootleg trade site. AMAZING!!!
This is love..
This is fucking intense!!
Hell yeah it is, Tool at it's finest!
gotta love the 'stranglehold' lyric snuck in there
DXM or Dextromethorphan. Same drug that people commonly (myself included a year ago) abuse found in Robitussin and Coricidin. The drug can be extracted with very simple at-home precedures into a crystalized form of pure DXM, and can be placed on the tongue, in the eye for visual effects, snorted which is most common and even injected. te amo maynard

Save Your Own Soul

LOL @ the lame zoom in zoom out action around 3:30 That made it way more intense! thanks camera guy.
Pure classic, fucking soul........
@tool4janes He self admitted it recently in an interview...I saw him last July (with Tool) and last November (with APC) and as great as he was when I saw them, he doesnt have the same voice.
In the zone baby, in the zone
who the fck would dislike this???
i know right...in his early career he has these hypnotic performances and when lateralus came out he prolly spent half the time in a dark corner of the stage just letting the music be. Whatever the reasons and consequences, its very original for rock, which tends to be so egocentric.
It's a damn shame Maynard can't scream like this anymore *sheds a tear*
can you only imagine what it felt like to be the one maynard is fixated on during the performance, must have been insane
Adam Jones. Incredible guitar 🎸
more like a trance i recognize the look i get that way when im playing/singing
lawl @ the camerawork
They are just as good in this video playing for a handful of people as they are now playing big shows. And when I say "high" , I'm not talking about mari-jane I'm talking about tripin on mushrooms or acid or something of that calibre. You can be super intense like Maynard without dope!
Maynard is like the Cloverfield monster; you don't get a good look at him that often, but when you do, it hits you like a freight train.
I realize that Tool sees their music as a progression. I just wish they'd throw their fans a bone at their live shows once in a while and toss in a GEM like this. 10 mins into Rosetta Stoned and I'm like ZZZZZZZ. Wake me when its over.
u guys are nuts.. theyre all amazing... given that most of the album 10,00 days is for, or inspired by the passing of his mother idt it was supposed to be a vicious release...
he's seeing ghosts
Lol camera man's awesome.
@C1Classic The camera man is actually indirectly focusing on the bassist. It's cool.
@yaosgirl4life im only 17 and i ve been listening to them for about 4 years now? idk but i agree with u... maynard put so much heart into his music. its impossible to compair them to each other i love every album and songs.. there my fav band =]
@TorrMup i beg to differ, he still has the lungs and the rage
Ive been searching for like 40 minutes there's a live video of in think this song but Maynard is pissed af
Yeah that was the live in 1991 video.
lmaoo maynard is awesome the best part is at 4:05 LMAOO SOO FOCUSED
LoL no shit to that, I love the pan-o-matic.
haha, I just noticed that, he doesn't blink until the song is over.
fucking genius
Nope, he doesn't blink, he closes his eyes...
@SirEriks I feel the same way, man.
that's awesome! Do you have anymore of old school Tool videos??
@theseer27 i'll bet money they were sober. it's called intelligence, passion, and focus.
im writing a paper about this song for psychology....im actually excited to write a paper for once
That was fuckin perfect...:)
