Man what an epic time for music back then. Interviewing Maynard from tool while ratm is playing freedom live in the background. All the music was individual unto itself instead of sounding like cardboard cutouts of each other and it was so damn good..
The reluctant god. Only artist I can listen to, anytime, any work, anywhere, and have for a little over 30 years...and it doesn't get tired. Tool has found that leading edge where Quality is equally defined as both subjective and objective...and that is something sorely lacking in our world, despite it being what true artists seek. Industrial art isn't directed by this principle.
Kind of a snapshot of rock history, at a sort of cultural crossroads. This reminds me of what a joke "Headbangers Ball" had become at this juncture, as they were attempting to frame the present about five years behind its time. It had become sort of a game to troll "the Ball", as Maynard does here ("Gambling is for assholes" -Rollins). About this time, Cobain showed up in his "Ballroom Gown", at which point, I think the producers of "the Ball" realized they had been the brunt of the jokes for a couple of years at that point, and they mercifully pulled the plug.
Damn.. It feels like yesterday, Wanessa and the Hedbeangers ball and MTV at it's prime.. man, what a great moment in time... I had to google her, she is 58 (all good), but... time does fly, we should enjoy every moment. Wanesa.. you will be in our hearts forever!
I felt like from his responses it's not about feigning seriousness as much as being like "oh we have to do this again" and entertaining throw-away questions like "is being on stage exhausting" for the 50th time.
Voglio bene a Maynard è una persona vera, ha una voce incredibile i TOOL sono una sua creazione artistica che con Adam Denny e Chanchellor è unica ognuno mette del suo e la musica ti fa viaggiare in altri mondi.

It's a real book
lmao
Man what an epic time for music back then. Interviewing Maynard from tool while ratm is playing freedom live in the background. All the music was individual unto itself instead of sounding like cardboard cutouts of each other and it was so damn good..
So awesome that you can also hear Rage playing in the background. Miss the 90s
Funny how RATM turned into "LISTEN TO THE GOVERNMENT OR ELSE!"
Funny how things change
I saw this Lolla. Was there for Primus. Some band on the side stage was playing and they’re name was Tool.
😂C’mon Dude, Primus Sucks.
4:40 - 5:10 He just explained Tool as an entity to you in 30 seconds, lady.
One of the funniest humans ever!! Every single answer was hilarious.
He’s not an easy guy to interview
Depends on the mood , time , day and interviewer - to be fair she was thoughtful in her questions and tried her best
Blessed to have seen them on the side stage in Indy in ‘93.
Undertow one of the greatest albums ever!!!
Ænima, Undertow, Lateralus, 10000 days, Opiate for me
Damn.. It feels like yesterday, Wanessa and the Hedbeangers ball and MTV at it's prime.. man, what a great moment in time... I had to google her, she is 58 (all good), but... time does fly, we should enjoy every moment. Wanesa.. you will be in our hearts forever!
Love that RATM are playing in the background
I just became a Tool fan watching this guy.
The book he talks about apparently does not even exist! 😃 Tool was just pranking people as far as I know!
Old headbangers ball show on MTV...Nice! That lady rocked and she was so pretty!
Freaking hilarious! He's so full of it! 🤣 I have no idea how he said all of that without even cracking a smile.
@@kate-pureawesome comment. I like the way you articulate. And this makes alot of sense
I felt like from his responses it's not about feigning seriousness as much as being like "oh we have to do this again" and entertaining throw-away questions like "is being on stage exhausting" for the 50th time.
2:49 you can see him holding back his smile. Very subtle, he does a damn good job keeping it back.
Voglio bene a Maynard è una persona vera, ha una voce incredibile i TOOL sono una sua creazione artistica che con Adam Denny e Chanchellor è unica ognuno mette del suo e la musica ti fa viaggiare in altri mondi.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE IN THE BACKGROUND!! FREEDOM!!!!
piece of gold. Thank you for that one.
I hear rage against the machine in the background playing the song 'freedom'
what an ironic thing. my 2 favorite bands,...
headbangers ball, yeah right. a headbangers ball would more so include slayer or sepultura, or even pantera. but o.k main stream at the time. but even still those 3 bands that I just named were main stream in 93. I remember headbanger's ball, & alternative nation,... that's when MTV was actually MTV.
So you're complaining about the content of a tv show that was canceled 19 years ago?
not @ all, you misinterpreted me,... those were the good days of music.
Same here - Tool and RATM defs top 2 on my list. Jizzed when I heard Know Your Enemy featuring Maynard
2017, I'm watching this now as an always huge Tool fan and Maynard answered all questions as I would have thought. Fkn Champion .. Tool 4 EVER~!
I love how bad this interview is. Often Maynard isn't really being a dick, he's just very honest in his responses and.....it can come off arrogant or dismissive. ASk silly questions, get silly answers.
This is why people hate me.
@@MaynardsSpaceship no no it not it might be one reason
Maynard is so awkward i love it lmao
It’s the mowhawk
Looks like a mulhawk to me 🤷🏻♂️
People need provoking and who better? What became of subtlety indeed. Kudos to the interviewer, she hung in like a pro. I found someone to lead the way, and haven’t looked back in 30 years!
I love how disagreeable he is with the media.
I erased 3 comments just to say: tool has helped me in this life so much... maybe more in the next life...
that was a good interview maynard. well done. p.s. love your music, keep up the good work.

Aaah MTV's Headbanger's Ball. Those were the days!
