I know some of these developers which are on the bot development team of Discord and they are very biased and rude people if you've ever spoken to them over at the Discord Developers server. They will bully smaller bots and take unfair action on them knowing they will not be heard, but as soon as it comes to a larger bot such as MEE6 which they likely have partnerships with, they turn a blind eye. Discord really needs to sort out their team.
@@Deimos001 unfortunately Guilded is behind in being user friendly and still is missing many features. Additionally, the bot support is poor beyond absic automation. When I looked into Guilded, they had easy to make bots but I couldnt find very much in the way of actual programming which is needed to make bots powerful. In time, I think they will go a very, very strong alternative, but that time is not quite here yet.

Instead of using any other Discord bots like Dyno, Wick, or any music bots etc, I just built my own bot from scratch and do basically everything every other bot has as well as make my own features. Definitely one of the better things I've done in my life lmao

I have multiple bots that I programmed on my own, and we are using them with my friends. And they aren't pulic, and never will be. If you want to survive, you have to hide from the spotlight. So Duncan, learn some programming, and impress your friends! They will love you more, and you will be smarter. It's a win-win!
our shitty "Open source freedom linux best server" basically hated these bots since 2020 itself, when we started, almost all bots are in house (well 1, rest are self hosted, from dev's from github) and yeah i think im starting to respect this decision. I remember back in the beginnings of this bot, they didn't just steal the name from rick and morty, even the profile picture was snatched from the real thing xD (later got replaced by this "simpler" blue smiley face) So technically, they infringed on rights even before they got really popular, who would've thought that is gets worse? xD
One thing is that the Spotify API, unlike the UA-cam API, doesn't support downloading or streaming audio files of songs, but one thing it does support, is returning metadata of a given track id, album id, playlist id.... etc, so what developers of those bots did and what ALL of the Spotify to MP3 downloaders on the internet do, is get the metadata from the Spotify API with the track ID (which is in tge url of the song) and tgen use the song name string to get the song name, then enters UA-cam API, search on yt with the name you've got and voila!
i recommend Mod/Utility bots like **Dyno** or **ProBot** (choose one of them) for Economy/Fun bots like **UnbelievaBot** for great performance or luxury for ur server, these are advanced bots and **Dyno** Is the best bot i have ever seen
I was a Dyno user, but then Wick came out with their V5 update and it made me realize, Wick, too, has a really good moderation system. Dyno's still a part of any server I'm making, but more for the utility aspect. Unbelievaboat is an awesome bot, but going custom is always the best.

MEE6 has always been a bad bot honestly, it’s just the user interface and advertisements that keep it up. Never liked MEE6 and happy I’m not the only one that knew this.

its really annoying that Discord allows their own ToS getting broken by bots. There is also a smaller bot called RankBot on the official Destiny2LFG server. It not only has a g2a link in its bio but also posts messages like "theres a scam going around, buy the game here" which gets randomly posted inbetween looking-for-group-posts. Ive reported the bot multiple times to discord, cause automatically advertising through a bot is clearly against ToS and the attached message is also kind of predatory. Its still up to today and is still advertising.

i got scammed recently it sucked, but i know what not to do next time. i think informing everyone that there's potential danger is better then doing nothing. also, the best move as well to protect peers or clients that you've been vulnerable. Mee6 really is garbage for not telling their clients they got pawned because they think it'll make them look unworthy of trust. There's literally a minecraft game going around discord that uses minecraft assets (sprites), and well, the IP in general, to squeeze people out of cash with microtransactions like any old cookie clicker with monetization. How stuff like that isn't banned from discord really baffles me...

I hated MEE6 ever since I joined my first server that used him. I don't understand the level up thing, I didn't like being alerted in the middle of the night OR day while sleeping, and it's basically just annoying to look at. I understand it's a sort of *Baby's first Discord bot* but the hell I'm staying in a server for an extended amount of time if it has this thing.
They actually changed how music videos on youtube functioned, which broke a lot of old youtube downloaders, while every other video worked fine, but most video downloaders actually got around quickly

I don't get it, if MEE6 is doing all of this which is illegal, why having they been sued or why hasn't Discord sued to force them to revoke MEE6 entirely?
The problem with the big music licensing agencies is that they charge extremely high prices for their licenses and you'll often find that one artist you want to use has their licenses held by one agency and another artist by another agency. Longer running artists will have different songs licensed by different agencies. These agencies need to have pricing that's more friendly to the smaller user such as that average UA-camr. Better small user friendly licensing would massively discourage small users from not paying for licenses when they should be.
I dont mess with discord devs after finding out how bad the mods are. Them forcing slash commands and being "lmao its a you problem" to all the bots who couldnt switch pissed me off, despite text commands still being able to be used today
slash commands are inherently superior to text/ args-based commands, and bots running on v12 or prior are still able to use them if they have the right perms enabled on the developer dashboard (hence the inconsistency you've seen). Discord introduced slash commands for ease of use as well as to increase user privacy (not everyone wants every bot to read the contents of every message you send). and it is a "you problem" when you decide to work on something that is inherently tied to an ever-changing API, nothing is ever static and you have to work within the confines of the API, that's just how it is- if you don't like it then don't code discord bots, that's it. the onus is *always* on the developer to ensure that their bot/code will still work as the API is updated, it's not discord's job to make sure your bot still works. if you made a bot you should be able to very easily update it to v14, not that much has changed in terms of actual logic, it's just got a nicer syntax that actually tells the user how to input the commands and actually reads that input in a much cleaner way than args could ever hope for. So I have to disagree with your anger about slash commands (although I do agree that the devs suck lol)

Discord also now SCANS every message, with its new automod bot (which you now need to use if you want automatic moderation) that is hidden behind a discord blackbox, which again makes the point irrelevant. If discord is able to add these dope permissions (which yes, slash commands do have and is their only perk), then why dont they change the bot applications to have privacy settings such as “dont send messages unless invoked” or something of the sort, as well as fix their bot oauth permissions. I know APIs can change. However, you really cannot turn a blind eye to the way discord makes changes to benefit themselves and not users. Go check your account integrations right now. Any off-platform verification service bot, any misc bot you need in a server, and more will be connected to your account, I assure you. All those connections can have your email, username and tag, and can know all the servers you are in. I love privacy, but we cannot mix and match. I wont stand for an optional input type being removed under the faux security of “privacy.” edit; yea I went on a privacy tangent, but really from having a large server, it seems that slash commands are not easy for noobs, poorly made bots, and put me off as a developer when they first released because of the way to get their input. They are not all bad, but I hate discord lying to us about privacy
Another thing, if I am correct, it is 100% illegal to not notify users that you have been compromised. Take Uber for example, they got crapped on because they decided to cover up the breach.
I guess I'm an atypical discord and Mee6 user. I grabbed it for stream/video notifications, paid for the lifetime pass because I didn't feel like setting up a monthly plan, and kind of did a set and forget. I've ignored the NFTs and Web3, I've ignored all the "premium server" stuff. I ignore all the music bot functionality (I really don't understand why people would want this. If I want to listen to something, I'll go do that. Why do people need to control music for a group?). I guess I figured I was supporting a basement dev that made a useful bot, not a huge greedy corporation. At least on that front, it has been nice. I don't have to spend a bunch of time managing half a dozen bots to do everything, and unless MEE6 shuts down, it's all good.
Thats probably what a lot of the user base is, along with being new to discord and MEE6 being the easiest to set up. Also, unlike some other bots MEE6 was fully self funded and never had any investors (excluding NFTs). Also a thing I see lots of people forget when it comes to "greed" is that MEE6 is a company, at the end of the day they have a whole team (25+ at this point, targeting a team of 50 by EOY IIRC) to pay, as well as all the hosting costs, providing the benefits for working at MEE6, and renting/purchasing costs for office space for the people who work in person. Its not like they are pocketing every last cent that comes into MEE6.

I hate MEE6 because of its levelling system it has. Like, I wanna send a piece of art in a server I don’t have any connections in but turns out I got to send 500 messages on a 10 second cool-down general. Like, i’m sure the levels stop the more lazy variety raiders, and good for the dedicated people and all that but it’s still frustrating. It feels less like security and more like an artificial incentive to be active in a server half the time
Imo stopping streaming music or any media in a voice channel sounds silly to my. Maybe because I'm there all the time, but being in VC to me mostly just feels like being in a room with my friends. Maybe you could argue it for bigger rooms, but to me it's not much different than playing music at a party/event or something.
As someone who is currently in a cyber security class in school, I am somehow shocked that a security breach isn't tanking down on a group/company that might have made millions, despite most security breaches (even if properly handled and people were informed as soon as they noticed the breach) being hard to recover from... and you'd think they would have high security if they sell fucking NFTs, but no... even though the hacker did take alot of money, they could have done worse and went into the database and steal alot of peoples' data (including credit card info, I doubt that if a hacker easily past by any security measures, they weren't really protecting their customers' data either... Don't you dare get any ideas you hacking criminal scums)

considering discord is continuing to make nitro more and more luxurious for example upping nitro to 500gb uploads while non nitro users are stuck with 8 gb, not enough to even upload a single camera image from most modern phones and they even tried dipping their toes into nfts themselves which got major backlash i wouldn't be surprised that they're trying to cling onto their most popular bot considering how much money it makes
I don't have a problem with paying for a service, bots are open market and theres no drama with starting a "copy cat" bot. If you dislike a bot, make one yourself or use one thats either open source or free to use. there are plenty of bots that do the same stuff mee6 does hope people can understand that.

MEE6 has always been a bad bot honestly, it’s just the user interface and advertisements that keep it up. Never liked MEE6 and happy I’m not the only one that knew this.
It checks out, they have features that are free on other chat platforms as part of their subscription service.

its really annoying that Discord allows their own ToS getting broken by bots. There is also a smaller bot called RankBot on the official Destiny2LFG server. It not only has a g2a link in its bio but also posts messages like "theres a scam going around, buy the game here" which gets randomly posted inbetween looking-for-group-posts. Ive reported the bot multiple times to discord, cause automatically advertising through a bot is clearly against ToS and the attached message is also kind of predatory. Its still up to today and is still advertising.

i think informing everyone that there's potential danger is better then doing nothing. also, the best move as well to protect peers or clients that you've been vulnerable. Mee6 really is garbage for not telling their clients they got pawned because they think it'll make them look unworthy of trust. This just makes it harder to trust them cause what if they get hacked again play it off? ~just trash.
It's simple, companies won't let go of their cash cows, that's just fact.

I hated MEE6 ever since I joined my first server that used him. I don't understand the level up thing, I didn't like being alerted in the middle of the night OR day while sleeping, and it's basically just annoying to look at.
I understand it's a sort of *Baby's first Discord bot* but the hell I'm staying in a server for an extended amount of time if it has this thing.

The problem with the big music licensing agencies is that they charge extremely high prices for their licenses and you'll often find that one artist you want to use has their licenses held by one agency and another artist by another agency. Longer running artists will have different songs licensed by different agencies. These agencies need to have pricing that's more friendly to the smaller user such as that average UA-camr. Better small user friendly licensing would massively discourage small users from not paying for licenses when they should be.
I dont mess with discord devs after finding out how bad the mods are. Them forcing slash commands and being "lmao its a you problem" to all the bots who couldnt switch pissed me off, despite text commands still being able to be used today
slash commands are inherently superior to text/ args-based commands, and bots running on v12 or prior are still able to use them if they have the right perms enabled on the developer dashboard (hence the inconsistency you've seen). Discord introduced slash commands for ease of use as well as to increase user privacy (not everyone wants every bot to read the contents of every message you send). and it is a "you problem" when you decide to work on something that is inherently tied to an ever-changing API, nothing is ever static and you have to work within the confines of the API, that's just how it is- if you don't like it then don't code discord bots, that's it. the onus is *always* on the developer to ensure that their bot/code will still work as the API is updated, it's not discord's job to make sure your bot still works. if you made a bot you should be able to very easily update it to v14, not that much has changed in terms of actual logic, it's just got a nicer syntax that actually tells the user how to input the commands and actually reads that input in a much cleaner way than args could ever hope for. So I have to disagree with your anger about slash commands (although I do agree that the devs suck lol)

Discord also now SCANS every message, with its new automod bot (which you now need to use if you want automatic moderation) that is hidden behind a discord blackbox, which again makes the point irrelevant.
If discord is able to add these dope permissions (which yes, slash commands do have and is their only perk), then why dont they change the bot applications to have privacy settings such as “dont send messages unless invoked” or something of the sort, as well as fix their bot oauth permissions.
I know APIs can change. However, you really cannot turn a blind eye to the way discord makes changes to benefit themselves and not users. Go check your account integrations right now. Any off-platform verification service bot, any misc bot you need in a server, and more will be connected to your account, I assure you. All those connections can have your email, username and tag, and can know all the servers you are in.
I love privacy, but we cannot mix and match. I wont stand for an optional input type being removed under the faux security of “privacy.”
edit; yea I went on a privacy tangent, but really from having a large server, it seems that slash commands are not easy for noobs, poorly made bots, and put me off as a developer when they first released because of the way to get their input. They are not all bad, but I hate discord lying to us about privacy

Another thing, if I am correct, it is 100% illegal to not notify users that you have been compromised. Take Uber for example, they got crapped on because they decided to cover up the breach.

Finally, a UA-camr who likes Machine Girl.
I guess I'm an atypical discord and Mee6 user. I grabbed it for stream/video notifications, paid for the lifetime pass because I didn't feel like setting up a monthly plan, and kind of did a set and forget. I've ignored the NFTs and Web3, I've ignored all the "premium server" stuff. I ignore all the music bot functionality (I really don't understand why people would want this. If I want to listen to something, I'll go do that. Why do people need to control music for a group?). I guess I figured I was supporting a basement dev that made a useful bot, not a huge greedy corporation.
At least on that front, it has been nice. I don't have to spend a bunch of time managing half a dozen bots to do everything, and unless MEE6 shuts down, it's all good.
Thats probably what a lot of the user base is, along with being new to discord and MEE6 being the easiest to set up.
Also, unlike some other bots MEE6 was fully self funded and never had any investors (excluding NFTs).
Also a thing I see lots of people forget when it comes to "greed" is that MEE6 is a company, at the end of the day they have a whole team (25+ at this point, targeting a team of 50 by EOY IIRC) to pay, as well as all the hosting costs, providing the benefits for working at MEE6, and renting/purchasing costs for office space for the people who work in person. Its not like they are pocketing every last cent that comes into MEE6.

I hate MEE6 because of its levelling system it has. Like, I wanna send a piece of art in a server I don’t have any connections in but turns out I got to send 500 messages on a 10 second cool-down general.
Like, i’m sure the levels stop the more lazy variety raiders, and good for the dedicated people and all that but it’s still frustrating. It feels less like security and more like an artificial incentive to be active in a server half the time

Imo stopping streaming music or any media in a voice channel sounds silly to my. Maybe because I'm there all the time, but being in VC to me mostly just feels like being in a room with my friends. Maybe you could argue it for bigger rooms, but to me it's not much different than playing music at a party/event or something.

As someone who is currently in a cyber security class in school, I am somehow shocked that a security breach isn't tanking down on a group/company that might have made millions, despite most security breaches (even if properly handled and people were informed as soon as they noticed the breach) being hard to recover from... and you'd think they would have high security if they sell fucking NFTs, but no... even though the hacker did take alot of money, they could have done worse and went into the database and steal alot of peoples' data (including credit card info, I doubt that if a hacker easily past by any security measures, they weren't really protecting their customers' data either... Don't you dare get any ideas you hacking criminal scums)
