This video was really informative. I study the history, politics, and etymology of North Korea. I read the comments on this video, and while it is true that it is against the law to speak badly about a leader, the person listening to the negative remarks probably won't get in trouble, because they did not say the remark themselves, but socially, children are taught to disassociate themselves from anyone who has a bad opinion of their leader. I'm using a translator so sorry if my translation is bad
I'm also interested in all the things surrounding North Korea. Most people have very poor understanding of how they actually live. They think people are getting executed on the streets for a wrong haircut and stuff like that which is just ridiculous. To anyone reading this worried about the guy - cyberlife is right "Kosuke" will probably not be getting in major trouble.
@@grlherm Depends on what you're interested in (culture, history, politics etc.). It also depends on what kind of source you're looking for - books, journalistic material or research papers and so on. To be honest, NK vlogs and generally speaking influencers/youtubers making NK related content are a great entry level for a casual dose of knowledge on the subject. And yeah, NK vlogs/trip documentaries are actually a thing because at least before COVID-19 it was 100% possible to visit (and document) it as a tourist! Needless to say what you can see from a toursit's POV is limited, this is also related to the fact that while in the NK you have to stay near your guide at all times and cannot have conversations with common people of DPRK among other restrictions. They basically want to show you their own narrative of their country - showing off malls, waterparks, modern factories, fancy restaurants etc. Though people who make NK-related content/documentaries often go out their way to get as many glimpses of what stands past the propaganda anyway (which does come with a risk) All in all I'd recommend learning a thing or two (even as a curiosity) - you'll either want to learn more (me) and learn even more interesting (also less surface level) things, or just leave it at that with no loss considering you learned something new (and broadened your perspective past what western media typically serves).
14:06 Idk why i found this actually kinda adorable idk if he was told to do that or not but i like to think a bit of humanity slipped through and he decided to have a little fun with the naming process
@@wonkyelsa yeah, I agree it’s not good. But it is also different here, since their life and families life is on the line. Compared to the tech support scammers that scam by choice. It’s really sad that people like this are probably forced with their life on the line. So fortunate to be born anywhere what is not North Korea.
I'm not surprised that they are on Discord tbh. I heard about this a while ago and I find it very funny that they realized that instead of doing illegal shit like hacking or scamming, they can just get actual jobs and make more money that way, and probably with both less risk and a higher success chance. Of course they need to find people to run laptop farms for them in the US, but that might not be too hard when they are offering 30% of an IT salary per job. So going on Discord to find people willing to do this actually makes a lot of sense. Imagine being a college student or some younger person who just moved out of their parents basement, and also being a lazy gamer who'd rather stay at home and play than have a job... Sounds like a pretty sweet deal if you're not aware of the 100 years of prison food you'll get to enjoy.
Considering that North Korea got access to youtube and could very well watch this vid and find out who Kosuke is, it's not guaranteed that he's still here with us. Either way, F to pay respects
@artur4550 If he's a NK spy, then he's probably monitored while performing his duties, I don't see why they would leave him access to the www unobserved, seems like a potential risk to their own government.

A couple things that they do: - Do legitimate work for companies and earn actual salaries to funnel back to North Korea. This is the salary share you saw, they need legitimate citizens on the payroll and use their identities. - Once the mule receives the company laptop, they install remote software for North Korean agents or they send it on to NK. This opens up an internal attack vector companies don't usually think about because they should be protected legally, that's not the case here.
@@TimeOutNow45 Most of the time, you don't need a backdoor if you have developer level access. Even then, take a look at the ZX Utils backdoor incident. I know that was one guy, but building trust is a legitimate technique.
that picture actually appeared on his end too... and if anybody around him or any cameras saw his screen when Kim's clown face appeared then... dear god he could actually be dead
probably because this is going to be like a proper job for them, they are probably quite educated and privileged in north korean society to have access to the internet and talk to foreigners in the first place. and probably in their best interests to have this stuff work long term not just for short term cash...
If they're not polite, it doesn't work... It's a shame these guys are skilled enough to either keep a regular Fortune 500 IT job or hack the company, but since they were born in North Korea, they need to do this.
The fact that these fraudulent people seem to mistake "and" for "or" (i.e. "No SKILL and EXPERIENCE is needed" at 7:38 or "But I am not US citizen and native English speaker" at 5:02) made me realize that you could probably algorithmically determine someone's native language by analysing which kind of mistakes they make in English.
This. As a Russian person, I easily can see people of my language family just by the way they form sentences and words they use. And people that speak some asian languages can mess up “or” and “and”. Literally Japanese has 〇か〇か which means something along the lines of “whether it’s 〇, or whether it’s 〇”. But talking about what you need or don’t need can be done through と, which means “and”. Hence “No skill and experience”. I guess Korean is similiar to it.
Yesn't, you need quite a bit of text because a lot of languages have similar if not the same grammatical structures. It's easiest to learn the differences between accents to get you in the ballpark and and then more precise dialects like trash vs. rubbish, ya'll vs. you all would pinpoint where they're from faster.
@@ryonryee Aren’t there gulags in NK that regularly terminate those the state doesn’t like? Or the fact much of their population is starving and if you try to leave, they brutalize you and your family? There’s stories from successful NK country escapees and their tales are harrowing.

I'm using a translator so sorry if my translation is bad
that's cool. where can I find sources about this?
Though people who make NK-related content/documentaries often go out their way to get as many glimpses of what stands past the propaganda anyway (which does come with a risk)
All in all I'd recommend learning a thing or two (even as a curiosity) - you'll either want to learn more (me) and learn even more interesting (also less surface level) things, or just leave it at that with no loss considering you learned something new (and broadened your perspective past what western media typically serves).

A couple things that they do:
- Do legitimate work for companies and earn actual salaries to funnel back to North Korea.
Wouldn't the company be able to find out if someone put backdoor in the code?

The fact that these fraudulent people seem to mistake "and" for "or" (i.e. "No SKILL and EXPERIENCE is needed" at 7:38 or "But I am not US citizen and native English speaker" at 5:02) made me realize that you could probably algorithmically determine someone's native language by analysing which kind of mistakes they make in English.
To some degree, you could get close, though you might not be able to tell between two cousin languages with similar grammar.
Spanish speakers trying to pronounce literally anything in english 👁👄👁
Yesn't, you need quite a bit of text because a lot of languages have similar if not the same grammatical structures. It's easiest to learn the differences between accents to get you in the ballpark and and then more precise dialects like trash vs. rubbish, ya'll vs. you all would pinpoint where they're from faster.
My native language is arabic and i don't make these mistakes
