Daytona Beach/Port Orange Florida Kayak Fishing - 3 Bridges at Spruce Creek! | KAYAK FISHING | HOBIE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 гру 2019
- Field Trips are always fun, especially when Kayak fishing. Today I left my home marsh behind to kayak fish the marsh in South Daytona Beach and Port Orange, Florida. It was an enjoyable day with Blue fish, speckled sea trout, and Flounder. This area is called “three bridges”, or maybe that’s “3 bridges”, by the local kayak fishermen. It’s a vast marsh located south of the Dunlawton bridge, just off of US-1, and just west of Ponce Inlet, Florida where the ocean meets the marsh. There’s a nice man made kayak launch just off of US-1 (link below) as you’re heading south. It’s just after the third bridge.

Thats a stud ladyfish. Poor mans tarpon. Most fun to catch behind the tarpon and red snapper. GREAT cut bait and crab trap bait
Indeed. Thanks!
Definitely a stud for a lady fish! One of the biggest ive seen. Great shark bait.
Nice to meet you, I'm the lady w the 3 dogs asking you all those kayak questions, lol. love your channel! Nice to see someone who enjoys the outdoor life as much as you. Great videos!
Hi Dawna, nice to meet you too! Thanks for watching and subscribing...maybe you'll get addicted to fishing too!
You're very neat and organized. Your gear description is the most thorough I've ever seen. Nice
I appreciate that!
Excellent and inspiring videos! Thanks Ron! I fished those marshes with my grandfather back in the early 70's and have some great memories. I'm moving back to the area soon and finding myself a kayak fishing addict too. Now I only need a kayak! Thanks again!
Thanks Jeff. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos and they brought back good memories! Hope you decide to get a kayak soon!
Just come across your video. Frkn awesome. I used to live in Wilbur by the sea on a1a. Never got to fish the backwaters. But I did surf fish every day. Sure do miss living there. Keep the awesome videos coming. Thanks. Be safe out there.
Thanks for your kind words Kevin...and for subscribing! Glad you got a taste of home.
I always catch great fish in Port Orange🤙🏾 great catch
So you're the one that caught all of the redfish! Lol. Thanks!
That was a nice trip, congrats! I subbed!
Yep, I enjoyed that trip. Thanks for subbing!
Just found your channel.
Fun to recognize the basic areas your in. Hope to see you on the water next time down. Tight Lines
Awesome. Nice to meet you. Thanks for watching and for subscribing!
Slimy ladyfish😹
Lol. You're right, but I'm glad the two I caught weren't slimy!
As others have said, the mystery fish you were unsure of is a ladyfish.Ladyfish really don't have any teeth, so no worries there. I enjoy watching your videos because I fished many of the waters you fish now in my early years. When fishing three bridges/ mouth of Spruce Creek in the winter, head up to the railroad trestle. Fish the shoreline leading to it. Also, if you can dodge oyster bars and get underneath, try to fish the shorelines on the inside of the trestle for reds, snook and flounder.
I'll give you my advice, although you didn't ask for it. Try to find a "sweet spot" time length of your videos at about 12 to 15 minutes. 1) UA-cam and UA-cam viewers like that length. I think it will help you attract more viewers. 2) Try to cut down on the length of time you handle your fish out of the water. You really don't have to measure most fish, unless you're going to keep it. If you're going to keep a fish, handle the fish out of the water as long as you want! Seatrout are delicate, they don't do well out of the water. Ladyfish are delicate, don't do well out of the water. Flounder do ok out of the water. Redfish are the most hearty and do pretty darn well out of the water. Based on the time you've kept some of these fish out of the water, you likely have some post release mortality. I know it's unintentional, just passing along my info and experiences over the years.
Otherwise, I really like your videos. Good quality video clips and commentary, mixed with relaxing music and good transitions. If you have any interest, I can give you 3 to 5 kayak launch locations you might interested in exploring for new fishing spots. I'll give you the launch points, but you gotta figure out the fisheries! They're all central east coast of Florida. Let me know! Good luck in your future adventures.
Thanks James. I appreciate the feedback. It is a challenge to try to find the sweet spot on the video length! I've been experimenting and you caught me :). I've done a few 13's and this one I'm trying a 24. I notice most are at the 10-13 mark but some UA-camr's are trying longer formats. We're all trying to get subscribers and hours viewed and you're right, there's a sweet spot that's based on a lot of different elements. I'm wondering if anyone will notice another difference in this video too...we'll see. That said, yes, I'll take whatever launch spots and tips you have. You can shoot an email off of the about page or DM on instagram. Oh, and I'll watch the out of water time on the releases too! Thanks again.
That was a very good ladyfish
Good to know. I don't catch many of them at all. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing Justin.
lady fish for sure!
Yep. Thanks Don.
Looks like you had a really fun day Ron! Those first couple were definitely Ladyfish. The last “bigun” was a nice bluefish.
Thanks, I did! When I caught the last one I knew it was a Blue fish and I knew the other few weren't at that point...doh!
Those are lady fish, I fish there a lot and catch them all the time. Great video!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Lady fish ✅💯
Yep!
Was a Lady fish. Redfish love it. Chunkbait.
Doh! I still can't believe I couldn't remember that fish. Thanks for watching!
You’re quite the ladies man!
LOL didn’t think about that
You rock man, I just bought a kayak 2 weeks ago looking for some people to fish with outta yaks.
Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying my channel. Congrats on getting your yak! I think once this pandemic is over things will get back to normal.
That’s is a beast lady fish. I too believed it to be nothing more than a nasty trash fish until my Vietnamese buddy made a fish patty out of a couple of them! Agreeing to use fishrules app. Best out there
Ah, fish in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing! Thanks for watching, subscribing, and for the app tip!
The first few big eyed fish were Ladyfish. No real teeth, but sandpaper like and can still tear up a lure. Last one was a Bluefish. He’s got some teeth! If you ever get “bit off” (hit like a ton of bricks and only line left, chances are, you’ve been “bluefished”:). Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing Mike. I love that term, "you've been bluefished"! I'll have to use that.
Blues are delicious. They are a staple here. Some don't like them because they are strong in flavor but a "mess of Blue flats" are on point.
Thanks Josh! Ok, you've talked me into it, the next slot one I catch I'll taste. Do you have a favorite way to make them?
Kayak Fishing Addict the same way you do the Reds... cleaned and fried. Be careful... you might like 'em...lol
@@joshp1486 I'll have to try them then. Thanks.
Spruce Creek is loaded with ladyfish. I grew up fishing there going back to the late 1960's/early 1970's. If you want to fish a nice area, go back to the Cracker Creek area when the temps drop.
Awesome, thanks for the tip! I'll try that area next time I'm down that way. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing!
Nice ladyfish and bluefish may not be for everyone but they are not bad eats if done right
Never tried either of them but I'll take your word for it!
Ladyfish, Its a very good fishing area. You have Spruce Creek, Strickland, Turnbull Bay and you can even get to Rose Bay from there to.
Agreed. We've got some great fisheries around here!
I used to live near that area and learned to saltwater fish there with a canoe. It's a fantastic area
I totally agree.
Ladyfish 💯
Yes indeed...lol...it was a learning experience.
That's Poor Man's Tarpon AKA Ladyfish. Fun to catch. They jump like Tarpon.
Indeed they do.
Lady fish bro and stay out my spot!
LOL ... I‘ll have to take your ownership of that spot under consideration next time...maybe 🤔.
This is my area and I fished here once a few years ago. I think I need to revisit the area. There is a website that lists high and low tides for the Three Sisters Bridges because the tide flows pretty strong under the bridges at time and would be bacrd to get back to the boat ramp. Tha's called Strickland Bay west of the bridges and Spruce Creek flows into it. Supposed to be a good snook area but I have never caught one there "yet"
Awesome information. Thanks.
Love your videos man! When you mention the Ormond Beach Marsh, are you referring to the Tomoka River?
Thanks! I’m discussing the marsh just southwest of Highbridge in Ormond Beach.
Great video shooting. How do you prepare your shots while driving?
🙌🙌🙌
They're all shot with a selfie stick mounted GoPro Hero7. Thanks for watching and for your kind words.
Ladyfish was the first one. Got into a school of em yesterday at Bings Landing. Nothing but ladies. Hooked like 5
Yep, that's what it was...a poor man's tarpon. Tight lines.
I live 5 mins from there. Anytime you want to fish. Im just learning the area.
Nice. I don't get down there very much but will do!
I really enjoy your channel; especially that you neither speak Christianity nor use profanity. That's one of the main reasons that I subscribed to your channel.
I'm glad you enjoy my videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.
thats my fav ramp, all i fish in saltwater, all my salt fish on my page are from here
good to know
What type of landing net do you use KFA?
ForEverlast G2. Check Academy right now as I think they've got them for $19.99! They're normally $30.
Just moved down here from oregon and would like to go fishing with you sometime
Hi Spencer. Thanks. Our paths will likely cross, I see a lot of folks out in the marsh. Perhaps after the pandemic passes...
What time of day did you go? Is it best to go out as high tide is turning to low tide?
I'm not sure, but I tend to catch more fish between 2 hours before high tide to 2 hours after high tide. The goal is you want fast moving water if possible, so the more the tide is moving and the tidal coefficient is high the better.
I know im late but its a ladyfish not a bluefish...bluefish are a little more broad with yellow eyes...they are in the tarpon family...nice outing!!
You're right and no worries...thanks for watching and for the comment.
Keep the lady fish. Use as cut bait for Monsters
Good tip for those who use live bait.
I’m new to fishing. I kayak in the Halifax next to the marina in south Daytona.
What Reel size and line strength should I use?
Great questions, a lot of it is personal preference. I use 20 lbs test braid and 20 lbs leader but I do vary it up. As for reels it depends on if you're using bait casters or not. Maybe the best way is to give you the following link to all of my gear - kayakfishingaddict.com/product-category/fishing/
Thank you for your help.
I see that you use bait casters. Is that the best way to go?
Spin is my other option from what I can see.
@@rogerwelsh2335 It all depends. Baitcasters are a difficult learning curve for some. That said, they are more precise when you have them down and you can cast with one hand.
Hey man you really think Ormond beach is the best fishing marsh in North East Florida? Lol I love my St. Augustine marshes!
Of course :). But I do venture out ... in fact I did one in St . Augustine just a few weeks ago - ua-cam.com/video/bP695557DwA/v-deo.html and I'll keep exploring the marshes there too...who knows, they may become my favorite eventually.
Actually the Jax area from Beach Blvd to Nassau Sounds is the best area north of Mosquito Lagoon hands down
@@fishingsodium904 Thanks for the tip. I may have to try that area out soon and see how it competes. Where do you launch? And what portion of that area is the best....north of the 105 or between 105 and 90?
@@KayakFishingAddict beach Blvd boat ramp is a good launch and head south if you Google earth the area the southeast bank is a great spot all the way from the ramp to the JTB bridge. North Jax go to Simpson creek it is a great area as well lots of guys launch at oak harbor ramp in Mayport google earth the areas you will see lots of great spots to fish . Get a campsite in the area and film a new adventure hot me up if you head this way I can text you some honey holes that hold fish
@@fishingsodium904 Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
You passed by my house. I live off of US-1, we should go fish sometime
Awesome. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
There's a spot I go to over there where the snook always bite
Is it towards the back of rose bay
Ladyfish get a bad rap, they put up a hell of a fight ESPECIALLY when nothing else is biting
It was certainly fun catching the two I did!
is ormond beach marsh the "tomoka basin" ?
That's certainly part of it....the southern part. It extends up to north of High Bridge as well. Here's the kayak launch that's just west of High Bridge. bit.ly/2t3sJMo
How do you like fishing in South Daytona
I love fishing wherever there's fish! It's a great place. I'll have to get back down there soon.
There's a ton of lady fish in that area. Hate catching them because they're slimy as all hell.
Now you tell me... LOL. Thanks @ZawShwa for watching and subscribing!
Pretty good-sized ladyfish good bait though. Cut him up get a nice fish..
I hear they're good for cut bait. I fish artificial bait though so they went back. I'll have to get a few circle hooks and see next time. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing Charles!
Hey just to give you some pointers FishBrain and Fish Rules App will help you ID all fish. Free app so just show you pic on the app and it auto ID most fish. Nice video buddy
I'll check those out, thanks!
Dont know if you remember me but we met two weeks ago, at your normal spot. We were fishing a tournament and my partner drove broke before you coukd show me the south spot. The last fish was a Blue Fish. Poor man Tarpons are the Ladyfish for sure
I do remember you...can't recall if you're Vince or Steve, but both of you are in my next video (Tuesday's at 8:00am). How'd you do at the KBF tourney? Did you run into the Old Lady Angler (OLA)?
Vince bro , not so good in tournament
Are you on the HALIFAX RIVER???
Yes, that is one marsh off of the Halifax River
That’s big ladyfish bro ! No blue
Yes it is.
Your bluefish was actually a ladyfish. But bluefish are not trash fish, they are gamefish (as are ladyfish).
True. Thanks for your thoughts!
ladyfish, also called a poor man's tarpon.....
That's what I call them now too!
Lady fish aka "poor man's tarpon"
Indeed! Thanks for commenting.
@@KayakFishingAddict yep, I'm just south of you and kayak fish the main st bridge area a lot. Catching a ton of 🐑 head right now as I countdown the days till spring.. maybe I'll see you out there 1 day...
@@theloosemoose8200 I'm going to have to get down there, I haven't fished that area. You catching sheepshead at that bridge? Where's the launch point?
@@KayakFishingAddict that's my main area, launch ramps all over the river but I use orange st bridge ramp (puts you in a great location to ride the rising tide north and hit all the bridges along the way) or on an out-going tide I launch at the new ramp on LPGA BLVD and ride the tide south until I get to orange st...there are dozens of amazing fishing spot between the 2 launches.. I get 40in snook in summer, 45in reds, gator trout,,,, Right now it's massive black drum and 🐑.... Let me know if you want someone to show you the spots, I'm always on the yak fishing
@@theloosemoose8200 Thanks for the offer and the info. I've never launched at either of those ramps...didn't even know they were there. I'll have to try it out sometime. Looks like there are four bridges to hit, as well as some sandbars, and other structure between the two ramps.
Ladyfish
Yep! Thanks.
Ladyfish.
Yep
Can we go
Anyone can go fishing but you need a license to do so.
A BLUE FISH IS NOT APART OF A INSHORE SLAM! - REDFISH, TROUT, AND FLOUNDER IS THE INSHORE SLAM!
Duly noted :).
@@KayakFishingAddict that wasnt directed directly to you lol it was more of reading all the comments. but keep up the great videos man. i grew up on turnball bay that those back waters run into.
@@davidbarborka7349 No worries. Thanks for the comment and will do!
