My brother was a college student in Daytona around 1970. He wasn't afraid of anything; I visited him in a tiny, dark apartment on a place called "Booze Alley," where you could watch stoners dance in the parking lot below, by the light from their vans' taillights.... If you told me there was a serial killer working the neighborhood, I'd have believed you.

Why would he be afraid? The majority of victims of serial killers are women.

@@helmutstransky3761 Properly investigate what? What are they going to do? At that point, when he bought the same caliber gun, he pretty much had to confess because they have no power to do anything else. They can't forcibly take DNA from him. And it's not like he's the only one who bought the same caliber gun in those 10 years, so trying to discreetly get DNA from thousands of people who are potential suspects because they purchased the same caliber is not reasonable.

That officer had a damn good reason to call said dude a scumbag and hurl insults. What they don't tell you is Daytona city council was being annoying bc they were trying to repress the media about warning the community because they were worried about the beach area's income. Many people don't realize how much $$$ comes in from the beach businesses alone & the announcement of a serial killer would have put a massive impact fiscally on those businesses. I remember bc I was in Jacksonville just north of Daytona and heard all about it from a friend of the family.

The people running Daytona beach have let criminals take over the beach. It use to be absolutely beautiful and pretty safe even at night. Now you don't want to go to Daytona at night. Not only that but the city made taxes their priority and allowed condos to be built along the entire coast line. These Condos section of the beach and claim it as their property making private land .you can't drive down the beach like you yse too.

Actually black serial killers are not rare. They are pretty much proportional to the population distribution. Strangely enough, DEI doesn’t apply to things like serial killing.
Now, if you go solely by the FBI definition of 3 or more victims, the number of black “serial killers” explodes, but that’s because that definition would force them to include mass/gangland/drive by shootings.

This is the first time I'm hearing that they actually caught, tried and convicted the killer. Not sure why this wasn't bigger news nationally. They do so much, every day, to Amel sure we are all safe and that the laws are being abided by and deserve our respect so much and the media allows things like, defund the police" to even be spoken ! I cannot imagine having to do their job, day in, day out, for very little pay. These are sons, daughters, siblings, parents, friends of people just like anyone else. It is definitely a calling, like teaching, preaching, the service. It's surely not for the pay, or accolades. They have a job to do, that is important and needed. LaQuetta’s mom wants to know WHY, but I don’t think there is a WHY beyond the fact that Robert Hayes is a really bad person, a selfish thief of others’ lives.
He wanted free sex and he killed these women for the same reason he claimed the gun he supposedly gave to his mother was stolen: he didn’t want to pay for his crimes either.

Place your faith in Jesus Christ today and receive eternal life. Essentially, there are only two places we go after death the smoking section (hell) and the non smoking section (heaven). Wow, I can surely relate. I'm fortunate that I grew up in a very small town, far from places that young people wanted to go. Plus, we couldn't afford for me to travel for things like spring break. I surely managed to get myself into some very risky situations though, & it's only by the grace of God that I didn't end up in a ditch somewhere. I drove my poor mom crazy. It's no wonder that she needed to take "nerve pills" as she called them. I'm glad she lived long enough to see me grow up & get my shit together. Thankfully, she only ever knew about a small percentage of my stupid antics. I had two older brothers, & my mom always said that raising me was harder than raising both of them. She was a wonderful woman, & I'm blessed to have had her for a mother. May she rest in peace with the knowledge that I'm doing well.

Sex workers are so vulnerable all while working a job they never wanted. It’s no wonder they’re the “go to” for killers, you don’t even have to “hunt”, victims literally get in the car. I would hate for my mom to learn I was found like Ms. Gunther was found, that’s more horrifying than death for me. Best wishes to the families.

Unfortunately, these sick people are everywhere, and way more than we even know about, just be vigilant, and don’t go out alone at night if you can help it. I hate guns, but I’m seriously thinking about taking a gun safety class and buying one for protection.

Barbara Rurak, Laquetta Gunther's Mom, seems like a strong, determined woman who loved her daughter very much. I'm sorry she had to shoulder the burden of this awful tragedy. None of the victims or their loved ones deserved the horror this man inflicted. Awful.

I appreciate this detective for the way he speaks about the victims, uses the proper term of sex worker when appropriate and speaks in a respectful manner about them either way. Because, like with any job, we are all human beings above any job description and we are deserve the same care & respect.

If you think that the term prostitute is derogatory, you're prejudiced.
      Prostitute is a respectful word.

The word in the dictionary is prostitute , whore which is in the bible is derogatory . It's not a job , just as thieving or drug dealing are not jobs . All these are usually harshly addicted to hard drugs . They are expensive and most need criminal activities to support habits of hundreds a day .
