Great video. I would add a First Aid Kit, I definitely needed it when I accidentally got a lure stuck in my hand. Next dry bags for an extra change of clothes, rain gear, etc. A kayak leash which you can use to tie your kayak to a bush when "nature"calls. Finally, a kayak knife, which you mentioned in another video.
@@rosscampbell4884 I only use a paddle leash when fishing rivers. My paddles float, so I can easily retrieve them on the lake. But yes, I would turn around and go home to get the paddle leash if I forgot it when river fishing. I can't count the times my paddles and I were separated on a flowing river.
Look up 'portable multifunctional Unisex urinals for long distance driving' for those 'nature calls' trips, and you won't have to go ashore, and can fish uninterrupted. They're cheap and can take up to 750 ml, when fully extracted. You won't even have to get off your butt.

I made rod floats out of 1/2" x 6' pipe insulation ($3, enough for 4-5 rods) & velcro cable ties I already had. I went from the top of the reel seat to the first guide & tapered it off. Can confirm they work because I "tested" one this past weekend :D

Great video! 15:30 A one or two foot length of heavy chain is a superior anchor. It's flexible, doesn't hurt as much if you drop it on yourself, stores and stashes easily and is really cheap!
With a chain, you can also pull it up short so that just the end is on bottom, and use it as a drag chain, plus it's way easier to pull up that pretty much any anchor...I leave mine rigged through the anchor trolley, so when I'm ready to move on downstream, I just pull it up, and it's already in place when I'm ready to drop it again, without hanging up on anything or knocking on the kayak. Zip-tie it into a piece of bicycle innertube and small sticks or limbs, etc. can't foul you up by sticking through the chain links. Stay Safe!
Number 26, a Swiss Army Knife! The Climber is one of the best to get. The corkscrew and hook comes in handy to pick out backlashes and wind knots in line. I use the scissors to cut line, and the blade occasionally comes out to cut a branch to retrieve my stuck bait from a low hanging tree limb. Honestly there’s too many uses to list them all.
That magnetic tray idea is fantastic ! Harbor Freight is a good cheap source for them. I would also recommend having a fixed blade knife somewhere on your body. Even with a PFD on its not unusual to get tangled up in weeds or heavy fishing line if you go overboard or tip.
Thanks for sharing this information. I noticed that you have a pair of long pants that you wear at times. Do you have any suggestions on what works best for you?
Thanks for watching Philip! I use Under Amour compression pants under my shorts in the summer. Keeps you cool and covered from the sun. Here’s the link I used to buy mine: amzn.to/43cEGvH
I got lucky and got a purple off marketplace for free! OMG! The best. Tall people may not like it as much because it's about 3-4" tall. I'm only 5'1" and love the extra height. Brings my back up to the seat back in the right spot.❤
I use a fishing* magnet for my anchor, its heavy and works great as an anchor,. Once and a great while I pull up something interesting. I also have one of those claw like anchors to attach to brush for river/creak fishing. Dedicated knife for slitting gills permanently tethered with 520 cord. Note, if you get a net or a paddles with a ruler printed on it, you dont have to lug around ketch board. I also bring a frozen plastic bottle of water or two in those thick grocery plastic bags.. it dubs as a refreshment, and a cooler for the trip home. Also if you rock a sitin like I do, you want a sponge, and a modded milk jug for bailing water and wizzin in. Snacks!
Great list. I have the NRS boots and Chinook vest and money well spent. My favorite accessory is the yak attack anchor trolley. I don’t have a power pole or spot lock so the anchor trolley is a must have for fishing.
In the ad for the kayak cart you have, they strap two of them to a Kayak and dude RIDES HIS KAYAK DOWN A HILL INTO THE WATER. That ad alone made me wanna buy the damn cart!
Great list. When it comes to the net I'd say you specifically want a RUBBER net. Less hook snags and safer for the fish. I definitely need to get the phone tether. Rod floats??? Why would I need those? 😂🤦♂ Another sold video, Jay. All you make are bangers. You are my hero.
I make my own pole floats. Just cut section of pool noodles. A strip of velcro round. A little bulkier but I don't feel bad putting the hook in the noodle.
C tug is a great kart. Very easy to put on and remove from your boat while its still in the water. roll into the water, roll out of the water. A lot of cheap karts are almost impossible to put on in the water especially in a current .
Solid list… The one thing I’ve been holding off on is the depth / fish finder. I know it’s going to be a bit of research on my end. Now that I bought the Old town PDL I feel like it’s going to be a big project to install one. We will see 🤙🏻
Thanks for watching my friend! A fish finder opens so many opportunities. I was intimated at first with the logistics of running the wires, getting the right finder, the right mounts, etc but once I dove in, it really wasn’t so bad. I posted a video of my finder set up last year, hopefully it’s helpful 🤙🏽
Also, get one with Down Imaging. Hummingbird sells the Piranha max 4 for $170 and it has down imaging, WAY better than regular SONAR but not super expensive.
@casey360360 still a good option? I'm just getting into Kayak fishing and haven't looked into sonar myself. But I Googled the piranha max 4 you brought up, and it's only $100 now. If it's still a good option I'll pick it up and start learning lol
I normally don't comment on youtube videos, but man, your seperation and organization of the videos plus the amazon links - absolute money. Appreciate the work you put into all of it!
Good list. I have trouble cutting braid with pliers, so I added a retractable set of braid scissors from Rapala. Also, I fish in Florida, so I always have bug repellant and sun screen in my kit.
Great ideas, you can minimize a bit with a net that incorporates scales. Two useful items in one. To be fair I only fish for trout from my kayak down here in New Zealand.
Real helpful video. I live in San Diego I plan to buy an Old Town 106 with a Minkota powered unit any chance you know what kayak dealer in southern California that I can ship my kayak to me or have Amazon ship it to me. Great list. I use some of these or a version of it. You can always add more. Sadly, about 2 weeks after watching this video, I was out on my kayak fishing and lost a rod while unhooking a fish. Wish I had those rod floats. I now have them on my rods. I made my own for under $6.
Expect to spend about 1k. Hit up marketplace and maybe find a deal. Chances are you'll need a 12ft so expect them to be heavy and bulky without dropping some coin. I have a big fish 105 and is very stable and relatively light, its just hard/slow to paddle
Thanks Peter! It does rust a little and that’s just with freshwater so I’d imagine it would rust with saltwater. But you could always add a layer of plastidip or rubber paint to keep it protected.
Great list. There are a few more items that work for me. A small dry bag I can put my keys, wallet and phone in. A first aid kit. In cold weather, an emergency clothes kit in case of a capsize. A sponge for sopping up water and mud from the floor of the kayak. A pair of scissors. I like the Fiskars kids scissors for about $2. A stand assist strap. Thanks for watching! Trolling motors can be put on almost any kayak. I couldn’t tell you the exact mount to use since each kayak is different. All depends on where you want to mount it (bow, stern or side). I’d recommend you get out a Facebook group such as DIY Kayak Rigging, Kayak Fishing Dads or Kayak Bass Fishing. Lots of good info on there.
i love the video and it’s very helpful, however, if you have boots on and flip off your kayak or fall in water will get sucked into your boots making it very hard to stay afloat and making them almost impossible to take them off.
These boots are tight against the calf and they don’t weigh you down if wet. The water inside the boots weighs the same as the water outside the boots so it won’t pull you under.
Floating or thethered waterproof box/bag for keys, wallet, fishing license, etc...first aid kit, polarized sunglasses, sun screen, sponge, whistle. A whistle might be required by law in your area, inquire.
If you're looking at the purple cushions.... you really don't need the big one. The double would be great and even the single one would be fine. I think the huge one for gamers and truckers is a bit over kill.and it is kind heavy and bulky. The double would fit nicely.
That extra butt cushion is the real deal. I use a cheap square throwable PFD from Wally World on my seat. Extra floatation ☑️ Extra butt support ☑️ Sit 2-3” higher ☑️
One of the most common mistakes with decking out a Kayak is putting too much stuff in the thing, making the Kayak very heavy. Keep it simple and keep it minimal.

Dry suit for cold water
From your experiences, what is the fastest pedal drive kayak on the market? Specifically for bigger open waters?
It's less about the pedal drive and more about the hull design IMO. However, lots of folks love the Hobie, Native and Old Town drives for their speed.
@@BeardedDadFishing That makes sense, so which of those brands has a boat with a hull design that does the best in open waters?

Please buy a pfd that's comfortable and use it you can get a pretty decent one for $60 that are made for kayak fishing .
Agreed! Thanks for watching Tom!
One of the most common mistakes with decking out a Kayak is putting too much stuff in the thing, making the Kayak very heavy. Keep it simple and keep it minimal.
100% agreed. Not everything is for everyone.
@@BeardedDadFishing Im setting mine up and fine tuning as I go. These vids where they have 6 rod holders and 10 tackle boxes crack me up.
