Hi Ron, I recently found your page and love it. I live in Daytona and recently purchased a used kayak and I’m getting it fishing ready and plan on seeing you up by high bridge soon. Thanks all the great information and keep it up! FISH ON!!!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad to see you caught some nice fish out there that day, I met you as you came around the corner and startled me, I was concentrating on unhooking that jack carvalle on my way out. nice videos and very informative. I was out there this morning caught a nice 17" Flounder. Tight lines and see you out there again someday
Hi Doug....I remember, you were near the launch. Sorry I startled you. Nice flatty! I'm sure our paths will cross again. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Another great video Ron. I have learned so much from watching your videos. I can't wait till I return in mid December and put some of it to use. In the meantime I will continue to chase walleyes in northern Minnesota and you keep putting up the videos to educate me on Florida fishing.
Enjoyed getting to talk to you the other day at the launch. My son and I went back out there today and put a 21 inch red in the boat... Caught it on the DOA Figi Chic..
I enjoyed our conversation too. I especially liked the fact you fish with your son ....oh, and that he gets your hand-me-down kayaks :). Nice catch on my go to bait...I'm glad it works for you!
Awesome job on the information you give I am planning a trip to mobile bay (alabama) In the spring so maybe I can find out if these baits will work there .
Thanks. Try them out and you'll likely be very pleased. If they don't, please let us know the (1) type of bait fish in your marsh, and (2) the typical color of the water in your marsh. With that you'll usually get a good tip or two on this channel for baits.
Great video and information Ron, very professional 👍🏼. I’ll be fishing fir trout in the Palm Coast area in March. Would Bings landing be good this time of year?
Ron I have been watching for a month or so and have recently subscribed to your channel. I think your videos are great and I am definitely addicted. I live in the North PSL area. Maybe we could hook up one day and fish. Until then, keep the video's coming. Thank you.
Thanks for subscribing David. Welcome aboard! North PSL ... beautiful area down there. Who knows, after this pandemic thing passes I might travel down that way!
Just came across your channel. I spend every Spring Break at my mothers place just up the street from Bings Landing so your videos are perfect for me. Can you buy the H&H Salty Curl tail's and the D.O.A's local or do you order them online? I would like to pick some up when I come down this spring.
Hi Brian. Welcome to the channel and thanks for your comment. The DOAs are available via my Amazon shop ( gear.kayakfishingaddict.com ) or doalures.com but the only way I've found to get the genuine H&H is from their website hhlure.com which is unfortunate due to the shipping cost. There are other providers on Amazon with that color pattern ("pumpkin") that likely work just as well.
Hi Tyler. Thank you. I certainly will take you up on that recommendation one day. I've always favored lures, and I've always been intrigued with the challenge of using lures to catch fish. Here's the thing I've got to get over....using live bait requires either a cast net or far more planning than I tend to do prior to going fishing. Usually I know that I'm going to go about an hour before I get out there...that said, I do own a cast net that I used to use to catch mullet to put in my crab traps. We also have a great bait shop somewhat close to the launch I tend to use (Salty Dawg Outfitters). So, I just need to do a little more planning I guess :).
Hey do you ever fish the Marchis around Sanchez. Love that area your at! Just so hard to get past all the oysters beds at the launch site sometimes (I’m in a canoe with trolling motor)I’m always trying to figure out exactly where you are on the flats in the background lol
Hi Jeremy. I haven't been in the marshes around Sanchez park yet.... honestly, too many gator reports for me in that area. If you launch at Highbridge and come down the inlet from the intercoastal, rather than use the kayak launch I launch from, you'll have less issues with oyster beds in your setup. I'm all over the marsh looking for the right conditions.... but it's good that you're finding locations based on the video footage :).
Good stuff, Ron. Couple questions: I'm thinking of putting a Garmin fish finder in my boat, but don't know that I'll use it all that much. Do you find it essential? Why? Secondly, is there anyway you could do a video on filleting fish? I see everything in fast forward, but was wondering if you could offer advice on cleaning reds and flounder.
Hi JD, thanks for the comment and questions. The Garmin is useful to me as a GPS device. I can trace my way back out of the marsh with it once I've turned several corners and I'm lost! I can use my phone for that too, but I like the security of having two devices that I can use. Also, I can create waypoints to mark structure and/or places I've caught fish before. That way I can return there and if the conditions are right I might be able to catch fish there again....mind you, it's not about locations it's about conditions, so I only use that to scout out if the conditions are good there again. As for filleting fish, I'll add that to the list...thanks! In the interim, some of my videos from months ago show me cleaning redfish at the end. I'm not sure I talk through the process though.
Love the videos and advise you provide. Did you change line color? That looks like yellow line now. If so, did it affect your results? I am just getting into Kayak Fishing and live right the road from you! I have taken your advice on many things you have done, thanks for that.
Hi Skip. Thanks for you kind words and for being a subscriber! You caught me on the line color. Honestly, I have a few different spools of braid and that just happened to be the one that I picked when I had to re-spool my rod. It hasn't affected my results, but remember why. The fish you catch are the ones that look at the bait. If that yellow line extended down to the bait then they wouldn't likely bite. I always have a 2-3' leader line of mono or flouro on the end of the braid. They can't see that very well so to them the bait looks like it's an independently swimming juicy meal!
Hi Justus. Thanks for your kind words. The time of day I try to fish varies both with my schedule and the tides. This video was shot in the afternoon/evening hours...the cloud cover was due to the storm. Take a look at this video for why I try to fish a few hours before and after high tide... 5 KAYAK FISHING TIPS to CATCH MORE FISH! - ua-cam.com/video/KPZeLR3qgwQ/v-deo.html
Kayak Fishing Addict thanks for the reply I used to fish high bridge as a kid with my dad and alway caught lots of red drum with mullet but these days We can’t seem to get back into them , trying to expand by using artificial, having no such luck yet but definitely going to keep trying
Depending upon the grub tail up or down, it will affect the depth that your lure swims. Tail down and you will go deeper. By the way, the grunting means they are a male. Tight lines!
Great question. When the tide is high in this marsh, on a normal day, you have decent visibility, especially in the parts of the marsh with sandy bottoms. I can see my bait if I stand up, maybe 20-30' away. Most of the time the water is what I'd call slightly tannic. I use that to describe the color, not necessarily the source of the brown tint. At low tide and in some parts of the marsh it's murky...it seems like the soft muddy bottom gets stirred up a bit as the tide sucks the water out of the marsh. I have sight fished it at times when the water is clear. If you saw my Mosquito Lagoon video...this marsh is never as clear as that water. I attribute it to that marsh being so close to the inlet, whereas this marsh is far away from an inlet.
Hello the color is so important? I have tried numerous colors but could not certify it is the color more than the spot selection...which tests have you done please? Which colors do not work well ?
Hi Lionel, thanks for your question. As for colors of bait, check out my 5 Kayak Fishing Tips video ( ua-cam.com/video/KPZeLR3qgwQ/v-deo.html&lc ). In tip #1 of that video, I discuss bait colors. Essentially, I highly suggest examining the type of bait fish in your marsh, and then buy something that looks exactly like that, color included. You can't go wrong that way. If you look at the DOA paddle tail in the Figi Chix color, you'll probably recognize that it has the color of a mullet in most marshes. That's one of the reasons it does extremely well.
I appreciate your sentiments! Now, if you can just tell a few thousand of your friends about the channel and share a link maybe I'll get more than 2K subscribers :).

Interesting information, thanks for sharing and watching! I think I'd rig it down all the time and switch the jighead for depth....simply to avoid the tail getting snagged on the hook which is annoying, especially on a slow retrieve since you don''t find out the bait presentation wasn't right only after you get it back to the boat!

It should be, however, pay attention to the tides. I like to fish 2 hours before to 2 hours after high tide.

You should do some videos with live bait. Caught a 33 inch snook in Strickland Bay (spruce creek).

Always!
I use this lure in red and white and is very effective in south Texas for Red fish and trouts .I really like the tail action.
Good to know! I'll have to change the lure color if I ever get down to south Texas!
Love your intro almost sound scripted. Great video as always. Finally you man grabing those fish.
Glad you liked it...and yes, I took your feedback :).
Hands-down this is the best fishing Channel on UA-cam he replies and he gives great tips and advice everyone please subscribe you won’t regret it
