Super cool video. If you get a gas powered chainsaw I still think you should keep the Ryobi. I think you're forgetting how loud gas saws are. When you're up in the mountains and want to cut up some deadfall for firewood, your choices are "vweeeeee" with the Ryobi or "AAAAHHHHH" with a Stihl. I'd keep the Ryobi around for stuff like that just to preserve the ambiance.
Hahaha yeah the Ryobi is definitely stealthy! I didn't really demonstrate in the video, but the Ryobi kept overheating on those really big logs, I'd get a couple seconds of cutting before needing to wait for a cooldown. It got pretty tedious, but yeah, it will do it if needed!
I did a very similar life in this very same region for several years before YT existed. It is idyllic, but there are things F.F. does not show you. No shower, unless you find one in town. Trapped inside your tent or vehicle for days by cold rain, it rained here all May and most of June. Lots of mosquitoes and blackflies in July and August. Bear and cougar danger is not extreme, but not zero either, I am surprised a bear has not checked out his van at 2 AM if it smells food in there, if it is a big one, watch out, it may rip out a side window before you know what is happening. Small animals can chew on engine hoses, mice are everywhere and may carry disease. Branches in your face every step when hiking off-trail, and struggling and clawing every step of the way for hours. You could be blocked and trapped on a remote backroad by a wash-out, mudslide, forest fire, 2 flat tires, or a big fallen tree. One slip, one loose footing, one error when hiking off-trail down low, and you tumble for a few feet, up high, and you may be history. He has not sprained an ankle or twisted a knee or broken a leg yet 5 or 10 or 15 km from his vehicle, with no tent, no duvet, no pad, no cell service and no companion to go for help, although a satellite phone will connect you to rescue services, if they can find you in time .............
Have you considered approaching the forestry service and asking them to outfit you with the equipment you need for trail service? Like a volunteer thing like you're doing now but using their equipment?

Another great vid. The footage of that cascade above the alpine lake was breath taking. And as someone who's done a bunch of trail maintenance, I gotta say Canadian Forestry should be sending you a paycheck. Was Rocko driving in the last scene??!
Hi Foresty, I volunteer with BC Parks clearing a few trails, either hiking or bikepacking in, 10 years now. I did a bunch of research when I replaced my original saw, I have it in a spreadsheet I can share if you like. My original saw was a MS170, bigger saw is a MS250, best combination of power & weight. I still have my smaller saw to use for smaller tree brushing. I use the synthetic fuel, exhaust doesn't smell & doesn't gum up the fuel system when not used for a while. You are correct, most clearing is done by volunteers unless it has a paid trail crew like the National Parks, the high traffic BC provincial park, or close to a tourist destination like Rossland. Let me know if you want to talk trail clearing gear, I can offer my experience.
I just wanted to put out there that I always loved the fact that you use an electric chainsaw, because it doesn't make such a terrible noise and doesn't disturb the wildllife and general environment around you too much. Quiet is such a precious thing!!

I have the same saw. It's surprisingly good for small jobs. What he was doing more then I would have thought.
Coming from Steve Wallis channel, I saw you and Steve's video you too done awhile ago and you too are the kind of youtubers I enjoy to watch along with Mav he's another legend
Thanks a million for the beautiful footage of our gorgeous western outdoors.
Love watching your hikes...hope you always have bear spray....you have a little girl to look after..😊
My Dad got a Stihl gas chainsaw with the assist start(I forgot what it's called.) He says it'll tend to crank itself. He has chainsawed his whole life for firewood. He loves his Stihl chainsaw. He doesn't let anyone else use it. He's a retired mechanical engineer and knows engines & whatnot.
Ty for everything U & Rocko do, when Rocko was sliding down the snowy hill I thought of U when U slide down

Another great vid. The footage of that cascade above the alpine lake was breath taking. And as someone who's done a bunch of trail maintenance, I gotta say Canadian Forestry should be sending you a paycheck. Was Rocko driving in the last scene??!
Foresty Forest is the GOAT!
Using the van to move that tree with the fulcrum was genius. Forestry Forest the inventor.
So much beauty! Canada is amazing. So funny Rocko sliding down the snow, she is adorable.
You're a good man Foresty, and a great Stewart of the land. Your family should be really proud of you.

Nice note!!!
You did show us something awesome, you clearing the trails and that sweet girl of yours. Your a good soul, thank you for spreading kindness. 💙
There was no shortage of awesome in this video.
The scenery in this video ... epic
The Energizer Puppy. Good job on the trails.
