    I bought my Tesla S in 2015 as a 75th Birthday present to myself. I think I used Charge Point once or twice that year and never since. I have free Supercharging for life, so no need to use another EV Charger. But we're staying at a hotel in Carmel by the Sea, and they only have Charge Point. Couldn't figure out how to use it. Went back to hotel room, watched this UA-cam video, and viola. Charging now. Thank you!!

    At my job we have 4 of these ChargePoint and each has 2 ports per. Nobody uses them- in fact in the last 3 years I think 2 people have used it and it’s FREE. I work 15 walking to work and planning to get a Tesla M3 and charge for free

    Thanks for the vid! Very well done! Living in Boise, I have 3 routes I can take to Las Vegas (I15 thru Salt Lake, US93 thru Ely/Lund, and US95 thru Winnemucca). CCS/J1772 charging lets me use the shorter US93 route as I can charge in Ely and Alamo NV.

    Good vid. There are similar chargepoint stations in a couple of the spots in my parking garage at work. Works out perfectly for me, as I have about a 72 mile commute and at interstate speeds I use about 50% of the battery on the trip. After about 3.5-3.75 hours I've gotten back everything I used on the trip and it only costs $1/hr, so about $3.75 typically. As long as I get out there for lunch to move the car, otherwise after the 4 hour mark the price goes up to $3.50/hr. The only weird thing is that after I authorize to get started, the station just clicks for a good minute or so before finally unlocking the nozzle.

    I have a Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and a level 2 J1772 at my house... going to be adding a Tesla soon, thinking with this adapter I don't necessarily need a new charging unit (but will probably still add the Tesla mobile charger for good measure.) Looks like there's no real downside, apart from being a tad slower. Great video!

      Thanks for watching and kind words. Yes this adapter will work fine with your current L2 J1772 at your house. On the flip side, there is an adapter made by Lectron that turns the Tesla connector into a J1772 if needed.

    Great video. We are flying to south Florida in a couple weeks and I just rented my first Tesla model 3 from Hertz. I’m a Chevy bolt owner, so I know the j1772 system. I’m interested to know if the rental car still has the adapter. Again, great job.

      Hey a fellow Bolt owner, we’ve owned 2. Yes our Hertz rental came with a J1772 adapter, but honestly you’ll only use it at hotels. Supercharging is everywhere and the NAV tells you exactly when and where, just put in your destination. Thanks for watching!

    What’s to keep someone from taking out your charger while you are in Starbucks and stealing your adapter. Will the cord only come out if the car senses you (with the key aka phone)

  • @marks7445
    @marks7445 Рік тому

    From your display, charge rate was 30 amps but also limited to 30 amps (30/30). Was that limit set by the vehicle or the charger? I know my level 2 charger at home will do 48 amps but I limit to 32 because the cable runs a little warm at max.

    • @marks7445
      @marks7445 Рік тому

      One other question. Is it even possible to leave the adapter on and still properly return the cable to the charger?

    • @TeslaTipsTrips
      @TeslaTipsTrips  Рік тому

      The car and charger decide the rate at the handshake communication. The user would have to reduce it afterwards. Thanks for watching.

    • @TeslaTipsTrips
      @TeslaTipsTrips  Рік тому

      In the case of Charge Point, no. Others, yes, so it’s just a good thing to remember.

    • @Getitstraightyo

      "cable runs a little warm" lol antiscience. It's fine to run it at 48A.

    • @marks7445
      @marks7445 Рік тому

      @@Getitstraightyo and I always thought that power lost to heat in a cable run is "exactly" science. Just because the Tesla might be good with 48A, doesn't mean everything else is.

    • @TeslaTipsTrips
      @TeslaTipsTrips  27 днів тому +1

      That’s about half speed. If it’s the mobile connector then the adapter is loose (I have a video on that) if it’s all L2, then the small adapter might be going bad. Should be getting 6-7kw
