When you graduate from college, I am sure your parents would look at all the furniture you left behind and say, "That's my boy!" If you were to get an apartment, or a house, would there be a playlist of you're making a workshop, and furniture for it? Until then, thumbs up.
wow!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫂
hope you read this...
..you need to learn how to hold an LP, please, the way you did made me shiver a bit......
basically you let the record slide in to the palm of your hand out of the sleve, then support it with your middle finger(s), after you got rid of the sleve, you can sue your other hand to support it oposit of the hand you 're already using to place the LP on the player.
aaaaand vice versa on takking the record from the player and into the sleve :)
What are you studying in college?
aaaaaaaawesoooome boy !!!!!!
The project, the story, the editing, the cinematography... Wow Miles. Just wow!
Thanks man! again big congrats on hitting 100k.
WHAT JESPER SAID! You'll be at 100k in no time too miles!
Fully agree! So good!
Right?
I was thinking the same thing. Just wow
From an ex wood machinist and carpenter, that is a beautiful and well crafted piece of furniture young man. Excellent work!
as an average youtube watcher I fully agree
Man I’m 31 years old and I’m not ashamed to say your experience with regard to under estimating/over promising the amount of time it took to finish the build was comforting to see. There’ve been so many projects that I’ve unnecessarily beat myself up over not finishing when I thought I “should have.” So much to learn in the way of granting yourself the grace which you so often give to others.
I just discovered your channel. Saw this one come up a few times and figured hey why not see what he’s got to offer. Really neat seeing the success you’ve achieved at a relatively young age. Keep it up brother!
As a furniture design graduate, this inspires me to get back into making furniture again. Awesome video man!
Thanks dude! Thats the stuff i like to hear.
Building such a piece is a feat in and of itself. Add unfavorable working conditions, filming the perfect shot, crisp editing on top of balancing student obligations.....you should be damn proud of yourself! Beautiful performance all around.
It's insane the level of professionalism in your videos at such a young age. The little sketches with yourself, the explanations and problem solving stories you share with us, the craftsmanship, and the videography / editing. I am blown away that you are excelling in so many areas of your work! And so cool that Michael Alm helped you come up with a great solution for the hinges!
This is what quality parenting produces.
That festool saw tells me he has been exposed to building things for a long while.
Professionalism? Explain. Also, there’s no way this dude owns the festool equipment… daddies workshop, daddies tools. Quality parenting that produces adults that think they can make a “how to” video and show us how “genius” they are, when they’re in fact clueless? Real snowflake right there. Get real
@CatyBee so you can't be a good parent without money?
Not so sure… when you have big money flowing around, you BUY, you don't care to build anything, especially outdoor or in such a tiny workshop !@@CatyBee
This is the most beautiful record cabinet I've ever seen! Way to go Miles!
DUDEI! You legit did work on this. I thought it was going to be one of those "look at me build this in my driveway, with 10k worth of tools" but instead you really did all this with basic stuff on saw horses in the middle of winter. Legit kudos. and that wave front end is next level. Your excitement at every item that turned out how planned got me excited for it working out for you. I know all too well the frustration of putting time into wood just for it to need to be scrapped. 👍
his folks must be so proud of him, and i hope he's proud of himself too. college, making all this amazing custom furniture, the leaps and bounds he has improved in video shooting, compiling, and editing in what seems like a short time. just amazing. not even to mention how i get this vibe that he accomplishes his vision in the EXACT way he wants it when it comes to building. thats a serious skill.
Holy frickin cow dude, even in a world absolutely filled with talented people, you and your work manages to stand out. Incredible build dude
duuuude straight facts
I was a carpenter on construction sites for many years, all the other carpenters used to come to me to sharpen their chisels as none of them were any good at it. Learn to free hand it, having a bit of a bevel is not the end of the world and if you care it doesn't take long to learn how to get a flat edge on it. I did most of the work with my legs and used my upper body to brace it. Also don't overthink it, you can do the same with rocks down by a river, this is ancient and primitive stuff, and that's a good thing. Also sharpening a wood saw is way easier than you'd think
This is cool as hell Miles. Makes me realize I have no excuse for not pursuing the projects I want due to not having the perfect shop to do it in. Your commitment is highly admirable. The cabinet looks insanely good. Keep it up man. 🤙
Mate.. just wow. I followed the whole thing. It felt like I was there. Well done. It’s exquisite. Your taste, your craft, your imagination equals an amazing piece of furniture. And nice work on the editing as well. I did not scroll one time.
Thank you so much man!!
Miles, it feels so strange to me, to feel so proud of a young man who lives thousands of miles away and who I will never meet, but I do.
Not only do you have a creative mind, but you also have the ability to bring your creations to life. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Can I also send a big shout out to your parents for being there, because let's face it you couldn't have done this without them.
👍🏾🇬🇧💙
Thank you! I owe it big time to my parents for their support and helping find my path! They are amazing.
There's millions of people with supportive parents who have no drive to craft their skills this much either though, such as myself. Don't downplay the dudes pure will. I know that wasn't the intention in saying that, it's a great thing to have loving supportive parents.
@@MooSaidChicken Hi there, yes Miles parents are supportive, as he has said so himself, but I meant that they actually helped him by being the extra pair of hands he needed to help him complete this beautiful project. 💙
@@MakeWithMiles Then they did good. As a dad of a kid who's about your age, (damn I feel old to say that), seeing your kid just THRIVE in their passion and their path, I'm legit getting choked up. Keep up the great work Miles.
Dude. That is one of the coolest woodworking projects I've seen on UA-cam. The creativity, the finesse, the patience, and the aesthetics are all next level.
You should be incredibly proud of yourself - absolutely unreal.
This video led me to discover your channel and subsequently watch all your videos. One thing that struck me was how much your parents have supported and appreciated your talents over the years. I would like to suggest a future project of building new kitchen cabinets for your family home. Not only would this be a great way to thank your parents, but I would really love to see how you would approach kitchen cabinetry with your modern woodworking aesthetic. Might I recommend curved corner cabinets? Perhaps you could use your laser cutter to incorporate veneer inlay? In any case, I subscribed, and made my sons watch your videos to gain inspiration.
My husband is a retired cabinetmaker. When he first started, the garage was too small,so he also had to build out in the driveway. We had to eventually rent a container to put his finished cabinets in,to keep the cabs out of the rain.Keep it up! You have a good start!
I love everything about your videos. Your commitment to quality, in both the builds and editing, is inspiring.
Thank you! That means a lot 🙏
This young boy dangerous....... Keep up the good work 😃
man this feels so similiar to when I built my guitar while in college. Thought it would take me a summer. Two years later I finished it. Well done nothing is quite as rewarding and motivating as seeing your own work come together and getting to remind yourself of what you are capable of.
This is absolutely incredible. The idea, the journey, the storytelling, the finished product... Outstanding! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If you posted more consistently you could definitely blow up on UA-cam. You already got great editing skills, and the formatting of this video was amazing. Good work!
Thanks! With the scale of the projects I want to do it’s impossible to post every two weeks or so. That being said, I think UA-cam has changed to rewarding quality over quantity. just from my last 2 videos I’ve gained over 50k subs so I don’t think posting more smaller projects would do any better.
@@MakeWithMiles bro you literally have 113K subs, thats A LOT already. haters always see glass half empty lol great work, quality over quantity any day. You wanna keep the demand high and supply low
@@MyWildLifeAsNia i think he had alot less when this comment was initially made, his channel is blowing up now as we speak
agree!
@@micah5487 so @megadargar actually predicted the future, amazing
as someone who has many a lot of cabinetry, I can resonate with things taking longer than you expect.
you made a real stunning cabinet, well done !
Thank you!! I think I need to estimate it will always take at least twice as long 😂
@@MakeWithMiles don't cut yourself short, always leave plenty of time so you don't have to rush, I always make mistakes when I'm rushing.
And yeah I would agree leave twice as long, but the more you do things you have done before you will be confident in how long it will take you for sure.
Well done man! Truly an amazing project on its own, even more insane when you think about the the bad weather, student stuff and traveling back and forth so much. You really don't need to feel like an imposter, you're a true woodworker. Cheers from South Africa, keep up the incredible work!
I've probably watched this video 3 or 4 times all the way through and I still love it and the beautiful piece you created. I just wanted to say a big thank you Miles! You're one of the creators on YT who has really inspired me to start sharing my woodworking journey on here. Keep doing what you're doing, you have more impact than you know 🙌
I remember Laura talking about you several times in the past. I was vaguely aware that you were incredibly young and talented. Fast forward five years and I run across this thumbnail and immediately started watching you for the first time.
Three things I absolutely love and respect about you and your work. Your voiceover is top notch and communicates the build process very well. Camera work is stunning given the lighting, time constraints and the fact that it’s only you. Lastly they glue up was rough to watch and looked hard as hell. Kudos to you for showing the hard bits that drive hoards off armchair quarterbacks to comment about whatever they would do better.
After watching this video I can see why Laura talked about you. She was really ahead of the curve at seeing your potential. Thank you for this video and all your hard work.
As a 20 year old student who is in the process of getting her second woodworking diploma, i could only utter the words "Holy Shit i want that!". I'm a huge vinyl record fan and i love every bit of old school stuff.. Kudos man, keep it up.
More I dive into woodworking I realize this is all about detailed planning. And patience. Acurate measurement. And patience. Suitable tools and proper usage. And a lot of patience. All this was achieved by You and the result is impressive. Thanks for sharing Miles, it's inspiring.
Dude, hats off and congratulations! Such an amazing build with all the problems included. I was literally clapping in my chair when I saw that the doors were fitting. Really nice work and keep on making these videos! Thank you!
This gave me flashbacks. I used to knock out woodworking projects on my apartment patio, working against the elements and trying not to use loud power tools when neighbors were sleeping. Great work and way to overcome and outlast the elements!
As a maker myself, I understand how difficult it can be to balance building and recording cinematic shots. You're videos keep improving!
I admire you building that masterpiece outdoors in harsh weather conditions, and never giving up, and sticking with it all the way through! Your video is se very inspiring to all!!
That is more that a cabinet you made, it's a testament to your enduring enthusiasm to create a work of true art!
Great build Miles! I'm the same way, I want to finish projects quickly and often found myself setting goals each day like "I just wanna finish flush trimming the legs" or "If I can just get it all glued and clamped I can call it a day" but I found that my stuff started to look a lot better and frankly, I felt a lot better, when I started just letting stuff take as long as it takes and not trying to get it all done on a short timeline, especially when there wasn't one.
As an Industrial Designer just graduating, I find this highly encouraging and inspirational, thank you for the love for crafting!
Man, I really felt the struggle in this video. Sometimes nothing goes your way and then you're feeling weight of a deadline aswell. Inspiring man.
Congratulations young man. Your grand parents would be very proud to see you build such a lovely cabinet to go with their stereo. You certainly have inspired me to return to my shed and start building again. The skills you have will give you a lifetime of joy but also worth and value. These skill will always be useful. I truly wish you the best in your future projects.
I had no idea till the very end how amazing that contouring on the doors is. And also the holes in the doors for the speakers and the light turning on and off. Man you are an artist!!
The way you incorporated that sponsorship was literally perfect... Doing a sketch while showing some progress of your work in the meanwhile as well as making comparisons to woodworking made it feel like it's an actual part of the project - very organic! :)
Yes, I usually skip that part - they should pay him more!
It’s a great way to keep people watching all the way through (so they don’t miss any part of the video!)
So brilliant
I noticed that too! The only other UA-camr I've seen do this is Ten Hundred! I wonder if he learned it from him. 🤔
It's absolutely disgusting. UA-cam has been garbage for years because of this sponsorship stuff.
Miles, soak it all up! All the good feels and love! As you stand back and look at what you made, the excitement in (finally) hitting that upload button, the kind and true words from those of us who love and follow along with your journey. You chase after your projects like no one I've ever known before. What a beautiful record player cabinet! I love your masterly storytelling, humor, and, editing (terrific music selections). Keep on your path doing what you love. And don't forget to take a break, breathe, and stare up at the blue sky, at the twinkling stars.
I have been an Antique restore for over 30 years, you have just made an amazing piece of furniture great work.
This is the first of I’m sure many builds I’ll see from you. You did an awesome job going through the build process and your editing skills really made the project flow and keep the viewer engaged. The real showcase here though is that INCREDIBLE stereo cabinet! Absolutely stunning. Subscribed.
I just found the channel randomly! What a great way to tell a story...
It's the highs and lows of a project that really don't get "felt" by most channels. Can't wait for another build!
Good luck at college!
Miles,
I think you are a young person with incredible possibilities. You're educating yourself not just through institutional knowledge from College but additionally real world hard work, attention to detail, perseverance, patience, and fearlessness in being yourself. I don't know your back story young man but from what I see I'm proud of you. Your respect for your grandparents, parents and the work you're doing is extremely admirable. You clearly have your parents full support in life and the things you're interested in. Those ingredients in life are the perfect mix, I have no doubts Sir that you are not only a valuable addition to those around you, but to humankind itself.
Continue to follow your heart and do what's right. The sky is no longer the limit.
that’s a fire piece of furniture. super satisfying to see the whole process of how you made it start to finish
I’m studying architecture and seeing how you put furniture together is really inspiring, I think you would make a great architect!
Amazing craftsmanship! Keep it up!
This is not what I expected at all. Great story telling. What impressed me the most was your ability to "recover" from the little bumps and blips along the way and end up with a very refined finished product. That's true MAKER spirit.
Wow! I did not come into this video expecting this level of cinematography, artistry, and craftsmanship. I learned things and was entertained like I was at the movies. Looking forward to watching more of these. Really impressive!
This is what someone that loves what they do looks like. Doing this in your driveway and in that small garage takes dedication and love for what you do. Your videos are really well done. Keep it up.
I'm new to this channel for about a week now and you're amazing. The wood working is beautiful and the videos are very clean and you can tell a lot of care went into both! Awesome Job keep it up!
Miles this is gorgeous and I've immediately subscribed (with the bell!). I'm a year older than you and much newer to woodwork, but you show an incredible talent at designing and building that I've hardly seen in much older people and channels. Will be looking forward to more videos, and watching your old ones. Keep it up! :)
Wow! So impressive. If this is what you do on your off time, I can't imagine what you would accomplish doing this full time! Bravo! And, love that your parents help you out to support your efforts. That's not to be taken for granted. You have a new subscriber 🙂
Gotta say this was hands down one of the best youtube videos that i've ever watched. And just the joy, that i felt seeing that awesome cabinet get finished was like i would've done it myself. 5/5 overall with everything. God bless.
I love the entire piece, but I LOVE those doors sooooo much! I have been trying to learn how to build some things for my recording studio myself and it literally takes me 5X longer than I think it will to build one thing. You're not alone in underestimating the time it takes.
It might have been your most difficult project yet but it is also the best IMO. It is very nice seeing you improve both in woodworking and video production. Keep at it.
Damn! It's cool to actually connect with a creator. When I heard about the college stuff, I was inspired that you're doing all this and still managing studies, and the fact that your parents are helping with the process! Just wholesome all around!
Dude. I feel all of the struggles moving in and out of the garage, dealing with the cold and rain under a pop up, moving the piece in the living room for the glue to dry, etc….I can’t imagine trying to film it all, too. Hats off to you.
Seriously such an amazing piece of work! The video , editing and narration were done extremely well. Miles is the man !
Miles your design drawing alone shows such talent but the finished piece is mind blowingly amazing as such a timeless piece of furniture made so well. I love that such a beautiful stylish piece of furniture complements the record play as enhances is retro side in such a classy way - would love that in my home .
Your video edit is fab too - you really do rock !
this is so insanely beautiful !! the amount of skill and planning and attention to details is just astounding, you did such a great job. thank you for the inspiration, i'm not gonna builld anything like this soon but just your dedication is making me feel a spark to create :)
Normally, these kinds of videos go in my Wood or Projects playlist for inspiration later, but this one is also going straight into my Favorites. Very nice work, Miles. I'm very jealous, but also immensely stoked and also proud even though I don't even know you. It just turned out so well, and doing a project like this from a set of bought, premade plans would already be a pretty good achievement for most hobby woodworkers, but the fact that you thought this up and just came up with every step and executed them yourself, is just immensely gratifying and you should also be proud. I'm sure there are other builders looking at this and thinking "that's easy" and you might be right, in which case you should also be proud of your skills, something like this takes real finesse and dedication, especially making those kerfs work and then that door. Bravo, Miles.
That is the dopest record cabinet I have ever seen. And this video, including all the bussing home on your weekends, is inspiring me to get to the hobbies ive always wanted to do but pushed off cause im "too busy". Keep it up mate! Subscribed
This was so insanely beautiful and satisfying to watch. Well done Miles!!!
I don’t even do woodworking, but this was so informative and entertaining that I watched the whole video! The artistry and teaching element come so naturally to you, that you somehow make such a complex project look simple. Now I feel like I could do this too! 😂
I don’t have an ounce of interest in woodworking… and yet I was so captivated that I stayed til the end. That is a beautiful piece my friend.
Very elegant design, but what is also admirable is that you kept going without cutting corners (no pun intended) where many others would have either sacrificed some design aspects for convenience, or simply given up altogether. Impressive!
Miles this is crazy. Unique style, sick production value and truly inspiring. Thanks for this one !
Such a satisfying project. I love your attention to detail, and refusal to cut any corners! Phenomenal piece of craftsmanship 😍🔥
this video was so refreshing, a lot of things on youtube feel so plasticy when you watch them but there's something extremely real about this video
every video gets better, the project, the editing, the cinematography. you are killing it. keep it up.
Literally never expressed an interest in cabinet making before but I sat through this entire video. The end result is amazing. Kudos dude.
Love the grit & determination with which you pushed through the build --- it's well worth it!
the most down to earth and realistic vid about building a furniture i have ever seen.
quality !
Incredible work, all those hours really paid off for this beautiful design. The aesthetics fit so well. Great work dude
love it man. so well done. you can sincerely feel the passion you've put into this piece. cheers to happiness and continued success!
Wow so good! I can really appreciate that amount of time and effort that went into this video. Not only the build but filming and editing. Your story telling is great. I've been building huge wooden mountain bike features, but it would be cool to do something intricate and detailed like this. Thanks!
Legitimately obsessed with this.
This was more than just an entertaining build: it was a beautiful vision of perseverance and joy in the little things
Dude, I love your content, not only are they sweet-looking projects but the way you edit your videos is fun to watch. I hope school goes well for you.
So nice to see young creative people like you.
This was amazing on so many levels. Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best!
Dude the build quality the editing the whole project even the sketch for the idea so inspiring, you’re amazing man
unreal work ethic and attention to detail! respect the amount of time that went into making, recording, and editing it all! great vid
Thank you so much!
You are an inspiration miles! Not many kids your age have their head on their shoulders like you, I know I sure wish I did at your age 🤣 cant wait to see what you are building in a few more years, no doubt will it be incredibly epic!
Excellent work Miles. I love the design and the execution of the work. I just turned 72 this past October, I closed my wood shop in 2001 after 28 years. I have had another career since and now I think it’s time to make saw dust once again just for fun. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great video. I love the visuals and the athmosfere of the whole thing. I like how it felt like i was actually there and expiriencing the bed weather. Great job man! Cabinet looks amazing!
Beautiful work. Your parents must be so proud. Very well done.
What are you studying at college, Industrial Design? Your drawing skills are out of this world for that pre-vis of the record cabinet; love it!
I’m studying product design (basically the same as industrial) definitely is helping me hone my sketching and design skills! Thank you.
@@MakeWithMiles That's so rad! I'll be an industrial/product design student in Fall, and I'm so stoked. Cool to see you're studying it, too. Seems like a perfect match for everything you do - I envy your craftsmanship and design abilities!
Love it!!!! Looks great and I appreciate you showing all the trials and error you went through. Such a great piece of furniture
Absolutely in spectacular! The design is fanominal. Execution came from your heart. Perseverance through weather and the unexpected speaks volumes. Some of the finest of woodworking shops could not execute what you did under a tent in the winter. The production editing and content kept me from scrolling. I really appreciate you sharing this experience. All the best.
Honestly a work of art..timeless.
Dude once your videography skills go up over time you’re going to blow up if you keep making shit like that! Crazy cool 🖤🖤🤙🏼
I've never been more excited than when I see a new video from Miles. Love the creative story telling.
That means a lot! More to come 🙏
Amazing.
Congrats on finishing this.
Great sense of humor.
awesome result! great that you persevered finishing it
This is a gangster piece of art. I was hooked the whole time for the little details in your video
Honestly one of the best videos on you tube right now
This is the first video I've seen from you, thanks to the UA-cam algorithm. Instantly subbed, amazing work and content. Also loved the Laura Kampf banner.
as an old man who has used lathes, scroll saws and other tools for a lot of small wood projects. Im super jealous of this, its so clean and the final project looks so good man. Be proud thats a piece youll keep your whole life. Good job
Fantastic job on the cabinet! To answer your question, I scrape clue with a cut straw while it is still wet. It pulls the glue away from the wood rather than spreading it around like wiping does.
Easily my favourite building channel. You just have your personal jovial style without pretending to be anything else. I really like it.
That means a lot to me. Thank you.
This kid is crazy talented, I bet he will get super far in life.
Well done Miles. I can relate to all of this, from starting in a super small space with almost nothing. Keep at at, it all works out in the end. Strongs Brother!
