    Great video! Fair Hill is so big; really easy to get “lost.” The gravel there is endless, and so many awesome MTB trails too! Keep exploring with both the gravel rig and MTB, it will be a blast!! Every time I ride there my buddies have to remind me which way to turn; and they say “we’ve been here a hundred times!” I just enjoy the ride😃

    Nice job. Riding gravel there can be tough. It is cool watching your videos because I ride a lot of the places you do and it’s nice to get a different perspective on things sometimes. Keep up the good work and hope to see you on the trail sometime.

    Great video! I started mountain biking just before the pandemic to get my 40yr old body moving. It has been both a thrill and a real challenge. BTW, I ended up on your video cos I am looking for a Gravel / Hybrid. Is the R5 tubeless ready? Again, thanks for sharing!

    • @BIIIKES

      Thanks! Very similar journey for me as well (I used to trail run, but 10 yrs, 2 kids and a cushy desk job later, I became out of shape). Glad you found the channel! The stock R5 wheels aren't pre-taped, but plenty of people have taped them and then converted tubeless with no issue. I've since changed wheels to the DT Swiss G1800 gravel wheelset. I love them. I'm starting to do some serious gravel stuff, so I wanted a more tried and true wheelset, but there isn't anything wrong with the stock wheels. I'm putting together a formal review of the bike, but I wanted to ride the bike a few months first. You truly can't beat the bang for your buck you get with this bike and for these components . I've gotten a ton of compliments on the frame too, as it's just a little bit different than everything else out there. The 1x and dropper post made me feel at home coming from my Top Fuel as well.

      Thanks for the immediate detailed response! Good to know that the "work around" actually works! And yes, absolutely components such as Shimano 800s when competitors aren't even offering Shimano's 400 series at this price point is a real steal!

    Great video!
    I’ve been looking for gravel/fitness bikes for a while and I found your videos about the trek fx. Is there much of a difference between the bend r5 and the fx?
    Also any 38/37c tire recommendations for road and gravel.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks, man! Pretty big difference in efficiency. The Bend is MUCH more efficient due to the natural aero position that drop bars give you, while the FX is a more upright position. Really depends on personal preference (my FX is on my trainer mostly, and is the bike I take on relaxed rides with my kids, vacations with bike paths- Hilton Head, for example). For 37, 38c I recommend the WTB Riddlers. Good all around tire. Decent on road, good grip on gravel. Highly recommend! I really like the WTB Ventures at the 650b 47c size.

    It is normal for a new bike to have shifting issues because the cables are not yet fully stretched. It is recommend to bring your bike back in for a tune up after a couple of rides. Usually a LBS will offer a free tune up for this very reason if you bought the bike from them.

    • @BIIIKES

    Cool video sir. Hey did you try some different wheels on this baby, do you reckon you can run 29" mtb wheels on this? Thanks

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  Рік тому

      Hey! Not sure if you watched any of my later videos with this bike, but I ended up putting on DT Swiss wheels and WTB Sendero tires. While the bike is made more for 650b wheels, you can definitely run 700c (29") on it. You just can't run super wide tires with a 700c setup (I believe 42mm max). Honestly, the 650b (27.5) setup on this bike feels perfect.

    Hey, I'm looking to buy a Bend but I'm stuck between a medium and a large, how tall are you and how does the large fit? Do you feel too stretched out? I normally ride a mountain bike with a reach of 465 with a 35mm stem, i have no idea how that correlates to a gravel bike tho.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  2 роки тому +3

      I'm 5'11 and ride the Large Bend R5. My Trek mountain bike I ride M/L. I would follow the size recommendations on the website. You can always make micro-adjusrments to the seat, or get a shorter stem if you're too stretched out. Just remember, you are going to be less upright on a gravel bike. Keep me posted!

    Hey!
    How can you set the dropper post. I have seen it is wired, but cannot see any levers? Thanks

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  2 роки тому +1

      Hey there! So, the left brake lever also controls the dropper post. Just push it in to the right. It's a 1x drive train so the shifting is only done from the right brake lever. Hope that helps!

      @@BIIIKES Thx for answering. That's actually pretty interesting and probably a good idea for a future video BTW as many of us struggle with fitness alternatives and abhor "spin classes" at the Y during the off season as the only alternative. I saw that you were riding on gravel with yours last year whereas my wife and younger son both felt that "their" FX2 wasn't up to it; she upbiked to a 2021 Specialized Diverge E5 alloy (she wanted drop bars and faster gearing) and he to a 2022 Marlin 5 (he moved up a frame size and the 38c tires were too skinny for our washed out gravel trails and road shoulders with lots of debris.) Now it's unloved and will probably be on Facebook marketplace soon. That you use your FX for a Wahoo Kickr actually gives me an idea. I've been trying to talk her out of a Peloton, which IMO is a money suck and a space hog.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES  2 роки тому +2

      So many future video ideas, haha. If I didn't work so many hours a week lol. If you're on Strava, connect with me. (Search for 302 MTB- you'll see the logo) My wife is a part time personal trainer and we have a spin bike parked right next to the Kickr, and she hasn't used the spin bike since I got the trainer back in January. I just put her bike on the night before if she wants to ride in the morning before work. We use an app called Rouvy (Zwift competitor). We love it.
