    I put a 30degree stem on my specialized Vado. I’m 185 pounds and in my 70s. And I’ve got hand arthritis. It’s a great product but keep in mind it’s really a ride smoothener, and not a shock absorber. it’s been great on roads with imperfections, but you’ll still feel big bumps. I’d definitely recommend this stem, with the caveats I mentioned.

      Not sure. I would check the manufacturers max tire size for that frame. Whatever it says, you can usually go 3+mm or so over that.

    Just fitted these(45mm) on my Kona Sutra for some all terrain touring and after the initial test ride I am pleased. Comfortable, fast, typical Pirelli drop-in when cornering. I found myself hitting the corners much faster. I even took them down some sloppy single track as an opportunity to practice my (un)controlled sliding. They were all over the place in the mud. Good fun though. I’ll stick with these for the rest of spring and summer and then I might try the M version.

    What is the seat you like? Does it come with that bike set up? Or did you put it on for testing? Is the checkpoint 4 comparable for a first time gracel bike or would I regret not spending more to get the drifter? I dont really want a dropper seat and test rode a checkpoint 4 I am just trying to decide on sizing 54 or 56 because I am shorter but rode a 56 and seem to like it. Any suggestions?

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES Місяць тому

      Everything in the video was the stock setup. Seats are personal preference and based on your sit bone measurements, so what works for someone else might not work for you. The frame size is dependent on your reach, stand over height etc. Again, so personal to you. Get measured up by your local bike shop. Make the choice that's right for you.

      I don't think you could go wrong with any of those. Personally, I would maybe lean towards the fat bike with the front fork (if you're truly set on owning a fat bike). Two weeks ago I've bought mine FX 2 Disk 2022. too as the replacement for my well over ten years old bike with older Shimano 3x7 Tourney drivetrain. I've found it at my local bike store on discount for about 749 Euros (I'm from the EU) after thorough research on which bike to choose from. And I have to say that I'm very impressed with this bike's buildt quality, how it handles on paved (mostly flat) roads and some light gravel paths, mostly also by it's comfort (Bontrager handles could be somewhat better shock absorbers for a non-suspension bike), shifters, very responsive brakes and how light it actually is (only about 11.7 kg). 2x9 Altus/ Acera drivetrain is very smooth and fun to use. I use bike for several days each week as a means of exercise and usually do something about 10-15 km per each ride or more if I'm in good shape and there's nice weather. It's a bit odd but here in Europe Trek FX 2 Disk comes with Tektro brakes, not the ones on bikes in the States. Warm greetings from Croatia, European Union, all over the Atlantic sea! 👍👍👍

    Thanks for the video! I’m thinking of getting the fx2 mainly for commute in the city and seems it would behave good on some gravel too. Other option I was considering was the dual sport, but that doesn’t seem as much fun as the fx.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES 2 місяці тому

      Both are great bikes. If there's any off road to your commute, or if you decide to venture off, the dual sport will definitely be more comfortable... but can't go wrong with either!

    • @RixRoll
      @RixRoll 2 місяці тому

      @@BIIIKESI plan to ride 80% on pavement and 20% light off road. In this scenario would you think the fx would be a better choice? Also, do you know about the seating position, would it not be too stiff for the back for the fx bike? • @BIIIKES

    Keep an eye on your Framed Minnesota 's cassette. During the last year of production, Framed used some substandard parts. I found that Framed supplied my Minnesota Framed Fat bike with a cheap "Sunshine" branded cassette. Unfortunately, on a steep hillclimb, the bikes tallest gears in this cassette two composite spacers cracked. My chain jumped off of the cassette and got jammed between the spokes and gear one. I had to remove the rear wheel, pull the derailleur off and untangle a very dirty chain in the field to temporarily fix it enough to get home. I later replaced the Sunshine cassette with a new Sun Race, CSMS2, 10sp, 11-42T cassette. The Sun Race cassette has metal spacers and is stainless steel. It makes my riding experience on my Framed Minnesota much better.

    I used these tires when I first bought my gravel bike in 2021. Then they became hard to get and when you could get them again the cost went up $25 - $30. I switched over to Gravel King SS tires which I found just as fast and far cheaper. They are very durable as well.

    Polygon makes fantastic bikes. But the gear ratios on this one seem “boring”, i mean a 38t chainring would feel dead slow on the flats isn’t it? I have a Heist X7 with a similar crank and i fall asleep on the flats when i ride it on the road( though i realise it isn’t meant for that).

      @BIIIKES 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, I get that. I ride some pretty hilly stuff (for me), So I enjoy it. Always gravel, never road. 42/42 might be better for most on this bike. Good comment!

    Don’t look like they sell that R5 model Shimano grx you have anymore. They have the R7 model now with Sram apex groupset. Same price. Do you think Apex is as good?

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES 6 місяців тому

      You get a lot of bike for the price. Also, just realize that everything on that bike is upgradable. The difference between a moderate and top tier groupset has never been closer. I would spend the money to upgrade the wheels over a groupset, at least at first.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES 7 місяців тому

      Haha, ironically I have a Bend R2 in my basement right now (was my wife's until I bought her a Checkpoint AL5) and my first gravel bike was the Bend R5 (videos of that on my channel as well). I would say Checkpoint only because of the frame (it's a Trek) and the components. The GRX system is a much better (and lighter) groupset than the Shimano Sora that comes on the R2 (no clutch either on the Sora either). The brakes on the Checkpoint are hydraulic disc brakes rather than mechanical disc (night and day difference, especially in inclement weather). I love Polygon bikes, but Trek just makes an incredible bike and the support they give is ridiculously good.

    I have the ALR5 AXS and the 40- 11-44 gearing is enough for any hills I normally encounter. The dropper on this one only has 50mm of travel but for me, that's enough as well. It mainly helps with mounting and dismounting that is a little challenging at times. I broke my hip last year and while "fully healed" there are days when throwing the leg over is made better by having that little bit of drop.

    • @BIIIKES
      @BIIIKES 8 місяців тому
