    Great video. Im also having overheating problems with my 2002 ford focus ztec dohc. How can i test the resistor connector if it is receiving power? Does the car has to be warm so the resistor send current to the low speed fan? Or can be checked with the switch in "on" position?

    What temperatures should the fans be coming on low and then high?
    When I turn on the AC the fans come on low and when I disconnect the temp sensor entirely the fans come on high. But they don't seem to come on soon enough to kick the fans on before the coolant boils.

    I hope you can point me in the right direction. My wife's 2000 Mazda Protege has no leaks, does not overheat, nor run badly. As well, we replaced the waterpump and timing belt about 2 years ago. However, when I looked in her overflow tank, it looks like dirty water. Though it has been flushed out, 6 months later it is there again. BTW, there is no oil/water mixture in the oil. What is the source of this muddy-water looking fluid in the reservoir tank?

    I have a 96 olds cutlass supreme, 3.1l, and 2 electric radiator fans. The problem is only one of the 2 fans works when called upon. I've verified that the other fan works by bench testing it and jumping the relay for fan #2. Fan #2 is actually the a/c condenser fan. I'm pretty sure the ecm knows of both these fan relays, but only fan #1 works. The fuses and relays for these 2 fans appear to be good. What might be the problem now? Is there anything else in the circuit that I am not aware of?

    I have an 04 Mercury Grand Marques. Same system for 03-05 Panther platform cars. Bought new dorman 620-120. Installed it. Still no cooling fan. 3 wires to fan controller +red, -black, orange (signal wire from pcm) no relays separate. 50 amp fan square fuse in distribution box, under hood. Tests good. There's a coolant temp sensor ez to get at, passenger side front, cylinder head temp sensor, under intake manifold, passenger side head. The factory temp gauge works great. Where does pcm, receive info, to signal fan controller? Please tell me, it's not cylinder head temp sensor!!!. Not expensive, but stupid to get at!! Like I said fan, and controller, are brand new!

    I changed the sensor switch on top of the thermostat and the 2 sensors below the distributor and my cooling fan doesnt come on when u turn on the ac and it's supposed to but never does. I checked my relays and fuses and they're fine. I thought maybe my fan needs to be replaced but I ran alligator clips from the cooling fan directly to the battery and the cooling fan came on with no problem. So my question is why isnt my cooling fan turning on when I turn on the ac???? The fan on the driver side comes on without any problems.

    I have a 2003 Chevy Malibu and the fans don't come on and the car overheats. I haven't been using it cause I don't want to damage the engine. But, I tested the fans and ran a wire to the battery and the fans come on high; I also turn the a/c on and the fans come on high. I checked the fuses and relays and they are good, except fuse 55 cooling fan #2 ground (30amps) (v6 only) doesn't light up the test light. The wiring diagram says hot all times but I guess it should complete the circuit when the cool temp shorts out. I replaced the thermostat and that didn't fix the problem either. Then I shorted out the wires that go to the coolant temp sensor and that did turn on the fans on high. So I went ahead and replaced the coolant temp sensor, but it still doesn't turn the fans on and the car overheats. I then thought the coolant wasn't flowing and replaced the water pump, and the same issue. Then I opened up the bleeder valve and put more coolant, then turned the heat high with blower low, and still no fix to the issue. I then took out relay #12 (cool fan #2) and ran a wire from 30 to 87 to see if the fans turned on low and they did, so this determined that relay #15 (cool fan mode relay also works because it has to go through that relay to complete that circuit). But still I can't fix this. With the information I have provided, what do you guys think it is?

    Is it possible that a bad engine coolant temperature sensor could also not allow your cooling fans to come on? Can you jump the ECT sensor wires to confirm whether or not that could be part of the problem? Thank you.

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  8 років тому +1

      Bill, sure it's possible but it would depend on how your cooling fan is designed to come on. If the ECT is sending a signal to the PCM that indicates the coolant is not hot, then the PCM will not turn on the cooling fans. Check it with a scanner. Also, your car may allow you to command the cooling fans to come on so you cab check them.

    Wow! I wish you could look at my car. I don't think my high speed fan ever came on as long as I owned my car and I've been brushed off by at least a dozen mechanics because the slow speed works but it never kicks in at high speed. One garage told me to leave it and that it could cost a lot of money to locate an electrical issue in a 2004 Volvo v70. Is there a book out there that has all that information that I could use to help me locate a problem?

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  4 роки тому +1

      Ron, yes there are all sorts of books available. However your problem is electrical. So the best thing you can do is get and study the electrical diagram for your specific vehicle. That diagram will show EXACTLY how it is supposed to work because it is drawn by the engineers who designed it. Then you will simply need basic testing skills. Approach it like a detective, look for evidence for what is and what isn't working. The evidence will lead you to the problem. Those dozen mechanics that brushed you off simply don't understand that, or they are not willing to put I n the time.

      the relay has two sides, 1 is control the other is contacts. The control side is basically a switch that turns the relay on. That switch needs a signal as an input, that signal is the temperature switch. Try bypassing the temp switch, jump both wires together, and see if the relay works then.
