I'm really impressed with the rare creativity and high level awareness displayed in this video. I completely agree that games can be an ideal way to work on oneself in so many ways and it took a long time, playing poker for instance, not to beat up on myself after experiencing a bad night and to treat myself kindly and with understanding. When playing WalkAbout Mini golf I consider it to be like serving an apprenticeship when playing players better than me or on an unfamiliar course and it is a really great way to work on my emotional states while experiencing frustration, so.........an excellent tool that can potentially favorably impact other areas of life. Thank you again Julian!

Thank YOU for this wonderful comment, and I love everything you said here. Being careful of how we are talking to ourselves throughout our VR and gaming experiences is so vital. Being an ally instead of an antagonist to yourself is so important, and VR can be a great way to learn more about that, if people stay focused on it, and really go into every VR experience paying close attention to how they communcate with themselves during and after. Thanks for sharing this, and all of us are truly learning every moment, and becoming better, smarter, more rounded people every moment. Hopefully more good will come from that than bad!

I got some friends who could use your advices, like you said, we should learn to embrace our failures as means to achieve better results, and this applies to life as well.
The world taughs us to shun failure, as if you should always be perfect on your first shot.
I treasure the fact that my friends all have different gaming skills, and if we pay closer attention, one can get better with less effort as there are teachers in unexpected places.

Love this - well said for sure. It is hard - I have difficulty with it consistently, even while implementing the things I talked about here. But remembering that life is short, and VR is meant to WONDERFUL, I do try to always remind myself first and foremost to enjoy VR, and not just rely on my being great at everything I try to do. Thanks for the comment!

I've been a console gamer since consoles existed, so I'm old and slow and have gotten used to getting enjoyment from games I suck at.

Love that - and I do wonder how much age can play a part in response times and such, depending on type of game being played. I'm no "spring chicken" myself, so I do think about that as well. And how much can we overcome those obstacles, with practice and focus. Thanks for sharing that!

You should also keep in mind that it's the best players that are motivated to share their gameplay and play online. You don't see the average gamer as often and they're likely no better than you are. It's like people on Instagram judging themselves by what they see other people doing. That's not an accurate representation of the average person.

This is such a GREAT comment, and so very true. Thank you for pointing that out as well. Truly, the best players are probably sharing their experiences the most, and that's what we see. Thank you so much!

I just stay away from first person multiplayer shooters. I stick to single player games set it to easy , and that is how I enjoy gaming. I work full time have kids and at university so don’t get time to get good at first person shooters

There is that, for sure! It's hard when I WANT to be good at something, but am not "naturally" good at it, and don't have the time (or desire) to put 8 hours a day into it. I go through phases of doing single player stuff to clear my head and get away from the "competitive" nature of the first person shooters. I hear you there. Good point!

LOL! Okay, I've been told that before, and I'll take it as a compliment! Although, I wish I had one small bit of his talent, money, and altruism! LOL.... Preesh the comment!

I hate VR because I had never used one 🤬 Until I tried one and ooh man that is the best technology in the 21st century and it does not need a buzz word like "AI"

Amen! It's really one of those things people just can't really understand until they try it for the first time, and hopefully under the right circumstances, so they have a great first experience. Thanks for sharing this!

You lost me at "take a break".
What if I'm just bad at every game (VR or not)? What if nothing in VR brings me joy (because I'm too angry)? Any advice for that?
What's that? Put down the headset and go touch grass? I don't think that'll bring me joy.

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  2 місяці тому +1

A very good question, and I'm glad you brought it up. While you might not want to hear it, if truly "nothing in VR brings me joy," I would have to ask why you would be in VR at all. That's not a rhetorical question, and certainly not to sound sarcastic or anything - it's a genuine question. I mean, if you do feel compelled to do VR, despite feeling you're bad at every game, what is it about VR that DOES bring you joy, and how can you focus maybe more on those aspects, rather than the games that are constantly frustrating. It's like taking a vacation somewhere - do you go somewhere where you never have a good time, but it's familiar and easy to get there, or do you seek out a new place to go that might be more enjoyable for you, but might be out of your norm? Taking a break can be from VR in general, or just from certain experiences, and see how you feel. Does that help at all? Let me know if you have a followup question at all, and I'd love to hear from anyone else who wants to kindly chime in. It is a challenging area, to be sure.
