I was 16 years old when this came out. I was a mess. I had alcoholic parents, my sister was married and moved away, I was alone and totally wanting to be loved and to love someone. This song is amazing. Tonight, I took my wife out to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. I found my Amanda.
The bottom line is, you're happy as we speak. I am always amazed how a great piece of music and a beautiful voice can remind us of any particular moment in life. Good luck the rest of the way and happy 34th !
@@leopresnell8653 me three! Saw them twice with the great Brad Delp and one of those shows he sung with Fran cosmo. They would take turns singing the really high notes. Orion the Hunter with Fran is a phenomenal album start to finish.
Boston is an American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "More Than A Feeling", "Peace Of Mind", "Foreplay/Long Time", "Rock & Roll Band", "Smokin'", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", "We're Ready", "Amanda" etc.
You know that first album there wasn’t one song that did not get play time on the radio I had probably at least 20 to 25 friends and everyone of them had the album when that album came out word got out everybody went out and got that album
'A Man I'll Never Be" is even deeper than this song, "Foreplay/Long Time" is astounding in musicality and will rock you to the core. One man -Tom Scholz wrote and recorded the songs and guitar, keyboards etc. by himself before bringing in the singer and drummer. A true genius!
Yes he was you can go on UA-cam and watch the whole story of Boston the band they call it really interesting he takes you to his childhood home where he did all that in the basement call
"soft rock" "Dad rock" "Corporate rock". They could fall into any or all of these. The truth is - it's great fkn music and timeless! Easy on the ears, powerful on your soul.
I've always loved Boston!! The late great Brad Delp had a voice like no other, and Tom Schultz had a guitar tone that was as sweet as honey. This band crafted their songs with such attention to detail. COOL THE ENGINES is another great tune from the Third Stage album...check it out. 😉
Went and bought this album The Third Stage right after basic training in 1986. Wore that cassette out many times over. Another song I would like to see you react to is A Man I’ll Never Be. ✌️
Boy, I do love this song. This song was their one and only #1 hit song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the fall of 1986. I do love their follow-up to this song. We're Ready was also a Top 10 hit from the same album, Third Stage. Two awesome songs, indeed!!!
I was a professional rock drummer in the late 60's and early 70's'. I'll never forget the first time I heard them (it was 'Peace of Mind' - still my favorite) ... it was an Epic experience! Saw them live as soon as possible and was amazed at how much the concert sounded exactly like the album. To this day, they're the most 'melodically versatile and precise' band I've ever heard. ✌ ^v^
Boston was my 1st concert at WSU in 1978. We were blown away after almost 3 hours of power and we danced and drank on campus till sunrise. I've seen many bands and Boston with Brad singing and Tom Schultz MIT genius mastering their great music. In 1977 you couldn't drive without hearing a Boston song. We had 8 track tapes and thought we were so freaking cool. lol. Before someone says you're old, I'm a young 62 yr old rocker chick. 😉❤
Oh, so y'all jumped straight into Third Stage. Good Choice on this reaction. Amanda is a great song. As it happens Boston Third Stage was the first CD I ever bought. Still have it. It went into my new Sony portable CD player I got for Christmas 1986. Good Memories. !986 was a good year. From Journey's Raised on Radio "The Girl Can't Help It", and Van Halen's 5150 Album "Why Can't This Be Love" and Boston's Holly Ann from this same album. Thanks and God Bless.
"Foreplay/Long Time" and "Peace of Mind" are both must listens. But Boston in general you cant go wrong, especially their debut album. Loving these reactions!
Boston, Classic Rock and Roll with that make you good feeling. It came out when I was in eighth grade. First Album I ever bought my Freshman Year in high School. Still my favorite Album/Band.
Boston has a real deep catalogue of outstanding songs. From the writing to the musicianship, their songs are a true testament. And let’s not forget the other thing that drew a lot of us old timers to the band besides the music…the album cover art. The cover art makes a statement all its own and very few bands can equal them.
Boston is one of 4 bands that became the music I loved growing up... I can listen to the ehole third stage album on repeat and never get bored with it.
I'm 51 and I've seen them 4 times in concert. It's the only concert I've been to where middle aged men stand on their chairs in suits and play air guitar unashamedly.
Great review kind folks. It took the band 7 years to write and record this masterpiece. The band wanted to make sure this song was and is to this day a powerful song.
Third Stage came out due to lawsuits between Boston and their record label. Boston's first 2 albums were huge. They finally released Third Stage to fulfill their contract agreement for 3 albums, several years later. Check out, "A man I'll never be." Grab a tissue....
HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS _I will never forget the Boston concert in 1982 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Texas the music the Piro-tech on stage was out of this world awesome concert
"Amanda" is off their 3rd album (on which I also love "I Think I Like It") and helped define what a "Power Ballad" is. Their 2nd album has "Don't Look Back" and "Feelin' Satisfied" I also like "Foreplay/Long Time"
BJ hit the jackpot and he knows it. Speaking of BJ.....he just exudes common sense and intelligence. A very perceptive, aware man. I like his vibe....a lot. He reminds me of my best friend. They say that you choose your friends based upon attributes that you admire and wish to emulate. BJ has got them.
Boston is one of the great bands of the 70's Their first album is basically their greatest hits! One of the best debuts in the history of rock! Anything from the first album should be your next reaction for Boston.
Asia & BJ, their masterpiece is "Foreplay/Long Time". It is for them like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" or Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". It's a long, complex really powerful song that will make your jaws drop, I guarantee it. It's really popular and still played constantly on rock stations today.
Their first album came out the same summer I turned 11 and I had to wait till Christmas to get it. I played it till it was thin. The second album came out two years later. And then the record company took them to court, because the secret; it was all one guy. The third album didn't come out until 10 years after the first. 26 songs total. 26 golden songs.

I got one for you from Boston. Peace of mind. I mention this for several reasons being a guitarist and playing in a band for a long time. First of all the songs lyrics will make such great sense to you and everyone needs to hear it. Truly. Secondly… As you’ve heard the vocals are always top notch but this song really shows his range. Lastly… If you want to hear some outstanding guitar work this song despise Boston’s guitar work as well. Of course they demonstrate that an older songs but this song puts it together collectively. Alright. I have a special request for you people that do reactions. Make us old timers, that grew up on this music, a video describing how you feel about our old music. We really like watching your reactions to things like the lyrics, solos, etc... It makes us smile when you are pleasantly surprised with an old classic. I graduated high school in 76 and all of this was on the radio every day. It's great to see young people discover what we had back in the day. Thanks in advance. Everyone give a thumbs up on this comment if you think this is a good idea.
I truly appreciate your words. I just heard this reaction from them today and was going to write something similar, except I graduated in '79. I am thoroughly blessed having grown up in the Era where I could listen to all the great music i.e. Pop, Rock, R&B etc, and never allowed anyone to label me, just because I was black. So much so, I raised my kids and now grandkids on this. Thanks again #Kindred Spirit
@@headedsomewhere Thanks for the reply. Do you remember back then our music wasn't separate. All of us liked all of the music. It was all on one radio station.
I remember when this song was released, a LONG time after "more than a feeling", and it kinda got panned by the critics for being too much of a throwback style because it didn't fit in with the current style of music going round. But if you listen to it ignoring all of that, it's just really a great song.
Good point. Looking back, a lot of us, (I know I did), mistook the band's unique sound for just the sound of that era. I guess you have to be pretty iconic for people to make that mistake. But yeah, I remember this album feeling out of sync with what was going on at that time, so it did feel 'old,' like they weren't growing or something. But had I listened to it more like a Rolling Stones album, (which I never minded when it sounded like a Rolling Stones album), then I suspect this would have seemed less like clinging to past success, and more like another album by a band with an iconic rock sound.
Tom Sholz is an amazing songwriter, musician and producer, the whole project is his vision, he fought with his record company on every release because he would take years to perfect each song and album, bunch of lawsuits ensued, it was ridiculous, but at the end of the day his sound & vision was 100% perfect.
It always took about 3 years between albums but when one came out it was fantastic beginning to end. Not a weak song on any of their albums. Just remember that behind every good man is a great woman.

So much so, I raised my kids and now grandkids on this. Thanks again #Kindred Spirit
@@headedsomewhere Thanks for the reply. Do you remember back then our music wasn't separate. All of us liked all of the music. It was all on one radio station.
@@russellrister595 yes Sir, it was
I remember when this song was released, a LONG time after "more than a feeling", and it kinda got panned by the critics for being too much of a throwback style because it didn't fit in with the current style of music going round.
You're absolutely correct. I love this song so much that I named my daughter after it.
Tom Sholz is an amazing songwriter, musician and producer, the whole project is his vision, he fought with his record company on every release because he would take years to perfect each song and album, bunch of lawsuits ensued, it was ridiculous, but at the end of the day his sound & vision was 100% perfect.
I know so many Amandas because of this song. Lol. It's so beautiful. Boston is a great band.
Amanda's takes me back to my youth
Luv Boston. Thanks for the entertainment
It always took about 3 years between albums but when one came out it was fantastic beginning to end. Not a weak song on any of their albums. Just remember that behind every good man is a great woman.
Love this tune. One of my favorites is their song "Feeling Satisfied". It has a great flow to it. Great guitar rock. Enjoyed your reaction! Peace!
Boston, soft rock? Now that's funny. Seriously they have some really rocking songs.
