When this album came out seems like everybody went and got it including me. Not one bad song on this whole album. One of the best debut albums ever
Was the #1 debut album for 11 years.
Definitely I just wish I was alive at that time to get the album lol
Still have my album!😀
@@roniboyd613 I have it on my playlist
@@roniboyd613 nice
Brad Delp has one of the best voices and range ever. R.I.P. Brad Delp!
Brad Delp has one of the best voices ever; he can hit those high notes (countertenor) and hold them and NO AUTO TUNE!! The harmonies, the guitar solos, the drums.. This is a perfect song. RIP Brad. xx
That is Brad Delp's real voice (RIP). NO AUTOTUNE!! He hits that very high note on his own and the brilliant music editing of the founder Tom Scholz ties it perfectly to the guitar at the end.
Check out Rick Beato's YT channel where he does "What Makes This Song Great". He isolates the voice track and you can hear clearly that Brad Delp delivered all those notes, no question.
@@bobr4987 Yes he does a great review of this song and improved my appreciation of the song even more.
Brad Delp's voice....❤❤❤💯💯💥
He was SUCH a Monster. If ONLY he had reached out..... 😭😭😭😭
@@RaincloudmusicTFS6 It seemed to me, from what I heard at the time, that he DID reach out, in a way, and nobody else was much interested in trying to recapture the glory days, and I guess Brad felt he didn't have much else going for him. So sad - he had so much more to offer than he realized.
Boston is a top 5 rock band of all time.
And they should be in the Rock Roll Hall of Fame..
This song NEVER fails to make people smile!
"Foreplay/Long Time", "Rock and Roll Band", "Smokin'" are some of my favorites. So many great Boston songs that are so well written that you'll feel like you've heard them even if you haven't.
Foreplay/long time
Is a rollercoaster ride 😁
Foreplay/ long time yessss guitar hero memories also 😆
Peace of Mind. Basically anything off of their debut album, the whole album is front to stern hits. Not a bad song on the album and almost every song on it gets semi-regular radio play to this day.
OMG, 'Hitch A Ride'!!! BRAD'S VOICE was angelic!!!!
I wore this album out! Lol. Love it!
It blows me away how Music reactors never heard of the groups we grew up on! Are we that old?!!!!! Great reaction as always, Asia and BJ!!!!
Yeah, we are that old... 🤣but it's fun to watch the younger reactors discover the music for the first time the same way we did.
Yeah, bad news, mate. We are definitely that old. Hehe!
Maybe we are lol I turned 60 yesterday and I heard this when 16. It just feels like yesterday for me
I'm 62, so we are in the same age range.
Those of us who were privileged to experience the 70's now realize ever so more at the sheer number of musical masterpieces produced during that era.
alone. I was 18 yo when this album was released- live music existed everywhere as did Hi FI (High Fidelity)
Analog Sound systems which many of us possessed allowing us to really experience the sound!
If ever you were to do an entire album reaction - one song after the next - this album should be high on your list to do! Truly.
Not one bad song on this one.
I'm not a Boston fan BUT everyone has to accept This song is a marvel.
agree
AND...four track TAPE equipment...not 128 track digital. Wow.
This one is in my top 5 songs of all time, never get tired of hearing it.
Yeah, it has perfect amount of everything - it's not heavy, but still has some amazing riffs, the lyrics reflect on a very familiar feeling a lot of people can relate to, while it's not a happy song (the regret of letting someone go), it's also not depressing to listen to. The overall instrumentation is phenomenal, the vocals are out of this world. If I was forced to pick a song that I had to listen to forever, this would be one of my top candidates.
Mine would be Stair way LED ZEP, Fox on the run THE SWEET ,Slow ride FOG HAT smoke on the water DEEP PURLLE Hair of the dog NAZARETH Some thing bout the 1970s Baby
Fell in love w rock n roll when I first heard this at 8 years old. Still my favorite song ever. Imo pure perfection.
Brad Delp could hit notes only Dogs can hear! This entire Album is considered by most as one of thee GOAT Rock albums ever created period. Every song is absolute fire and hopefully you start doing more Boston!
I just wish that they had seen this song done Live on video with Brad Delp holding those notes; they are really missing out! They need to experience the whole thing! RIP Brad. x
That is one comparison I need to remember, "...only dogs can hear!"
For me, this song could be talking about itself, as it takes me back to a day in high school each time I hear it.
I thought the same thing. I don't think it's an irony but it's still a cool and strange observation. It's like "yeah Brad, I get exactly what you're saying!" lol
Me too. Specific moments of 1977 come back in all their detail.
Bingo,,,,😎
I have never met a person who does not love this song. More universal appeal than any song around. Tell me if you don't think the guitars sound like an an aural expression of the agony of long ago letting someone get away - we all have our Maryanne, don't we....... Its like the guitar is doing the crying. It is absolute perfection.
This song is about Scholz smoking Marijuana in Collage. Mary ann… Stoners tripping. 🚬😎🎸
The guitar player recorded this album in his very small basement. By himself and played all instruments except for vocals.
You need to watch the making of More Than A Feeling to really understand the genius of Tom Sholz, who more or less is Boston. Every sound on this song, except the drums and lead singer is Tom Sholz. He recorded this whole album in his basement by himself, at night after working at his regular job. The recording equipment he even built himself.
He is an MIT graduate. He also designed and built his own amps in his basement.
Scholz is a genius. Almost impossible to reproduce this sound because of that one effects pedal he has the only copies of…which he built.
As noted by other commenters, this is a perfect album -- the writing, the production, the engineering -- everything. One of the greatest debut albums ever.
@@ilikejohnhurt Now days it is quite easy to produce the Boston guitar sound. There are digital plug ins that can and do out Rockman the Rockman which BTW was not a guitar effects pedal. The heart of the guitar sound on this record is a Marshall amp being driven hard and some serious eq work. The pedal that you are alluding to his the so called hyperspace pedal which is nothing more than a modified echo plex tape delay echo machine, and the DigiTech Whammy Pedal and a good digital effects processor can cover just about any sound Toms hyperspace pedal does
This is literally in my official list Top Five Songs Ever Recorded. It's flawless and transcendent. If you're able to find a GOOD recording of the isolated vocal track, you won't believe that Brad could sound any more amazing than he already did.
Every man FEELS the line, "I closed my eyes and she slipped away."
Your” Every Man” reply is right on 100%. Mine was named Marry Ann. Wow!! Who knew. Great line in the song. Glad you pointed that out. 😎
@@johnroberts1009 Man, sometimes I can't even listen to this song......if I'm down about anything, it'll remind me of *my* "Mary Ann," and sometimes I just don't need that. ;)
Boston-"Something about You", is a fire song!
Yes, "Something about you" is criminally underrated.
You can't get any more "classic rock" than this song... well, a lot of their songs. Just feel-good songs, great guitar and voice harmonies. Brad Delp, the lead singer - what a powerful voice, just amazing!
🔥Foreplay/Longtime🔥
🌟Peace Of Mind
🌟Don't Look Back
🌟Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Boston is in my top 10 bands of all time!
I seen them in the winter of 1978 that's when music concerts were exactly what you see and more and this song was about a boy I cried and loved but I was just one of many Great concert and I enjoy your taking the time to enjoy my music keep on Rockin 🤘 love your love also I sold my soul for Rock and Roll PS I am 59 years old and still rocking out 🤘🤘🤘🤘💙💙💙💙🎄🎄🎄🎄
Probably the best debut album in rock!! Every song is great!
At one point every song of this debut album was being played on the radio.
Be sure to check the entire first album. You’ll love it all!!! I promise!!
Not sure if you know this but Boston was so good they named a city after them. My favorite song from them is Don't Look Back.
Yes mine too it just goes off and makes me feel so alive
This song is my favorite rock song of all time. Their debut album is the biggest selling rock album of all time.
i remember listening to this album on the tape player in my car about 30 years ago lol
Tape player?! Just kiddin! I know what you mean!
If there is such a thing as an "instant classic" this is an example.
Tom Scholz was the genius and Brad Delp had the pipes. Basically a two man band.
Thank you for playing my favorite song of all time. RIP Brad Delp.
"Amanda" is a sweet love song from Boston, but I love all their music. 🎶 🎵 🥰🔥❤
The smile on Asia's face says everything that needs to be said.
The band "Boston" came out in 1975. We teenagers all bought their album. I'm 58, grew up in the city of Boston.
Absolutely love Asia's facial reactions. It's like every ballad is being sung to her!
Gen X'er here. I LOVE your channel, and I forgot how much I loved this song! Hope y'all had a great Christmas!! More Boston, please!! :)
From a young boomer, 60 yesterday, Hi from Australia
Ok, now you've done it. Besides Journey you hit one of my other sweet spots. Can't go wrong with Boston. You could literally play every song off their first 3 albums and not find a dud. Tom Scholz, who was a M.I.T. grad and lead guitar for the band created the sound of the band Boston. He played every instrument and put the first album together in the studio in his basement. He would send the other band members to the label's studio while he was secretly working because he did not want the label to screw up his sound. Brad Delps vocals added are phenomenal. Their first album was considered by many as the best debut album in history. Just start with the first album and play the songs in order. My favorite by them is actually on their second album, "The Man I'll Never Be". BTW, Marianne was Tom Scholz's older cousin when he was about 9 and she was maybe 16. He had kind of a crush on her back then and was the inspiration for this song. Thanks and God Bless.
A little further... Tom Scholz also created the guitar effects processor called the "Rockman" that gave his guitar those spacey sounds.
Wait, Journey has more than one song!?
@@bobr4987 The Rockman is not a guitar effects processor. The Rockman is a guitar pre amp with on board effects that was intended to be used either in front of a traditional guitar amp, as a DI or as a headphone/practice amp. In addition, all of those "spacey sounds" are coming from what Tom calls the Hyperspace Pedal which is a modified Echoplex tape delay echo machine
On of the greatest singles/album tracks ever recorded. Sounds amazing on the radio.
Jaw dropping vocals. Utterly amazing
Asia and BJ, thank you for doing this one! More Than a Feeling is one of the six songs I would have to have on a deserted island, for survival. All good wishes. By the way, the song was written by the band leader, Tom Scholtz, and Maryanne was a real person, a cousin of his.
A band so great that they named a city after them.
My son says some songs transcend generations. We both LOVE ❤️ this one!
My all time favorite band! How have you never heard them before now??
That was written in a basement by an engineer, all music parts. . Check the story. Really amazing
Boston's first three albums are superb: Boston, Don't Look Back, and Third Stage! Please react to those! Thank you!
The Boston rabbit hole will uncover many songs you most likely have heard before. This, their debut album is one of the most successful albums [still] in history. Every song is a banger and recorded by one person and a vocalist in his basement. This is basically his demo tape that became the final cut with a Very slight tweek being the difference to appease the record executive.
The ENTIRE first album "BOSTON" every song was a radio hit. Greatest debut album of all time. Play any song from there - or the whole album!
Well "Higher Power", "Peace Of Mind", "Don't Look Back", "Cool The Engines", "Foreplay/Longtime" guaranteed you've heard part of this especially if you ever saw a Chicago Bulls game, "Feelin' Satisfied", "Amanda ", & "Rock & Roll Band".
Boston first album considered one of the best albums ever.. songs like “ peace of mind” foreplay long time” are other classics
Boston is great. Love this song.
Great album ...with the flying saucer on the jacket .....every song a keeper !!!....
regarded by many as.... the greatest debut albums ever produced
You need to listen to all of Boston songs. It will be a treat. Grew up with them and they have always been my favorite band
Over the years I've had this album on vinyl, 8-track, cassette and cd. Sounds just as good today as it did in the 70's Seeing the smile on Asia's face was pure gold. Love the channel. Keep up the great work.
Even at 60 it is still one of my favs...Great Pic Asia & BJ...Rock On! 🎸👍👍😎
RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest voices ever.
One of THE all time best rock records ever! Brad Delp such a great singer may his soul have found peace. Every song on this record is a hit.
This album is by FAR one of THE BEST and AMAZING albums to EVER be released! The ENTIRE album is hit after hit! Not one bad song on it.
I met Brad Delp when Boston came to the State University of New York in Plattsburgh, as I was a member of the Concert Committee. It was when they were doing the sound checks that they took a break and he came over and asked me how they sounded. First, I was tongue tied, could not get my words out, chuckling at the same time. Once I quickly got my composure, I told him that it was absolutely magical. He smiled, and then we just talked about life in general and what my plans were. I did say to him that the first time I heard him and the band, was when I was in the Canadian Navy, sailing off the coast of San Francisco, when I heard "More Than a Feeling" in the EW room, where we had a RACOL radio which intercepted radio signals from all over the world. I had the headphones at the time, totally quiet in the room, and just listened to the song, taking in the energy of this masterpiece. The five minutes I spent with him have always been at the top of my memories of an artist who departed too early in life. RIP Brad, I am sure you are singing with the angels around you. You are sorely missed.
Greatest debut band and album of all time Highly suggest if u are going on a trip take this with u, makes u feel good
You two are hitting all the greats today. One of those songs that when I listen to it, my neighbors listen to it as well. Great reaction, thanks!
Piece of Mind,Foreplay/Longtime and Hitch A Ride are a few u definitely should check out!! Grew up on Boston😊💝
Ah...one of the iconic songs of the 1970s that could be heard playing in many a Trans Am and Chevy Van back in the day. It brings back memories 🙂 Thank you for sharing your reaction 🎶
He's right, the production value of a Boston record was unparalleled. Multi-layered gorgeousness.
"Feelin' Satisfied" from 1978's 'Don't Look Back' was always, and always will be, a very favorite song from Boston for me....Just a great beat, and everything sounds perfect..(as it always does with Tom Scholz). It is Rock & Roll we need to keep going strong. .
Love Feelin satisfied
Don't look back is my favourite!
I challenge you to listen to "A Man I'll Never Be" without getting choked up, especially knowing that the singer (Brad Delp) killed himself. You can't just listen to one song. Don't Look Back, Foreplay/Long Time, Feeling Satisfied, well... literally anything from their 1st & 2nd albums...every song was a huge hit. I like their 3rd album, but not as much as the first 2. If you liked rock, you couldn't have lived in the 70s & 80s without loving them.
First album was legendary though not so much their second album which fell somewhat flat in comparison with one or 2 exceptions and that is by the large majority of rock fans and critics!
And "Heaven on Earth"...and "Hitch a Ride"...and "Higher Power"...and....
@@joelliebler5690 Second album was rushed by the music company. It could have been so much more.
Still, to this day. One of the best selling debut albums ever, recorded
You know an album is a classic when a song like, "Hitch a Ride" (the one you should do next) is considered the 4th or 5th best when it would be the biggest hit on 95% of other albums.
Excellent point. The dueling guitar solo is one of the best ever done even if it is Tom Schultz on both guitars.
Boston's drummer Sib Hashian has a daughter named Lauren Hashian who is now married to Dewayne "the rock" Johnson.
Far out, didn't know that.
You two should be incredibly grateful of the honor of hearing a song of such importance.
This is from BOSTON`s first debut album. Recorded in the guitar players basement, it is the highest grossing album of all time. It sold over one million copies in one month! To date, it has sold over a billion copies world wide! No band has ever sold that many albums. Boston took off like a rocket and is still selling Albums.
You won't find a bad song on Boston's first two albums. They are Tom Scholz' masterpiece works.
Their other songs: Don't Look Back, A Man I'll Never Be, Foreplay/Long Time, Amanda, Party, Rock And Roll Band, Something About You, Peace Of Mind, Hitch A Ride, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, Smokin, Feelin' Satisfied, and others. This is a great classic from them. This was the first song of theirs that I've heard.
Great, great band. One of those bands whose very first album is a masterpiece- not a bad song on it. Huge radio hits off this album.
Boston Rocks! Keep exploring them.
My brother had the 8 track tape. If we wanted to listen to Boston,we had to go sit in his truck and listen to Boston. He did not allow that particular 8 track leave his truck.
When I was mad at my parents as a teen, I would always play this album. Always made my mood better!
My all time favorite band. How have you never heard them???
This is one of those rare albums, especially for a debut album, where EVERY song on the album was a hit and got radio airplay. Every. Single. Song. Monster album.
Bostons’s debut album was the greatest record in history. Every song was a number 1 hit!
I remember my stepsister had this LP, and I heard her play this song and I just stared at the cover. I thought it was so cool. Even as a little kid, I was amazed how awesome it sounded. Now, knowing every note and detail of this song so many years later, it still brings that same emotion. Great album top to bottom. One of the best lead vocalists too. R.I.P. Brad Delp.
The first two Boston albums were fantastic, "Foreplay/Long Time" (two songs that run together and should be listened to together), Smokin', Rock and Roll Band, A Man I'll Never Be, Peace of Mind," Hitch a Ride, Something About You, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, Don't Look Back.
I have lived in the city of Boston for over 35 years and this music has a special place for me. Some interesting facts.... The entire first album was written by guitarist, MIT grad and mastermind Tom Sholz in the basement of his home. He played all instruments except drums and vocals. Vocals were provided by the late, great Brad Delp.
I think smells and sound provide the most memories. When you experience a particular smell or sound it can bring us back to a moment in time or place whether it was yesterday or decades ago.
I think hearing a particular song would be on the top of most people's list of what takes them back.
Brad Delp has one of the greatest voices in rock. #RIP
RIP Brad Delp. Just flawless vocals. Golden Pipes
Loved seeing Asia enjoy this! Every song is a banger. "Foreplay/Long Time" and "Peace of Mind" are the best, IMHO.
Boston's first album. It was recorded in Tom Scholz' basement...before the band had a name or a record contract. For the vocals, Tom brought in his friend Brad Delp. They submitted what they recorded in Tom's basement as their "demo tape." And that's what you're hearing: No professional "studio recording" was ever made.
Very cool to see you both get into one of the best rock songs of all time. I love introducing my younger friends to classic rock and amazing musicians. Brad Delp's voice is incomparable.
This entire album is a banger. BTW, the spaceships on the album cover are actually an upside-down guitar. Now that you've broken the seal, you need to go all the way. This entire album was created by an MIT engineer in his basement.
Check out all of Boston's debut album, it's a classic. Every cut is worth a listen.
The greatest debut album ever! In fact, after engineering it in his basement Brad had to go put a band together so they could tour it. Hence, "The album in search of a band!".
Love this band so much! Foreplay/longtime and peace of mind are my favs!
BOSTON! Great albums. 3rd stage is an incredible album. It took 6 years to produce and no synthesizers used. The entire album is an incredible journey.
This is one of those Songs/Albums that takes me back. I was in high school when this came out. We would leave at lunch and go to a beautiful wooded area and party and play this. Always nostalgic for me. Still amazing today.
The all time great "turn it up loud" song!
This song is super special to me with my dad. I grew up on 80s rock but early one morning before we went hunting we sang this in the truck and I shot my first buck and everytime after that ❤
Asia recognizing the chorus was too cute. Boston was one of my favorite bands growing up.
Whole album is great not one bad song as Joe just said. More Boston please. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful song with us all. 😎
One of best rock bands of all time ! Love them and the second one of their songs come on , you know right away who it is !! Great reaction as usual! Their whole catalog is so great ! Let name some of their biggest , smokin , don’t look back , Amanda , cool the engines , rock n roll band just to name a few
Dude, I’m 22 in the US Army in Germany married to this beautiful lady when I loved this song. Lol. I’m 70 now. Lol
Absolutely too many good songs! This is quintessential guitar Jammin rock ‘n’ roll. So ahead of its time obviously done by a genius, Tom Scholz and Brad Delp was amazing! We need more.
