I had one (had 2-month marriage 22 years ago, saw now & then) who went off the rails after 55. Quite alarming. Was handsome with a big laugh. Abhorred sex, and fasted a lot. (Weird.) Was always secretive, then morphed into extreme lying, stealing (especially phone chargers!), mooching. Had a telephone obsession. Biggest change, he started yelling and screaming! One day, he stopped by, claiming he’d left something in my new truck, which he then stole for seven hours. Buh-Bye!
“If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.” I think the women he scammed were vulnerable and therefore fell for it. Usually, these type of men are quite obvious- they have very impressive stories to tell, do not invite partners to their homes, are exceedingly charming, etc…If it wasn’t for their vulnerabilities they would probably spot the inconsistencies, red flags, and shallowness. As you perfectly said Dr. Grande- “they needed to believe in the fantasy.” Thank you for covering another interesting case, Dr. Grande.❤️
@@chrisyanover1777 well there’s a huge difference between a guy who has, let’s say a few different girls that he’s basically using for sex, and this guy. Being a player is usually about relationships and sex, and in the end hearts are broken. THIS is not being a “playa” . This guy straight up stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from his victims. That’s called being a con man. Don’t get it twisted. To put it in a different context, if you gave me $10k for a used car, but then don’t get the car…. Would you not hate on me? Because hey I won the game we were playin’… didn’t you say “don’t hate that playa?”…. Fuck no, you hunt my ass down, because you either want your money back or the car. You’d sue me. Always watch out for "love bombing" at the start of a romantic relationship. It may not end in a way as wild as this case, but I can almost guarantee it won't end well. If a person is coming on very strong, declaring love and admiration for you (when they barely know you), making romantic suggestions about your future together, I recommend being very weary of that person. Remind yourself to take things slowly, you don't have to be moving in together immediately. Before moving in together, really consider sitting down and discussing a few things. 1. finances and budget (what will your combined life expenses be and who is going to cover those expenses.) 2. kids and pets (who has them already, who wants them or wants to have more and if it is a dealbreaker if the other doesn't feel the same way). 3. Household upkeep/chores. As a woman, I wanna express how important this one is, and yet is the topic that I bet is most likely not to be discussed. I believe that a lot of people still have preconceived notions about which chores are assigned to which gender (and I'm speaking in very cisgender-hetro terms for simplicity's sake, not because I don't think all genders are valid). This discussion is important for so many reasons, and it's an added bonus that most people who are love bombing will not want to take part in this type of convo in any way that is actual meaningful and logical, so it'll expose them pretty quickly. Lastly, I recommend not moving in with someone until you've had an opportunity to see how they handle anger. Some people can come across as very calm and laid back until they are really pissed off, and then they become a different person completely. TD; DR - don't rush things in a relationship. you have time so use it.
Love bombing is a red flag for a lot of bad behaviors. Controlling and violent people like to start relationships this way. They usually ends up turning to physical abuse when you "betray" them after "all they have done". (Betrayal could be forgetting the grilled onions for their burger.)
Not necessarily, some people just fall in love/get attached really easily. Surely everyone's been involved in at least one passionate love affair with someone they just met. Also, people who have just left a relationship tend to be very desperate to bounce into another, so it's not always nefarious. Also of course, many just want to start sex as quickly as possible rather than a multi-month wooing period.
Love bombing is the beginning of a narcissist, quintessential tactic for them. Again, if it’s too good to be true, it usually is. Always my motto, unfortunately I fell victim to an abusive narcissist cause I was in a bad spot in my life and perfect prey for him.
@@elizabethcarder5247 I agree. It's hard for me to say exactly what it'll lead to in every circumstance. And like I said, it may not lead to something as crazy as being scammed for 10s of thousands of dollars by a man with 37 aliases, but it definitely won't lead somewhere good.

I knew a woman con artist who exploited her attractiveness and intelligence. One of her standard tricks was to appear to fall in love and appear to get into a serious relationship. Guys found her easy to fall in love with. She would move in, then she would exploit her insider status to take advantage in various ways, and to steal from her victims, including money and jewelry. She was definitely playing on her victims' desire for a romantic partner. She was very aware of the vulnerabilities and gullibilities that resulted from this strong desire for a real relationship. Finding a mate is a primal animal and human drive. And it clouds people's perceptions. The con artist in the video seemed to have a similar understanding and modus operandi.
When I was younger I was a male stripper and knew a guy who woman would give anything too. The woman would be married and would cash out their husband's savings accounts to give to this male stripper and then act all upset when they got con'd but couldn't say anything because they were cheating on their husband with a male stripper!
He sounds very sophisticated, that airlines trick would have fooled anyone. That phone trick (where he was talking to an someone related to his fictionalized positions) would have fooled anyone. What a different lifestyle. Thank you for the video.
he was very good as a con-man but he was always was one step ahead of the cops. he got a lot of money but ended up in jail for 24 years, a very long time.

I come from a very proud family of lots of military and law enforcement. I understand not really trusting cops! But, I get so upset about stolen valor. It’s the scabbiest, and the most insulting thing you could ever do to disabled vets, or anyone else who offered up their lives for our country.
I have been driving tractor-trailer over the road for the last 30 years, and i have literally run across thousands of phony navy seals, delta force operators, green berets, marine recon & raider special operatives, army airborne rangers, and air force fighter pilots in truck stops & diners. I never seem to run into navy cooks, army stock clerks, marine drill sergeants, and air force ground crews. And Retired Navy Seal, Don Shipley has the database for everyone that was a navy seal/ udt going back to 1943 and it's amazing how many phony navy seals that he exposes as frauds. Most of them can't get by his 1st question of: "What number was your Buds training class & what year did you graduate from Buds Training. And he asks them to name some of the men that graduated from their Buds-Training class.
It’s always interesting that Stolen Valor is said to be an infringement on the freedom of speech, yet if you impersonate a firefighter or a cop it’s a crime…. As a vet myself, it’s pretty damn frustrating that people care about everyone else BUT us in this situation.

Wow. This guy was a trip. To live a constant double life must take skill. To think he operated the way he did for years let’s us realize, he abused his power but is now paying for it now.
Hi Dr. Grande I attended the trial of Brock Turner. Thank goodness I was a spectator only and I had no direct involvement with either party. Although this was years ago the experience stayed with me and my thoughts often return to it. My impression is that what happened that night on the Stanford Campus was a disastrous encounter between two habitual drunks. As for Turner himself I was unimpressed. To put it mildly, he didn’t conduct himself as a scholar and a gentleman I’m familiar with the location of the offense and, not withstanding what the prosecution said, it didn’t happen behind a dumpster. Brock committed his crime right out in the open where anyone could, and did, amble along and discover him in the act. That always baffled me. Turner seemed genuinely surprised that others would find his actions objectionable. Why was that? At the sentencing hearing I was seated only twelve feet away from Turner’s father when he made the now infamous “twenty minutes of action” statement. I understood the point he was trying to make, that no one should be judged solely by the worst moment of their life, but father Turner’s way of saying it was beyond insensitive. Above all I was baffled that Brock didn’t do the one thing that might have mitigated a small amount of the damage he had caused. Why didn’t he simply make an apology? He expressed remorse for being drunk but not for what followed. Would you do an analysis of this? Thank you.
A total narcissist! Some of them are so sick that they may have rape abuse tendencies but certainly take advantage of people for their grandiose lack of empathy and irresponsibility! I think that kid is a psychopath! Narcissists are compulsive liars and lack all empathy! Shallow affect is a trait too! I had a narcissist BF who took advantage of me by lies and a con to get sex from me even though I wanted to wait until mutual love. It’s not the last we will hear from that Brock Turner psychopath!!!
I'm curious about the psychological traits of people who fall for con artists. Anyone could briefly fall for a gifted con artists, but con artists must pray on people with specific psychological profiles. Is there any overlap with the victims of cult leaders?
Good evening Doc. No disrespect to this current video. But have you ever done an analysis on Ronald DeFeo Jr? The gentleman who killed his entire family in Amityville New York?
My ex-husband lied about being a military veteran and since my father died in Vietnam that was really disturbing to me. Landed people hired narcissistic traits do this all the time
Just out of curiosity, how did your ex-husband fool you into believing he was a veteran of the military? Also what does "landed people hire narcissistic traits do this all the time"?

I know branding is barbaric, but serial conmen should have a huge tattoo on their forehead as a warning people of his behaviour. The damage they do goes far beyond the financial and is long lasting for the victims.
Dear Dr Grande what a interesting episode. - it proves that it’s important to take your time before trusting. Around one year of observing allows you to get a good sense of what brand of volunteer you are looking at. Clearly a prison brand is not desirable. A tricky situation is when a person you trust introduces you to person who is really a criminal. But they guarantee how marvellous trustworthy and exceptional that person is. In doing so they become a co-conspiritor.
Hello Dr. Grande, this was a very interesting case. He was unfortunately a very smart person to trick all the people he met during his crimes. He knew how to manipulate his victims, very scary individuals those are my thoughts on this case. Thank you for sharing. ❤👍

I'm pretty sure I saw this guy smoke crack in the Tenderloin in San Francisco. It was 2013, I was at a laundromat and a guy, who looked just like this guy, walked up to group of houseless people & smoked crack with them, then walked off. He was wearing a suit & everything. It wasn't that much of a shock, considering how close the financial district was from the TL, which is a severe socioeconomically-disparaged area. You'll see all kinds of things there, but that memory always stuck with me.
@@chrisyanover1777 Crack smoking is so common in the TL, that you can literally buy crack pipes in bodegas within the TL & off Market St (the major through line of downtown SF). Meth isn't really smoked out in the open like crack is either, because most meth addicts prefer to be indoors. Unfortunately, you live in a really big city long enough, you'll begin to recognize what each drug smells like too. In this case, I didn't smell it, but it was very clearly a crack pipe.
Hey there Dr. Grande---Sooooo...totally off the subject at hand (another excellent analysis btw), but I've just rewatched a very interesting series called "Ancients Behaving Badly", produced by the History Channel. The premise is that the show psychoanalizes famous historical figures such as Caligula, Genghis Khan and Alexander The Great. Its a flashier and fluffier of what you do when analyzing and speculating on their possible mental disorders "in a situation like this". How it's done is of course going through the standard research and they discuss: personal life such as childhood, family history, life events that were significant in their lives and impacted them in some way, things and decisions they've made, etc.. Then at the end of the show, they bring up what they call the "Ancients Behaving Badly Psychograph." The y-axis rates them from "goal driven killer" to "psychopathic murderer", while the x-axis measures individual pathologies. Now, I'm not sure if this is a legit or credible scale, since it doesn't seem like a reputable psychology board or peer-reviewed articles have ever mentioned such a scale, let alone create it. It seems the History Channel or someone producing the series came up with this. Not sure how accurate it is, but its fascinating. Anyway, I addressed this to you because I'm curious if you've ever heard of this series or have seen it? If not, check it out! I'd LOVE to have your opinion and analysis on this series, and it would be cool if YOU actually expressed your speculations on historical figures. I would also be stoked if you could talk about this so-called "psychograph" and whether it's a legit tool for the purpose of psychoanalysis of historical figures. TL;DR: I've watched a show about ancient historical figures being psychoanalyzed by their own scale, and I'm hoping you'd check this out. To Everyone in the comments: Could you all like this comment so Dr. Grande can see this? Thanks!
Sounds like a good series. I'm definitely going to look for it. Oh, and Dr.Grande reads all the comments. I know this for sure! He's very attentive to his audience. 👍

I get suspicious if anyone asks me for 50 bucks. No way could someone scam me out of more than a couple hundred dollars but you would have to be family.
It's amazing how many people are prepared to lend their "friends" hundred's of thousands of dollars with no true understanding of what the money is going to be spent on. No capacity for bullshit detection I guess. But I'd like to think I'd spot this pile of slime from 100 miles away. People like him make my skin crawl almost immediately. Confidence doesn't impress me. He certainly has some clever tricks but none of that changes the fact that here is a supposedly successful and powerful person asking for large amounts of money from people he hasn't known very long. That should really tip someone off or at the very least, get them asking some pertinent questions.
Give the girls a break, in my family having a husband is not optional. No single friends , if you’re an adult you get married. My mom introduced murderer Rory Thompson to her best friend Maureen and pushed her to marry him. He killed Maureen and my mom insisted that the relatives wanted to forgive him to distract us from the fact that Maureen would be alive today if not for my mom. At least all they lost was money. Good show, Doc. Thank you.

I enjoy watching all of your videos Dr Grande, they very informative and straight to the point. I would like to see you cover the unsolved case of Elizabeth Barraza who was executed in her own front yard and this horrific murder recorded on CCTV.
I know two women who fell for male con artists. One got involved with a man nearly 30 years her junior from Morocco. He was part of an elaborate scam. She met the guy online. Then she flew to his country to visit him and he wooed her with sex and romance. Every year he flies back home for ostensibly religious reasons but I wonder if its not to visit his wife and children which is often the case. He eventually persuaded her to move him into her house. She cooks for him, does his laundry, she helped him to obtain citizenship and for a long time he lived rent-free. Last time I heard he was trying to convince her to put the house in his name. I once asked her why would a young observant Muslim man want to be involved with a Christian woman in her 60's who can't give him any children? No answer. She and my other friend fit the profile for the type of woman that falls prey to con artists: older, educated, disabled, overweight, low self-esteem, and divorced. They also both think of themselves as very street smart which is quite ironic.
At what point to the cops get involved. Anytime I've had something stolen from me they tell me it's a civil matter. I have had to make them write up a report. They never followed up on it.
I would imagine that's even more common. There have been a few cases like this that have been brought to the public's attention. A lot of people have been tricked into giving and/or loaning money to people they have never met in person. It's honestly shocking how much money some of these people (mostly women around retirement age) are conned out of before they ever suspect something is amiss
It's really not that hard to pick out these types. Just listen to how they request funds to extract in time. Usually it's not that long. They are smart enough generally to attempt and build 'trust'. They might even 'give' a little or present the appearance of it. But they will always ask not too far into it.
I want to know why would you give a personal loan of hundreds of thousands of dollars to a friend without collateral? If they need that type of money, they need to go to a bank. If they can’t go to a bank then they are not worth the risk. If a bank is not willing to risk their money with that person, neither should you. Some people have more money than brains.
There have literally been thousands of lonely old women that have been catfished out of their life savings/investments by Nigerian Hucksters who are usually young men between 14-21.
I’ve considered volunteering for prison. Sure beats working for a meager living, I would have free room and board, free health care, and maybe even get to finish college.
Wait! What about the best part of this case? Many of his victims banded together to bring him down! A large group of his victims were in contact and 12 of them showed up to give victim statements. These intelligent, vulnerable women worked together and succeeded in putting him in jail! Of it weren’t for them, he’d probably still be out there.

There is a lot of judgement and victim blaming/shaming in the comments. Many of the victims were highly intelligent and accomplished, and yet they were vulnerable and conned. Grande- “they needed to believe in the fantasy.”

Don't hate the player, hate the game! Players gona play!
Maybe kick my ass, but you sure as hell wouldn’t just let it go like we were playing some game

Couldn't agree more.

Wow. This guy was a trip. To live a constant double life must take skill. To think he operated the way he did for years let’s us realize, he abused his power but is now paying for it now.
Hi Dr. Grande
I attended the trial of Brock Turner. To put it mildly, he didn’t conduct himself as a scholar and a gentleman
I’m familiar with the location of the offense and, not withstanding what the prosecution said, it didn’t happen behind a dumpster.
Checking in to give you some kudos Doc. You are entertaining, insightful, and often calming, oddly. Peace, regards. VG

I know branding is barbaric, but serial conmen should have a huge tattoo on their forehead as a warning people of his behaviour. The damage they do goes far beyond the financial and is long lasting for the victims.
They should do the same for sex offenders, child abusers and murderers.

That could so easily be a great scene in a movie
He probably mootched the crack off them, too, and didn't add value to the party.

How was the crack in that neighborhood? Do you recommend it or was it cut to much? I'm curious you thought of the crack?

Thanks!

Imagine if there are scammers like this that you meet online and never see them in real life? I bet both men and women are falling for it right now.

Hey Dr Grande.

🤣👌
I watched this case on Dateline, it's still crazy 😳. The lies that these clowns tell regarding employment are always SO grandiose - very telling 😐🤡🤦🏾♀️
There is a lot of judgement and victim blaming/shaming in the comments. Many of the victims were highly intelligent and accomplished, and yet they were vulnerable and conned. Wanting a special someone and needing love and affection is human. Possibly they were too trusting and naive, as many kind, compassionate, and empathetic individuals tend to be. They are not wrong. The world in its current state is. If you have never been duped, be grateful, and be careful. Interesting case, good video.
Great comment!
As his last victim that helped take him down, I greatly appreciate your comment.
Ladies, if he wants to move in or marry you after less than 1,5 to 2 years… then run! (Let alone after a few WEEKS!) And always look them up on social media. Yes. ALWAYS. As for giving them money, buying them expensive gifts, and ‘saving them from bad people who would beat them up’ or some such drama…. Don’t be so darn stupid!!! As for the secret agents, generals/admirals/astronauts/fighter pilots - seriously! Unless you already lived on a base, hung out regularly at a bar patronised by veterans or next door to NASA… don’t be so darn stupid!
Wow! sounds like my EX- lost a home!
Ahhaha the volunteer prisoner program lol!!! I feel like theres alot to learn from this case! One of those being healthy boundaries… would that have help prevent some of this?
Stolen Valor Romance scammer, is the title of my mid 2000's emo album.
He was just volunteering - I laughed both times at that joke 😆👌
Cindy James case? It's fascinating.
We had a woman a few streets over that met someone online and she was all into it. Next thing you know they were going to get married. Say WHAT ! ! For whatever reason she started sending the guy money...BUT...here at home she was packing up boxes in every room getting ready to get married and move. All she had was a picture of him, she never sent one to him (if you saw her you would know why). Come to find out at bingo, she met a lady talking about how she had met this guy online blah blah, and she pulled out his picture. WHAM...same guy ! ! Did she wake up ? Nope. "Well that was before he met me" she said. I could not help myself and said "This guy has never ever even seen a picture of your dumb ass ". She got took, then all the boo-hoo to every neighbor within a 5 mile radius. Nobody felt sorry for her at all. Did she learn anything ? Nope...right back online she went.
Man o man that psychopathy list was long for this dude
