Noone eats plain pasta. Its always consumed with oil, cheese or fatty sauces. So white flour pasta won't spike blood sugar levels as high as we think it would.
Thank you both for your video. I’ve learned to read labels on everything I bought. All these years I’ve eaten and fed my children were wrong... Your sessions worth more than my college degree. Very educational.
I've always made my own sauce It takes any where from 10 mins for a simply recipe to 4 hrs for a more complex sauce. Use canned tomatoes with little or no sugar .U can make it sweet if U want use a carrot when U cook it down. And the cost is very little even using top grade canned tomatoes. In the summer I make it fresh get any kind of tomatoes at ur local farm put them in a blender with parsley, olive oil and a peeled clove of garlic . That's it no cooking at all and it will freeze nice.
I’m Greek and Italian and therefore a pasta purist. The best tasting pasta is the Organic 365 from Whole Foods. I’ve tried the Banza, not bad really, but when it comes to texture and flavor you can’t beat the good stuff from WF. I only eat pasta about twice a month, so. I’m not worried about lack of nutrition, I’m filling my sauce with veg and beans so it doesn’t matter to me.
365 taste like ass when it comes to sauce mutti is way better U.S. store sauce. I really doubt your Italian if you say that best store sauce. Muraca di pomododoro is best store to make a sauce.
You have certainly opened my eyes as to the sugar content with Ragu, Classic, and others. Little by little I'm going to work my way back into using only my own sauce (which I have done in the past). It was just too convenient and cheap to use the others--not realizing how bad they are.

Being in Chicago he has many places to shop. When you live in a small town and all you have is a small walmart without much choice as the only place to shop for groceries oh, an a small Aldi. I grew up in family where we only used homemade sauce. As I got older, I wanted to try store bought in jars to make things easier. I tried many of them, maybe 15 or so. The only one that tasted like homemade was the Victoria brand in marinara. I highly recommend that brand, especially if you are Italian and grew up eating homemade only.
Why did you skip the Jovial pasta? I use jovial and their ingredients are organic brown rice & water. That’s it. The texture of their pasta when cooked is fantastic even my 6 year can’t tell the difference. Also I highly recommend the Mezzetta brand pasta sauces. Clear ingredient list. Not always organic but they use premium ingredients like extra virgin olive oil. And they are sugar free. Really like your videos Bobby. Thank you
I swear by Rao's these days. That is my go-to brand, and they have a lot of options to choose from. Their arrabiata sauce is good for people who like some spice. I've tried both, and my favorite is the traditional marinara.
So I’ve heard you hit on several ingredients in several videos to stay away from. Can you do a video of major no no ingredients to steer clear of when grocery shopping altogether? Like carrageenan, soy bean oil, etc. I’d love an all in one video. I never realized how much sugar is in Ragu! Crazy!

Thanks for this! I never thought to read ingredients on jar sauces, I was blissfully unaware. I bought sauce last night and made a educated choice for me and my family !
I feel like I get a lot of good information but I also feel that the good stuff is always expensive. Whole Foods isn't somewhere someone on a budget goes to shop.
Scotty Haines I agree. Whole Foods is overpriced. Ginger is $8.99/lb vs. $1.99/lb at my local grocery story. Insane. No thank you. I’ll stick to ALDI and Trader Joe’s.
Of the legumes, such as lentils and chickpeas, only soybeans provide all nine essential amino acids. In order to obtain complete protein, another food source, such as a whole grain, must be added. That is why many cultures have dishes such as beans and rice as a fixture of their cuisines. This is particularly important for those who follow a vegan diet.
Agreed with the other comments: RAO's is the best pasta sauce by far. I don't like Cucina Antica at all actually, bought it when it was on sale at Whole Foods to try but it's a watery pasta (tried both the tomato basil and the marinara.) Turns out, they use tomato puree. Here is their full list of ingredients: imported Italian San Marzano tomatoes, tomatoes (tomatoes, tomato puree, salt), onions, extra virgin olive oil, salt, basil, white pepper, black pepper. The puree hidden in there, so it's a bit deceptive.
I think you’re missing the real purpose of the channel. It’s not about what exactly what to buy and not to buy. It’s about understanding labels and ingredients, and making the best choice available in your area and within your budget.
It's nice to see a video where there used to be full shelves of food. Now the only pasta sauces you can find on the shelves are the really expensive ones. It's interesting to see that some of the labels of the ones you liked at Walmart were made in Italy. I'm definitely going to look for those. I wish we had a Whole Foods where I lived, I'd love to try some of those too.
Make your own. It costs only a few cents per jar. Buy a bushel of plum tomatoes grind them in a tomato mill and cook them down and jar them. Add a sprig of basil. We get a few families together and spend a Saturday together making sauce. Best sauce you will ever eat and versatile to use in lots of dishes
my mom grew up poor on a farm during the depression. When I was a kid in the early 60,s when Mom got something special just for her at the grocery she would get pickled pigs feet and green olives. They were both her favorites. Yes, you eat pickled pigs feet from the jar, and no, I never tried it. Love you videos.
Calcium chloride is used to preserve texture and color.. it is used in cheese to help it set a better curd...Mostly in pasteurized milk and goat milk( to help restore the calcium)..And sometimes in raw if it is more than a few days old
He actually pronounced it correctly. The brand's name is cucina (Italian) not cocina (Spanish). I'm native in Spanish and fluent in Italian. The one he actually got wrong was "bolognese" because he cut the last "e".
Pig feet is used in some Mexican cuisine. Pozole, guisado, or just pickled in vinegar then eaten with salsa and lime. Texture/taste is not my favorite, but as a child I grew up eating it with my grandparents in the countryside. When a pig was killed for food, every part was used someway. Just for those that were curious
I’m Sicilian. Very rarely buy jarred sauce, I make my own. cannedSan Marzano tomatoes (I buy @ Caputo’s, Bobby you probably heard of that store??), olive oil , garlic, a little fresh basil. On Sundays we always add pork neck bones for a special sauce.
Those red lentil pasta alternatives are a total life changer and fairly cheap but man it is disappointing that the healthier alternatives for sauce are so absurdly expensive. That Rao's sauce tastes godlike and is ultra healthy minus a tiny bit of added sugar, but man it's expensive.
i make my own pasta sauce from scratch olive oil onions garlic can of crushed tomatoes ground beef tomato paste beef stock but as per your advice i am throwing out veg oil unbleached flour and replace with avocado oil and organic flour
Would have loved to hear your opinion of Paul Newman's brand they have red and white sauces. And don't forget many can't afford Whole Foods and don't shop there, so hopefully you will fully look through the options to present to us from say a Walmart. All of your hard work is appreciated Guys!.
@@Wherestheredwave not sure what youre referring too. I'm talking about the number actual products reviewed in Walmart. How many sauces diid he review? Did he cover Newman's? If so, I missed it.
@@Wherestheredwave believe meI understand AND pay attention. More than you probably do. Ive been doing this (improving my food choices) for a LONG time. Bobby is the one saying he's covering everything. I love Bobby, but that review was more of a commercial for $6 a bottle Roa's versus a GOOD look at what is on the shelves at Walmart. If that was the first video youve ever watched of Bobby's it wasnt as thorough. Its my opinion thanks.so much, so no further commentary is necessary. I complement Bobby all the time. If I see something kind of lacking I may comment on that as well.
C. Ann thanks for your time and careful attention. I have seen many of Bobby’s videos and he provides so much information you can really make your own decisions after watching.
I skip the prepared marinara and use no salt added tomato sauce with my own ingredients and spices. That way I can skip the dreadful sodium levels as well!
Yes, you eat the pigs feet/knuckles right out of the jar. unlike pickled tripe, which you cook, if you can stand the smell...but is delicious if you can find it.
⛔ KETO Pasta??? I was hoping to get at least one option to try.😕 Loveeeee your channel. I've learned a lot from you and recommended your channel to friends and family. Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
Another thing about GMOs...the flour used in pasta is GMO based if it's made in the US a lot of the time (like the common Barilla in the blue box). Imported stuff from Italy (like DeCecco) doesn't. My mom, who has an acquired gluten sensitivity, doesn't experience the same reaction from DeCecco pasta as from domestically produced stuff.
Victoria is by far the best and it's only $5.48 at Walmart. So yes, Walmart does have an excellent sauce since it carries Victoria and RAOs with have very few but natural ingredients.
Bobby & Art...I love Roland organic Lo main noodles...ingredients organic wheat flour and salt. am I on the right track? in sauces I like Mezzetta napa valley homemade...ingredients California plum tomatoes, imported olive oil, fresh onions, roasted garlic, fresh basil, sea salt, spices.
Cucina is amazing! Love the tomato basil. IMO it tastes less acidic than Raos, and overall has a better flavor. Also love the edamame pasta. Both are a really great occasional treat!
For over 40 years my dad had worked in a Italian Deli type shop where he made their own special sauce. Every couple weeks he would make a large container of Italian sauce for many different dishes. At Christmas he would spend time at home making Meatballs using the same sauce. All our relatives couldn't wait to sit at dinner enoying his meatballs as a side dish with a large Ham he would bake! He passed away 5 years ago and we all tried to make he same sauce but not the same. Last year we purchased the RAO sauce. It tasted great but contained too much water. I later found out RAO was purchased by Campbells Soup and the sauce was not the same. Last week a older lady said she had the same problem and was told to try Mutti Sauce. To my suprise it was fantastic .but needs a little more zest. We bought some Puree and added some Parsley and it's now how favorite, close to my dad's but still not the same!
Anyone who wants a cheap pasta sauce, Ragu Simply is great. Simple ingredients: Tomato purée, olive oil, salt, onions, carrots, dehydrated onions, garlic powder, onion powder, spices. No added sugar, no natural flavors, no bad oils, just olive oil. Also non GMO. $1.48 at Walmart where I live, best price ever!
I grew up with authentic southern Italian cooking 24/7, and I can tell you right now that any serious follower of the Mediterranean diet does not eat pasta made from beans and lentils, and very rarely eats whole wheat pasta. The pasta was always imported from Italy made of Durham semolina wheat, without additives, and it was a rich golden color. It was absolutely delicious, and the sauce was always homemade, either from garden tomatoes which were especially grown for this purpose or from certain brands of canned plum tomatoes. I have pasta around two or three times a month and I would never dream of substituting one of these other pastas for regular Italian pasta, unless I was wheat intolerant. Any Italian will tell you that they count on their nourishment from all of their meats, cheeses, and multitude of vegetables and fruits that are also served with the meal.
Just tried Raos marinara sauce tonight- seriously elevated my lil heat up eggplant 🍆 parm & Aldis lasagna rolls to premium Italian restaurant level- not even kidding, its AWESOME 👍

Please address the amount Ot salt(sodium) husband has heart failure and should eat no more than 2000 mg per day (1tsp)
Did you hear me screaming at you to look at the Newman's own organic sauce at Walmart?. I was just wondering 🤗
Yes, me too! I saw that the Newman's own said no sugar added so I wish he would have looked at the ingredients.
Love newmans'and, gives to charities
I think you’re missing the real purpose of the channel. It’s not about what exactly what to buy and not to buy. It’s about understanding labels and ingredients, and making the best choice available in your area and within your budget.
Rao was just purchased by Campbell Soup so make sure to check the ingredients for changes
So read the labels!! Love that Tighten Up was playing in the background at the end of the video!
Out of all of the pastas, which one taste the best? Thank you for all of this info. Really helpful.
First time viewer and this is a real eye opener👀 thanks so much for all of this awesome info ✌🏻❤️ will be reading more food label’s from now on
No filler, All thriller. Make that into a shirt! I'll take 10%😂
Calcium chloride is used to preserve texture and color.. it is used in cheese to help it set a better curd...Mostly in pasteurized milk and goat milk( to help restore the calcium)..And sometimes in raw if it is more than a few days old
Bobby pronouncing “Cocina” like “cochina” had me cracking up! My mom was like, WHAT did he call that sauce 😂😂
He actually pronounced it correctly. The brand's name is cucina (Italian) not cocina (Spanish). I'm native in Spanish and fluent in Italian. The one he actually got wrong was "bolognese" because he cut the last "e".
As of today, 12/06, Sprouts has Rao's ( the best in my opinion ) on sale for $5.00 off a jar. I bought 10. The less sensitive kind is lower in sodium.
There's just something about Art. 😊
🥰
Pig feet is used in some Mexican cuisine. Pozole, guisado, or just pickled in vinegar then eaten with salsa and lime. Texture/taste is not my favorite, but as a child I grew up eating it with my grandparents in the countryside. When a pig was killed for food, every part was used someway. Just for those that were curious
can you do a review on swisher sweet blunt wraps
Lmfao
^this. Swisher vs white owl...Grape vs Peach....We need to know which is Bobby Approved
What pasta do you recommend at Trader Joe’s?
Samantha Anderson @3:09
You can make pasta sauce in about a minute with the san marzana tomatoes and spices in your blender or processor.
Good to hear you mention sulphates. I ended up really poorly and i linked it to sulphates. No more dates for me. Thank you 😊
whole foods? you mean, whole paycheck.
Actually Whole Foods prices aren’t that bad anymore
😂😂😂😂😂
True
Those red lentil pasta alternatives are a total life changer and fairly cheap but man it is disappointing that the healthier alternatives for sauce are so absurdly expensive. That Rao's sauce tastes godlike and is ultra healthy minus a tiny bit of added sugar, but man it's expensive.
But it’s an investment for your health. Keep that in mind!
Sugar is used to cut acidity in the sauce or baking soda works also depends on the quality of the tomato,
Do you prefer the Primal Kitchen Alfredo over Rao's?
i make my own pasta sauce from scratch olive oil onions garlic can of crushed tomatoes ground beef tomato paste beef stock but as per your advice i am throwing out veg oil unbleached flour and replace with avocado oil and organic flour
Would have loved to hear your opinion of Paul Newman's brand they have red and white sauces.
And don't forget many can't afford Whole Foods and don't shop there, so hopefully you will fully look through the options to present to us from say a Walmart. All of your hard work is appreciated Guys!.
C. Ann Bobby has done most of the grocery stores including Walmart, Aldi, Sam’s and Costco
@@Wherestheredwave not sure what youre referring too. I'm talking about the number actual products reviewed in Walmart. How many sauces diid he review? Did he cover Newman's? If so, I missed it.
C. Ann I don’t remember, but Bobby gives enough information if you’re paying attention you can look at a label and make an educated decision
I'm so glad you included some of the white sauces. I'm definitely going to look for Raos. Thank you for all the great videos.
Please do a video on Citric Acid as I heard it bad for you like natural flavors.
I made my own marinara sauce from scratch and it tasted so much better than the store brought.
I’ve always used barilla pasta. I think ima try the Trader Joe’s one. Thanks
Victoria is by far the best and it's only $5.48 at Walmart. So yes, Walmart does have an excellent sauce since it carries Victoria and RAOs with have very few but natural ingredients.
Please do a video for people with GI issues. Thank you!
Bobby & Art...I love Roland organic Lo main noodles...ingredients organic wheat flour and salt. am I on the right track? in sauces I like Mezzetta napa valley homemade...ingredients California plum tomatoes, imported olive oil, fresh onions, roasted garlic, fresh basil, sea salt, spices.
“Gretzky denied! 🥅 🤣 This was encouraging and interesting. Thanks for the assist in my shopping this week.
Barilla Chickpea Rotini is just made from Chick Pea flour that's all the ingredients on the box, and it taste good.
What do you recommend for spaghetti noodles? My fav. Thanks for the sauce brand info.
Anyone who wants a cheap pasta sauce, Ragu Simply is great. Simple ingredients: Tomato purée, olive oil, salt, onions, carrots, dehydrated onions, garlic powder, onion powder, spices. No added sugar, no natural flavors, no bad oils, just olive oil. Also non GMO. $1.48 at Walmart where I live, best price ever!
iT'S GREAT TO HAVE A FOOD GURU TO GUIDE ME THROUGH THE GROCERY AISLES.
You guys are the freakin’ best. Love the information you give us! Keep up the great work!
Thanks bro.. I have always used named brands and my kids love it.. but now I have to rethink the way to do my pasta..
I bought Victoria I think from Costco looks pretty clean
Just tried Raos marinara sauce tonight- seriously elevated my lil heat up eggplant 🍆 parm & Aldis lasagna rolls to premium Italian restaurant level- not even kidding, its AWESOME 👍
do store bought baking mixes and frosting for the holiday season!
Bobby and Art are awesome guys!! thank you for informing people on how to eat healthy
If I purchase the sauce from Costco’s once I open it how do I store it how long does it last after opening it ?
Freeze in small amounts, maybe one cup measures so you can take out what you need.
Watch the sodium on a lot of these jar sauces! If you can find Ethnic cottage brand it’s made with NJ tomatoes. One of the best available and affordable.
Thank you so much for sharing l love your channel 🙏🏻❤️🌱
Thanks Bobby this is a huge help I have some pastas you mentioned in my cupboard that I need to get rid of plus a Rago pasta sauce that should go too.
Are you saying yeast extract is the same thing as MSG?
