  • You've been requesting it, so here is a detailed review of the best and healthiest jams and jellies from the grocery store. The bad news is that most of them are to be avoided bc they are loaded with added sugar..and other nasties. But there are a few gems out there that not only are organic, but use fruit juice to sweeten the jam or jelly, and not too much of it. The amount of added sugar is most store bought jam or jelly is staggering and to be avoid, so try to look for the ones I featured here. Mad love..Bobby, Dessi, Rose, and Art! XOXO

Bobby, the Bonne Maman fruit reserve with the checkered lid has been made in France for about 150 years and the family goes back that many years. During the war with Germany, this family took in and hid , saving the lives of well over a hundred Jews...I love the family story and I love the jam...just fyi...love your videos!

I make a fruit spread from a bag of frozen cranberries (love tartness!), an organic Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled and chopped, and an organic Bartlett pear cored and chopped…cook everything down in a pan until its thick then cool and jar and keep in fridge. I will also use a hand blender to smooth it a bit. Love it on my Dave’s Killer bread toasted.

Haha the way you pronounce Bonne Maman (means “good mother” in French) is hilarious, loved it!
The “e” in bonne is silent (unlike Bonnie) and the word kinda sounds like “John”. Maman is pronounced kinda like “ma”-“muh”. That one doesn’t really compare to any word in the English language so I would just look up the video pronunciation for it ;)
Bonne Maman is a very popular French jam brand. You’ll find it everywhere and it’s way cheaper in France. Yes the ingredients are not necessarily the best but French produce isn’t as heavily sprayed as the produce in the US and glyphosate, although not completely banned is no longer heavily used: some 36 glyphosate-based weedkillers are in the process of being banned.

i recently discovered "D'arbo" brand raspberry spread (at harris teeter) and it blows Bonne Maman out of the water. No joke , Bonne Maman tastes like sugary water compared to D'arbo Raspberry spread.
If you have a Harris Teeter nearby, check the Kosher/International section. You will be thanking me.

The best jams that I have, I make myself.I use dried apricots and nothing else. Everything has sugar and the apricots have natural sugar and it’s sweet enough for me, that’s for sure. I have to admit it wouldn’t be sweet enough for some of my Friends who love sugar. Soak the apricots overnight and just simmer them in the water the next day until they are soft and make a natural jam

Congratulations on 1M! The “preservative” in jams and jellies is the sugars. They keep the Water Activity high enough to prevent micro growth. The low sugar versions often add the preservative - potassium sorbate - to reduce mold growth. It is important to keep the low sugar versions in the fridge. The citric acid (or ascorbic or malic) is added to lower the pH and get the pectin to gel. Sodium citrate is a buffer salt to stabilize the pH for improved consistence.

I've done my own jam or "preserves" with just the fruit and pectin. You buy the berries (sometimes you can add something like orange juice or lemon to flavor more) and the pectin. It comes out pretty good. Although, because it is fresh with zero preservatives, you don't have long before mold gets to it. I think you have a good week or two.

    Hi Bobby,
To make jam less sweet ( I am the same, find it hard to cope with anything tasting too sweet as I gave sugarup in 2012!), I make my jam half organic strawberries and half organic raspberries ( about 500gms), chop and put in saucepan and cook medium heat for about 10 minutes, put in a one tbsp of stevia (my recipe says 2 tspns, but that I find is too much for my sweet- sensitive palate, so stick to one). Stir stevia in, and keep stirring for around 15 mins, stir 2 tbsps chia seeds ( a healthy pectin replacement) for the last five minutes. I actually find also one tbspn Chia seeds is enough. Cool for half hour off heat, and pour in recycled clean glass jars with lids and refrigerate. If you want it chunky like a real jam, leave as is, I blitz a bit with blender stick whilst in pan to make jam more "spreadable", but with still good fruit texture. I find that the chia seeds help really well with the thickening processing, and jam is great for the next day! PS- You can squeeze a spot of lemon in during the cooking process if desired ( I don't generally).
    So- good luck! :-)

I would like to see a video on best sugar substitute for baking. I looked at stevia today and they all have an added ingredient I wasn't familiar with. Thank you😊😊

Being from Russia my parents always made their own jams, usually with regular sugar and nothing else. I have been making with monk fruit sweetener which is not as sweet but I don’t mind it as I don’t like sweets that much. It is however is nice with evening tea which is very Russian, lol

I am approaching 70 years of age. I used to help my mom can her foods and jam, jelly and preserves.
Honestly speaking, I have never seen her use any sugars.

Great video Bobby, just bought 2 items from Laird to try them out. Have a great day! Wanted to try out the Good Good jelly but wow almost $10 for 12 oz strawberry jelly, a little out of my price range.

Luv ur videos, could watch them all day. Personally, when it comes to nut butters, I always go for the TJ's organic Valencia peanut butter with no salt added. Super clean , super cheap, and I know u would approve it :)

Loved this video! I accidently found a jam that would be approved😊 I had organic cranberrys in bags left over from holiday so it was used to create jam. Boil, save filtered water, press add Stevie and place into sealed jar. It was solid so it was placed into boiling water then removed and placed onto keto toast or scone, FABULOUS accident.

I know this is late but I made jam over the weekend using organic cherries and honey as the sweetener. You have to use a special pectin that is made for low sugar/sugar alternatives. The brand I used was Pomona's Universal Pectin that I found at the health food store. It tastes great and you'd never know there's no cane sugar.

I was just at Target today and passed the jams and wondered which is best. Since finding your videos, I am addicted and can't get enough! I decided to wait to "see what Bobby recommends." Really trying to eat healthier as my husband and I are both middle aged+. Loved your video on the bottled drink review when Art got that "chunker". You're daughter stole the show! She is so adorable! God Bless!

Bobby, mix fruit, water, sugar free pectin and stevia. I don’t remember how much of what 🤗 but people make sugar-free jams and jellies all the time. I sure do love watching you and your good information. Thank you!!!

I was hoping to see ALL FRUIT or SIMPLY FRUIT brands to see how they measure up. Guess I need to read the labels! Thanks for all you do to inform and encourage us! I have been using Crazy Richards PB and SIMPLY FRUIT lately (Walmart). Their pickup service substituted the palm oil PB once, and I was NOT HAPPY!

Thanks for the vids about bread, pb jellies and jams. I'm a morning coffee, toast with pb and jelly guy. I've gained too much weight during the covid-19 threat and on top of that I'm a senior with knee arthritis and a bad back. I'm trying to eat sensibly to keep the extra pounds down. Thanks for your guidance.

When I made jelly in France, even when the strawberries were sweet, I always added a touch of sugar to taste. When the fruit was not very sweet, add more sugar. Those were the days before sugar substitutes.

Even though I know it's not organic my favorite is still Bonne Maman - the French strawberry preserves. I used organic fruit juice sweetened spreads for years but I really missed actual preserves with chunks of fruit that the spreads just don't have.
