I make my own kefir cheese. It has the consistency between sour cream and cream cheese. The probiotic benefit is amazing. For $6/half gallon, I can make better probiotics than in stores, and cheaper. I use Organic Valley Grassmilk (good stuff!). It's non-homogenized, which is good. Yes, it's Pasteurized, but it's not Ultra Pasteurized. It's the closest thing to Raw Milk I can find in the grocery store. If there's something better, let me know.
Wow I have raw goat milk... Would LOVE to know how to make that kefir cheese! Like... Where to get the grains, how long ferment, then strain in cloth... Etc..?
@@Kbmaas I'm jealous, they don't allow raw milk in my state. I got my grains on amazon ~$15. You definitely want live grains, not powdered. Strain the grains out with a nylon strainer to make kefir milk. Never let metal touch your kefir. Then strain with a cheese cloth to make yogurt/cheese. For that last step I use a combination of the strainer & cheese cloth, versus others will make a ball w/ the cheese cloth. At first I was fermenting every 24 hours. When grains are new they will need this process to grow. Eventually you can slow down. Now I only ferment 1/2 gallon once a week (6 days in the fridge + 24hrs on the shelf). This is probably THE best youtube instructional video. They also a link to the grains on amazon. ua-cam.com/video/1AXAOFZzUTI/v-deo.html
I've made kefir cheese, it's fantastic! If you use cream, it separates into cheese and cultured butter. Try adding some honey to the milk before culturing, it makes some wonderful tasting cheese.
I was raised on unpasteurized milk and cheese (I'm Irish, my grandparents were farmers, plenty of grassfed cows and free milk because of that). I developed a serious case of lactose intolerance because of it - before the age of two. Raw milk is far stronger and creamier than pasteurized milk. It's delicious but a word of warning: sometimes it's pasteurized for a reason and unpasteurized milk and dairy may not suitable for everyone.
Mel I am finding out that wheat and peanut butter affects everyone negatively but most just don't know it yet. So it doesn't surprise me about dairy. That being said, it's pasteurized to kill any health benefits and is why they add synthetic vit D. All of our food has been messed with and it isn't done for our benefit.
@@BobbyParrish It affects EVERYONE and by the time they realize it, it will be too late. "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food," is not just a quaint old saying.
@@VickiTakacs. hey there, it's pasteurized so that we don't get salmonella, e.coli, campylobacteria, etc. Not everything is a big conspiracy by big pharma. Unless you suck milk right from a cow's teats and have the digestive system and immunity of a calf, you may get sick from drinking unpasteurized milk, especially if it stays in the temperature danger zone for a long time. And another thing, calcium cannot be absorbed into the body to form into bones without the presence of vitamin d. And no, gluten and peanuts are not poison. Maybe only for the very tiny percentage of humans allergic to them, but not all.
I have always thought pecorino romano was better than parm reggiano. It’s delicious and a great price at TJs indeed. I also buy block feta from TJs. Its imported from Greece and so very good in a traditional spanakotiropita (spanakopita). Im not a cheese lover but this is a very good video. Thank you.
I absolutely love these videos and educating myself! But at the same time it makes me feel like a bad mom because I can't afford to buy every single thing organic and grass-fed there is just no way. My husband works but I am a student right now with three kids. Hopefully one day
Keep that head straight! Your kids will be able to be taught this information as soon as needed and will value that understanding later on. I grew up in a similar situation and as soon as I had to shop for myself I had all the knowledge when the time came. That’s much more valuable then unknowingly being able to feed your child organic food and never teaching them🔥💎
First of all, I love your videos Bobby. I am subscribed and recommend you to my friends. Secondly, on this occasion, I have to take you off your high horse for a moment. You kind of dismissed Parmigiano Reggiano pretty quickly. You should highlight more "Parmigiano Reggiano". This cheese is great on the stomach, and in Italy, for example, it's one of the few items doctors say you can eat when having stomach troubles. Parmigiano is great alone, grated fresh on pasta recipes and as an ingredient in several recipes (many, many Italian recipes have Parmigiano in them). Not only does it have a great aged flavor -- but it's versatile, good for you, and just simply wonderful. So, it may be more expensive, but oh so worth it. In the video you've compared Romano to Parmigiano, but it's worth noting that they don't substitute each other (simply put, they are different flavors). One last thing, where was the fresh mozzarella in water?? I mean, that is a lovely cheese to eat, like in a caprese salad, or alone. :-) Some examples of nice ones are: (1) Galbani Bocconcini [in Safeway or Bashas, where I live] and (2) Garofalo Mozzarella di Bufala campana (Water buffalo mozzarella) [in Costco, where I live]. But, there are many more types, sizes & shapes, and in different stores there are different brands, of course. My request to you is: Can you do an entire episode on quality Italian Cheeses?
First of all THANK YOU! SECONDLY: my disdain for youtube is real! My news feed is the same stuff day after day when there is content like this that I could have been seeing!! I have friends who are lactose intolerant. Your content will help them! For the record, I LOVE DUBLINER!!! and Kerrygold in general. So much info for a CHEESEHEAD that I can't wait to wait this video again! I wish you would have discussed the Merts spread though... and for that matter cheeseballs (not the orange ones) the cheeseball and cracker kind! Thank you again!!!
That Dubliner cheese is available at the 99 cent store sometimes. Marked down to 1.50 even... occasionally I've gotten bunches from the dumpster too. Always go round back first ..

Loving all this great info Bobby! Found your vids 3 weeks ago and been binging them all don't Ive seen them all yet but I think I got a great start! Just turned 40 and my health has been worst it's ever been this year! I work out almost everyday and never lose weight. I'm ready to turn this ship around in a big way. I'm already loving so many of your suggestions! I havnt eaten peanut butter in years cause it always made me sick to my stomach. I tried the creamy richards peanut butter only ingredient being peanuts! On the sprouted power bread it is soo good! Does NOT make me feel sick at all! Soo crazy. I rarely eat fast food because my body literally rejects it. I would eat the chick-Fil- a crispy sandwich and I would have the worst reaction from it like a Gerd asthma attack where I can't breath and have to keep coughing til it subsides! Dr's think I'm crazy when I explain it. Then I watch your video on it other day that says they put double MSG in it! Explains a lot to me. My body cannot take this bs they are putting in the food! So thank you so much! Your a trailblazer of our time. Will continue to follow and pass along this great information to those who want it.
I grew up on a dairy farm. Our cows were mostly grass fed with a bucket of mixed grain provided twice a day during milking time. During winter the cows grazed on a winter grass pasture and hay. Each day we had fresh milk to drink without homogenization or pasteurization.
Professional cheesemonger and cheese educator here. Lots of great tips for the average shopper. Thank you for taking the time to do this! But here's a suggestion for everyone: look at who your local cheesemakers are and support local businesses by buying local cheese! (Your state may have a local cheese guild or cheese association that will help you figure out who those fine folks are.) It may be more expensive, but it helps strengthen your local food economy--and during COVID, we've all seen how the national and global food chain broke down so easily. Plus you might be able to go visit their farm or creamery, so that you will really know where your food is coming from! Many small creameries can't afford the exorbitant costs associated with becoming certified organic, so only buying organic instead of buying local may mean that you are missing out on cheesemakers who are doing things right but can't afford to stick a label on their cheeses to prove it. And at some point, all mass-produced cheeses are the same, even with the organic or grass-fed label slapped on them. (For what it's worth, corn is technically a grass, so grass-fed cheeses may be from cows who received a supplement of corn. That's common knowledge in the cheese industry.) And to be totally clear: sheep and goat's milks DO contain lactose. ANY cheese that is old enough to have grown a rind is going to be virtually free of lactose.
Bobby, my 11 year old granddaughter wanted me to buy Velveta cheese for her to eat (I’m a pescatarian), and I nearly had a Fred Sanford heart attack‼️😂 I told her NO, and I explained to her why not: it’s a horrible processed glob of nastiness! I share your videos with her and my family! I appreciate you and Art very much; keep up the great work‼️Can you do a video about plant based“Simple” crackers? They use bad oils, too. And also non-gas BBQ grills using wood chunks/chips only vs. charcoal. And gas grills are pure cancer‼️
I have heard Bobby say before he uses Vega but I think he needs to do more research on his protein powders, for instance, go check out www.cleanlabelproject.org/protein-powder/ because many powders have metals in them that are toxic and Vega does not rank well on the list.
Thanks for the informative video! I love Annie’s Mac n cheese for my grandkids, but had no idea they made grass fed! Will be looking for that. My grandkids love Mac n cheese. I buy pecorino Romano from Costco. It’s a huge chunk, but it lasts a long time. I personally only eat sheep’s or goats milk cheese because it’s easier to digest. My dietitian recommended it years ago. My functional doc showed me in my blood test results, several times, that I have inflammation when I eat anything made from cows milk. Actually can see a certain kind of white cell rise in number-which is inflammation. I’m a science nerd and fascinated by this stuff. :)
I love Romano cheese. I actually like it more than Parmesan. I have a great cottage cheese snack...scoop out some cherry tomatoes. Sprinkle with salt. Combine cottage chz with minced cucumber and garlic. Stuff tomatoes!! Great summer snack!!

One that you forgot to mention is to NEVER EVER get that parmesan cheese in that green shaker. I stopped getting that stuff about 15 years ago but about three or four years ago I read that a significant portion of that stuff is wood pulp.
I buy dairy cheese, usually organic or at least Cabot, but sometimes I buy non dairy and I get the almond cheese. Dejia is terrible! Unfortunately they seem to always use it on non dairy pizza. I love the videos you guys do. I am making a change in my bread eating. I will buy sprouted. Thanks.
You are so informative! Thank you. I read the label on a WalMart brand of cottage cheese earlier this year, and found that one of the ingredients was carbon dioxide!! When people start becoming more informed and stop eating products containing chemicals and sugar, we'll see a lot more affordable choices on the shelves.

I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery in 2014 and eating has been a nightmare since. I lost down to 98lbs from 147lbs and almost died. It has even caused my skin and hair to dry out terribly, and a whole host of other problems. I have to be really careful of what I eat now, and dairy is one of the biggest things that trigger my stomach issues. I've gained my most of my weight back now, but I'm left with having to watch everything I eat. I really appreciate these videos you make, and I share them with my husband because he has to do our shopping since my surgery and illness caused me to be disabled and homebound.
I'm 70 years old and have been "rockin" the natural food eating since in the 1970's, so I love your videos! The one thing I find is that even tho I might find a good quality processed food there is always way too much salt added to give everything for flavor.
Thanks for the video Bobby! Have been on a quest for the perfect, healthiest cheese. Any pasteurized dairy loses crucial nutrients and enzymes. Raw grass fed organic seems to be the best option, but very limited choices in the store. There seems to be a lot of labeling tricks on how you can claim "raw" dairy. According to USDA anything cooked below 161 degrees can be considered raw even though at that temp, it is sub-pasteurized. Hence companies like Organic Valley get away with calling their cheese "raw" when it really isn't. Was really disappointed to read about that. Best solution: Buy from trusted farmers, ask about their process, and/or make cheese yourself.
I wish I knew of FlavCity when my kids were small and when I was growing up, but never too late to eat better and make those changes. Thank you Mr. Parrish for all you do. Blessing to you and your lovely family.
May I make a suggestion?. When you are at a certain Supermarket / grocery store when you are reviewing for example mayonnaise and you are at Walmart and you pick the ones that you like and the ones to stay away from. Can you also suggest the best one at that store that we should buy because some of us can't get to the other stores where you suggest that they have the best ones at. I think a lot of us would appreciate that. Thank you so much for all that you do for us.
I use the channel to be educated on affordable organic products or healthy alternatives. If that means that, I can't afford a healthy option of a certain food, either I don't have that food at all or have it very rarely. Is it fair? No. But I value my health over my tastebuds. Nothing is essentially "cheaper" because you either pay for it in groceries or in hospital bills.
I KNOW RIGHT! EVERYBODY THAT IS PUSHING THESE HIGH QUALITY FOODS ARE MOSTLY FROM CALIFORNIA!!! ALSO THERE AIR QUALITY SUCKS OUT WEST AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN IS FULL OF FUKUSHIMA FALLOUT FROM THAT NUKE PLANT!!!
In Canada, it is like Ireland where the weather is too cold for the cows to forage for most of the year. So during the warmer months, grass-fed (conventional and organic) have to be let out for 6 hours a day for 120 days of the year. Most dairy is fed a mix of grass, forage and grain here because in the winter it just isnt possible to get grass. For organic cows, they just have to eat organically grown crops. No milk in Canada, conventional or organic, can contain antibiotics when it reaches the supply chain or it is dumped out. The strict laws apply to both in Canada so it is a little harder to differentiate here lol! It really comes down to the individual farmer and animal welfare here. Most farmers are pretty good, but even some organic farmers will put their cows out in the sweltering heat just to meet that 6 hour requirement when the cow would prefer to be inside...
Robert Weber... when I found out I was diabetic I discovered that while reading labels. I shred all of our own now. My husband made me laugh in the beginning because he asked if I was buying some fancy brand because it was melting better on his pizza and tasted so good lol
Love the video..thanks! I hope you can update this cheese video given more products are out there….i was also wondering if Costco shredded Parmesan is okay ?
Growing up Tillamook cheese was made with milk from the cows in the Tillamook valley, pasture raised year-round. Their small batch cheese was expensive and could only be bought locally. So sad that they went big time. Now their milk comes from factory dairys in Eastern Washington that pollute the land and turn out low quality milk. It's heartbreaking to witness a good company sell out.

Bobby i appreciate your channel it is so time consuming to read labels but to know what you put in your body is so important I thank you so much because you tell us not only whats in products and why. You have done your homework in explaining why its good and what we are actually eating and the difference between products . Why do you know all these things are you that inquisitive. I want to do all these things in the store and only brush the surface of understanding I'm learning so much from you. Thank you.❤
NOT a cheesy Bobby video but a Superior Bobby Informative Spectrum of Cheese tidbits that everyone should know!
@@VickiTakacs. i think many ingredients affect many people...and they dont realize it ; )
@@BobbyParrish It affects EVERYONE and by the time they realize it, it will be too late.
Mel Bullshit. It is pasteurized for all of the wrong reasons.
Thank you.
Just want to say thank you so much for showing me the good healthy foods. God bless you and your family.❤
Look at those 2019 prices. I’d give anything to go back to that year and do something to prevent everything that has happened to destroy me since then
I absolutely love these videos and educating myself!
:-) Some examples of nice ones are: (1) Galbani Bocconcini [in Safeway or Bashas, where I live] and (2) Garofalo Mozzarella di Bufala campana
(Water buffalo mozzarella) [in Costco, where I live].

Nice to see you’re not at some obscure grocery store where the recommended products are unavailable to those in rural, fly-over country.

Good to know Aldi has organic cheese. I most of my shopping there.
@Liz Lee
Curious to know what their prices are on everyday cheddar that's organic, etc.
Do they carry merlot organic?
I love the Aldi's closest to me. I'll be glad when it's open again as it got hit by a tornado on Memorial Day.
How can you stand shopping with scumbags?
I don't recall shopping with you.
I grew up on a dairy farm. Our cows were mostly grass fed with a bucket of mixed grain provided twice a day during milking time. During winter the cows grazed on a winter grass pasture and hay. Each day we had fresh milk to drink without homogenization or pasteurization.
And it tastes so good!
Thanks for the additional details!

Here's a suggestion for you if it hasn't been done yet. Protein powder supplements. 👈
I have heard Bobby say before he uses Vega but I think he needs to do more research on his protein powders, for instance, go check out www.cleanlabelproject.org/protein-powder/ because many powders have metals in them that are toxic and Vega does not rank well on the list.
He uses garden of life plant based protein. You can get it on amazon.
I prefer to get my protein from food, not from powders.

Multi-collagen or something like Amy Myers Paleo Protein. Clean, clean, clean.

The New Zealand organic cheddar cheese from trader is delicious!! I buy it often and many times make grilled cheese with it for my granddaughter

May I make a suggestion?. When you are at a certain Supermarket / grocery store when you are reviewing for example mayonnaise and you are at Walmart and you pick the ones that you like and the ones to stay away from. Can you also suggest the best one at that store that we should buy because some of us can't get to the other stores where you suggest that they have the best ones at. all these organics are going to incinerate my wallet. Lol
The price is not too bad you pay around the same in the netherlands for that
I KNOW RIGHT! EVERYBODY THAT IS PUSHING THESE HIGH QUALITY FOODS ARE MOSTLY FROM CALIFORNIA!!! ALSO THERE AIR QUALITY SUCKS OUT WEST AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN IS FULL OF FUKUSHIMA FALLOUT FROM THAT NUKE PLANT!!!
Spend more for organic and eliminate something bad for you.
Thanks for the help Bobby Parrish! I can't wait to get munchin' on my favourite cheeses!

Their cheeses have a great natural taste, so I'm sure they are still using the best milk they continue to win awards.
