This was absolutely amazing! Something about the raw energy in the music and their performance really took me by surprise! NOW.. it seems like there is some hate going on between Lovebites Fans and Band Maid fans BUT IAM CONVICED THOSE ARE JUST TROLLS! . So please miss me with the comments about who i should like better, because thats just dumb an dont be a troll... its so unattractive, ugh.... I like them both and you should too. lol

Big positive for me is their versatility. They have over 110 song catalog. Every type of rock, pop, punk, bluesy, classic, hard, jazzy, emo, proggy., and killer acoustic versions. For a very different side, their latest video, Bestie. We, old timers, used to call that style "soft rock".

•Bass solos are more likely to happen than not
•Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be

•If you like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that.

As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful.
•The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis.
•There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs.
•10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that.
•More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole.
•Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics.
•Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's.
•As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both.
•Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well.
•They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other.
•Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

There's certainly no hate between the bands themselves. As a matter of fact Loovebites singer, drummer and guitarist were at this Band-Maid concert and tweeted about it. Saiki, the lead singer for Band-Maid spotted them in the crowd and waved at them even as she was singing. I would love to see you react to Endless Story live, which was the show closer for this 10th anniversary concert. It will give you another dimension to Band-Maid.

Knowing the context of the song and the lyrics, go back and watch the bass and guitar battle and this time watch it as an argument. An argument between the guy(bass) and the girl(guitar). The bass starts the argument, the guitar answers, the bass argues more, the guitar answers back, they begin "yelling" at each other, but eventually the girl (guitar) has the last word and finishes the argument. And the singer with that final extra angry LALALALALA! Is...*chefs kiss* the perfect ending to this song.

What's most amazing is that the lead guitarist has composed over 130 songs, the rhythm guitarist has written the lyrics, and there are no bad songs. Band-Maid are one of a kind, there is no one else like them anywhere!! The girls are best friends and like sisters, they always have a great time performing. Lovebites are a great band too and I try to support them as best as I can. Lovebites and Band-Maid are friends, the 2 drummers Akane and Haruna quite often celebrate birthdays together and 3 members of Lovebites attended this concert and were found in the crowd by the singer and guitarist Kanami. These five young Japanese females are insanely talented. They have been commissioned to do several entres and outres for anime series and films inJapan. They even made their own anime featured official music video with the song "Unleash". Band-Maid has been together intact as a rock group for over ten years. They have recorded over 130 songs, every one of them good and several are outstanding. "Hate?" was performed at the band's 10th Anniversary Tour finale in Yokohama last November. There are a few videos from that concert that the band has released on UA-cam including "Unleash", "Don't You Tell ME", and "Endless Story". Band-Maid's latest release is "Bestie" a rock power ballad. It's a mid-tempo song that is a heartfelt tribute to the band from Miku Kobato, the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, and main lyricist to her bandmates, her "besties". Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

There's a live version of their song Corallium on UA-cam played in a small club setting and it has such a marvelous vocal musical density, very rich musical composition. They have such a range of musical direction that they explore. They also have a song called Shambles that comes from an anime sound track.
Oh yes. I love that version of Corallium. You mean the live performance at "Eggman", right?!

When I subbed I did not expect to see a Band Maid reaction video, but I love it!
I stumbled across Band-Maid almost 3 years ago. I did not know what to think of them at first. You might think they're an assembled idol group, but they are and then they aren't. Their management, Platinum Passport, wanted to promote them as an idol group with 'special characteristics' and distinct personalities, so Band-Maid went out of their way to give themselves outrageous 'special characteristics' and odd personalities. This has become a series of running gags that the band plays along with, as well as the maid cafe motif. While their music is generally uplifting and positive, humor plays a large role in their performances.
Band-Maid is one of those unique acts that consistently delivers more than you expect. Your favorite Band-Maid song is the last one you heard and they have a *DEEP* catalog of unique songs and they can put together a different set list every night.
BTW: this performance of "HATE?" was from the middle of a 3-1/2 hour long arena show where they performed 33 songs, keeping their fans on their feet the entire night. Three months later they performed a 23 song concert, only repeating three songs.
This band is far more than you expect. Way, way more. Just keep listening to them - and eventually Band-Maid hits you over the head with a sledgehammer.

I'm glad you noticed their energy, this song was the 27th out of a 33 song setlist at a concert that lasted around 3 hours and 40 minutes, and they still had that much energy. They have over 120 songs in their discography and every song sounds different from the last song you heard; they tend to experiment with a lot of different genres, often times within the same song. They are really impressive live. And they are so nice. Back in the days when you could actually meet them Miko actually complimented me on my beard, even though I'm old and have a very scraggly beard. I appreciated the attempt. They and most of their fans are very nice
"Welcome home, princess". Yes, they formerly all had maid dresses which changed over time. But if you ask the band members they will tell you that all outfits are still maid dresses ... We MAIDiacs call them "their battle armour".
Before some more details, I would recommend "Endless Story" from the same concert! That is kind of an opposite song to "Hate?" and was the final song of that 10th anniversary final concert in Yokohama.
These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). Miku wasn't able to play the guitar when she founded the band in 2013.
I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. So, this is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special live videos try Freedom, Play, Real existence and Endless Story. With Moratorium (Live at Zepp), Rinne (MV) and Dice you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are Choose me (MV), Bestie (MV) and Alone (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe About Us (MV) and Daydreaming (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like From now on (MV) and Onset (Live). And finally a very special live performance is Manners/Blackhole (Official Online Live)🍌 And there is more: For example the songs with Miku in lead, their christmas acoustic concert and the 'cover band' Band-Maiko ;-)
But if you want to start at the beginning of their career (2013-2017) then go with Thrill (MV, their first video), Real Existence (second video, I recommend the official live video), Alone (MV, first own composition), Freedom(best LIVE performance), Choose Me, Play (LIVE!), ...
By the way: 99% of their songs are very positive, also the lyrics❤

One of the best bands in the world as they completely know and play their instruments superbly. They are very fun to watch and are much better live but they do have some cool music videos. They do always have a good time on stage and you can tell they are having fun. Try the song Freedom or Don't You Tell Me the official live videos. That are so fun to watch.

The bassist is name MISA and in my 11th year as a bassist, she was the one who convinced me to move to 5 strings a few years ago and I've never looked back

Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)

Not sure where you saw the comment, but it's likely from one of the trolls that frequents the community trying to spread hate (no pun intended lmao). Lovebites and Band Maid are like, actual friends. The musicians themselves get along nicely but then those "fans" just have to ruin things.

Best rock band on the planet. Listen to anything from this concert. Everything they do is excellent and they do have a number of slower, mellower songs too but this primarily how they go at it. the members of this band are all pieces of a perfect puzzle. Misa is one of the best bassists around, she's called "the barefoot assassin". Four members of Lovebites were actually at this concert.

Julia, on thing…the Maids mix all their music in stereo with the guitars in different sides. The lead guitar is in the right, which you heard, along with the rest of the band that’s split across both left and right.
But the Rhythm guitar is nearly all only in the left side. You wouldn’t have heard much of it and won’t in any future video if you don’t listen in both ears. You need both ears to get the whole sound of the Maids. 🤷🏻♂️

As for their Maid outfits: Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. The Maid costume are to create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing "demure maids" vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. They are only the second Japanese band to be invited to Lollapalooza (the other X Japan 14 yrs ago) where they were a big hit.
Misa bassist, is a master on the bass. Started music lessons at 3yo on the piano, but didn't stay with it. Went to guitar then the Bass. She still plays the piano, just not on stage.

I remembered the name of one of the instigators of the controversy in the comments, and I think he's actually part of Wolfpack. I came across a video in the recommendations with the title "TOP 5 MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN OF JAPANESE ROCK." And the same atmosphere of "goddess worship" reigns in the comments there. And the dude with the nickname @LovebitesisdomisdominatingBandMaid is not accused of trolling, on the contrary, he quite calmly participates in discussions with old LB fans.
Sorry, but in my top I only gave BM one place, the 2nd place it was taken by Saiki. Miyako seems to be in the lead.

I completely agree with you on the different languages adding a different feel to lyrics. I personally love Japanese, as it seems more percussive than English.
The Maids are exceptional songwriters who can blend and bend genres inside their compositions.
As a singer, I’m sure you will eventually find Saiki to have almost superhuman breath control.
I would love to hear your thoughts on some of their more cinematic rock. “Wonderland” and “Puzzle” are two big, bombastic examples.
But I selfishly hope someday you listen to their heavy metal instrumental “From Now On.” The lead guitarist and primary composer is a classically trained pianist and writes many songs on piano. In “From Now On,” she plays a short melody that I swear is based on an opera. But I have had no luck discovering which one! 😢

To give you a brief history...Miku Kobato (the one in the stereotypical maid costume and the band's leader) worked in a maid cafe while she was forming the band. That is how the Band Maid name came about. It was kind of an extension of her side gig.
She did a great job gathering all this amazing talent. All of these ladies are amazing.
My favorite band. Great musicians, amazing song writer(s), wonderful personalities and 5 gals who truly care for each other. If you are interested, may I suggest ENDLESS STORY from the same concert. Never thought I would see an opera singer review our maids. After hearing your thoughts I would suggest you check out the official music video for "Unleash!!!!!" Because it's done in anime style. If you want to hear Saiki, the lead singer, at her best I think "Daydreaming", "Wonderland", "About Us", and "Endless Story" are your best bets. But save the official live video for "Endless Story" for last because it puts a,nice bow on everything. Welcome down the pigeon hole.

That’s hectic & heavy duty with killer vocals.
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
Also, love your graphic at the beginning. Band-Maid has tea time and even serves tea often, Po. Try The Nonfiction Days OMV for a tea party on the beach, or Don't You Tell Me OMV for a banquet interrupted, or Domination for a Power tea party.

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. Think that covers everything. PS Lovebites are THE best Metal band on Earth! Also, Lovebites were in the audience at this concert because they - like the vast majority of us fans of both bands - are fine people who appreciate superb musicianship and don't have time for trolls.
I wish they were around when I was stationed in Northern japan my lady friends would take me down south to the maid cafes and the pachinko arcades I did get to see them live in silver spring maryland a few years ago THEY KICKED ASS! Ohaiyo gozaimas played bass in a punk cover band before I got on the turntables

1:55 - Yes, their theme is maids (Maid servers are common in some Japanese cafes). However, these outfits are a slow departure from the maid outfits they've worn in past performances and videos.
8:25 - That's the best part about BAND-MAID. No member is above everyone else and each performer is given the opportunity to shine.
10:15 - BM's lyrics are usually motivational and inspirational but this song is an exception. Long story short, the lyrics point to a cheating boyfriend whose girlfriend is a good friend of this band's lead singer (Saiki).
Hate? was song #27 of 33 (3.5 hrs). Saiki (lead V) wrote the lyrics from a 4th person prospective (Cheater, Victim, Mistress, Saiki).Side note: it appears Saiki is a "The Simpsons" fan, and wanted to use Bart's "I Hate you" phrase in a song, and here we have it, Po! PS, From this show on, they had refined their "Fighting gear," as they call their maid uniform. They commissioned @kimikatrock, a boutique vintage dress designer, to develop gear unique to each personality. I think the Look is Maid Cafe Biker Chic, Po! Btw, Was there (from LA). 🦍🍌
Maid Sama : "The class president is a maid!". I have seen it and it's good. Much better than "Hand Maid May", which was funny, but a real stretch of the imagination. My favorite maid anime is "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid". Don't judge me until you watch it.🙂
Love "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid"..and have been lucky enough to have visited many of the real life locations used in the show during my last trip to see the MAID's in Japan (I was at this concert!..YAY!)...I also visited real life locations for "Super CUB", "Bocchi The Rock" and "Non Non Biyori"...And without knowing it.."Mitsuboshi Colors"...A couple of the scenes in that show are seen in BAND-MAID's "Don't Let Me Down" MV.....BTW the park where the swing is that Hitori is sitting on when Nijika first finds her in Ep.1 of "Bocchi the Rock" is a short walk from the temple used as the backdrop for BAND-MAID's "Real Existence" MV.
I am so impressed that Kanami took up guitar for the same reason so many other rockers did "she wanted to impress the girls'. oh and I want to Misa's booze tech.

Miku, the Founder, has stuck with the standard French Maid outfit, though modified. MISA was the first to go All Black, but the others have strayed from the maid concept more with each new outfit. You should also check out the three young sisters out of Monterey Mexico. They call them selves The Warning. The youngest sister is the bassist and she is not yet 20 years old. They have been playing as a band for over 10 years. They are phenomenal and taking the rock scene by storm. I suggest you start with their latest release “Automatic Sun”

And for most of us there is no problems between Lovebites and Band-Maid. Most of the ladies of Lovebites are close personal friends to the Ladies of Band-Maid. In fact Haruna and Akane, the drummers, often hang out together with a few other drummer friends from other bands. It is probably because of their shared admiration of Nao from Maximum the Hormone.
However in every fandom there will be a few who are a little less mature. So I apologize for those who may have cluttered up your comment section.
I have much more of that information file if you would like me to post it, please just leave a reply to this comment.
I will suggest that in the future when listening to Band-Maid, you use over the ear open back headphones. As part of their "Sound" is how the instruments are panned either left, right, or centered. And how the panning of the instruments change during a song depending on which line or bar of the song they are on. Their unique sound mixing is just one of the things which makes Band-Maid songs stand out. During the extended bridge/breakdown leading into the solo, with just having 1 ear bud in you probably missed the important interplay between the bass guitar and both the lead and rhythm guitar.
The rhythm guitarist's signal is almost exclusively panned to the hard left, while the Lead guitarist's signal is MOSTLY panned hard right, except during certain features of songs. Those features, are solos, and some bridges. During them the lead guitarist's signal is mixed part way into the left channel to make her guitar stand out more. However with only one channel, you miss that interplay.
And this song was written by the lead guitarist, Kanami, with lyrics by the primary lead singer Saiki. Saiki was upset with all of the reports of adultery/cheating going on during the lockdowns plus a personal friend of hers was also cheated on, so she wrote the lyrics as a form of catharsis (Catharsis is also the name of another Band-Maid song and is extremely good in all 3 versions, 2 of those versions are available on their UA-cam channel. The Live acoustic version and the studio full version in the play list for their album Conqueror. There is a 3rd version that was only performed live, and there is no official video of it.)
I look forward to your future reactions of the Ladies. As for what songs I recommend? I will tell you ANY and ALL. These 5 brilliant young Ladies are the only band I have found where I enjoy their entire catalog of music. Not even The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, RUSH, or Styx have done that to me. Only these 5 young Ladies. So please, just pick one or two or a dozen of their songs, and I guarantee you, they will be good songs.

You just listened to the best rock band on earth…..past, present and foreseeable future. Their dress and maid outfits are designed by them and their whole concept has a woman’s touch that rock music desperately needed. The guitarist (Kanami) and bass (MISA) are world class if not the best at their craft. The drummer (Akane) should not be overlooked as she too is world class (if not the best). Saiki, the lead singer, is the best female rock vocalist of all time. Miku, rhythm guitarist, is a great lyricist and singer in her own right. In conclusion, the BEST ROCK BAND on the planet!! By the way: I read alot comments when listening to Band Maid reactions and NEVER have seen any negative comment about Lovebites. Maybe under the LB videos?
Most reactors already know Lovebites and Baby Metal, so i don't see recommendations for them under Band Maid reactions.
Just recently, there were some very new reactors having recommendations for Band-Maid and then LOVEBITES, being excited about both, even more often as in this case, where Jules first tested LOVEBITES and then Band-Maid. But it doesn't matter, which comes first! Unter LOVEBITES videos, you'll also find recommendations for up to 20 (or even more) Japanese bands, most definitely for Band-Maid, sometimes Babymetal (who I can't take too seriously), Nemophila, Hanabie, Gacheric Spin, and many more.
All five are dressed as maids, but different kinds, as you noted. Guitarists Kanami and Miku are dressed as more stereotypical maids, though Kanami recently switched up her design to go with more of a black theme. Drummer Akane is the third member with a variation on the traditional maid outfit, though hers is more sleek and stylized to allow her more freedom of movement behind the drums. Lead singer Saiki is wearing a servant's outfit more akin to a housemother or governess outfit. The bassist MISA employs what they call an "assassin maid" aesthetic that is based partially on classic Chinese designs and the assassin maids of manga and anime. So all five are dressed as maids, but only three are in what most people would recognize as traditional maid outfits.
