Paul Stanley is a very underrated singer. Thru his career, he improved immensely and will go down as one of the greatest rock singers and front men of all time. Kiss is an amazing band, and their legacy will live forever. Thanks for taking time to react to him and this band
My favorite band. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see a younger generation appreciate the talent Paul Stanley has. Beyond the show, Beyond the make up.... if the talent and music wasn't there they would have never lasted more than 50 years. Wonderful video. Keep up the great work.
As a kid I wanted to be Paul Stanley. He was such a rock star! He had such a great voice! He is amazing for someone born with only one ear! He has never heard stereo. Can you even imagine that? One ear only yet he belts out vocals that no one could ever duplicate. He is such a cool guy. The universe has a strange sense of humor. The greatest rock star singer ever has only one ear? So unfair yet he went full bore and gave his life for music. That is amazing to me.
How many people can say that they watched this live on MTV back in the day....I Did...Just got home from work back then...grabbed a beer from the fridge and plopped into my coach, turned on the TV and MTV and it was playing for the very first time...talk about perfect timing...and the exact same happened for me with the Alice in Chains Unplugged...same scenario and timing....I am blessed...Cant believe that was so many years ago...feels like yesterday
Loved your reaction!! It warms my heart to see younger generations discovering our bands! Paul Stanley is an amazing vocalist and front man for Kiss. He has it all.. the looks, the talent and the voice. And i believe he is self taught . A natural gift. I dont know if you knew he is completely deaf in his right ear so the fact that he stays in range and has complete control of his voice is beyond AMAZING!!! And he is sitting down!! That is serious diaphragm control. I just found a few videos of him doing the Phantom on UA-cam...they are not professionally done..but you can hear his range and talent. I would know his voice anywhere. I wish they would have recorded his performances. You are gem...and your voice is angelic. Keep reaching for the stars.
I am not a highly trained singer so it didn't occur to me that sitting would be a constraint but it makes sense, I forgot he was deaf in one ear, it didn't slow him down at all obviously. maybe he'll never appreciate a nice stereo mix, but he's had a brilliant career, a self-made man.
This entire vocal performance is essentially one long crescendo that never stops building. Dare I say this performance specifically is one of the greatest vocal performances of all time. He’s very restrained until the pre chorus after the second verse when his vibrato starts to open up and it’s just… wow. His little staccato like flicks into his head voice in the final chorus is almost like yodelling.
Great reaction!! Paul actually performed in The fantom of the Opera as the phantom. They loved him so much he was asked to play the Phantom a second time.
It’s so awesome to see Paul Stanley get recognition for his voice. He truly is one of the best rock singers of all time. Often overlooked because of the bands image, Paul never gets the credit he’s due for his vocal talents. There are so many great examples in the KISS catalogue - and the dude could BRING it live.
Thank you for taking this on. You are in for a real deal treat. During the nineties, for 3 years, Paul Stanley played the role of the Phantom in the Toronto production of The Phantom Of The Opera. The studio version of this song was recorded in 1982. This live version is done 13 years later in 1995 and, imo, definitely has much more energy and passion from Paul than the studio recording. ❤ this arrangement. Good luck with your career.
Stanley was born in 1952, so he's in his early 40s here. Should be during the prime of his life, when experience and talent match. And you can hear it in his voice.
Greatest rock star ever born on? That was in his prime, but he still wrote. The song conducted the song. Did everything sing it? The album was different, but that performance was even better. Paul in his prime was one of the best rock vocalists ever. This song is one of their best and probably their best ballad. He did play the Phantom Of The Opera for a stint in Toronto, there are some UA-cam videos of that where you can hear him singing and he does a really good job at it as well.
I've never been a huge Kiss fan but I always thought Paul and Gene had good singing voices. The original lineup took a lot of flak as they were not the most technically proficient band on their instruments so it's cool to see someone with classical training giving Paul props on his vocal technique, he is pretty underrated as a vocalist. Great reaction, really enjoyed it!
Hello Aaliyah! I would really like you to review this song by Dream Theater, Illumination theory, it might shake you up a lot ua-cam.com/video/OaUbq3fghWQ/v-deo.html @@AaliyahCapili
Paul Stanley, one of the greatest rock singers ever. People seem disappointed that at, 71 he's not as great as he was when he was younger, holy cow, people get old, but in his prime, he was as good as any of the other greats in any genre of music, he did sing opera, phantom of the opera anyway. he could have been an opera singer if that had been his desire. this is definitely one of his best showcase songs for his voice. just unbelievable.
Great review. There is a Vevo KISS video singing "I was made for loving you" which shows a much higher range from Paul Stanley's voice from 1979. His voice was truly amazing. I believe you would enjoy it. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so happy you finally got to this video thank you for your wonderful reaction I’ve been waiting for a long time this make my day It’s Christmas morning what a great gift have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year may God bless you
Hi Aaliyah, did you know Paul was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera? In 1999, Stanley joined the cast as the Phantom in a Toronto production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. Also He has a solo project he did a couple years back Called the Paul Stanley Power Station, does great Motown covers and they are so good. Plus check out his Solo Album from 1978 he has a ballad on the second side called Hold Me,Touch Me you have to check out. aw heck you'd probably love the entire album. Thanks for the video it's great to see young ppl being opened up to the music I grew up on. Be Safe Be Happy.
All sung by Paul Stanley. Listen to "nowhere to run", (the album & demo version-the demo version is better as far his voice is concerned) "magic touch" "a million to one" "my way" "I'll fight hell to hold you", "reason to live", "love in chains", "sword and stone" and "silver spoon"... I'm sure I'm missing more. If you're interested to hear when his voice really started to blossom, watch the 1980 Sydney concerts
Someone may have already commented that Paul Stanley was born with only 1 ear. So does all of this without the stereo hearing capabilities most others have. Amazing
The singer Paul Stanley played the part of the Phantom of the Opera during part of it's run at the Princess Margaret Theatre in Toronto in the mid to late 90's
Paul Stanley was one of the top vocalists in the 70s-2000s. He actually did a run as the Phantom of The Opera. Sadly age has taken its toll and he can no longer hit those high notes anymore as he's going to be 72 in January.
Yep. Paul was outstanding. Unfortunately his and Gene's greed knew no bounds. They overstayed their welcome for 20+ years and destroyed their own legacy. Way to go, guys!👎
Hi Aaliyah. I like your updated channel. He definitely does not want to break up ha ha. Love your reaction. Fun to hang out with you and music. Thanks for sharing.
I would stack Paul Stanley's voice in his prime against ANY rock singers voice. Astonishing vibrato and power. This is his "power song"... akin to Don Dokken's "Alone Again", which the 1995 Japan video is a must-watch for another example of a power ballad done right. Both are powerhouse performances.
When I saw this streaming for the very first time I was younger than you are; automatically I wanted to imitate Paul's vocal performance... the result: I was dumb for a week! I insist young lady: you should make a video with you singing nowadays; you sing preciously!
So happy to see a reaction to this song. This Unplugged album was probably KISS at their best. Paul had surgery on his vocal chords, and never really regained his power. This was probably the beginning of the end as far as his top level vocal work. I think the relaxed atmosphere, the acoustic versions of their catalogue, all leaned in to helping make this, what I personally consider, one of the best KISS albums.
Kiss on 'MTV Unplugged' was a chance to play their classic songs in acoustic format... "I still love you" was a slower song from 1982 - Paul Stanley (guitar/ vocals) said he wrote the song about heartbreak when he discovered that his then-girlfriend actress Donna Dixon was leaving him for actor/ comedian Dan Ackroyd. Kiss never got enough credit for their music because they were know for their iconic image w/ makeup and their explosive stage shows in the 70's... but they were capable of much more than big guitars and blowing up things on stage. Kiss wrote songs that could energize and inspire fans to rock out and enjoy life, which was what they were about. Paul Stanley formed Kiss w/ Gene Simmons (bass/ vocals) and the original band was w/ Peter Criss (drums) and Ace Frehley (lead guitar)... eventually all 4 members sang lead on Kiss songs, but Paul and Gene were the main duo. It was their individual characters and costumes that Kiss assumed w/ makeup that made the band so striking in the 70's and made them a concert attraction. It wasn't until their 1975 double live album 'Alive!' became a hit that Kiss had finally made it commercially successful... By 1977, Kiss was being marketed everywhere in products from makeup kits to pinball machines and even a TV movie... However, drug and alcohol issues eventually led to Peter Criss leaving Kiss in 1980 as the band's popularity in N. America was waning because of their disco phase ... Ace Frehley left Kiss in 1982. Paul and Gene attempted to tour w/ new members Eric Carr (drums) and Vinnie Vincent (lead guitar), but the last US tour in makeup was a disaster. So, Paul Stanley decided that Kiss needed to be relaunched in 1983 without the makeup... Kiss appeared on MTV without makeup for the first time promoting the album 'Lick it up'... and it worked. Kiss was reborn in the 80's and saw the band playing arenas again, but Vinnie Vincent was replaced in 1984... Lead guitarist Mark St. John joined briefly, but was replaced by Bruce Kulick (lead guitar). Sadly, after a successful run in the 80's, longtime drummer Eric Carr was diagnosed w/ cancer in 1991 and passed away late that year while Kiss were recording a new album 'Revenge' ... Eric Singer (drums) joined Kiss in 1992 and this was the line-up w/ Paul, Gene and Bruce in 1995 that played 'MTV Unplugged'... they played an encore w/ Peter Criss and Ace Frehley joining them and that sparked a possibility of reuniting the original Kiss. Kiss announced their reunion tour in full makeup and costumes in 1996 W/ Ace and Peter... The tour was a massive success worldwide, but difficulties within the band would not sustain Kiss past 2001... Following a contract dispute, Eric Singer (drums) rejoined Kiss performing in Peter Criss' makeup... Tommy Thayer (lead guitar) assumed Ace's character in 2002 due to the guitarist's drug abuse and tardiness on tour. Peter Criss did return for 2003 when Kiss played in Australia w/ a full symphonic orchestra for the live album 'Alive IV'... but Eric Singer replaced Criss permanently in 2004. Kiss toured consistently until their final tour that ended in 2023.
Kiss has performed with Symphanys, Orchestras etc... All over the world. Another good band to check out is Skid Row. Their lead singer Sebastian Bach believe it or not was trained in classical music as a child. Their song called "Wasted Time" really portrays his vocal ability.
Hello, Aaliyah! I dare to recommend that you listen the song from this link to appreciate other aspects of Paul's voice. Also from the rest of the members, since they play with their voices in a very nice way. Check the minute 3:10 to the end. ua-cam.com/video/qrn6GcDMHBY/v-deo.html One more thing: Paul played The Phantom Of The Opera. Regards from Argentina!
There is another crazy Paul Stanley live performance called "Strutter" from Donnington in 1988. He is wailing on that one compared to the studio version.
Paul Stanley was clearly still in top form during this performance, & it proves what a talented & skilled vocalist he was.

Thanks so much for sharing all of these
Kiss has performed with Symphanys, Orchestras etc... All over the world. Another good band to check out is Skid Row. Their lead singer Sebastian Bach believe it or not was trained in classical music as a child. Their song called "Wasted Time" really portrays his vocal ability.
😍😍😍
I love the Album- Version of this Song from 1982 , OK, KISS was 1980 on of my first Heavy Metal Band

Hello, Aaliyah! I dare to recommend that you listen the song from this link to appreciate other aspects of Paul's voice. Also from the rest of the members, since they play with their voices in a very nice way. Check the minute 3:10 to the end. ua-cam.com/video/qrn6GcDMHBY/v-deo.html
One more thing: Paul played The Phantom Of The Opera. Regards from Argentina!
Thanks so much for your recommendation and for sharing💕

Paul the voice Stanley
🌺
There is another crazy Paul Stanley live performance called "Strutter" from Donnington in 1988. He is wailing on that one compared to the studio version.
