I'm happy you're still making content!
Thanks, I think it's been more than a year! More to come...
Keep on making more videos. I love em. And so do many others:) keep it up!
This channel is very underrated
Interesting Ed, didn't know you had videos on the subject. Left you a voice mail tonight. Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Bruce Towell
glad to see you back
I have them listed now! Check my eBay listing, at this link:

I find it a bit annoying that the Chancellor has no padding. Can't they put a knights head on the rook?
Thanks for your message. Yes, alas, there is not padding on the inverted rook's head. That piece has become a sort of icon for the game -- so it may not go away soon ... but there are some alternate designs coming soon so players can choose what works best for them. This link will take you to new items ... when we have them: www.evenbetterchess.com
Question: where did you find the printable board?
Nice video. Except for the part where you put the board together incorrectly :)
Thanks Ed, an honest mistake. I like to include a little humility in my presentation. (I thought it was more fun than editing that out :) ...
Thanks again for letting me be a channel for your great game
I really want to inquire on the website coming back and maybe buying a chess set of gothic. I wish the popularity had taken off more!
We're trying to bring Gothic Chess out again -- soon we'll have new vinyl playing mats ... also note high quality sets available at House of Staunton, and my own design at AncientChess.com. Hopefully more Gothic soon!
thanks a bunch! sorry for double question
No problem about commenting on more than one thread -- it's good to have the info flowing on all the threads, for whatever viewer happens to pick one up. Send thoughts about Gothic chess or any other of the chesses any time
Rick, I really hope you see this post and are nice enough to respond to my question. I have ordered a set of Gothic (or Capablanca) chess pieces & playing surface from your site. I see your booklet of CVs there at 0:09, but I wanted to ask you about another 10x8 variant I've heard of -- Embassy chess. Are you familiar with it? If so, what is your opinion? How do you feel it compares in quality to Gothic chess? I'd respect your answers. Thank you.
Thanks for the question. From what I can see, the difference between Embassy and Trice's Gothic chess is that the queen and archbishop are interposed. Also, the array is reversed right-to-left from white's or black's perspective.
I'm sorry to say I don't have enough experience or knowledge to compare the two variants. It would be a matter of examining how the pieces develop and what opening threats and defenses are most immediate.
The only variant that I know of which has been thoroughly analyzed and tried in many games at high levels is Trice's chess ... but it would be interesting to see a deep analysis of Embassy as well.
@@rickknowlton9990 Truly appreciate the response. I'm sure you're busy and you took the time. Appreciated. BTW, the chess set & board came in the mail today. I'm excited to play it with my father, hopefully tomorrow!
It's great to hear you've got it going on! Leave comments any time. I'll be away for a couple weeks, so don't mind my silence in that time. Have great games!
@@rickknowlton9990 Rick, my aged father and I have been playing GC regularly since my order came and we're both just loving it! I just leave the board & pieces at his place and have ordered another set from your site. Had one question: I saw that evidently Ed Trice put together a little book I see pictured called "How to Play Gothic Chess". If you have a copy could you include that in the order? If not, that's fine. I thought it might give some good playing tips.
i don't see this set on your site or ebay.
Sorry! Getting it listed ASAP! Will try to do tomorrow (Monday)...

Hi Rick, I'll be able to get some nice foam rubber boards soon. I'll keep you posted.
Ed, that's great! What do you mean 'rubber'? Like those silicone boards that hit the market a few years ago? Or more like the good old vinyl? Anyway, I know you'll keep me informed and I'll want some
The surface of the board is waterproof. The underside is thinner than a mousepad, but similarly, the board, once rolled up or wrinkled or deliberately malformed for demonstration purposes, will NEVER "remember" or retain a subset of its previous shape. It always "expands" out perfectly flat. It is the most awesome material ever to make a board out of, because anything can become a carrying case for it.
..and, if I understand correctly, anything can become a package for it! This is very important to me because I can easily spend 5 to 10 dollars -- or more -- EXTRA to ship something that doesn't fold into a neat Flat Rate box or envelope. (And I would NEVER fold a vinyl mat, as I have sometimes seen people do -- CRINGE!) This material you've got sounds perfect!!
It is. You can try and compress it to fit into your fist and it will spring out like one of those joke snakes in a tennis ball canister. Never wrinkles. Also stain resistant.
Hey! What is that material called?
i see u fixed the black borders
Yeah, I'm not sure what I did differently in the settings. I'll try to keep it the same....
AncientChess it looks much better now, also its nice to see u back
