    Rules
    The rules are the same as regular chess except for these changes. For a refresher of those rules, check out this video. During the game each player is allowed to perform 1 illegal move by creating a new rule that both players must follow for the rest of the game. You may only create your rule while it is your turn, and you may only create 1 rule. The rule may only apply to 1 piece, and it must be the piece you are currently moving, in the illegal way you are moving it. After you perform your illegal move you must state out loud the rule you are creating. Your rule applies to all the pieces of the same type on the board, as well as future promotions, regardless of who controls them. You may not create limitations on which pieces are affected by your rule. Your rule may not limit or change a piece’s traditional chess moves, but you may add movement to it. Your rule may not allow pieces to capture more than 1 piece a turn. Your rule may not affect a piece that is out of play, so that you add it to the board, apart from promotions. Your rule may not result in your immediate victory on the turn you created it, and your rule may not negate, change, or alter your opponent’s rule. Rules that are created around specific locations on the board are mirrored for their opponent. For example, if Black’s rule is that pawns promote on the 6th row, then White’s pawns would promote on the 3rd row.
    You may not create a rule to escape checkmate or make checkmate impossible. The first player to checkmate their opponent. Wins.

    I have a chess varient idea called "outlands chess"
    The game plays exactly the same , but the difference is that you can move a piece off the board and it goes to an imaginary space called "The outlands" .
    You can place the piece from the outlands on any empty space on the board .
    You can have up to two piece on the outlands .
    Pieces don't move nor capture in the outlands .
    Your pieces only enter the outlands from your opposite side of the board .
    You can only keep a piece in the outlands for three turns , after that they get automatically captured .
    when you place a piece back on the board , you can do it to give a ckeck/checkmate , or capture a piece of the same type as the piece being placed .
    the first player to checkmate thier opponent wins .
    Edit : Thank you for all the likes , this is the highest that i got so far

    Play as black, opponent moves a pawn. Your rule “when 8 pawns are in a vertical or horizontal line they all promote to queens”
    Knock out one rook (or knight or bishop) then on your turn make the rule “the rook can move to any square on the board and take out any piece on it, except a square where king is (to not violate the checkmate rule)” and use your rook to take out their remaining rook, giving you alone the power to snipe any piece.

  • @EdKolis
    @EdKolis 4 місяці тому

    I guess a variant would be blind cheaters chess or Mao chess, in which you don't announce your new rule but write it down secretly and your opponent has to figure out what it is; if they make a move that is against the rules then they miss a turn. Like if I move a rook two squares diagonally forward and then my opponent takes that as an opportunity to move their rook three squares diagonally backward then that might or might not be allowed by my rule depending on how I phrased it!
    So it's a decision between giving yourself more options for future moves (rooks can move like bishops) and tripping up your opponent (rooks can move diagonally forward exactly two squares provided that they are on a dark square on the third rank... .)

    Wait
    "All pawns promote on the 2nd rank"
    Now every pawn promotes. Mayham in the beginning.
    "Kings can move as queens" does follow earlier established allowances, 1 piece gains the moveset of another. So...

    Is the rule "you can't make rules that make checkmates impossible" even computable? For example, is "king can move like a queen" ok? Like a rook? Like a bishop?

    • @Xboxiscrunchy

      New rule: kings can capture any non king piece on the board.
      It’s not technically impossible. Double rooks can still checkmate for example but good luck trying to actually do it.

    • @krauq
      @krauq Рік тому

      @user-xp8jx6fp7s Those can be a problem too. But some rules make checkmate impossible, unlike their appearance (i.e. a combination of specific rules & positions). And these methods will be used as a 'cheat key' which makes balancing harder

    you may create a rule to escape checkmate
    your rule may allow pieces to capture more than one piece
    you may make checkmate impossible
    your rule may result in your immediate victory
    you may negate change or alter your opponent’s rule
