- This is a classic 1969 Camaro. It looks like a sleeper, but does not sound like one. Tom takes us on an exciting ride with this modest looking car. This car really moves! More at nelsonracingengines.com and nelsonsupercars.com. More cars and engines coming up in the next few weeks. Stay tuned. Also Visit VeritasMovieStudio.com.

I'm actually at a loss for words in trying to convey just how sweet this engine sounds as it's going through the gears. We have a '69 Camaro DZ 302 in the family, and as much as I hate to admit it, this one sounds even better. Excellent job as usual by the talented staff at Nelson Racing Engines. Thanks for sharing your 'ride' with us!!
You
This engine sounds so well-balanced. The rev-up from idle to redline sounds absolutely hiccup-free. Bravo.
There's a lot to be said about simplicity. 100% pure hotrod ... looks and feels it ... fucking small block that sounds like a big block. I'm fucking in love.
Winters is the original intake manufacture not Winchester. Also the emblem on the intake is supposed to be a snowflake, for winters.
@Whitey PowersA 69 ZL1 there's really nothing more to say, a person has better odds getting struck by lightening than owning a aluminum 69 427 vet.
What do you expect from a guy with no shoelaces in his racing shoes.....lol
I heard the factory only made two 1969 ZL1 Vettes, A white one and a black one.
@Whitey Powers I have tried to find out just how many z-l1 vets were built or even sold during that era the records or very sketchy maybe 4-6 were built to test and beat on other than that who knows, and the copo folks at gm prob weren't thinking about how rare and expensive these cars were going to be today and its really not about the car its the 427 that racers wanted, any engine that could put out that kind of power and weigh less than a 327 was gobbled up by anyone who could afford it. The real ? is how many engines not cars were built? I have seen and heard of that engine in everything from boats to cars. If I were you I would be driving that car to all the shows.
@Whitey Powers A ZL-1 and a L-6 wow man the vet alone unrestored you could retire add the 70 chevelle ss that's what I call fuk u money, you really need to research what these cars are worth unrestored unless you already have done so especially the vet the last time I checked the zl1 vet was 800 thousand to a million restored, both of these cars are very rare, and their are so many people out there who are addicted with trying to find these cars and pay big $$, I watched Steve McQueen's Bullitt hero car being sold for 1.5m and that car was just a 390 s code mustang but just because Steve drove that car made it worth over a million, I am not a ford man but that car was rare just like both of your Chevy's I hope you do keep and restore these two power houses, wow man just plain wow you have a good one and try and stay between the ditches.
I have a new dream car, I can't get over the sound. Absolutely amazing
The one thing I love no hesitation.
Only in my dreams I would ever own a car like that. I appreciate you posting videos like these!
Real sick build! Very nice! :)
how could anybody thumbs down this ? wicked bumper to bumper
Because if anyone in the world should know that the aluminum parts for GM came from the Winters Foundry, it should be this guy. Winchester? That is just embarrassing.
I love watching this video. Not only because it's an awesome car but really brings back memories. I used to live right down the street from there and we used to terrorize Winnetka back in the 70's on a regular basis!
This is the best sounding Camaro ever! Love what you guys at Nelson Racing do!
Have seen this video many times too. Still cool to watch. My favorite year Camaro too. These are not just mechanics, these are master craftsman that build these incredible engines.
I'm 61 yrs old and had one of these back in the day. It's so nice to see someone who can go through the gears smoothly if they want to. I'm sick of hearing "drivers" that (when trying to shift smoothly) chirp the tires (sliding) by not having enough rpm when they shift. It's like, "Damn son, if you can't beat that sell (or give) that car to someone who can drive"! What a waste!
If you want to see that car for 3 or 4K let me know! In fact, I might take several at that price! :-)
Stan in N AL
This car is so bad ass!! What an amazing engine!! Well done Tom keep up the good work my friend!!
I love all of the nre videos. AWESOME STUFF
That throttle response is soooo kick ass!
awsome car, very clean and well cared for, and the sleeper work done to the motor was the cherry on top
This is a real car. Nelson did a great job on this. I prefer cubic inches and not super chargers.
At 3:36, I do love the way this things sounds when it revs! Sounds great!!
I have watched this clip many times.....never get tired of it.....love this shit! Something about old school burnouts that brings back memories.
beautiful work, Tom.
I own a prius and enjoyed this video.
That is what a Camaro should be, that's a f****** sweet ride. I love the sleeper look with the engine. My friend you have made a masterpiece.
I DRIVE A $40,000 CAR. Got it brand new in 2013..I did tons of resurch ,test driven a ton, did it all to make sure I buy the best car in its class for me to be happy wth NO regrets. IM OLD SCHOOL & always wil be......I WANT A 69 HOT ROD AGAIN....Daaaam....just the sound of them cars is worth more than any new car. I drive a computer chip and it sucks.Cars dont need all that shit on it ,60 buttons to push...FOR WHAT? fuck it Im going back and getting me a 69 ss,...Pontiac GTO 1967...maybe a 68 Chevelle.....Love that DZ..Great drive & video
ON TODAY'S EPISODE OF: Awesome Shit I can't afford yet.....*puts another dollar in savings*
+Shannon Kinchen Don't fret, first time I watched this video I was still in the midst of trying to find a 69 at a reasonable price. Looked for over a decade. Finally snagged a decent driver condition 69 last Friday. Bide the time, stack the cash. :)
clean, nice, sits on the road perfect. 427 is THE ultinmate motor .....awesome job man! Thanks for the ride, lots of memories for this old guy!
Impressive machine, the sound is just perfect.
Sounds like I'm back in the 70's my teen years. And here's a guy not scared to Punch that Sucker.! I still build for Compression and RPM's. Love it.!
I believe in building for compression and rpms
All your creations are beasts!!! that kick ass!
I love the fact that the factory dress was utilized to make it look stock but run like the beast that it looks like it was supposed to be !
That thing is so cool.
So are you guys...Fantastic stuff.:)
That is the absolute best balanced and sounding engine ever! not a single rattle or pop.
Mr. Nelson..YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!! I love the way you narrate your videos and best of all your drive that shit LIKE A MAN!!!!
Returning here, to reminisce what radicalness some of us cruised in, back in the ‘80’s!💪😎🇺🇸
what a sweet car ! ! ! love the sound
as always clean n true with a nelson touch..
Tom's the man, awesome!
My all time favourite video
Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Sure miss all of the great driving videos
Love the little squeaky clutch sound.
Nice job Tom.
Cool. "WORKED" LOL Why did it take me so long to find this video. Former owner of a '69 Z28 back in '73. I want another one.
Rear bumper guards would be a nice touch since they were standard on a "real" Z28.
Lester Kring you are correct
Man, that thing barks! Love the sound of a good strong NA motor.
Me too
What a beauty! My dream car I will never get.
thank you, luv that car.
this guy doesn't fuck around, he takes his fun seriously.
I am in aww. My ultimate favorite Camaro of all!
That thing sounds incredible
Beautiful Car !
I'm digging the OEM look. I bought my uncle's 69 SS with a 427 BBC. We built a nasty 496 and fixed it up to look stock, similar to this.. It also has a hidden direct port nitrous injection system and it's made me alot of money on the streets. They know what's up when I strap my go pro on the roof and purge the nitrous. They know they f****** up
This is what i look up to. I dream of having something that sounds as powerful as the engines you create. When i graduate high school, i want to be just like these guys. Having crazy powerful cruisers and opening them up on the road so i can turn heads when i ride through the neighborhood to show what a real car is
I just want to say Nelson NRE build the best cars hands down.
I'd just like to sit out in front of his shop and watch these test runs lol. Amazing engines for sure. I'd like to have one of the 355 twin turbo's !
C'mon Santa - bring it!
So AWESOME sounding! I couldn’t afford to keep tires on it if I had it! Lol
Sounds so sick !
@djbarnstar haha nice!! I was laughing about your post when Tom lit em up!
You know I had a couple really funny prius comments and after reading one page of comments, I think all of you guys got it pretty much covered.
I may be in the minority, but I love the dark metallic greens that look almost black until they get in direct sunlight
The Sound of Music to ones ears !
the car is just what i love, style and power its a power house love it.
This is why i like chevy, ford and everything in between, i haven't seen a video of you guys doing a GTR35, I'll keep on looking
Man that sounds good!
Actually it's called a Winters intake...Valve covers are on upside down..Other than that it sounds great...
This guy knows how to drive as well. He handles the car and it does not handle him. Nice car and nice job.
Nelson racing engines is king
I've seen you testing out cars, I work in Northridge/Chatsworth. Mean sounding cars man,,,
Amazingly dialed in.
Typo.1968 MO,1969 DZ.Not available in 1967,But that 327 was pretty tough.Love Em All...
Actually there was an mo 302 available in 67,they made 602 of them and they had mono leaf springs and no z/28 markings, they were in rally sport trim. The rarest of all z/28`s.
Thanks for the info.I know all 67s had leaf springs and the Z-28 was actually an RPO number and the first 67 Camaros were actually built in 66 to compete in the Trans America races.Smokey Yunick and Donahue/Penske kicked ass with the new Beast.
"That's fu(king nasty" , Spoken like a man after my own heart.
nice car .nice rake to it
what a beast! baddest and clean looking camaro i've seen.... and giving her shit against the most controversive car to these muscle cars, a prius, gave me chills...
It even looks stock under the hood other than the headers, but I love it. This is the way to do it, keep the factory look.
Awesome motor in a sweet car. Does it have good brakes too ?
Just another sick job by NRE. I'm not real motor savvy but would love to find an old car and throw one of these motors in it.
I've got a '69 that im restoring with my dad, it was a 4-speed car, man I can't wait till I can actually drive it! But I have to buy the rest of the restoration parts and build a jig, and it'll be about 3 years of measuring, cutting, welding and numerous other things.
The motor sounds so good... !!!
very nice camaro. one thing thought. on the driver side valve cover you have it upside down. the flag poles are pointing up instead of down and be closer to the firewall. other than that great job!
awesome car
THAT INTAKE IS NOT A ''winchester'' intake- IT IS AN CASTING BY THE WINTERS FOUNDRY! THE W- WITH THE SNOWFLAKE AROUND IT IS THE WINTERS FOUNDRY TRADEMARK
bill thibault It killed me when he called the 472 intake manifold a "Winchester" !
Even us FORD guys know it's Winter's not Winchester..Cant believe he doesn't know this..
yup
Yeah....I hear you guys....but he can call it what he wants.....Winchester or Winters......he's got hotrod running through his veins and most likely when it comes to building hotrods....none of us would be a pimple on his ass!
That’s America brother Bad ass ride
@parkerdonald1 Chevrolet produced a special 302 cu in. engine for Trans Am racing from 1967-1969. It was the product of placing the 3-inch stroke crankshaft into a 4-inch bore block. The 302 used the same crank as the 283. When the journal size increased to the standard medium journal size, the crankshaft for the 302 was specially built of forged steel. This engine was used only in the first-generation Camaro Z28. Conservatively rated at 290 hp, actual output was around 376 hp. This block is o
No. No it really doesn't ever get old. Even after years it makes you crack a smile just about time you turn her over.
See my other comment. Man, that sucker can flat lay a LOOOOOONNNNG patch of rubber in at least 3 of the 4 gears, lol. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Like I said in my other comment, the front of the heads give it away, but other than that, as far as appearance, he did a first rate job in makin' it look like the little 302........but this thing will eat any 302........and many other BIG motors for that matter. I just love a normally aspirated engine. ALL MOTOR. No frills......no turbo's.......just RAW MEAT. Dig it.
Awesome !!!!!!!
that 100% perfection.
Sickening!
NICE!! appears to be a fathom green (code 57) x77 car, from my house appears to have the factory 4 leaf rear springs - unique to the z28 only, it sure beats the large journal all round rear flange 3.00 stroke steel chevy crank i only hope you saved the "186" heads, there's nothing wrong with stroking it!! i do it every day
Had one of those ‘69 SS, wish I had it back
the first generation Camaros were available with a 302ci engine... if im not mistaken it was a 327 block with a 283 crank... if u can find one with matching numbers engine,,, youve hit the lottery my friend!
finally no twin turbos
8 turbos, an octurbo
Forced because not good enough😗
That is awesome!!!!
Love how fast the rpm’s drop
Great car.
Oh yeah! The throttle response on that small block is just killer! Simple modern tech well sorted NA carbureted horsepower!.....
very nice
That thing moves!
Nice. It sounds just nasty and I love the sleeper look to it.
it's a Winters intake
