Yeah! Everyone else seems to have done the 1982 version from the Hammersmith Odeon. But the Rock in Rio 2001 version is also great. I'd choose the latter one.
Epic! This was from a poem by, I think, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. I remember when this song came out, I was in HS. My English teacher, Ms. Hoagle, played this for us. She was awesome. You could tell the headbangers were singing along and banging their heads, while all the others stared stupidly at nothing in particular. Good memories, Thanks man! Where Eagles Dare Hallowed Be Thy Name The Trooper Flight of Icarus
🍁Just like Nightwish, Maiden sounds better LIVE!!! Back in the '80s, I seen them live 9 times and met Steve Harris once. The '80s are the golden age of Metal.🤘
i hate the '82 version , blame it on the camera man during adrians solo , he focused on bruce playing air guitar instead of showing adrian. that alone makes that version crap.
Honestly dude, in my opinion this is Iron Maiden's best song, and their best version of it as well. You have no idea how much I love seeing other peoples reaction to this version, especially when the musical tension explodes in the middle part with all the solos and fireworks! Welcome to the Maiden family dude, if you want any more Maiden songs I'd strongly encourage: Dance Of Death (Studio for the solos, Live for the overall experience), When The Wild Wind Blows (Studio or Live), Hallowed Be Thy Name Live Fear Of The Dark Rock In Rio 2001, Sign Of The Cross Rock In Rio 2001 Caught Somewhere In Time (Studio) Paschendale Live, Alexander The Great. That's honestly just a handful, cause there's a lot of Maiden to get through. If you do even one of these songs based on this list I'll be happy!
This always reminds me of some of my contemporaries who took up reading Coleridge thanks to this track. Up until that point, they wouldn't have appreciated the suggestion they read poetry of any stripe.
*_"Hallowed be thy name"_* is only one of the greatest Metal songs of all time! Admittedly it's over reacted to, but for a good reason. It's kinda compulsory If you're doing _Maiden._ Another true classic, one that almost everyone misses is *_"Revelations."_* Chur from NZL.

Hahahahah yes, there's hope!! This is an excellent way of introducing yourself to Iron Maiden's longer songs, I'd recommend Alexander The Great and Empire Of The Clouds too.
I’ve been blessed to see Iron Maiden live at least 8 times, first time on the Seven Son of the Seven Son tour at the Forum in Inglewood California, and I have never been disappointed, last time on The Legacy of the Beast tour, September, 2019 , unbelievable show. Catch the live if you can. 😊
Saw them a couple of weeks ago, they were amazing. First saw them over 35 years ago. Every member is in their 60s now, hell the drummer is 67, and they just kill it. They actually never were on the radio much back in the day, but developed one of the most loyal fan bases, and filled arenas every night because their music is great, and their concerts are amazing. And yeah half the crowd in the arena a couple of weeks ago were young.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (originally The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere) is the longest major poem by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, written in 1797-98 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. Maiden pretty frequently used literature and historic topics in their songs, e.g. "The loneliness of the long-distance runner", "Alexander the Great", "The Trooper", "Aces High", "Revelations", ...
There's some stuff competition for that top spot. I love Iron Maiden. I really do. But I am not convinced that song takes #1. With songs like Painkiller, Paranoia, anything off the Ride the Lightning album, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and so many others... how to decide??? Anyway, it's all subjective in the end, I suppose. 🤘😁🤘
Fun fact... Steve Harris (Bass player, founder, main composer/songwriter) likes composing long and epic track, and is a big fan of..... Tuomas Holopainen... ;-) One of his favorite songs is.... "The poet and the Pendulum" Everything happens for a reason :-)
Watching this reaction, to the most epic song, of the most epic heavy metal band of all time, was worth every second brother. Bruce Dickinson would be proud of you man.
Your enthusiasm brings me back to when this album came out. 1984, I was16 years old. You are right, there is hope. I don't think anyone in this audience was alive then (and probably not you). Kick ass!
Dude.... Ive been listening (and a show in the Igloo 80's). Iron Maiden are incredible..... If I had kids they would be fans... but what most miss is the HISTORY lessons you get from them. If you listen to this song ... Just read the Poem.... and yes, they sound amazing live and they tour somewhere almost every year and get better with age

I watched same song reaction video by someone else and he said at the end that it's like Iron Maiden just decided to "Fuck up the world for 13 minutes" I never heard it said like that, but he's right! lol
@@MrRockNRollLive I almost forgot to mention that during thanksgiving with my family when we exchange a few things were thankful for in our life, this song has made list cut for many years now! lol. True Story!
Iron Maiden one of my favs of all times, had the chance to see them live twice and OMG... Powerslave from Flight 666 DVD is from their first concert in Costa Rica, and Oh boy it was epic!
Heath I have seen this band live here in Finland at least six times for now. Nico is so bad ass behind drums, and Fly Captain Bruce deliver good show always! Not forgetting rest of pro band members! 🤘🤘
The look on his face when the solo section drops is priceless. Going along with it, headbanging, and then realising how epic those chords are right before Adrians solo. Insane!
During 'the Quiet Bit' on the Powerslave tour, in the heat of Sacramento; so hot they were burning their fingers on their strings, Nico McBrain, the drummer went for a swim in the open air pool behind the venue's stage
This is the song that made me pick up the bass. Saw them at Long Beach Arena in '84 on the Friday night they filmed for Live After Death. Love this version, watching Steve Harris really into it and then when he looks over at the 3 "kids" and smiles. Priceless!
As others have mentioned, the inspiration for the song and the source of most of the lyrics is the epic poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, first published in 1798.
Dance of Death is another great song of theirs. But honestly I like all of it. Also, check out Amon Amarth Raise Your Horns. There is a lovely surprise near the end of the video. And speaking of lovely, Nightwish Stargazers live at Tampere. Keep rocking!
Flight 666 is one the best performances by this band.....they are so damn legendary. Nobody is better, nobody. They have the best songs, the best album art, the best melodic riffs and solos, and they have fucking Bruce Dickinson.....
Hallowed Be Thy Name, To Tame a Land, Powerslave, Aces High, Two Minutes to Midnight, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Caught Somewhere In Time, The Evil That Man Do, Tailgunner, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Alexander The Great, Ghost of the Navigator...
I just noticed you only react to live songs? Or at least music videos I guess. Yeah, because although some of the songs above are fan favorites, Iron Maiden NEVER plays live To Tame a Land, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Alexander the Great. I've been listening to this song since the release of the Powerslave album and of course Live After Death. I've seen Maiden quite a few times throughout the past 40 years including this tour and this song, this version still gives me goosebumps.. I recommend you react to The Clansman from Rock in Rio 3, Paschendale from Death on the Road & Hallowed be Thy Name from Rock in Rio 3.
When listening to this song you really should have the lyrics since it's a pretty harrowing story and they're telling it so well! This has been my favorite Maiden song since it came out so many years ago. God, i'm old :-D

Iron maiden is one ,if not, the best bands to see live. Can't say enough.

Alexander the great is great because it tells a historical story and facts.
