If there's one C.L. Werner novel I'd recommend it's Palace of the Plague Lord. A great party-of-adventures-on-a-quest story, but in this case the adventures are all chaos worshipers. His Grey Seer Thanquol books are must reads too.

yeah there are a couple of mentions of chapters donig it partiucalyly in the old lore, even pics. but they have made a big attempt to have marines say "ewwwww camo is lame bro, check out my colours" it hasnt come up any other way in a novel or other book since the badab wars books to my memory. even the alpha legion dont bother lol
I'd be a bit surprised if they dont have programmable paint by then... we're not far off it now, and given the high tech allowed to the Marines (micro fusion reactors, power armour etc), colour changing, programmable paint doesn't seem beyond the pale. So camouflaging would be as simple as persuading the machine spirit to change a setting.

Some chapters do use camo, there's several stories about scouts making heavy use of it and I think there's an older chapter that's done fully in camo. There are some who are heavily against it though for the reason you gave at the end.

This one really gave me some sympathy for the Inquisition, chalking Chaplains and Astartes up as single-minded simpletons. It’s probably scary how much power they have, like if the snake handlers in my neck of the woods came down from the mountains preaching the faith with top-of-the-line armaments.
The Inquisitor is a superstitious fool too - he believes that anything Horus ever touched (even when his legion was still the Luna Wolves, and before they had any contact with the warp) is riddled with daemons.
About the last point you made, on using camouflage on their chapter colors, I do think that 1st ed rules stated that chapters did . However that was a long , long time ago. the inquisitor was indeed a fool. if he wanted to salvage the relic he should have called the mechanicum to retrieve it for him, not a chaplain included task force of space marines in camo painted armor... they have a very narrow definition of honor... so it is said...

A number of chapters like the White scars and especially the Raven guard would not hesitate to camouflage themselves in order to sneak by or get close to their targets.

And they are a 2nd Founding Raven Guard successor, not that far removed from their parent Legion. So while unusual, camouflage isnt an impossibility with even full Astartes, nevermind Scouts.

Concealed Positions and Camo Cloaks • Wolf Scouts (Index Imperium 1, p.154), the Pack Leader included Concealed Positions and Camo Cloaks Not in rule but I found a mention to Deathwatch sharpshooters using Camo Cloaks (Deathwatch: Rites of Battle, p. 145) And let lot forget about Roboute Guilliman (Codex Man) new crew • Eliminators Concealed Positions and Camo Cloaks • Infiltrator Squad Concealed Positions, No Camo Cloak though I suppose if you are always hiding behind a wall, you don’t need to scout (LMAO) 😉

That was an extra case of grim dark and I have no respect or appreciation for this chapter of Marines. 50:00 This is an inexcusable butchering of innocent imperial citizens and PDF forces there's no reason but they should be doing this they can get into the palace and out of the palace with the gun and kill the people at the top who are actually responsible within an hour or less. This is despicable behavior on the part of space marines. The War Bringers should be sentence to a penance crusade into the eye of terror.

I find the theme of the story a bit overdone. They killed off a shit ton of people including arbites and crippled the defenses and leadership of an entire planet. For a rusty bolt pistol dropped by another primarch who was loyal at the time. Inquisition would have easily had arbites on deck standing by...then by just demanding it be handed over likely would have gotten it.they teleported 5 terminators to the governor's dining hall...that much destruction and interference ....bro I really thought when the chaplain told the inquisitor to fuck off that all these marines were gonna say ' I am alpharius'

you keep saying alpha legion dont use camo and that makes perfect sense when u consider the fact alpha legion would more prefer to wear there enemies colors/armour to infiltrate as it makes more sense to look like the enemy then to look go with a camo pattern that is really only going to help u in certain fights. You also gotta look at what space marines are suppose to be which is shock troops there designed to cause terror just by there very presence so using camo to hide themselves would kinda heavily negate that benefit especially when fighting mere humans.
