I’ve watched several of these videos now and don’t usually comment. However, this explanation of force and energy is making my hair hurt! All that quick bat flip is doing is getting the bat in the proper swing plane . All the energy is coming from the potential energy stored in the coiled torso, which is then converted to kinetic (mechanical) energy as you uncoil/rotate through the hips against your feet fixed at the ground. The “force” has to be in the direction of the incoming ball “at contact” or the ball will go no where. That’s just simple physics and more specifically called momentum. If you graphed your swing force it would look like a sin wave, starting at zero at the beginning of your swing maximizing at mid point and ending at zero again. The key to being a good hitter , for power that is, beyond just having excellent hand eye coordination, is timing your swing so the peak force, at the top of the sin wave, is at the point of contact as you uncoil. This is why it’s important to keep your weight back so you do not lose the stored potential energy in the transfer of weight from back to front foot and maximize it through the rotational kinetic energy which generates the bat speed and corresponding force. Of the force and momentum stays consistent through the swing then it doesn't matter if you connect way back or in front of the plate the impact on the ball will be the same....
This makes a lot of sense. Every once in a while, you see a MLB hitter check swing and break their bat. Announcers laugh and are shocked, but they have to be applying a ton of force before they even get to contact for that to happen.
Cant argue with anything you teach and not to mention, the proof is in the pudding, just look at the season Aaron Judge is having again.Your a great teacher so thank you for sharing so much of your program for free!!
I mean it's not like Aaron Judge plays the majority of his games in a hitters park and isn't I don't know 6'7 282? The fact teacherman bases his hitting approach mainly from Bonds does not suffice in proving his method legitimate.
An athlete in his prime doesn't know enough to effectively pass on his knowledge and experience. How dare you be so quick to condemn the advice of someone who clearly has a shit ton more years experience in baseball, or life in general, than you do? Insolent little welp.
Through it not just to it!!! Most also dont get this happens as ya "turn" while TILTED AT WAIST...if standing tall its "pulling out" or "dipping"...this swing is for somebody that leans over and hits off backleg!
Tony Gwynn didn’t swing out of his shoes every time. I watched him throw the head of the bat out and send the ball down the 5.5 hole for years. He was the best I’ve ever seen.
Never thought of it like that, but it make perfect sense. If you're still applying force at the strike, then you are not striking at your full potential force. You have to apply all available force BEFORE the bat strikes.... Sound almost so simple it's dumb, but here we are
Don't forget if you spend all energy long before it is applied to the ball, the bat speed is slowed down. It is complete bs that the swing is finished at the back position. That bat flip just puts the bat in plane with the ball, the hands of all hitters move forward and the shoulders and hips continue to turn applying energy into the bat until the point just passed the point of contact. It is the same with golf. The point is to hit thru the ball not at or behind the ball for max velocity. This guy exaggerated the "improper swing" just to sell his technique. Literally no one teaches kids to turn like a top finishing around your waist.
That has nothing to do with what this clown is saying. Ted Williams was basically referring to the kinetic chain. Hips ahead of hands, hands ahead of club head.
These are semantics, force=mass*acceleration and momentum=mass*velocity. Saying that you are not applying force is incorrect. A batter would have to have PERFECT momentum and not vary 1/1000th or a m/s otherwise it is a force whether it be negative or positive.
You can practice 10 hours a day and still not even get drafted. Wade Boggs said it best. Either can rake or you can’t. No magic formula on becoming a big leaguer.
As with all sports that involve striking, hitting, kicking (baseball, football, boxing etc) the power doesn't come from your limbs, it comes through your body momentum
@@doml389 I don’t think he hits like this guy lol. This swing and the swing in the video I posted are widely different. ua-cam.com/video/u-e_qXaWgUk/v-deo.html
He's talking about hip movement vs straight arm power. If done correctly the start of the swing along with hip rotation produces all the power and the rest of your body is just catching up. If you really what to look at it in action look at a pro golfers swing in slow motion. You can see the swing start, hips rotate, club flex.....the bodies moving and the arms are catching up.
If he is correct and the swing force and energy are done at the beginning of the swing, if that is true, then your swing is slowing down through impact. I would argue that your swing should accelerate through the impact of the ball.
All of my hitting coaches growing up taught us based on our natural swing. I throw with my right, naturally a left handed hitter but can hit from both sides. I had to learn my swing from both sides of the plate. I batted leadoff every year lefty cause i got on base, drag bunts, hits to the opposite side of the field ECT. If I came up in the middle of the game and I had two people on base I went up righty because that's where my power came from. What we are taught should be based on our natural swings. If we are good enough to play competitively we have a natural swing that works that may need some tweaks. I don't like hitting coaches who try and transform every hitter not based on there natural swings
I played collegiate and profession baseball and it actually takes a massive change in swing biomechanics to play at a high level for most players. Almost every batter has to learn how to externally rotate their trail shoulder while swinging and most guys don’t do it naturally at a level required to play professionally, even many collegiate players. The level of detail in biomechanics is what separates the boys from the men.
@@jordanwatts696 I get what you're saying but that'd mean every professionals swings would look the same. That's what I meant as far as teaching us based on how we naturally swing, I'm talking about people that were already gifted naturally tweaking their hand speed, hips, and legs ECT. Obviously someone uncoordinated would have to learn everything from the ground up. But yeah I get it.
@@redpilljay_32_ I mean technically they are almost all the same coming into impact. There’s more similarities than differences. Even the most naturally gifted usually have to tweak a lot. My pitching coach had me stride a whole extra foot and get my right arm extremely externally rotated and my pelvis tilted in order to gain 6mph. I was already throwing pretty fast, but this took to me another level.
At contact, the great hitters are holding onto the bat so that the bat doesn’t fly away… The best ones, hitters, power and average, are holding on for dear life and made “holding on for dear life” their new normal so that it just feels like they are “just holding on” when in fact they are holding on for dear life. They practiced so much that vulnerable feeling that most have would be completely out of them…
Trust it. Went from 77-84 off the tee to 101 with bbcor 🤷♂️ and like 90 constantly. One thing once you get the strategy down u gonna have so much time. I looked dumb with how much time id had.
I can get on board with a lot of what he teaches but this is just insanely not true. I would love to see Aaron judge say that he doesn’t apply force at contact. Anyone that has ever hit a no doubt home run knows that feeling and that feeling is applying force at contact at the exact right time
The comments saying he doesn’t know what he’s talking about are hysterical. Aaron Judge uses him as a hitting coach in the off-season. Richard Schenck is his name.

Except batting. These mechanics are not working for 99.9% of people at any level. In a decent college level or even good HS level with pitchers clocking even mid 80s w any off speed pitch, he strikes out or maybe weak ground out hes late on. Watch a basketball player shooting free throws. None do it stiff legged. That little bounce is what gets the ball to the hoop. This guy would ruin a round of golf delivering his nonsensical unsolicited advice. You're not a very good hitter...then says you may be a good hitter at the level they play at. How about if that level is the majors asswipe. I like the good old days of baseball when coaches like this weren't taking good natural hitters and trying a one size fits all mentality. Watch Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Babe Ruth, and so on. They had many different approaches and they worked. Hitting is not all about hitting for power. That's the problem with baseball today and why so many strike out chasing shit in the dirt. They've been robbed of their ability to step into a ball a little high & outside. A perfect pitch to drive into the opposite field. They all take the first pitch which is usually their best pitch their going to get. Usually a fastball down the middle. They watch a first strike, get behind in the count & strike out chasing crap in the dirt. I like his...this is what they don't understand. Who's they? Your sons little league players? This guy is great at hitting a ball off a tee. He has to suck facing an actual pitcher. A stretched leg...what is that. And if your not applying force at contact he says. You better be applying force at contact. What a complete windbag!
I agree and see what your saying but all the coaches/hitting trainers my son has gone to want follow throw and diggin deep on that front foot which he just can’t do . He has always swung how you teach and is an amazing hitter. Reason I have him training is to improve his timing but now they want to change all his mechanics… and he swings like you teach!
You have to follow through. The bat literally catches the ball and launches it. Like a trampoline. If you cut your swing off or stop applying force the ball from a guy throwing 87 and up will literally push your bat backwards. This dude doesn’t understand.
I love how he is always off balance when he swings and face is always looking away... No wonder his boy Judge is always one of the league leaders in strike outs every year...
I watched one of your videos last night and had a dream I hit a home run left handed. I've never played baseball other than with my dad and brothers lol let alone left handed
The whole idea of when your "applying force" as he says is just a mind trick, golf swings and baseballs swings are very similar and there's times in my game where I've imagined I'm trying to hit a ball a foot beyond my ball in order to get a desired effect in my swing and other times where I'm "done" swinging halfway down and jus letting the momentum carry me through, that's why the best coaches will tell different people to have different thoughts in order to get the same effect
Bro your so wrong.. horrible that’s a barrel dump and not what great hitters do.. I was a great hitter and D1 level and semi pro level you say some things that are correct and you get it so wrong on others.
Ty Cobb, Tony Gywnn and Wade Boggs would disagree with you. Now you want you are saying is true about home run hitters this is fine but home run hitters are not the best hitters. I will 100% listen to this man about hitting
I played a little ball in high school and never was much for baseball, but this guy's videos could easily make me a pro hitter in no time. Very knowledgeable and great to see him passing on this knowledge.
I’ve seen the best power hitters in baseball almost fall over their shoes taking big swings like this guy did. I believe him.
All great hitters almost fall over on a practice swing. Perfect form. Perfect balance.
Hahahahaha I thought the same thing
Of the force and momentum stays consistent through the swing then it doesn't matter if you connect way back or in front of the plate the impact on the ball will be the same....
This makes a lot of sense. Every once in a while, you see a MLB hitter check swing and break their bat. Announcers laugh and are shocked, but they have to be applying a ton of force before they even get to contact for that to happen.
I don't even play or watch baseball but I love old guys who knows their stuff coach

He might be the real deal but his forearms are perfectly normal.

@@c0rnp0p80 look at Babe Ruth's waistline lol
@@c0rnp0p80 When it comes to a hitting coach, it makes no difference bud. You ever played baseball?
It's basically saying swing through the ball in a more complex convoluted way
Through it not just to it!!! Most also dont get this happens as ya "turn" while TILTED AT WAIST...if standing tall its "pulling out" or "dipping"...this swing is for somebody that leans over and hits off backleg!
If only i had this in highschool lol. I was a pretty good hitter but these tips could have made me way better.
Tony Gwynn didn’t swing out of his shoes every time. I watched him throw the head of the bat out and send the ball down the 5.5 hole for years. He was the best I’ve ever seen.
If he played today, the 3B would be standing right there
Never thought of it like that, but it make perfect sense.
Ted Williams used to refer to it as "hips ahead of hands" - opening up the hips on your stride will pull the bat through the zone with greater power.
Pitt the Elder!
As with all sports that involve striking, hitting, kicking (baseball, football, boxing etc) the power doesn't come from your limbs, it comes through your body momentum

@@2wheels1love21 hey nick you really play in the big?
He's talking about hip movement vs straight arm power. If done correctly the start of the swing along with hip rotation produces all the power and the rest of your body is just catching up.

my childhood terror will never be healed. thanks coach
If he is correct and the swing force and energy are done at the beginning of the swing, if that is true, then your swing is slowing down through impact. I would argue that your swing should accelerate through the impact of the ball.

You would have struck out more and cemented your dads lack of faith in you.
@@rhino5551212 did commenting this make you feel better?
Best. Explanation. Ever.
They practiced so much that vulnerable feeling that most have would be completely out of them…
Give us a lesson on balance next, please

I can get on board with a lot of what he teaches but this is just insanely not true. I would love to see Aaron judge say that he doesn’t apply force at contact. Anyone that has ever hit a no doubt home run knows that feeling and that feeling is applying force at contact at the exact right time
The comments saying he doesn’t know what he’s talking about are hysterical. Aaron Judge uses him as a hitting coach in the off-season. Richard Schenck is his name.
Look at Aaron's grip and you will always see mid knuckle alignment. Richard has what I call little league alignment, so I don't know?

Learning how to essentially what's called break your wrists is a great technique that unfortunately a lot of young people don't learn anymore. If you can learn how to do that you'll have a very nice swing.
Lol comparing Aaron Judge to Tony, really? The guy either hits a solo home run or strikes out. You have to be high to think he's good hitter. He's just strong and can muscle em out. Important sports advice. You can apply these mechanics to most sports
Except batting. These mechanics are not working for 99.9% of people at any level. In a decent college level or even good HS level with pitchers clocking even mid 80s w any off speed pitch, he strikes out or maybe weak ground out hes late on.
Dropping his hands balls already in the zone and he pulls his shoulders/head off before he even starts bat through zone. This is actually the dumbest way to teach hitting. No idea who this guy is.
@@yearight7956 bro...I agree with you 100%. This guy is a blowhard. He's absolutely horrible at explaining things. So all in...wtf? And he completely disregards the legs. The legs is where nearly all your power comes from. If you disagree, try doing any athletic movement standing stiff legged. Watch a quarterback, tennis player or golfer. They get 90% of their power from the drive from their legs. All athletic movements get power from the large muscles. Legs, back & torso. This guy is a wrist guy. It's bullshit.
Very similar to a golf swing.
The power isn’t from your arms, and big part of a good golf swing comes from the wrist rotation.
Honestly, tell the coaches not to train his swing during BP. A good coach will either respect it, or not coach the kid again.
You have to follow through. The bat literally catches the ball and launches it. Like a trampoline. If you cut your swing off or stop applying force the ball from a guy throwing 87 and up will literally push your bat backwards. This dude doesn’t understand.
