Your hip transfer is nuts. Just perfect. So fluid. No jerking or stutter, just clean. I really enjoy watching good hitters. It's almost art how you execute.

The most important thing I learned when my son was in Little League (and I learned it the easy way) is that the bat doesn’t matter if you aren’t hitting the ball. So he used a $30 bat, we worked on his mechanics and he started making good contact. The following year I bought one of those $300 bats used for about $150 and from my experience it turned his singles into doubles and his doubles into triples and he got his first (and only HR) that year also. My advice to parents of young hitters would be: Mechanics first and foremost and once they start hitting consistently that a more expensive bat DOES help.

      Riiight?
Like, if you don't know to hit with any bat in the few inches of the bat that are optimal (sweet spot) and are able to adjust to the pitch's location enough to give yourself a chance at the barrel?
You'll break a $300 bat as well as a $50 if you don't. And if you know the spot, either bat will give you the same outcome 75% of the time. Sometimes, the real high-end stuff gets a little extra, like you said
but u still need to hit it, first
A little kick in the barrel wont outweigh momentum, you still need a good path and great contact
When my daughter learned that and talked about it to other players is when I bought it. Never really said that that would be line where I went over 100. Her Buying in made

@@johnwydra6573 just looked it up, bombat reminds me of all the old school Nike's, Andies and Eastons we used in HS 05-09 (we weren't corking as HS girls though 🤣). I don't remember anyone using composite when I played, but we still have the aluminums at the field now that I coach and watching the kids today use them is absolute gold. Idk how we used those but I think we were also a lot bigger in height/size on average and didn't really have a choice. Crazy to see the evolution, be interesting to see the short-lived titanium bat tested out today💥

@@marcusaurelius180AD I should explain, this was ASA slo pitch softball in the early seventies when I started. Guys used lead shot, glued into a clump inside the barrel. These guys were 6-5, 275 and launched balls into the far distance. They end loaded to get more leverage. They dwarfed me in size. There was a lot of shenanigans in the day. I also played during the time period of unlimited arc. Glad they got rid of that.

The bat matters, to a point. The flex of the barrel, the way the handle behaves through the swing and allows you to comfortably connect (versus stinging your hands) all matter a lot. But then you have to have all the mechanics of a great swing and timing. That outweighs the bat so a $150 bat for a great hitter is going to be a better output than a $400 bat with a mediocre hitter.
It’s always down to the hitter though when home run derbies aren’t your end game.

We moved her from her aluminum bat about 6 months ago to a two piece composite and it made a big difference. I agree. As an umpire and college recruiter. My oldest was a pitcher taught to pitch by Mike's USA pitching consultant. Now batting, as a college player, if she wasn't hitting, she was DH or 1st. She joined the NCAA pitchers with most HRs for being a pitcher. What ever bat is hot yet legal is what she used. Easton sponsored her college. She's an Easton lover. Yet Louisville had a rough grip on the barrel creating massive backspin, so the college bought her 4 as it was like taking candy from a baby. Just drive through the ball and bam! The spin for 160$ less. I used to love giving lessons but as an umpire, I was scratching my head over this bat at 299$ vs the new Easton ghost at 459$. She went 12 DBLs 6 triples and 7 fingers at a whopping .370 something, never caring about stats. I miss SB 😞. Retired and last of the old umpires who ran our team playing just for scholarships. I had to hit this video! Just can't resist 😜. I used to coach rec teams due to no coaches. My wife was a pitching and throwing coach.
Can't throw " Go see coach Janie"😎. I did the batting and found the best math parents to do stats. Took rec teams to select tourneys with tee-shirts and placed😁😁. Takes a village and high spirits to have fun and build up studs, but never forced to play. It was rec.
Met my wife at 19 on softball fields umpiring, we're in our 50s now. Still teach umpire classes in TX though. Still going to watch tourneys and eat my shaved cherry ice with a Dr pepper 😎. Sadly, sometimes I don't know what these coaches think as it's better to coach than coach your own player/kid. Mine made her own way but I stepped in on the college visits. Never told a coach I was showing up for the week. Had to see the full experience of surroundings. That was funny but never turned down a meal , just the room. This part was for advice for a players parents! Mine had over 10 full ride offers , ended up playing for a coach that met her in southern Louisiana. Outcome, great time in college as well as the sisterhood of the team. Thanks for the video, no reason to spend a lot on a composite and see it collect dust. The ones who do tee work 3-4 times a week, then it's a feel thing. Most shops I dealt with that are in business all have a 30 day plus return. They know your players return.
I still have a made in the USA stealth 32" in the corner. Thanks again for a trip down memory lane 😎

It really comes down to the hitter and their mechanics. If they don't have good fundamentals then the bat is almost irrelevant. Yeah sure hitting a composite bat will help with some power gains but it will be inconsistent. I see it all the time in my nieces games as well as in my adult slowpitch games. Fundamentals are the most important part of hitting. One of the guys on my men's team is all upper body and he hits dingers a few times a season. When he finally gets his fundamentals down and incorporates his lower body those few times a season are going to become a more regular thing. One of our local HS ballplayers is a defensive baller. At the plate though she lacks solid fundamentals. She should be a much better fundamental hitter because of all the years she's played but all her coaches figured it would work itself out. Now comparing aluminum to composite is really comparing apples to oranges. I'd say compare 3 different aluminum bats from different price points and 3 different composite bats from different price points and that's where you'll see the difference. You are doing great things here with your channel. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more content.

The sad thing to me is cheap bats today vs cheap bats of yesterday, I guarantee you would do better with a cheap 80's era aluminum bat, then a cheap aluminum bat now. The premium bats now may be better then the premium bats then, but the cheap bats then were nicer then the cheap bats now. My older aluminum bats that are rounded on the end also don't make this annoying after the hit ringing sound. They definitely ring, but it has a solid stop and not that horrible lingering sound at the end these newer bats make. hard to explain. I'll still take a wooden bat over aluminum any day for a game. They also still have the most satisfying sound. Light aluminum for practice, heavier wood for play. Obviously there's some composite bats that will hit it further but also not legal in most leagues. But that is just my pure amateur for fun batting opinion.....

How many times did you say, "I'm not gonna lie" in this video.... Lol 😂
Hey,have you done a video on all the songs/chants that the softball
players sing in the dugout to psyche out the other team ? That'd be a cool video

I have a 350 dollar bat, the Rawling Mantra, drop 10 31 inch, and it's works amazingly, I did have a 400 dollar Easton Ghost Advanced, but my Mantra works way better, I feel like it's more quality than how much money you spend

My 14yo uses the Easton Amethyst. She's been told that I wasn't going to drop $$ for Jr high club ball, but hs ball will get her a "better" bat. She was using an Easton Sapphire (-10) last year and our hitting coach told her she needed a -11 instead. Next year is freshman year, so a new bat will be in her future.

The only variable acknowledged in the title is the $...
But your experiment in action contained many more, due to your personal variables...
You use the last bat more often, if not all the time, therefore your comfort level and muscle memory would be much more in tune for better results...
You stated at the end of bat #2 that you were trying not to swing "all out," but then said that you are going to start swinging with entire shoulder and body...
And since nobody is perfect, your swings also resulted in different contact points on each ball hit, which as you know, makes a big difference...
The #2 bat, which was a -13, was also a different size bat, according to your reaction when you noticed that it was a -13...
I think the best point you made was when you recognized that at younger ages, players grow out of their gear yearly, meaning that a good balance between proper fit, weight, and $ would be best...
I enjoy experimenting quite a bit too...
Recognizing and Isolating Variables Is Paramount For An Accurate Experiment...js

Also not acknowledged is that you’re comparing aluminum bats to a broken-in composite bat. Of course the more expensive composite is going to be better.

I grew up playing baseball. One of the teams I played for was a summer league high school team. No one cared. It was just something to do in the evenings. We didn't have real coaches and everyone played out of position just for fun. I experimented with a different bat every time I got to the plate. I found that the bat didn't matter. Some of the best hits I got were from the cheaper bats. They felt more natural to me.

You proved you have a great swing when you hit balls blindfolded. Being able to repeat that swing is an advantage. Your skills are unquestioned. Got my granddaughter an Easton Ghost, the $400 version. She’s a big strong U-12 and the pop off the bat, compared to her old Easton Topaz Aluminum has convinced me it was worth the money for the upgrade. She still has a lot to learn. She has the strength but needs to get the swing mechanics down, like you have to take full advantage of the composite Ghost.
