For me, it is sad that this is the first time I'm hearing of these other men who were murdered. I thought that Versace's death was a stand-alone until this video. I doubt I'm the only one. How did the families and friends of these men, who were not "icons", feel about having Versace's death completely eclipse the loss and pain that THEY felt? Their lives meant just as much as a fashion designer's. 😞

After reading about Cunanan's life, the victim who stuck with me and who I think about the most is David Madson followed by Jeffrey Trail. Versace knew nothing and died instantly but the terror experienced by David who (after having seen Jeffrey's body) was kidnapped for a couple of days while he tried to talk himself out of it was far worse. It makes me so sad whenever I think about him and how warmly his friends and colleagues spoke of him. Same for Jeffrey who was trying to escape from Cunanan and seemed like a very decent man. Until I saw this video I had almost forgotten that it ended with Versace.

He shot Versace because he was an important person whose death would always be associated with him. This way he would get the attention of the whole world forever. The killer of John Lennon may have had the same motif.
Maybe AC admired Versace, and wasn't noticed by him or he was or felt rejected by him. And at that point AC knew there was no way out and so he wanted to have a grand exit. Narcissists need the feeling of importance and he would confirm his grandiosity to himself before killing himself and escaping the grasp and control of others/the state.

What a scary time that was. I was living in southern Florida at the time of Gianni Versace’s death.
The manhunt was scary. Our yard was on the intercostal waterway on a culdusac with only two homes on the culdusac. Our yard & our neighbors yard had mature foliage in and each yard was almost an acre big. I had to run across our courtyard to our guest cottage where my ex’s elderly dad lived. I had to check in on him 2 to 3 times a night. I remember feeling very scared doing these night checks; wondering if Andrew might have been hiding on our, or our neighbors property. It was such a relief when they found Andrew . What a horrible time that was for all of Southern Florida.

There were international travel warnings about traveling to Miami so if that's what you mean by spotlight then yeah. However Versace began to change that image.

That is such a sad story - those poor 5 men (and the only one I had remembered was Versace). I don't know how we stop this as mothers - it sounds like the killer because he was at a very exclusive school and was very very bright and then the father was fraudulent and ran off the boy lost a father, lost his better off life because of his father's criminality, lost his stability (even then that does not make most people killers). He was bright enough to have a good career and not live off an older man.

According to the documentary I watched before, Andrew Cunanan's parents did everything to make his life better and make sure he could study in a good school. I think that instead of valuing it, Cunanan felt envy every time he saw something he didn't have. Cunanan grew up with envy & evil heart.
It sad that someone with Filipino blood can do this crime.
I just hope that Cunanan was captured alive and suffer a lifetime punishment in jail.

My family and I were on a trip to Washington D.C. when Cunanan killed himself. While we were touring a federal building (forget which), our guide pointed out someone changing an "FBI'S Most Wanted" poster. He said something like, "In light of recent events, a new spot on the list has just opened up..."
Watching the coverage of Cunanan drove my mom crazy, because no one reporting the news seemed to agree on how to pronounce his last name. Coo-NAN-an, Coo-NAHN-an, COO-na-nan...
I was eleven. I know this will sound really dumb, but the Andrew Cunanan coverage was the first time I realized that Asian people could be gay. I guess in my mind, people could belong to only one minority category at a time
