Saudia B777/B787 AirShow Formation Flight - How 4 Airliners Flew Within 200 Feet?

- This is the most exciting flight I've been on this year! I was flying inside two of the four Saudi commercial airliners that participated in the Saudi 91st National Day Airshow 2021.
The four Saudi Airliners involved in the formation are:
Saudia B787-9 (Call sign: Falcon 1),
Saudia B777-300/ER in Retro Livery (Call sign: Falcon 2),
Flyadeal A320neo (Call sign: Falcon 3),
Flynas A320 (Call sign: Falcon 4).
On day 1 of the rehearsal, I flew inside a Saudia B777-300/ER Retro 75th anniversary special livery (registration HZ-AK28). The pilots explained the special flying procedure of the formation. The 4 airliners were flying with just 200 feet separation, which requires precision planning and discipline.
On day 2 I flew inside a Flyadeal new A320neo, to film the other formation aircraft. I was treated to some amazing and incredible air-to-air flying footage of Saudia B777 and B787.
The 91st Saudi National Day AirShow was held in Jeddah on 20th Sept, Riyadh on 23rd Sept and Damman on 25th Sept.

I was in Saudi Arabia during 1981 to 1986, I flew all over KSA. Saudia is an Good Airlines indeed. From Dahran to Jeddah and to Khamis Mushait and Riyadh to Al Hofuf. And back again to Tabuk and to Mecca and Medina.
We welcome everyone in Saudi Arabia. Visit us again and you will see Saudi Arabia as you have never seen it before

OMG! it just shows that it doesn't matter if you are military or commercial pilot. the skills that they both share in flying formation is beyond words. I salute all of the pilots out there. Doesn't matter what country you are from and what airline you fly for. Thank you for keeping the skies safe.

That retro Saudia livery is fantastic! I love it! Reminds me a bit of the original Eastern Airlines livery which I love, but with unexpected bright green.
I worked for Eastern Airlines for 10 years! Nice to know that someone thinks of it to this day.

The old Saudia livery brings me back childhood memories when we pick up my late uncle in Manila came from either Dammam or Dhahran or Jeddah.
I came home for good in the Philippines from Saudi Arabia 2 years ago through Saudia also

There was no ATC with us .. we were communicating to each other .. the lead aircraft was our controller during the show between us .

There was a Royal Saudi Air Force A330 rego 240, call sign Moon 12 that followed them from 13:10 UTC till about13:44 UTC , so I imagine that would have got some great air to air shots!

How much fun the captains have, getting to play with other captains with their big toys.
What a wonderful moment for all pilots ATC people in the ground and here in UA-cam and for Sam of course.
There were also civilians aircrafts, different types of F15 fighters, typhoon, hawk and helicopters all in one formation or show.
Just search about Saudi airshow 2021 or national day show and let your eyes enjoy the beauty.
When take off roll and take off and approach and touch down show the front view along with the pilots and not the pilots only from the wind shield.

Thanks Sam for sharing, I was the approach ATC at Jeddah while the actual show was going, controlled them from the departure to the holding point and then transferring them to airshow frequency, I wasn’t holding my breath as I did while watching your video 😆😆 that looks so scary and yet so professionally done 😍

Having some experience in the warbirds community, as a non-pilot, I know the challenges of complex formation flying. In smaller more maneuverable warbirds, station keeping is manageable in a most formations, but damn with aircraft of these sizes and "relative" maneuverability that is an added challenge.

Congratulations Sam you are the only civilian passenger to ever experience this amazing formation flying on passenger jet, and all the pilots looked so happy to be able to have the chance to be the ones chosen for such an important task
