Joe Sutter was the chief engineer put in charge of the 747 development. At the time, Boeing executives thought their main project was going to be a supersonic transport and the 747 was an 'also ran'. Turned out to be the other way round. Sutter's book, in plain easy-to-understand language, lays out the overall events and considerations that led to the 747, and also mentions the frustrations that can hamper any significant project. Great read.

I think this is such a wonderful video. Very educational and inspiring. Some of the greatest minds in the world doing so much to keeping the world safe while traveling. I believe that the entire world should be free so that we can concentrate in producing more great minds so we can do great things as shown in this video. Pride in creating and producing is key to the most evolutionary ingenius ideas will make our world so much more enlightening and with the end results we all enjoy the fruits of our minds that God gave us all as the greatest gift a human can ever receive. And that's our minds. Such intelligent people in this video. Love it. Very inspiring. The idea 💡 of flying was the start of all this. The 747 Jumbo Jet is truly the most beautiful man made bird in the sky.
Since this procedure takes five weeks, have we ever heard about either of the Air Force One 747's being taken out of service? Considering that they fly both planes simultaneously for redundancy, when would they have the time?
Ep 1... My father was with Boeing 25 years, (Seattle, Renton) and was a manager on the 747 flight line from day one, in Everett WA. until he retired in 1976. This was a wonderful introduction to so many things I knew nothing about. so interesting ..... Ep 2. Unreal..... would sinking it cause a real problem? Great coverage ... so interesting. Ep 3 ..... This is one of my favorite documentaries ever..... I have never had a connection to this industry,... presented so a total layperson could learn so much..... all the way thru I just kept saying "wow" ..... I'll never look at a ship the same way again.....
Yes, brilliant men, women and engineers and jet pilots. Not only are 747's from the Seventies still flying revenue, but I wonder how many people realize that Boeing 52's are still patrolling the Earth and protecting the USA and the Western Free world with an awesome weapon we pray will never be used, indeed that the terrible knowledge that the Earth's assured destruction will prevent the use of nuclear weapons. And that current B52's in use flew over seventy years ago. No new B 52 will ever built again, and this delivery system the Western World must rely upon another half-century of defense against maniacs.
@@AudioFileZ the L10-11 was a very good aircraft indeed, cant even compare to the mess that was the DC-10. It's unfortunate they had that issue with the RB 211 deliveries. The whisperliner its one of my favourites to this day. But that doesn't take from the fact that before Boeing merging with MD they had the safest planes on earth. You need to remember that only about 200 L10-11 were built, whilst boeing built thousands of aircrafts.

as i have understood bernuli's theory regarding lift on an airfoil be it wing or sail is that the abject is sucked not pushed ..so is my understanding incorrect are wings pushed into the air or sucked are boats pulled forward or are they pushed?
I'm surprised so few people are mentioning this in the comments. My jaw dropped when he said it was the increase of pressure below the wing pushing the aircraft up. I've always been told this produces no lift whatsoever, that all lift is created from the decrease in pressure above the wing. I've personally assumed both worked in tandem to some degree, but as I'm just a layman and no engineer I've kept my opinion to myself. Now, after hearing this, I am even more skeptical of engineers and scientists. Not of science, mind you, but of the ists who claim to speak for science (the idiot Tony Fauci above all others).
@@RoySATX it is not well explained anywhere i have come across it , as i see it without the partial vacuum caused by increased velocity there is no"lift" ....and to my logic vacuums do not push they suck
It’s partly both. That’s why fully symmetrical airfoils still work. As does flying inverted as well as models that fly with a flat, completely flat airfoils.
@@JaredKlatt flying inverted you still generate lift...but its down and you apply dive to climb so that answers nothing for me . can you elaborate on flat airfoils i am unfamiliar with examples except possibly a box kite and i dont understand the mechanics of an un cambered foil it sorta defeats the definition. i understand it is a strange but precise question which will be difficult to explain simply

I'm sure the drilling company didn't like what Greenpeace was protesting about. Because the powers that were incharge of the disposal of the rig wanted to do it for the least amount of money. Without any thought to what the impact to sea life would be. I'm sure they didn't want to damage or harm anything living in the north sea. And figured since it was already in the north sea it could be left there. However Greenpeace was right in forcing them to remove as much as they possibly could. And I'm sure that in the end the owners agreed that it all needs to removed from the sea. Leaving the least amount as possible.
I am sure that it is just because they are Greenpeace and they don't have a brain. I will never forget when I and a bunch of the guys I was with were heading to a meeting we had just got back from deployment and we had our uniforms on. They had us go to Chicago. We had to walk down the block a little bit since our transportation had dropped us at the wrong building. It was January 27 2008. I will never forget because of course a bunch of these brainless idiots were having a demonstration with their clothes and signs saying Greenpeace. Also, I had never had a group of people claiming to be for peace spit on me and my friends. I remember seeing the spit come out of their mouth and saying to the guys let's beat the shit out of them but all the other guys told me to remember we were in uniform so I just walked off with them into our meeting with the dirtiest most worthless humans DNA on me. It is OK our platoon had 600 plus confirmed kills next deployment and we said we did it for them. It felt nice getting rid of the scum of the earth. We could not get rid of the terrorist outside that building in Chicago but we got all their brothers and sisters overseas lol. Same type and class of people in both places.

While they were conducting lightning tests it brought back to my mind one evening flying into Rota, Spain aboard a US Navy P-3. Fairly clear weather and I was just behind the cockpit. I saw a HUGE FLASH of light and jumped into my seat ready to send an emergency message. When everyone’s eyes cleared all looked good except all my radios and radar wouldn’t work. We had taken a lightning strike. The discharge blew all the communications and radar systems. Outside the aircraft it looked like a handful of BB’s had been tack welded to the skin. On the opposite side of the aircraft at the tail on the horizontal stabilizer there was a hole big enough to put your fist thru. The skin metal had been vaporized where the discharge left the aircraft. Just another day in the Navy.

The guy looks shocked at how much it will cost Shell to remove the oil rig. What's he a stakeholder? Shell put it there, they should have to remove it... Also, the fact that they wanted to just dump it in the ocean is bonkers. Then the guy was like "I don't think we explained it very well". No, you explained it perfectly. Unbelievable. The fact that 70% of the oxygen we need to survive comes from the oceans and you just want to dump an oil rig in the middle of one is insane. How many oil rigs could you dump before it becomes a problem in Shell's eyes? 10?, 100?, 1,000??? Just insane.

I have a concern about a triple feed point of water into a thin sandwiched envelope. I hope that you make room for modifications to the unbelly of your new water plate to increase flow evenly across a plate that will now be expected to hold the heat and pressure of 20 million pounds of thrust instead of 17. I'm rooting for it not to fail even though I'm having doubts about how thin that water jacket has been engineered and manufactured.

Hello @Spark I just found your channel and have liked everything so far. Great coverage.
The captain letting the first officer choose the meal first isn't "a lovely English tradition" it's a lovely aviation courtesy.
Great and very informative video thanks…..👍👍
Amazing and very impressive to see those workers dismantle and rebuild such a huge modern airplane. British engineering at its best.
Very nice documentary and tons of interesting stuff, good job gentlemen 👍🙂
Fantastic video! Remarkable what can be accomplished in 3 weeks.

Now we have 757 767 777 787 and theyre getting ready to eliminate 777 from american fleet.
Since this procedure takes five weeks, have we ever heard about either of the Air Force One 747's being taken out of service? Considering that they fly both planes simultaneously for redundancy, when would they have the time?
Great documentary on an airplane. Keep it up!
Anyone remember who did the door bolts up?
Nobody. I used zip ties.
Doesn't matter now.
It's been chopped up and scrapped scrapped in 2023.
It's nice to remember what Boeing and skilled maintenance technicians are capable of.
It's a shame they merged with MD, they used to build the safest planes before that.
@@pissarozzz7498 Lockheed's L10-11 was superior to the similar MD DC-10. Delta used them into the nineties.

These guys can’t enough appreciation for the hard labor and long hours to ensure plane safety. This is some pretty important stuff that most of the population can’t or most likely wouldn’t wanna do. I’m so thankful there’s hard working people like this. Great video to show all the processes of plane engineering and safety.
I wish i could go on the adventures you guys do
Fantastic job on the Rover. Mike you should give Haden a channel for his steam engines.
And when they finish it will STILL be an old plane !!!

as i have understood bernuli's theory regarding lift on an airfoil be it wing or sail is that the abject is sucked not pushed ..so is my understanding incorrect are wings pushed into the air or sucked are boats pulled forward or are they pushed?
Incredible show! loved it.
Given the Boeing stories in the news today (3/2024) the Boeing story didn’t hold up well, did it.

Ttytyttttttttttyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy😊😅😮
I'm sure that no company has ever liked what Greenpeace was protesting.

Wow amazing great aircraft

I have a concern about a triple feed point of water into a thin sandwiched envelope. I hope that you make room for modifications to the unbelly of your new water plate to increase flow evenly across a plate that will now be expected to hold the heat and pressure of 20 million pounds of thrust instead of 17. I'm rooting for it not to fail even though I'm having doubts about how thin that water jacket has been engineered and manufactured.
Very, very interesting!
