this is so old but i have so many questions, did you go to uni or jc or trade school for pre reqs orcourses, is the dh field large, is the work difficult, how is it going, do you like it
@@keithgray3352 hiii! i went to a local community college for my pre req classes. personally, i do think its pretty difficult only because its online and i dont feel like im learning as much as i would in person. it just moves really fast and you dont get as much hands on learning. most difficult right now is anatomy but im doing pretty good, haha. also im assuming youre asking about the field of dental hygiene which is supposed to increase by 6% in the next 9 years bc the population is growing... but yes i do like it so far:) are you thinking of going into the dh program as well?

I hate that colleges force you to take prereqs. I can't concentrate too well in school and I get super anxious thinking about how long it'll take. Like why can't we just go straight into the mayor we choose. Ugh.
The reasoning behind that is to prepare you by getting you in classes to "practice". The prereqs are supposed to be the "easy" part, so if you cant complete the prereqs, its a good show for if you would or would not be successful in the actual program/major.
@@emmachennofficial I feel like they're mostly there for colleges to make money. There's lots of technical schools that offer the same careers as regular colleges and they go straight into it and people are successful.
If you cant even handle prereques in Jr college you sure shouldn’t be a dental hygienist.. Theres more to it than you may think ..

If I can drop all work, then pick up a lil job on wkends, have all cars die, have one baby and then be pregnant and have my 2nd child in my 2nd yr of school...you can do this. Hang in there. I was back to school after giving birth within a week.

Tbh i was too but id suggest getting a part time job if youre still in school, make it something in retail or customer service that way youre forced to work on it. I never spoke really in school so i knew i had to work on it, i forced myself out of social fear lol
I have bad social anxiety too and I’m enrolling this fall semester for dental hygiene. I’m super nervous and I don’t know how I’ll do. But you just gotta push yourself if you’re interested!
Love your videos! I'm working on my prerequisites right now for DH. I've been reading a lot of negative reviews online, and it has kind of scared me. It's nice knowing that there are people out there that actually love DH, and have good advice!

@@lexiegoingham I think you may have a scewed idea of hygiene school. You have to go to college to become a hygienist, you can just hop into hygiene school. For example even if youre getting your associates, you have to do all your prereqs first and then apply for the hygiene program at your college. Sane thing for a bachelors degree but it takes longer

So true about the challenges in DH school! There were days first semester I'd come home and cry myself to sleep. Second semester & beyond, I would wonder why I was paying for the torture. But after going thru that and practicing to the point where my body is practically falling apart, I know that I can get thru medical school.

I like your channel but have a little input from one hygienist to another. I have been a hygienist for 20 yrs and find it to be malpractice to give a patient only 30 min of attention. I have found that things have changed drastically over the years. It has gone from being patient oriented to patient pushing. Corporations have taken over and those days of getting to know and love your patients have changed to trying to just push them through. Something gets lost and the patient and hygienist pay the price. If you find a good doctor to work for who is truly ethical, you stay loyal to them. I still love what I do but am looking forward to retirement. God bless you and much success to your channel.
Im in high school and Im tryna become a dental hygienist ASAP🤩, but the thing is that later in life I wanna become a dentist so that I can support a family and myself😩. Id rather be this crazy and plan my whole life out rn than wait til last min and not have any idea of what to do😌.
I’m currently studying to become a certified dental assistant and then right after high school hopefully I get accepted into a DH program for the college I want !
I am also in the dental field since 2012, honestly truth! It’s repetitive, your field is a business “ Drs require you to sell treatment to make them their paychecks”... Working for cooperative can actually either break you. It has become more of a business than medical. Example: Are you happy with your smile? Instead of asking are you hurting? Long term neck and back pains. To me the worst thing is an elderly patient with a lot of medical complications being talked into cosmetic work, bridges, implants, crowns, ect.... When in reality a lot of medications are the cause to oral complications. Hygiene is not about just cleanings. Your required to demonstrate treatment, give oral advice, sell treatment, and troubleshoot a lot of patient charts. We always fall at fault for most it. Good luck ladies hope this helps you. They pay is great just a lot of headaches

I dont think it matters. A lot of the prereqs are science based and that is the point of school, to teach you. They will teach you chemistry and i personally dont even have any math prereqs

I have an MSDH and get paid same in a clinical setting as a proprietorship rdh. And now Im thousands in student debt, however, the Masters opens more doors than just clinical work, like teaching or research, when your body starts shutting down with back,neck pain, vision problems and carpal tunnel but its a good backup for teaching. Kami H. Yes it’s a program, I go to a technical school that offers the career path where I can get my associates degree and then take the classes needed to get into the program which is also taught by my college !!!
We have the same study in the netherlands but you can do more as a dental hygienist and the program is 4 years

I'm in DH school right now, and I just had a really bad semester that is discouraging me a little. Any advice with board review books and other resources you use besides your textbooks for classes?
Also how did you stay organized for clinic rotations? Do you have a binder or resources you used for OHI and your requirements that you keep together for clinic?

Katie Gisonni dental hygienists clean and prescribe med for you dental assistant do xrays and other office work and yes assistant get paid way less
And dental assistant it’s only a two month classes dental hygienists it’s a two year degree plus prereq before acceptance into the program
