I had an interview to get into my program!!! I start in the fall! The interview was intense! My suggestion would be to... SUIT UP!!!! Dress prefessionally!!!... Show up early!!!! They gave us a few questions to read through which we would discuss in the interview. Getting there eary allows you time to really prepare a good response for those questions! ... Stay calm!!! Do some deep breathing! Yes, it is stressful but you need to be able to show the interviewers that you can handle things hen the pressure gets high!!! ... PRAY!!!!!!! He is where our tength comes from!!!
I’ve recently been accepted in the Dental Hygiene Program at my technical college ! I have been an assistant for 9 years and decided to take up prerequisites 2 years ago . So happy for my decision to further my dental career . Thanks for the inspiration!

Had to graduate highschool early to move out of a bad home situation, and because of that I didn’t take any of the highschool courses I needed. I never thought I would be able to accomplish my dream of becoming a dental hygienist. I have now been doing my pre reqs since 2016 while working 2 jobs and 4 jobs in the summer!! It’s crazy to look back on how hard I have worked. I start my final year of pre reqs this September!! I am so excited to start the rest of my life. There is often a year waitlist for the school I am going to apply to, so during that waiting period there are two microbiology courses that are a part of the program that I’m able to take beforehand which I will do to take advantage of the time and make the course load easier on myself
This is the ONLY video I have been able to find that really really tells us all what we were wanting to know. Other videos completely skip telling us that college will require a placement test. None of the other videos even tell us that we can choose between an AS or BA. So so informative. Thank you!!!

I finished my prereqs math chem and a&p all with As, I passed the HESI with an 89 and found out I got accepted on Monday I’m starting this fall! 😭 Update- one month into the program and it’s really taking a toll on my mental health. It is NOT EASY. I knew it was going to be rough but i didn’t expect this so if you’re thinking of applying, put yourself in the mindset that you basically won’t have a social life 🥴
Lisbeth Urgiles sorry I didn’t realize you responded! Honestly it was easier than it seems it’s just a lot of stuff at once but take your time you have a lot of it and don’t skip questions you can’t go back to them 😫
Mikerial Pickett girl chem isn’t my strongest subject so I had a ton of tutoring sessions and an amazing, understanding, patient professor! I took a lot of notes and studied them whenever I could 😫

Wow your so encouraging my main goal is to be a dental hygienist but for now I want to become a dental assistant to make money and get an employer to pay my tuition to go back to college for dental hygeine. You just made me realize every step is a progress!

Omg you made me cry! Im in such a hard spot in my life... I always wanted to be a dental hygienist but never went for it, now at 31 years old with two young kids i felt like it was too late for me. With this pandemic my bartender job is done and at this point I don’t want to keep doing it. I’ve been praying and praying to have something else open up in my life. God been so clear on my going back to school. I just happen to look up dental hygienist on UA-cam and saw this video! Thank you for inspiring me girl.

hey girl congrats!! Can you give me some tips on how its going with pre reqs, and when you go to community college for pre reqs is that called a dent hygiene program or is that similar to a hygiene school ?
@@dooddood2978 Hi! So where I live, the only schools that offer a dental hygiene program are two year schools and community colleges. There is no need to go to a 4 year private school and/or a university. For me, my only option was a community college. Not sure how it is in your state, but dental hygiene programs are really only offered at community colleges since it is only a two year program! I do not think it is necessary to do the program through anything other than a community college. Save your money. You only get an associates degree from a dental hygiene program so I see no point in going to a 4 year school for that (if you can even find one that offers it). But I’m pretty sure for the most part, dental hygiene programs are mainly offered at community colleges since they are just a 2 year degree.

I love your videos! I got accepted into a hygiene program in Atlanta that starts in August. With everything going on, I'm very stressed right now working as an essential employee and doing my last prereq (public speaking). I got my acceptance letter one week before the corona situation got real intense, so since then I've been focused on other things. Your videos help refocus me and remind me to think about the good, new and exciting things to come in hygiene school and after. I've also seen some people discouraging the career of a hygienist and telling me to do nursing instead. But I can't see myself as a nurse, and I liked hygiene when I did my shadowing. Your videos are so helpful because they are insightful and encouraging. You make me feel like I made the right choice. So with that I say a big thank you!!

I actually was hesitant to apply for college, but our high school made us and so I applied for general education, and I’m still stuck on that. However, I’m kind of glad because I was going to a part of my college experience where I was switching up my major a few times, and now I’m considering dental hygienist :)

You make me so excited for the day I get to apply to my program! The program I am applying to is very competitive and it is based off of the point system. My grades are great but I noticed most people who get accepted were previously dental assistants so I hope I will still get accepted without that experience🥺 I would go shadow but they don’t count that and I wouldn’t receive any points but I might go do it anyways just for experience! my anxiety is through the roof!🤯
The program I want is so competitive! My advisor told me don't even bother applying without a 4.0 in the 5 prereqs AND work experience. Out of ~200 applicants, 40 make it to the proctored essay, then 20 make it in. 100% pass rate for all licensing exams, though. Already have some shadowing hours lined up and a BA in psych which gets me only one point. I'm taking back-to-back winter/spring/fall/summer one class a semester so I can make sure I get my As and apply in 2024 but i'm already 31 and if I get in i'll be 37 by the time I get out! Better late than never I guess 😅

Thank you so much for this video, I am currently a junior in high school and I was nominated for a scholarship and I was asked my major and favourite subject and I couldn't decide what I wanted and I almost rejected the scholarship because I was confused and I told myself I wont sleep until I found a career that suit me and then I started searching and found this video and I fell inlove with it. Getting into dental hygiene school is incredibly competitive. Trust me I know. I had all the pre reqs with an A B average a 3.6 gpa and a decent teas score and had been a dental assistant for 5 years with letters of recommendation from high ranking officers (I worked for the army) and didn’t get in to three of my local comm colleges. It’s literally that difficult. My best advice have a back up plan because they only take the literal best of the best. And good luck if you are a transfer student because schools tend to favor their own alumni versus an outsider. Two years later and I’m still working as a dental assistant with a shred of hope i can one day advance my career.
@@sofiag4377 it took me a year to do all my pre reqs but I crammed it all in and rushed it so all in all I took 10 classes in one year. And I make 16$ and hour as a dental assistant.

I just got accepted into dental hygiene school this week! I’m going to be so busy come September hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with my channel (I started last August since I had a whole year off of school and I’m currently working on becoming a personal trainer as well before I start bc I definitely won’t have time to study for that) Also, did you work in a dentist office prior to becoming a hygienist or prior to starting hygiene school??
@@SaraSofia you're not alone! I'll be 25 in June and just got accepted into a hygiene program that starts in August. I've worked as a server and restaurant manager since I was 19 so I have no prior dental experience. It is intimidating, but we'll get through this!

The dental program at my college is a limited one....they only take 24 persons every year and i am scoring straight A in my prereqs. but this semester might be my first B and I am stressiingg!!
@@sofiag4377 prerequisites on average take 2 years before I start my prerequisites in the fall I signed up for my dental assistant program 10 months ago and I’m almost finished I just decided to do da school first so I can have steady income
Was on my local technical/community college website looking at all the programs and I saw Dental Assistant and Dental Hygienist. I know what the assistant is but never heard of the hygienist so I Googled what it was and I’m somewhat amazed. I never realized that most of the time when you go to the dentist office to get your teeth cleaned and stuff 90% of the time you’re seeing the dental hygienist who cleans your teeth and not the actual dentist. And then dental hygienist make very good decent money and all you need is an associates degree. Don’t see why more people don’t do it.

I originally graduated with my degree in business, but now I’m going back to school for dental hygiene :) in pre-reqs right now & I’ll hear back in March if I get in! I’m only applying to one program snd they take 21 people 🤞🏻
I’m just now finishing up spring semester of my junior year (finals start tomorrow!). Things are really different in our program because of covid, but I’m hopeful. DH school is no joke but it’s important to remember what your goal is and that this is a hurtle to achieving that goal!
I have been watching your videos for a few years since I started community college and I finally got accepted into the dental hygiene program! I’m so excited to start this journey, your videos really kept me motivated and I’m so excited to start!!! Out of curiosity, how old were you when you started? I’m 21, is that considered “younger”?
I am currently in a bachelors program in Oregon. We didn’t have to take the TEAS test, but we did have a interview. For the interview we had a group activity and then an individual interview. Ours was a lot of ethics types questions for the interview. I got my acceptance email one week after the interview. This is my third trimester and it is online right now, but hopefully we will be back in the summer to start seeing patients! Ready for the next 2 years be tough but so worth it!
What’s next for someone who doesn’t get in ? I’m a junior in high school and I’m interested in becoming a dental hygienist but I don’t know nothing about college ... all I know is there is a community college with a dental hygienist program that I want to go to

Hey, I need some help! I’m a high school senior and I want to go into dental hygiene. I love dental hygiene and watching these types of videos has made me want to do it more. Where I live there isn’t a community college that provides dental hygiene but there’s a university that offers the dental hygiene program.(which I got into!) I’m not rich lol and my mom thinks going to a community college would be best so I can get my prerequisites and make sure that this is something I want to do, and then I’m really young so she worries. If you were my big sister what would you recommend me doing ? I really need help !❤️ much love
find a community college that has the program, figure out what their prereqs are. If there is a closer community college go to that to take ur prereqs then apply to to other community college that has the program.

So technically you had two C's? 🤔 I may have a chance. I retook some prerequisites to get a higher grade and higher GPA. Definitely helped! Anything there's just reading based and not as tough, I took online. Over the top classes, I took in lecture, and classes I was confident in and had some knowledge before entering, I took hybrid ( one day lecture, the rest online) I even have an F that I replaced with a C and a D replaced with a B. It's just a matter of putting in the time and work
@@Marigo1ds biggest advice is try not to have Cs for your sciences, based on the program here. Cs hurt you. And try to be finished with your prerequisites when applying. Because I was in the process of two classes and had a few Cs which pushed me back. However, I met with the coordinator and she said my application would have been near perfect if it wasn't for those.
I graduated with my AA and completed pre reqs for hygiene. I just graduated from dental assisting which was also a req for hygiene school here FL . I’m in the process of applying now and some colleges require that u take the CDA(certified dental assistant) exam too!

@@dooddood2978 Hi! So where I live, the only schools that offer a dental hygiene program are two year schools and community colleges. There is no need to go to a 4 year private school and/or a university. For me, my only option was a community college. Not sure how it is in your state, but dental hygiene programs are really only offered at community colleges since it is only a two year program! I do not think it is necessary to do the program through anything other than a community college. Save your money. You only get an associates degree from a dental hygiene program so I see no point in going to a 4 year school for that (if you can even find one that offers it). But I’m pretty sure for the most part, dental hygiene programs are mainly offered at community colleges since they are just a 2 year degree.

I love your videos! I got accepted into a hygiene program in Atlanta that starts in August. With everything going on, I'm very stressed right now working as an essential employee and doing my last prereq (public speaking). I got my acceptance letter one week before the corona situation got real intense, so since then I've been focused on other things. Your videos help refocus me and remind me to think about the good, new and exciting things to come in hygiene school and after. I've also seen some people discouraging the career of a hygienist and telling me to do nursing instead. But I can't see myself as a nurse, and I liked hygiene when I did my shadowing. Your videos are so helpful because they are insightful and encouraging. You make me feel like I made the right choice. So with that I say a big thank you!!

I was placed on the alternative list too. I still have the alternative letter. I got in the start of the second week when someone dropped out.
I actually was hesitant to apply for college, but our high school made us and so I applied for general education, and I’m still stuck on that. However, I’m kind of glad because I was going to a part of my college experience where I was switching up my major a few times, and now I’m considering dental hygienist :)

You make me so excited for the day I get to apply to my program! The program I am applying to is very competitive and it is based off of the point system. My grades are great but I noticed most people who get accepted were previously dental assistants so I hope I will still get accepted without that experience🥺 I would go shadow but they don’t count that and I wouldn’t receive any points but I might go do it anyways just for experience! my anxiety is through the roof!🤯
They only accept 14 people a year 😅
I recommend going to a university with a dental school if you want more exposure to different areas/fields of dentistry
The program I want is so competitive! My advisor told me don't even bother applying without a 4.0 in the 5 prereqs AND work experience. Out of ~200 applicants, 40 make it to the proctored essay, then 20 make it in. 100% pass rate for all licensing exams, though. Already have some shadowing hours lined up and a BA in psych which gets me only one point. I'm taking back-to-back winter/spring/fall/summer one class a semester so I can make sure I get my As and apply in 2024 but i'm already 31 and if I get in i'll be 37 by the time I get out! Better late than never I guess 😅

Getting into dental hygiene school is incredibly competitive. Trust me I know. I had all the pre reqs with an A B average a 3.6 gpa and a decent teas score and had been a dental assistant for 5 years with letters of recommendation from high ranking officers (I worked for the army) and didn’t get in to three of my local comm colleges. It’s literally that difficult. My best advice have a back up plan because they only take the literal best of the best. And good luck if you are a transfer student because schools tend to favor their own alumni versus an outsider. Two years later and I’m still working as a dental assistant with a shred of hope i can one day advance my career.

@@sofiag4377 it took me a year to do all my pre reqs but I crammed it all in and rushed it so all in all I took 10 classes in one year. And I make 16$ and hour as a dental assistant.

Was on my local technical/community college website looking at all the programs and I saw Dental Assistant and Dental Hygienist. I know what the assistant is but never heard of the hygienist so I Googled what it was and I’m somewhat amazed. I never realized that most of the time when you go to the dentist office to get your teeth cleaned and stuff 90% of the time you’re seeing the dental hygienist who cleans your teeth and not the actual dentist. And then dental hygienist make very good decent money and all you need is an associates degree. Don’t see why more people don’t do it.

I’m just now finishing up spring semester of my junior year (finals start tomorrow!). Things are really different in our program because of covid, but I’m hopeful. DH school is no joke but it’s important to remember what your goal is and that this is a hurtle to achieving that goal!

I have been watching your videos for a few years since I started community college and I finally got accepted into the dental hygiene program! I’m so excited to start this journey, your videos really kept me motivated and I’m so excited to start!!! Out of curiosity, how old were you when you started? I’m 21, is that considered “younger”?
I am currently in a bachelors program in Oregon. We didn’t have to take the TEAS test, but we did have a interview. For the interview we had a group activity and then an individual interview. Ours was a lot of ethics types questions for the interview. I got my acceptance email one week after the interview. This is my third trimester and it is online right now, but hopefully we will be back in the summer to start seeing patients! Ready for the next 2 years be tough but so worth it!
I studied 3 straight days for Teas test and got 67. most of the schools in my state allow 2 attempts a year. I'll retake it before applying for 2021

Where I live there isn’t a community college that provides dental hygiene but there’s a university that offers the dental hygiene program.(which I got into!) find a community college that has the program, figure out what their prereqs are. If there is a closer community college go to that to take ur prereqs then apply to to other community college that has the program.

I may have a chance. I retook some prerequisites to get a higher grade and higher GPA. Definitely helped! Anything there's just reading based and not as tough, I took online. Over the top classes, I took in lecture, and classes I was confident in and had some knowledge before entering, I took hybrid ( one day lecture, the rest online) I even have an F that I replaced with a C and a D replaced with a B. It's just a matter of putting in the time and work

@@Marigo1ds biggest advice is try not to have Cs for your sciences, based on the program here. Cs hurt you. And try to be finished with your prerequisites when applying. Because I was in the process of two classes and had a few Cs which pushed me back. However, I met with the coordinator and she said my application would have been near perfect if it wasn't for those.
I graduated with my AA and completed pre reqs for hygiene. I just graduated from dental assisting which was also a req for hygiene school here FL . I’m in the process of applying now and some colleges require that u take the CDA(certified dental assistant) exam too!
