I’m 22 with a 2 year old and dropped out of college at 19 because I had no idea what I wanted to do but now… I’m going back to community college in January to take the class requirements to apply for dental hygiene program. Thank you for your info! It’s so helpful.
Hi person on UA-cam I don’t know lol your comment just resonated with me since I had my son at 20 and went back to school for dental hygiene pre-reqs at 22 while I was a dental assistant. BUT I quit. Now here I am 34 finishing A&P Lec/Lab 1 and then I just have A&P 2 & Biology remaining. So I just wanted to tell you to stick with it. It might feel tough at times but it won’t get any easier the longer you wait ☺️ I wish you the best!!!
I graduated 11 years ago my biggest piece of advice is there is NOTHING wrong with community college. Unless you get accepted at a 4 year and have lots of scholarship/grant opportunity, I highly recommend doing any prerequisite work for whatever program you chose at a community college and then transfer to a 4 year to complete your degree (unless of course you decide on a two year program). I say this as someone who went to a 4 year as a freshman and decided later I wasn’t happy in my current program and wanting to switch majors, now I had like 50 credits that are worthless = lots of debt. CC is way more affordable and offers way more flexibility if you do change your degree plan and need additional prereq work!! I wish you the best!!!!! Sorry this is just coming from someone who wishes they could go back and do things over.
I’m so excited to start dental hygiene school! Last week was our first week and can’t wait to learn all the new things! So surreal watching these videos hoping to become a dental Hygienist and then finally getting accepted into a program and becoming one!

Hey, I’m currently going to be a senior in high school and I’m aspiring to become a dental hygienists. Im planing on taking college courses while in high school, but I’m still not sure what classes should I enroll in to help me in my dental hygienist career. Or should I just worry about getting my GEs out of the way first? By the way, I would love to mention how amazing your videos are and how I’m extremely grateful for your content. KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WORK!!🙏
Hi, Maria! I recommend Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, English 101, and Psychology or Sociology 101 (dual enrollment for high school AND college credit). Consider taking either General Chemistry or Microbiology over the summer. It'll lessen the load come Fall semester of college. Take a look at what prerequisites are required by the Dental Hygiene programs you're interested in and consult with the academic counselors there to make sure you're on the right pathway. I wish you the best! :)
How did you pay for dental hygiene school? Did you get loans and if you did. Did you make sure to improve your credit before applying for loans? At the school in my county is $80,000 and it’s the cheapest.
Wow! I love your videos and have actually purchased products from Happy Teeth. I am starting DH school next in a little over a week and I am so happy to hear you have volunteer opportunities !!

I have two questions: 1. Is it really going to be that hard studying and working to maintain tuition 2. Is it going to difficult to find a job once finished getting the associates? Thank you🙏🏻
Everyone is different and it depends on lots of different variables - for example - if you're attending an accelerated program or not! And, generally no it is not hard to find a job with an associates. Every area and office is different - but a clinical hygienist has the same skills whether they have a bachelors or associates. Hope this helps!
I'm with you girl. A little bit on the perfectionist side. I could really use some help finding a school I'm in Buffalo NY. I came across your video trying to get the biggest head start because I've been trying to find a career that wouldn't be to physically demanding but still enjoyable and helpful to my community. So really making sure it's something I'm going to want to do and it sounds like a big yes for me.
Your videos are so l and amazing. These videos are soooo educational and fun! Though I am learning, you make it fun. I love you and your videos. You’re amazing! Happy teeth! ✌🏻❤️🦷
Hi! I’m 30 years old, have Bachelors in Marketing, supportive husband with his own full time job, 3 kids (5, 3, 1). I’ve been researching this career like crazy and feel it’s perfect for me. I’m guessing I might have to wait until all three of my kids are in elementary school full time or look for a full time nanny during RDA school. I guess my question is….is it even possible for busy moms to complete this schooling? Everyone says it’s non-stop go go go, but realistically I would also have to take care of my family. Side note traits about my personality - I’m a straight A, 4.0 gpa, perfectionist, super human multitasker.

Somewhat of a random question, I’ve been watching some videos on dental hygiene school and almost all of them state how tough it is and how you can’t fall behind. So my question is, what happens if you get hurt/sick in the middle of the program and it affects your work?
I love your videos ❤! I really love that you know you have a younger audience and there are different types of personalities in the dental field. I have two questions on the video. Did you get breaks (summers, winters, springs, etc.) and from what you know, would all these things be helpful to dental school as well?
Thank you SO much for watching and commenting! I did get breaks - however my program was not accelerated - it was normal semesters. Each school and program is different! I feel this video IS more for dental hygiene school because dental school starts with mostly lectures - so the clinical stuff would not really apply! However the "self care" stuff applies massively!!! Hope this helps :)
Can you do a video on importance (standard of care) of dental dams. Are both dental assistants and dental hygienists able to do? What is the difference in the scope of practice between hygienist and assistant?
Good video idea! I'll work on content about dental dams! And - I have a video all about the differences between dental hygienists and dental assistants: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/dental-assistant-versus-dental-hygienist?rq=dental%20hygienist%20dental%20assistant
I need a lot of info to become one ^_^ I'm a single mom and finally I found something I really want to do in life. I would love to hear jobs for students like me that wants to have steps closer to dental offices, I currently work in Pharmacy and finishing my pre-requisites then will apply for Dental Hygiene Program. Wish me luck. I'm excited but I'm also a little anxious.

I was wondering for yourself personally and what you may have seen throughout your career as a RDH, what do employers/employees think of those who graduate from a trade school? The schools closest to me are all private for profit ie SJVC, Concorde, etc and I didn't know if graduating from something like that might hurt my chances in being hired. Thank you!
Hey hey! It's definitely a competitive program...but everyone is different! Here are a couple of my videos about DH school that you might like: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh/high-school-to-become-a-hygienist?rq=high%20school and ua-cam.com/video/GqCKI3xM8pg/v-deo.html
We use 8-1 clock position. My personal favorites are 8,9, and ,12. I can personally say that rest is key. Right now, we are currently catching up with our clinic requirements from last semester and this semester. Our clinic sessions are Monday to Friday 8-5. 😴😵
Is Dental Hygiene school super difficult? I’ve heard that it’s a lot of studying which is something I expect to do in post secondary. But I’m just wondering if I’m going to be able to do it
Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You just really have to set the time aside to study and practice the material. Think 3 hours minimum a day of studying at home after school
I WISH there were proper DH schools in Alabama still. I’m an adhp graduate and I’ve been in dental 8 years but to have that degree would be amazing 😭😭 and I could actually move.
Ín our country dentist uses dentalhygenist as dental assistant, even if you have a BA degree. There are some places where you can work alone but most of the time you are an assistant. I want to go abroad amd work there:(
Thank you for watching! Generally, to enter DH school, you are required to have your vaccines updated. I'm sure it varies from program to program and I am not sure about DA school. Hope this helps!
Im a dental hygienist in Norway. I love your videos. I want to start working for a big company and step out of the clinic and focus in some other area. Id like to work in office with products or administration. Is their any studies/courses you would recommend me to take, or would that be waste? How should I go forward with finding this ideal job?
Hi Whitney. I will be starting my hygiene school in the next few months and it is the accelerated one. Would you recommend reading a head as someone told me there is lots of information.
How hard is the program? People say it’s really challenging, I’m not stupid but I’m also not the smartest person. I’m really nervous I won’t be smart enough.

This is so cheerful!! I’m writing a letter to my future self☺️ thank you!!!
Thanks YOU SO MUCH MIMI!!!☺️☺️
I’m currently working as a dental assistant and I just got accepted into dental hygiene school I start next month 😊😇

GREAT video idea! I will def look into it!!!! Thank you! Sending positive toothy vibes your way :)

YAY! I've never loved a comment so much ;) Thank you SO much for commenting and sharing! I'm so excited for you! Sending positive toothy vibes your way :)
Was it hard to get into?
I have two questions:
1. Is it really going to be that hard studying and working to maintain tuition
Teeth Talk Girl Thanks for taking time of your day to answer my questions! Great vid btw
I'm with you girl. A little bit on the perfectionist side. I could really use some help finding a school I'm in Buffalo NY. I came across your video trying to get the biggest head start because I've been trying to find a career that wouldn't be to physically demanding but still enjoyable and helpful to my community. So really making sure it's something I'm going to want to do and it sounds like a big yes for me.
here's my page listing all the accredited DH schools -- teethtalkgirl.com/rdh hope this helps! wishing you the BESTTTT toothy journey :)
Your videos are so l and amazing. These videos are soooo educational and fun!
Though I am learning, you make it fun.
I love you and your videos. You’re amazing! Happy teeth! ✌🏻❤️🦷
Thank you SO MUCH for watching and for commenting kind :) I appreciate it more than you know!
Shes like the perfect person to talk about dental school.
Love this! Just got accepted into the program and start this fall!! 🤩
congrats!!! so excited for you :)
Lucky!!! I’m still waiting to get accepted 😖
@@Catossa I know the feeling of waiting but just believe in yourself! Everything will fall into place how it’s supposed to!
How did it go, did you graduate?
I did graduate! 😊 Working as well 🎉

I'm on a full ride scholarship at a community college ☺️ AND they have their own dh school after i finish pre reqs and gens. I cant believe i was gonna pay 10k a year at a private college, im so excited to become an rdh!!!
Which community college is that I would repay appreciate to you getting back to me on that
@@mahadmahamud2875 I wish I knew too, I don’t even see anything related to DH in community colleges anywhere in my city
I’m finishing my basics and I’m going to apply I hope I get called once I do apply 🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️
First video I watched on this channel. I love your energy! You make me wanna study dental hygiene hahaha 🦷
thank you so much for watching! sending positive energy you're way :)
Somewhat of a random question, I’ve been watching some videos on dental hygiene school and almost all of them state how tough it is and how you can’t fall behind. So my question is, what happens if you get hurt/sick in the middle of the program and it affects your work?
You should make a video on dental hygienist stereotypes!! I feel like that would be so funny. 😂😂
hahahaha YES! Great video idea! Adding to my list ;)
Teeth Talk Girl Yay!! Looking forward to the video!!
I’m a DA and want to go to school for this so bad, only thing stopping me is being a single mom of a 7 year old 😭
I start my first week of dental hygiene next
Week!
yay you got this! sending you all the positive toothy vibes :)
@@TeethTalk into my third week already. Man. It’s rough lol. But it’s also exciting!
I'm excited but I'm also a little anxious.
so excited for you!!! wishing you all the positive toothy vibes!!! here is my career hub if you want to read more about dental hygiene: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh
@@TeethTalk I truly appreciate this. I will surely read this! 😊😊😊💖
I watch videos at 1.5 speed...she's totally even more a riot at that speed.
LOL!
Im so stressed about this :((( I feel like im not gonna have any time to hang out with my family/ bf/ or go to work
sorry! don't be stressed! it's all good! you will make time it's all about time management :) wishing you the best!
Thank you!
Hi, I'm a senior in high-school and im wondering if the classes are hard and how was your experience when taking courses.
Hey hey! It's definitely a competitive program...but everyone is different! Here are a couple of my videos about DH school that you might like: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh/high-school-to-become-a-hygienist?rq=high%20school
and ua-cam.com/video/GqCKI3xM8pg/v-deo.html
Can I work full time and go into dental hygiene school?
We use 8-1 clock position. My personal favorites are 8,9, and ,12. I can personally say that rest is key. Right now, we are currently catching up with our clinic requirements from last semester and this semester. Our clinic sessions are Monday to Friday 8-5. 😴😵
Thank you SO much for watching and commenting! Sending positive toothy vibes your way during your clinic sessions!!!
I want to go abroad amd work there:(
As 18 year old I cant wait to start dental hygiene school
yay so excited for you! sending positive toothy vibes your way!
I’m starting Monday!
YAY! Wishing you the best! You got this!
Your hair is perfect... so is everything else 😍
OH WOW thank you for this kind comment! It never is...just got it cut that day I remember so my hair stylist made it look nice! ha!
I love your personality ❤️😊🥰🥰🥰
thank you for your kind comment!
We use 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 o'clock! I mainly use 8 o'clock, 11, and 12. Really only use 9 o'clock to probe sextant 6, lingual.
I love your videos so much!💕 also I have one question do all dental hygienist/assistant required to get vaccines
Thank you for watching! Generally, to enter DH school, you are required to have your vaccines updated. I'm sure it varies from program to program and I am not sure about DA school. Hope this helps!
Thank you!
What do you mean vaccines? Your videos are super helpful.
We learn 8, 9, 11, and 12!!!!
haha seeee! so wild! I only learned 8 and 11!!!
I've been an assistant for 8 years. Will this make hygiene school easier?
How hard is the program? People say it’s really challenging, I’m not stupid but I’m also not the smartest person. I’m really nervous I won’t be smart enough.
You will be great! It's lots of hard work and busy work and you can do anything you set your mind to :)
Thank you!
Baby girl u should design a HUGH bag for dental hygienist where we can put our shoes or dirty scrubs on an underneath compartment, two side things for our water bottle and our coffee 🦷 I need a bag big enough to put my loupes, shoes, makeup bag,Lunchbag ..Etc please 🥺...Love u
YAY YES! Work tote is in the making :) :) :) :) :)
Teeth Talk Girl I love it!!Make it hugh lol I’m making a video on one that I bought at Walmart but I’ll mention your future one on my channel cuz you know I’ll buy it 🦷❤️👊🏼
What’s the schedule like in DH school? How many Hours of class per day? And how many days of class per week ?
Thank you in advance!
it depends on the program length and if it's accelerated or not. here is a list of all the accredited DH schools in the US - hope this helps: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh/dental-hygiene-programs-and-requirements
Hi, been binge watching all your videos trying to get a plan together and jump into dental hygiene school. Im just really confused if an AS in dental hygiene is it, or is there an actual "dental hygiene school" seperate that you need to attend after your associates? Thanks 😊
the associates is a final degree - you wouldn't need more school after that unless you wanted a bachelors too :) here is my RDH portal on my website with all the details - hope this helps: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh
@@TeethTalk thank you!
It must be fun!
Great video 🤙
Hi I have a swollen gums in my upper front teeth. I got cleaning but nothing happens.😭 What should I do or is there a reason why my gums are swollen for months😭 Thank you!
I would definitely visit your dentist/dental hygienist for an exam to evaluate your gums. I'll link a video that further explains that! Hope this helps: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/gingivitis?rq=gingivitis
im currently in school right now but my school offers dental assistant and dental hygienist combined its called a 1 plus 1 program but im a little nervous as to what expect . my retention span is not that good so i need advice and tips on how to memorize info. also, when you studied , you studied the important info correct?
Hii! Hopefully you will see this, i have a crazy fear of needles, do dental hygienist use needles?
This is what I'm afraid of not being able to do. (REST) this happen when I took my prerequisites. I got so little sleep.
I’m a sophomore in college and I haven’t been able to volunteer or shadow at a dentist office bc of covid but I’m planning on applying to a dental hygiene school next year so what does everyone recommend about during the time of covid?
As DH are you required to lift heavy objects at all? I want to become a DH but I am coming off a past work injury and have weight restrictions...
Do you take entrance exam for the program?
most programs do - but the exam itself may differ depending on the school!
