The lyric is, officially: “Waited on a line of greens and blues.” As for what that means, the prevailing theory is that “greens” represent jealousy and “blues” represent depression.
Google is awesome ;)
Right. "Green with envy".
@@TechItOut Thank Goodness!. But we still have to be able to decipher between truth and lies. So they are only awesome half the time.
This isn't the meaning. The lead singer came out an said in an interview it was a reference to the colors of a mood ring he owned.
That is what I always imagined it meant, but was never certain.
You need to see them singing it.
Eric Martin was definitely underrated as a singer!!
One of the great unrequited love songs, "To Be With You" has a true story behind it. Mr. Big lead singer Eric Martin wrote the song when he was still a teenager - 16 or 17 in his estimation. The girl was Patricia Reynolds, and he had it bad for her
"We were really, really good friends," Martin said in an interview "I was totally enamored with this woman. She was beautiful. Smart. I mean, brains, beauty, break down the walls, made me crawl on my belly like a reptile!
I just loved this woman, but she just wanted to be my friend. She'd have tons of boyfriends, and maybe she misconstrued promiscuity for love. But I wanted to be the knight in shining armor. That's what I was, a knight in shining armor. But basically, I didn't get my feet wet. I wrote it about how I would have done anything to just be more than a friend and a confidante."
By the time he put this song together, Eric Martin knew that he and Patricia were not to be. He had a different motivation by this point. "I wrote it mainly to impress my sister's girlfriends," he said
I’m sure now Patricia is regretting everything. The geeky/nerd unathletic or quiet type, usually when they grow up, get their ladies eventually.
Eric Martin, the lead singer, said in an interview, "Waiting on a line of greens and blues…’ I had a mood ring when I was a kid. I threw that in to be quirky." So it was a reference to a mood ring.
Mr. Big is basically a supergroup. All of the members are top tier in their craft.
Exactly, I think that's they named their group MR. BiG cause they are all big name.
This guitar player,, is way beyond what you can hear and see.
I saw this guy sit around playing everything people could shout out,, he did yngwie,Vai,van halen,,really won me over.
And he makes his living teaching guitar.
Their bass player is a legend
Paul Gilbert is a beast!
Just take my heart is another great jam by them.
2 of my male friends sung this song to me while playing on their guitars when we were teens and it is a memory I'll never forget. This song will always remind me of that night. They also serenaded me More Than Words from Extreme
"Don't Close Your Eyes" by Kix awesome 80's power ballad!!
I fucking love this song! I remember when this song first came out back in the day and until this day I still love it. it’s so simple but it’s so genius!
I was 9 when this came out and I remember listening to it at my first Valentine’s Day party outside of school with boys allowed lol This song will always have a special place in my heart ♥️
I always thought greens meant jealousy/envy and blues meant depression but that was cleared up when the lead singer did an interview explaining that the line was about literally waiting in line to talk to a girl he liked and greens and blues represented a mood ring she had given to him.
Their song Just Take My heart is a real good power ballad. Green Tinted Sixties Mind is another excellent song by them. I seen these guys several times and the are one of the best sounding bands live. You wouldn't know it from this song but the guitar player Paul Gilbert is fire on the six strings.
My wife's aunt and Grandma saw them live and got to meet them and took a picture with them at like a rock and blues festival back in the 80s.
According to lead singer Eric Martin, here's what waited on a line of greens and blues means: It’s a two-parter. Patricia was really a super pretty girl-she was so smart and poetic and Zen-y. But there were some days that I just couldn’t get a chance to talk to her, and I had to wait in line to talk to her. There would be so many boys in front of me. So that’s ‘waiting on a line.’
“And ‘greens and blues’: She gave me a mood ring, and greens were happy and blues were sad. ‘Waiting on a line of greens and blues’ … it wasn’t just about me, it was about her. Because she’d have all this attention and everybody loved her, but then she’d fall in love and they’d break her heart.”
Saw this band twice. Didn't want to, but they were opening for Rush. On the final show of the Pesto tour. Billy and Paul came out and jammed with Rush on Working Man.
This song is about a man friend-zoned with a woman he's in love with, watching her go through relationship after relationship, wishing she would just LOOK at him that way just once.
Loved this song! Every cover band,in the nineties, did this song😂
This is just one of the best songs EVER. A little sad you didn't do the awesome video. But still glad to see this reaction.
This is one of my favorite 80's ballads. If i was into Karaoke, this would be my shit for sure.
I saw these guys live when they opened up for Rush back in the 90s. They were good...Rush easy awesome!!!!!
Same! ‘93-ish?
@@mattgarfinkle978 it was the Presto tour!
i was sooooo excited to see you were reacting to this...one of my all time favorites....and then it was the damn lyric video.....broke my heart
Greens and Blues are a reference of jealousy (greens) and depression (blues), since we have the phrase "green with envy" and often say being depressed is feeling blue.
Mr. Big is the name of the band, just a heads up.
And, as far as I can recall this was their only hit. But they did do a nice cover of the Cat Stevens song "Wild World".
Mr. Big rocks hard, with top musicians in it.
Waited on the line of greens and blues. The colors represent happy and sad moods.
4:10 - i low-key googled it as you asked, and it blew my mind with how much it makes sense... I'm sure it's been answered but walked the line of "greens" (envy/jealousy) and "blues" (depression/sadness) 🤯 all these years and i just never questioned it... lol
that actually kind of explains why i like the song so much... i've lived on that line 😂
Their version of the Cat Stevens song 'Wild World," is one of my favorites.
Wild World by them is so great! I absolutely LOVE Mr. Bigs' version!
The greens are "Happy" the blues are "Sad" got to hear more from Mr. Big they are killer!
Green with envy.
@@tobybostick5570 Thats better! makes more sense.
Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy.....the live version. Amazing band. Eric Martin's voice.
Amazing album all around. I still listen to it.
Yes! Definitely do this song!
Love this song and it brings me back to the early childhood in the early 90’s, I love the melody and vocals
This is a great ballad, but they are more hard rock usually. Singer Eric Johnson, guitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan and the late great Pat Torpey on drums.
Check out Addicted To That Rush for a feel of their harder edge. 🎶🎶🎸
The video you need to see is Addicted to That Rush Live in Budokan.
I'd like to see that.
I saw Billy Sheehan give a solo performance in a local bar, the guy was a virtuoso. Comparable to Steve Howe. Too bad this song doesn't give him an opportunity to show his skill. (It's still a good song though.) I didn't remember this was his band, I'm glad you listed the artists, thank you! Sheehan was also in Talas, a fantastic local WNY band.
@@christinerobinson9372 Talas was where I first heard of him too.... probably in a Circus or Hit Parader mag lol. He played bass for a Mr Big cover of Take Cover with the young drummer Yoyoka couple years ago. Very cool🎶
He had a wonderful voice! 1989-90 I think.
EVERY girl loved this song when it came out...and they still love it today when they hear it in the grocery store
Haha! That’s funny. 😎☮️❤️
I used to love this song when I was a little kid.
You should have watched the official video. They look nothing like you probably visualize. Incredible bass player in this band.
I always thought it meant the Greens and Blues meant the Bus lines he had to take to get to her.
Watch the music video. The lead singer is sooo cute!
Chorus is catchy af 😂 gonna be in my head for days now, not for the first time!
The whole album is fabulous. Holds ip
I have always loved this song.Great reaction as always.Edwin McCain wrote one of the most beautiful love ballads ever in my opinion, the song is called I'll Be,hopefully you two will react to it one day.Stay blessed and spread the love!
A roster of magnificent musicians... song for the unrequited
Nice vocals!
Just take my heart by Mr. Big
Glad you reacted to them! They have a lot of great songs, such as Green Tinted Sixties Mind, Take My Heart, Addicted to that Rush and many more. You should these out.
Damn! You guys are on a roll! I'm loving it! ❤
Thank you for the support!!
The way every womans eyes light up when they hear the lyrics
Lines of greens and blue meaning is a mood ring watching her mood
Greens and blues so strong
They got famous for this song, but these guys rock out, and they are world class musicians.
I loved that song when I was a teenager...early 90's.
Fantastic song I love watching the video
Another mostly acoustic song that came out the same time as this was "More than words" by Extreme
3:57 - David Lee Roth would contend that.
Y'all should check out "In a Simple Rhyme", by Van Halen. It's got similar subject matter, and it rocks.
2:19 - A song on that subject is "Hold Your Head Up", by Argent.
Green with envy, blue as in having the blues.
Before iTunes and CDs you could buy the music either on tape of the entire album but they also had single cassettes. You’d get the single and on the second side you’d get snippets of three other songs. I had this one and wore it smooth out.
Got to see the video to this, also check out their remake of Cat Stevens - Wild World
I read where it had to do with his mood ring turning green and blue
Can't believe i saw this, Paul Gilbert is a friend of mine, he was the lead guitarist for Mr. Big, the green means you are in envy, as in you wish you were the guy she was with, the blue means you feel blue, a good person feeling bad because you are hurt., I can ask if Paul would be willing to come on here and explain the whole song. Let me know
Waiting on the lines of green and blue is in reference to a mood ring. The ring would turn either green or blue depending on your mood
The sound of the nylon string classical guitar was an unexpected bonus.
You can't officially listen to this without watching the video
You have to do the video on this one .. you’d appreciate it mostly
Waiting on a line of greens and blues means she was wearing the greens signify happiness and the blues signify sadness or disappointment
Waiting on a line of greens and blues
Means : She was wearing a mood ring
The greens mean happiness
The blues signify despair or disappointment
U.S. Billboard #1 1992.
Great pick!
Good band ❣️
Gotta see the vid!
I always thought the green was envy and the blue was sadness. He's waiting for the moment to be right.
i always took "waitin on a line of greens and blues" to mean : Having to have patience because green is having jealousy & green knave expectations and Blue is for the disappointments .
What happened to videos? This is another great song that if you see the video to it, it makes it even better to see the passion they put into this song !
Love this song. What was it, 91?
It came out during my middle school years. Great memories.
try Mr. Big - Wild World, Just Take My Heart, Colorado Bulldog, The Whole World's gonna Know, Nothing But Love and Green-Tinted Sixties Mind for me their best songs of all their discography.
Alive and kicking by Mr Big
Great reaction by the almost famous Asia and BJ!! From here the only logical next song is "Try" by Blue Rodeo!! Cheers,
Reminds me of high school lol ❤
Oh one of my favs from way back...🤗 "waited on a line of blues and greens"...represents unrequited love in a sense...he sees her wasting time on losers and he knows he'd treat her better if she'd only see that...
Greens and blues is actually referring to a mood ring he had as a kid. Eric Martin said this in an interview.
the great Paul Gilbert on guitar. RIP to the drummer.
Love your reaction
I always thought that waiting on a line of greens and blues meant sunny days and sad days...open to interpretation but ya won't find a bad one😎
"Greens & Blues" = "envy [green] (of others near you) & "sadness" [blue] (being separated from you)
This band has one of the all-time great virtuoso guitarists Paul Gilbert and all-time great virtuoso bassist Billy Sheehan. They obviously don't showcase those virtuoso skills during this song though. The singer Eric Martin one of the great singers of melodic rock and drum beast Pat Torpey (RIP). All Star band with phenomenal song writing. Check out one of the more rockin tunes to see the virtuoso skillset. Addicted To That Rush is a great one for that.
☮️💜
greens and blues is jealousy and sadness
Just Take My Heart plz. Awesome reaction guys.
i have listened to this song a bunch of times and never once has it sounded like greens and blues, it sounds like dreams and blues.
The video for this is EVERYTHING!! ❤😊Check out Free by them too.
"addicted to that rush" is the jam
shoot, make sure you watch the video
My uncle told me a story about when him and our cousin went to see them with their girlfriends. Anyway my cousin JB'S girlfriend was the one that the lead singer picked out in the audience and sung this song straight to her because they were in front. My cousin got jealous 😎😎😎🤣🤣😂😂
Green and blues reference is the jealousy and the blues that she gets because it is blinding her to what they could have which is them being together.
Green and blue fevers to the old mood rings
You couldn't have picked a better song to start your Mr. Big reaction.
The complete opposite side of the band you must hear Addicted To That Rush. Bass player Billy Sheehan is the Van Halen of bass players
Please do Grand Funk Railroad "Inside Looking Out". Love 1969 version to feel the passion they put into this song.
I suggested this a couple of times,,
I give up.
If you remember,in the old days,,lots of great "underground" cuts,,got buried under the top 40 hits.
That is the situation now in reactions.
If it goes off ,suggestions, popularity, then it is limited to the knowledge of the audience.
So,, thats why reactors hear "freebird", before they hear "Curtis loew"
I feel you need to see the video clip to appreciate this song more.
Kinda like it just came out one night at a campfire…… ❤️🎼❤️
Classic!💜
Now Please, Please check out some Lee Moses, covers of California Dreamin and Hey Joe, and hi's original Bad Girl part 1&2,plenty to choose from 💜
Underrated legend 🤷♂️🔥
I take "waited on a line of greens and blues" to mean that he's been waiting his turn behind the green and blue eyed boys for his chance with her.
Back in high school I looked just like the lead Singer lol.
Did you watch thier video to this song? I think it adds a really nice touch to the music. Lot's of videos actually distract from a song, but the video for this adds to it, in my opinion.
