Brothers Liam ( lead singer ) and Noel ( lead guitar ) Gallagher were the faces of the band and wrotethe songs. Noel sang this song and he did a great job.

This song is from 1995, and is one of those songs everyone in the UK knows and always joins in when it plays. After the Manchester Arena bombing the people of Manchester (where Oasis are from) all congregated to remember those who died ,and were injured and just started singing this song in solidarity for Manchester and in tribute to everyone affected. It truly was remarkable.

You would think that whoever wrote (and sang) this song is a mellow guy... Nope! Oasis were the 90's version of The Beatles musically... but the band was involved in a lot of fighting, cussing and turmoil w/ drugs & alcohol. They were fodder for the tabloids in Britain (and America too!) during their peak in the 90's decade. Oasis were called 'alternative rock'... but that hurt their popularity after 2000, when that 90's scene went out. The band carried on their brand of modernized 60's rock music until 2009.
Oasis was primarily lead singer Liam Gallagher and his brother, Noel Gallagher (guitar/ vocals/ songwriter) who were always at odds w/ each other... their conflicts ultimately split up the band in 2009. Noel sang lead on "Don't look back in anger" from this 1995 album "(What's the story) Morning glory"... which also delivered major hits like 'Wonderwall'... 'Champagne supernova' ... and 'Some might say' 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Other Oasis classics - 'Live forever'... 'Supersonic' ... 'Columbia'... "D'you know what I mean?" ... 'Stand by me'... 'Go let it out'

Oasis will always have a special place in my heart and my identity.
"Wonderwall" gave me comfort and safety back in 1995, when I at the age of 11 had just witnessed my aunt die from cancer, after most of my family had passed away from the same disease in the years before.
Oasis is one of the greatest bands of all time and that is just an objective fact.

The Beatles - and especially John Lennon - were a huge influence on Oasis, and that influence is perhaps most apparent in this song. The piano intro was taken from Lennon's "Imagine," and the line "So I start a revolution from my bed" is a reference to the sing, who staged a famous "bed-in" to promote peace.

Plenty of oasis records out there for you to hear.
I think they're in the Guinness book of records for the most consecutive top 10 hits.
People put them in the indie/alternative music.
But oasis will tell you they're just a rock n roll band.
Some of their early stuff might even be considered punk rock.
They was basically the soundtrack to my life in the 90's.

Oasis were an English Britpop band which is a subgenre of Alternative Rock. Britpop was a movement created in response to Grunge during Grunge's peak of popularity. The goal of Britpop was to create the opposite to Grunge's more heavy and dark lyrics by creating songs that make you feel happy, with soft singing and instruments.

  • @yournamehere6002
    @yournamehere6002 2 роки тому +3

Alternative was coined as a catchall phrase when Nirvana hit in 1991, and bands who previously would've been considered "College Rock" "Underground" or "Post Punk" were placed under the umbrella term Alternative, which, aside from Grunge, also encompassed Power Pop, Power Punk, Trip Hop, Lounge, Kindercore, Alt Country, Ska revival, Swing Revival etc.......and Brit Pop, which is what Oasis fell under. It was a term created as a way to market music that wasn't easily categorized or wouldn't fit the conventional pop music model.

The Beatles and John Lennon, especially had an influence on Oasis, and Noel as the songwriter. Noel said that "So I start a revolution from my bed" is a reference to John Lennon's famous "bed-in" to promote peace. Also, he borrowed the line "the brains I had went to my head" from Lennon's tape-recorded notes for a memoir he was planning to write before his death.

  • @simonrobinson10

Oasis was part of a 'scene' in the UK called Britpop, which was a post Nirvana reimvention of guitar music over here post the Rave/Dance scene of the early 90s
Noel (guitars and songwriter) sang vocals on this instead of his brother Liam
They fell out a lot, the band split in 2009, they still dont speak
Loads of good bands came from the same era - Blur, Elastica, Pulp, Supergrass, Garbage, L7 - tons of new guitar bands that inspired others (Kasabian etc)
Saw Oasis 4 times at big stadium gigs, an awesome night each time!
For other songs, you can pretty much find a classic on either of their first 2 albums (Definitely...Maybe and Whats The Story (Morning Glory) )
They did about 7 albums - are bangers on each one.
The Importance of Being Idle is a great tune.

My recommendations for an intro to the band, as a guy who is from the same era and same part of the world as Oasis would be: Live Forever, Supersonic, Slide Away, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Stand By Me. Although I just found out the song was written about drug users throwing their lives away and they need to wake up and get it together, I never knew that as my interpretation for the song was simply the "wake up, get out, get life, don't throw your life away' part :).

They definitely rocked in the 90's. Iwould call them pop/rock. People here in the states thought they were the next beatles but the brothers couldn't stop fighting and the band broke up. I was definitely rockin to oasis back in the day

It's 94 , I think. They were HUGE from 93 -96. Had several albums in 3 years. And gone. Proverbial shooting star.

Interesting. For me who who grew up in 90's... as a grunge and 3rd wave punk kid oasis gave me vibes of the beatles poprock numbers and the feeling of old times in a new dress!
    You today say the same!
So Noels singwriting was just outstanding! Timeless...

They were heavily influenced by The Beatles and often referred to them in various ways, like 'I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed' which is a direct reference to Lennon and their song 'Wonderwall' is a George Harrison album name. also Liam named his son Lennon. Great song.

Definitely, Maybe is a great Oasis album but (What's The Story) Morning Glory? -- the record this song is on -- is from 1995, and there's at least 5 other songs on it y'all could react to and love. The whole album is amazing.

Champagne supernova is one of my faves and so many others! When you get to know the music there life story adds to how amazing Oasis were and how crazy Liam was in the 90s! I would love it if you can watch Liam's funny moments or documenters on Oasis! Two working class brothers from tough backgrounds in North England who made it big!!!!

I don't quite understand the fascination with genre of music, I grew up liking what I liked. I find alot of the reactors who are way younger than me seem to want to put everything in a box. However looking back different decades had different sounds which is somewhat interesting.

Oasis was classed as Brit rock/pop they was huge in the mid to late 90s... Oasis dont make bad tunes, Stand By Me is awesome!!!
