I liked the part where Guthrie plays intricate chords and lightning-fast perfectly accurate scales mixed with creative bends in a huge variety of cool tones in perfect sync with his band who are also virtuosos.
It starts at 0:00 and goes to the end.
especially at 2:25:43

@@pierreschnehage8152 What?
You know that the crowd is full of musicians when you ask them to clap in 5/4 and it doesn't sound like complete nonsense after 2 bars
I'm a really terrible guitar player that always struggles with timing, but I can copy this clap no problemo... especially while Minneman fills what I find to be the uncomfortable spaces with his kick drum.
Zippy Leroux me too, this happen when someone is a great teacher and can teach to all
Where does this happen?
I went to an Aristocrats show and it was very, very obvious that at least 80% of the crowd were musicians.
Iuri Grangeiro It's in the song, "Furtive Jack".

He needs to pick up the marimba!
Guthrie Govan. The only person in the world that hits an off note on a fretless guitar and you can be sure he did it on purpose
He mentions in a premier guitar run-down (steven wilson) that he didnt have in-ears for this set and it was hard for him to hear if he was in tune on the fretless
guthrie is killer for sure. bumblefoot plays some mean fretless too
@bobluthier3031 you seen the video of them jamming at the NAMM show one year ? It's insane.
Dream theater didn't deserve Marco Minnemann.
My exact thoughts on the audition.
Annoyingly, Marco DID deserve the money he would have made from playing with them
I'm not sure if the people in this comment chain realize that Dream Theater didn't reject Marco, they were floored by him and wanted him in the band. They needed someone who could make Dream Theater their main focus, and he wasn't willing to do that. That part wasn't included in the doc because they didn't want MM to seem like a secondary choice.
Absolutely.
The thing is, Marco is not only an excellent drummer... He has kinda "photografic" (better said "videografic") musical memory... In 1991 he used to record nearly the whole CD "Senseless Wonder", just with the click... cos the bassist and guitarist were too stoned to play tight enough, so he kicked them out of the studio while drumming his ass off ;-) He used to warm up with playing along Zappa before recording for his band... I am sure he had been in Zappas band eventually.
English guitarist, German drummer, American bassist. Music is truly a wonderful world-wide experience.
Nein he is Austrian!!
@@gabrielbickerton4433 Nope! He is from Hanover (my hometown) on northern Germany.

This is the most ridiculously intricate display of musicianship I have ever seen. How is this even possible?
Try Matteo Mancuso
@@sjuozhunki I love both of them
@@sjuozhunki he's definitely comparable to them.
@sjuozhunki Check the recent interview he did with Rick Beato it is really good. Guthrie is consistently listed by great guitarists of our time, including Matteo Mancuso., as an idol of theirs or simply one of the best. Matteo is great.
These guys were born to play together... They have that marvel superhero names, they are all the same age, and they are all too good for any other band
I liked Guthrie and Marco with Steven Wilson - that is some awesome music
I just figured out Minneman and Beller played with Satriani.
Nathan Carrille lol yea GG,MM,BB, kinda weird
Apart the great tecnique, what makes them perfect is their songwriting and musical skills.
They know when to cool it, too. There’s a lot to say for that. Marco would have truly been wasted in Dream Theater, having to deal with the Petrucci/Rudess hierarchy. These guys are all perfect for one another.
By far, the most entertaining fusion trio on the planet. I've had the pleasure of meeting all three members, shared beers and laughs. Great humans! Great all around!
Weak claim to fame, bro

@@DrSpoculus You think its some kind of brag and not just him trying to convey that these guys are very nice. Says more about you and your pathetic ego
@@DrSpoculusweak claim, bro.
@@CBT5777I checked out the two albums on YT and was disappointed honestly. Only 2 of the songs sounded different enough from the others of all the songs. Same tones, same textures, same ish dynamics, same polyrhythm stuff. After listening through all of it, I skipped through each song and they all blended together. The two that were different were really cool though... no shade. They are very technically capable.
And still, all these years later, no one can begin to touch The Aristocrats.
Try Matteo Mancuso...
@@sjuozhunki Matteo is great, but Guthrie shows always new melodic ideas, like no one else. Also he is adopting to harmonies like no one else. Thats whats interesting. He is an improvise monster with some over the top technique.
@@LEXSTR-px4fn Yes exactly. And also - it's Guthrie's versatility. When I listen to Matteo, I am floored by his technique but I pretty much know what I am getting, and move on pretty quickly. With Guthrie, I will get some country licks, some blues rock, some jazz/fusion, some funk - always something interesting.

The hero we all needed 🙏
Ive been struggling to find the motivation to listen to music and play guitar lately. But now... MY FACE HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN MELTED
These guys will go down in history. Today’s equivalent of the old classic musicians. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and the crew would be proud
minnemann...wish every drummer knew how to listen like that.
irateyourvideo2 not everyone is a Mrummer like himself
On the other hand, when Lars drums, EVERYBODY else have to listen!
🤣🤣🤣
Okay, but seriously.. What the fuck, Guthrie? How can a human be this good? I swear, Guthrie is immortal. No mere mortal is capable of playing like that.
He is an alien wizard, you know, a wizard alien ^^
I would agree wholeheartedly with you...if it weren't for a cat named VAI!
They're both from the same planet...the planet of Alien Wizards!
Every guitarist, bassist and drummer should take a look at this! Technology at the highest level. This is how it sounds when three high-tech virtuosos play together. It is hardly possible to find better in this style. Unsurpassed virtuosity paired with endless imagination, irrepressible joy of playing, as well as absolute perfection. I don't find enough praise and superlatives for these guys.
couldn't have said that better in a billion years, maybe ! but I doubt it !!🍺
I think you meant "technicality"! Lolz :) Technology is in your smart phone, what we've got here is just pure talent.

I find it lacks some warmth and cohesion apart from moments where it does all come together in a musical fashion. Also, just my taste, but i find the guitarist really abrasive and angular! Anyhoo....i recommend having a listen to...John McLaughlin Trio live at Albert hall....and...Liquid Tension (Experiment)
I hope I find chemistry like this musically within my lifetime, I dont even care about getting famous or making money. just making music
If anybody is wondering why it sounds so good in surround sound, its because Steven Wilson mixed it. If that doesn't explain anything to you, go listen to Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree.
wilson is how i found out about GG and MM. i fuckin love em all
Fuck, I didn't know, Steven is a beast.
Steve’s done so much to keep prog progressing, let alone alive and vital!
Steven did an excellent job remixing YES'S RELAYER album too
Kyle S and all the gentle giant albums too
I've been a drummer for nearly 60 years and Marco Minnemman is my favorite drummer.
Damn, that Guthrie, always wielding his axe like an ancient Viking, cleaving audiences in two with his endlessly bold and brash guitar bravado! And let's never forget Bryan pulling the oars, driving the ship to ancient shores and uncharted waters, while Marco, the ever faithful helm, pounds the beat with fluid effortlessness. They're not Aristocrats, they're warriors!!
Gods of music.
Guthrie is a fusion between a human's feelings and a cyborg's perfectionism.
4:52 holy shit he snuck in inspector gadget

Flatlands is easily one of the most beautiful instrumental pieces of music ever written. Period.

Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest concert of 2016.
I think this was in 2012
I'm watching this with my parrot on my left shoulder. I think he also loves The Aristocrats.
That guitar solo during flatlands is just amazing. In my opinion Guthrie's best solo. And all improvised! It's astonishing how much raw emotion a man can put into a guitar solo.
Here in 2021 and I agree. I've been fans of theirs for a few years now and I've seen random clips of this concert now and then, but this was the first time I've watched the whole concert. The album version of Flatlands is beautiful, but the version here is absolutely transcendent. It made me order the CD/DVD. Thanks for uploading this!!!
There’s a moment in my life, that I played those solo before I sleep, for weeks lol
if you like that solo, i highly recommend checking out drive home - steve wilson, guthrie did a feature for the solo, and oh my fuck is it amazing.
I cant disagree.
That performance is on Spotify for anyone wondering.
I’ve watched this video a lot of times. Flatlands has so much to offer. I Want A Parrot is also insanely good. Guthrie has tremendous character in his playing
LMAO I just noticed "Mrums" and realized it was deliberate XD
I can finally say I saw the best guitarist in the entire world. Oh and the rest of the band is amazing too.

Proving once again, you never need an obnoxious ego to be the best. And these three humble virtuoso's are as good as it gets. Especially Guthrie... my ears light up smiling, while my jaw drops to the floor every time I hear him♥♫ Thanks for the magic!!;-)
wow. this is the first time i've ever heard of the band. they're excellent!
Ain't they just!
Understatement of the year!
I bet I've watched this 50 times now
I've come to the conclusion that these guys are Marvel super heroes. It's not just that all three have first and last names beginning with the same letter; it's that anyone who can play like that must have super powers.
Hahaha
every so often there's a Mozart or a Vai or a Govan & co. What can you do? Oh yeah, play in your room for ten years 4 hours a day.
Dude check out Greg Howe, he literally puts this guy to shame.
Greg Howe is ridiculously good..........but there is no shaming GG
Oh god, please stop, it is so painful. These guys are GODS not stupid made up characters in a fictional world...
The Liquid Tension Aristocrats
Marco Minnemman is amazing!
Ladies and gentle , Marco "freak of nature" Minneman on the mrums. An old producer and friend of mine Jerrold Laurner (and I believe his brother Johnathan) had just finished Marco's DW promotional video (filming and. tracking) and myself and my bandmates got a sneak peak before it hit the shelves while doing some tracking in Jerrold's own Hollywood studio. I remember as Jerrold was bringing up the project looking specifically at me (im also a drummer) and saying...."you'll never be this good. This guy is a FREAK OF NATURE"! Well, he was right on both accounts. Guy's a BEAST!!
I was going to make a joke about having learned the first phrase of the first song/only 372,216,873 to go... then I double checked the first phrase. Never mind.
Jazz Fusion, bro. It's hard
Imagine Rush but every song is YYZ.
+forkedtongue7 Wut?
+forkedtongue7 Wot?
YYZ is a song by Rush, the song shows the band's impeccable chemistry which The Aristocrats display in each piece.
+forkedtongue7 Rush has so much more than just YYZ for that though lol.
sure, like which songs?
I'm in shock. I didn't know such things this great existed out there. Inspiring to be sure!
The perfection these guys have achieved is out of any reach. The three of them, excellent performers in their instruments as well as incredible composers and organizers, they are bringing jazz rock into a new frontier.
I think Guthrie Govans' guitar is actually melded to his body, I've never seen him without it. He is the man who is the best, in a league of his own, a complete nuisance to my learning the guitar, a course in splendido perfection. Well tamed guitar.
Yes! BUY "Boing..." on DVD/CD! It will enrich your life!
I bought it, & I'm better for it!
Abnormal talentierte Musiker. Wahnsinn.....
I only discovered this now. I'm blown away.
The bassist is smooth af. Love it
The sheer Techincal Ability of Guthrie never stop amazing me... I feel everytime I watch him play hes doing something I havent seen before
i would just be crying the whole time if i went to this show. absolutely incredible, guthrie govan may be the star musician but rest of the trio is right in the pocket and supporting guthrie perfectly
There's some Robert Fripp DNA in That geetar! 🎶👌
Marco's virtuosity and style displays best in this band. He is for Aristocrats; Mangini is for DT.
Three of them, they all found a home in each others, a musical home
If the aliens land and challenge the world to a guitar competition...send Guthrie!
Flatlands ❤️...what a composition ,❤️
Agree. It's wonderful!
yeh that main groove hits well. I have had it on repeat all day
This ain't a concert it's a clinic. Masters all.
Years have passed, and Guthrie's take on flatlands never ceases to amaze me. What a masterclass in storytelling. I've yet to see a performance on guitar so complete on all levels. Absolute bliss. Gets me every time
As it is said “There’s one in every crowd,” and AMONG ALL who ever picked up & played the guitar - past and present -- Govan Guthrie IT IS.
Amen.
I can't explain how I feel about this masterpiece. This is definitely the best band of our generation and many years to come!
Wait... Guthrie Govan, Bryan Beller, Marco Minnemann... GG (Guitar), BB (Bass), MM (druMMer). Not to mention how the play individually and as a group. Are they even real?

I have come to the conclusion that Guthrie is the best guitar player ever (and will be forever). Sure, Jimi Hendrix did do some unique things with the strat and Clapton was called God, but Guthrie is in a league that I think no one will ever enter also. (just my personal opinion, please do not feel offended). Next to that, it is also a nice guy with a great sense of humor.
Try giving John McLaughlin a listen.
Agreed. His playing is tight and he never hits a bad note and he's only getting better. He's also fun to listen to. His sense of humor shows through his playing.

I dont think Ive had this much fun watching instrumental jazz fusion like this before. Before I knew it, I watched the whole thing. Their music is so creative and their chemistry is just magical to watch.
Most satisfying music I’ve heard for ages. Everything sonically perfect and playing is stupefyingly brilliant from all concerned. Top marks.
Let's take a moment to also appreciate the sound engineering and camera work of this sparkling clean on point production!
I may be biased , I am a drummer, alas the snare could have been better
Are we not gonna talk about how hilarious 49:15-50:50 is? The pinnacle of musical humor!
Guthrie is truly brilliant, we all know that, however, He seemed to be REALLY on it in this show! Damn, the playing is phenomenal!!!
It's amazing how some music just firmly ties to a specific moment in your life even when you didn't expect it to. I used to listen to Flatlands when I was doing this crazy ass Silithus grind back in wow classic to get a trinket called Earthstrike. It actually took me several weeks to get it and all those frustrating hours after hours, Flatlands was there to be my faithful companion. And after all these years I come back to this and the memories hit deep man. Come to think of it, Flatlands is a song about flat lands with some tornado shit rampaging through and Silithus is also a barren and flat wasteland of meanacing bugs so that's where they meet I guess. Thank you Brian for this one in a lifetime experience.
Thanks for the amazing people who did the sound for this.
It's unreal.

All masters of time.
Good to see musicians actually listening to what the other guys are playing and 'answering', instead of just doing their own rigid thing.
One of the more underrated aspects of Guthries playing are his bends. I mean how many tones does he bend up to at 31:18?! Incredible
Came to say this, how in the hell did his string not break?!
Brian Dennehy check out some of his lesson vids theres one vid were he goes thru his bemding technique. i think he goes up to 3 tones or w.e
he bends it to 10 tones, from high E to low E, holding all of them strings out of the fret board
A full octave is 6 tones, not 10
Hence the name I guess ... like the number of legs on an octopus
The sound on this is some of the best I've ever heard. That room sounds phenomenal. So intimate.
