Simple steps in really owning, your car is to take control over things. Watching videos of other people doing repairs/maintenance is the first sub-step to that. There's no rocket science in keeping your car upright, only dedication to the investment you made (at its most core value).

ChrisFix real quick I had an idea for a video if you don’t have a video idea or if you’re waiting on parts. There are a lot of car guys and non-car guys who watch your channel and not all may know what every part of a car does. Maybe for a video series you go over parts of the car and explain what they do but focus on certain areas per video like one for the engine, one for trans, one for drivetrain, etc.
This is the most I ever enjoyed a car repair video. Lovely to see someone who is so into their work. Really enthusiastic, but still patient and careful.
THE BEST PART: we brought a car back from the dead. ABSOLUTELY. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the prettiest cars I've ever owned were the ones I saved from the junkyard. Pre-UA-cam, pre-eBay, and pre-internet, information like this was much harder to find. I hope that ChrisFix is developing the next generation of hobbyist car guys and gals.
If you wanted to make the leather seats look really really nice again, just throw a bit of warm water on them and use a hair dryer to slowly evaporate the water. The leather will shrink back to close to original, and doing this is SUPER cheap for a really nice outcome

Hello Chris, i have been watching your videos for many years now and i like every one of them. I have retired (in 2012) and moved from Chicago, Ill and i now live in Guatemala, C.A. I am presently nearing 75 years of age and I myself have worked a lot on cars and i still love it as well, you have great videos and i especiallly love the great enthusiasm and love that you show when you work on cars, that is certainly something worth viewing! Thanks friend!
One of my favorite Chris Fix videos. I liked seeing him tackle the diagnosis and then the repair. In this case he determine 2 electrical components were not working, this led him to check the fuses as that could effect two things at once. Found bad fuse. Replace. It’s starts. Then looking under, you can see an obvious bad muffler left unfixed caused the fuel tank and evaporate issues. Great logical fix here. Plus I have been a Craftsman tool fan for 30 years.
This is a $2000 car on OfferUp in Ohio not running xD now chrisfix made it a $4000 "fresh trade in" at a buy here pay here place.. boy we have it bad here
In Wa I've bought two rigs in "running condition" both have electrical issues but boy do I love my 86 chevy astro van with a bored out 4.3L and anything autozone could throw at it except seats for less than 1200$ total for a "race and tow" rig and it will do 92.1mph in third of four gears but what blows my mind is the transmission is both an automatic and a manual with clutch plates

@@chrisfix My family had to replace a gas tank on their truck which is similar to chevy trailblazer. A gmc envoy. The gas tank had a major crack in it which was cause by rust. Our mechanic told us new one is worth more than 800 dollars, and use one is worth anywhere from 100-700 dollars. A week later they called a and told us that it also needed a new fuel filter besides the tank and the pump. My family had to pay $900 dollars. But on the way from the shop while he was at a stop about 15 mins from my house thank check engine came on. My dad told my mom it and my mom called the shop back and my dad took it back up 4 days later. They told us that they a senser that is connected to the newish gas tank is bad and they forgot to check it before they gave our car back. They fix it. They didn't even charge us anything becuase it was part of the work they did. Plus when we were there real reason why it cause 900 dollars was because we had them change our oil as well.
theory816 .exhaust wasn’t melted. Gas tank was melted. Exhaust was destroyed. But that wasn’t the reason why the car wouldn’t start. Unless you were commenting on another video.
Hi Chris, electrical speicalist here. Checking for blown fuses in this manner is dangerous. If an electrical problem with the car may have caused the fuses to blow, this electrical problem may still be present even with the keys turned to the off position. Checking like you are doing using the resistance setting on your multimeter is remaking the broken fuse, through your multimeter. If the short is still present, you will now be putting that short current through your meter which could break it. Furthermore, if you were testing a small amperage fuse in this manner, the multimeter may well be able to take more current than the fuse you are testing, causing an excess short current to flow through your vehicle. I recommend testing like this with the battery removed only, or better yet, just remove the fuses one by one for a visual inspecion, they make them see through for a reason!
Matthew Edwards I double down on this. I’m not an electrical specialist but even I know the basic rule that my father taught me years ago: if you’re working with some kind of electricity in your car, at least care to take off the negative terminal of the battery.
Outstanding video! Just bought 1986 Lincoln Town Car, has not started for 15 years, 52,000 one owner miles dusty in garage. Gotta pull out with tow chain and get started. Cannot wait!
"This is an aspen tree, you can tell it's an aspen because of the way it is" but yes. Chris fix can make an hour long video about how engines work and I'd watch the whole thing.
Good job for bringing that Chevy back to life. And using spare parts from the junkyard means less junk from the landfill. Thanks for making the world a better place.
@@Jet1337 true, but if he has to buy a new 1 to replace the defectives, thats 2 parts goin to waste. At least now only the defective will go to junk and he salvage the ones' that can still be used. That's one less junk to the landfill.
Chris, I have followed you from the very beginning. Then I lived in the US, now I am back home in the UK. I am a car guy that is older than your dad. I am so pleased to see your hard work pay off. Good luck to you. So in this example the guys exhaust rusted out, he ignored it, melted his fuel tank (lucky to not cause a calamtous fire) so he could not refuel, and blamed thefuel pump ... wow. What a win for you.
3:52 Did anyone notice the search results, specifically the 1st " Is it bad that i spend all of my money on cars and car parts?" and the 3rd "Why is Chrisfix so handsome?"
I bought an 07 with 220 thousand miles for 650$ did brakes and put an exhaust on it and flipped it for $2200 they are easy to work on and most fixes are cheap
I know a guy who deals with tons of car selling and buying. A lot of times people would try to sell cars that didn't run for 2-3k thinking they were going to get that. He taught me all about it and basically this guy here is spot on. If your car doesn't run for any reason and you are trying to sell it, its worth scrap value which is about 4-600$ and guys thats it. it doesn't matter if you had just installed new brakes and rotors or anything else. A car that doesn't run isn't worth anything. Now, if it runs but has issues they start at 1k in value and go up from there. If this Vehicle had started, then it would probably be worth 1200-2k.
I love how excited Chris still gets doing things like this, makes my soul happy seeing him doing what he loves while taking us along for the ride so we can learn as well. One of my all time favorite UA-cam channels ever! You're the best bro, thank you.

I've been pouring over all your videos and they've been so helpful in giving me confidence that I can find a cheap car. Thanks to you I know what problems I can manage, and how I can do it without spending too much money. With that being said, would you make a video on problems a beginner should avoid? Thank you for all your hard work that goes into these videos!
The biggest things you'll want to check is oil froth on the dipstick or oil cap like Chris mentioned, and the condition of the transmission fluid looking for a foul odor or dark brown color. Those are much more involved jobs, but you can do those as well if you have the patience. Checking to make sure the frame is straight and structurally sound and hasn't had repairs done is another that can save you a headache.
It's crazy looking at this and remembering when these videos first came out, then looking at the date stamps and realizing it's two years old, and then you're like, holy crap time flies. Doesn't change how good these videos are, but shows how long it's been without even realizing it.
he got a good deal. even though he replaced the fuel pump anyways. I most likely would have replaced it also, depending on mileage and service records. I definitely offer less on a car if there's no service records. You have to then assume the vital stuff is going bad and needs replacement (like timing belt, water pump, fuel pump.. and the small stuff too, like spark plugs and wires, distributor or coil(s), thermostat, and transmission/radiator/brake fluid replacement.. it adds up if you don't do the work yourself!).
In the reflection I thought the dead cat was your hair for a second. I was like... Is Chris wearing a mad scientist wig or did the late 90s come back? 😂

@THAT Guy yeah exactly.

If I'm paying $500 for a car in the rust belt, I expect that thing to be a pothole away from breaking in half. That looks great considering the age.

Chris - That could be your new look if you're adventurous.
How are you completing the circuit?? The fuse IS blown there's no connection between the meter
@@jlatnyc the fuse connection is remade through the meter when it is set to resistance!
Agreed. I always use a test light hooked to the ground of the battery. It should light up on both sides of the fuse. If not, it's blown
