So, that stealership blew out the sunroof drain tubes and performed a pad swap, then claimed to have machined the rotors(clearly not done) and serviced the trans fluid(also no evidence of this procedure) and charged the owner for these services. That is FRAUD! After Ray changed the trans fluid, there was evidence of the fluid being spilled and witness marks on the drain plug(first ones seen). The owner has a valid case for court with the video evidence that our ever vigilant Ray has provided!

      PROOF! Dealership Ripped off Customer!
      Not so fast Ray!!!!
The dealership was literally only speaking figuratively.
Without specifying which way they were turned, the tech took the wheel off, , he literally omitted to say that he only figuratively turned each rotor by hand hand without saying not literally on the lathe while the rotors were literally still on the car .
      Secondly..,
without specifying where the metal in the trans fluid came from..., the service tech at the dealership is right in figuratively saying that the transmission fluid literally do have some trace base elements of iron, cadmium, copper, magnesium, zinc etc...in it when the fluid is made
      And thirdly.....
The customer was figuratively given 30% off nothing because the dealership literally did nothing.
Ergo....., 30% of nothing is still nothing so they literally cancel each other out which makes perfect sense..., that of course is just figuratively speaking....
      All jokes aside,
I hope some day you win a lottery for being such an honest dude..

I do agree with main dealers can and often do put on extras on your bill. But if you have a relatively newish car consider that it needs updates to it's on board comp and back yard mechanics dont have access to this expensive equipment. Also remember if any damage is caused by the back yard mechanics ie blowing the comp you will probably find that only the main dealer will be able complete the repairs. This is only my personal experience from a back in the day.

I know I made a decision like this with a major tire retailer after they repaired a tire that I had that I had bought elsewhere (1 month old) that wasn't fixed by the seller and this new place did it at no cost. Three sets of tires later (and two family members switched at different outlets) and the same level of experience. I went on a trip to visit my Brother and told him about the problem. Since I wanted a oil change, he suggested I take the vehicle to his Asian mechanic and have him look at the liftgate and do the oil change.
He took a quick look at the liftgate and said he thought it just needed a adjustment. When I picked up the SUV the total bill was $105 for the synthetic oil change and a liftgate adjustment. I wish that mechanic lived near me,

Giving us techs with a little integrity a bad name across the board...being a 2015, they should have started with a tcm reprogram to update the code set logic for cvt judder. Then redrove and see if it sets any of the judder codes. P17f0, p17f1, p17f2, etc. Rarely do we start with pulling the pan to determine whether there is an issue with a cvt. There are some good TSBs on this stuff. I enjoy your videos! Keep em comin!

I had done this originally as that was required to match the amount that came out (and it seemed "right"). I was a little worried doing it the first time but quickly forgot. Turns out (from TSB) a few had been damaged by low oil on inclines. Point is, the dealership system HAS TO GO. Nissan was spot on with their TSBs, have good engineers, and D21-D22 were great trucks.

So after eighteen years in an unnamed Nissan dealership I do have some comments. Followed by twelve plus years at independents and now retired. At one point our service department had twelve ASE Nissan master techs and a total of twenty four techs. Our dealer group was purchased by a large dealer company that begins with an A and is nation wide. You have to guess who I’m referring to so we all avoid unnecessary legal issues. Anyway within a year we were down to a few master techs and a whole bunch of young kids with zero experience. I am so happy to be retired and not dealing with the industry these days. I did sell lots of Nissan CVT’s at the independent shops when they hit the 100K mileage so my guess is the dealer tech was confident in selling a pattern failure repair.

My wife, the best woman ever you'll ever meet, took her 2000 Mustang GT to a dealership because her car would stall at traffic lights if she had less than a 1/4 tank of gas, it wouldn't hold regular idle. They came back and told her they changed the no.2 injector and an ignition gem module ($600 dollars). The whole charge of $2000. She lied and told the service manager to show her on the car where these parts were so she could show me, her husband (she played the dumb blond perfectly). He opened the hood and told her the no.2 injector. She looked and saw no disturbed grime anywhere on the engine. She told the manager the no. 2 injector is 2nd back from the front on the passenger side. (she knows this because she works on her own car) He said yes it is and she pointed at it and asked how did they change the injector without disturbing any of the grime on the engine? She told him never mind lets check the $600 ignition gem module they replaced. She says that module is under the drivers side kick panel left side of the dash at the floor, right? His mouth drops open and he says yes. She reaches in and pops the cover off and looks and asks the manager to look at the module "they replaced". She says do you see that yellow grease paint on the module? He sees it and says yes. She says that grease paint was marked on there by the junkyard that I bought the module from when I replaced it myself a year ago so that's my module and it hasn't been replaced, care to explain why I'm being charged for a module that wasn't replaced? They guy just sat there staring at her with his mouth open. She told them she was taking her car and wasn't paying them for "the repair". After all that he still wanted to charge her the $50 service inspection fee. She asked him does he really want to push this?...as she collected her keys and walked out the door. I wanted her to report it to the authorities but it's so much of a hassle.

About a yr ago, I took a 2006 Trailblazer to the local Chevy dealer. A brake line failed in the 6" long section of the braided part, the rest was hard line. Took it in a was told that the brake line is no longer made and they will need to make a custom hose. Quoted over the phone, $1000 for the job( I don't remember if this was for 1 hose or both hoses, or if labor was included).
Took it home, and after about 15 minutes of searching the web, found 1 of the hoses, but the other was discontinued. So, I ordered 2 of the one that was stocked. The the other hose needed a different bend when connecting to the ABS module on the frame. Took about an hr to install. Haven't been back, used be to be my place to go for repairs, or oil changes. Not anymore. Wish I had a mechanic like you Ray around me.

Pick it up the next day and took a quick look under the hood. Sparkplugs are under a plastic cover that needs to be removed to access the plugs. Cover still covered in dust, no fingerprints, nothing. Had a little chat with the service manager and asked him how it was possible to change the plugs without touching the cover. Oh, sorry sir, we forgot to do the plug change but billed you for it anyway. They made me good finally. I was a auto mechanic in a previous life so knew what to look for. This is one of the biggest reasons I love this channel. My wife's Buick Enclave, we continued to have the dealership service it. They give you their all-points inspection documentation to show what all they 'checked.' My wife comes to me telling me the steering is sticking and getting really hard to turn on tight turns. Take it out for a test drive; and what do you know sticking.. hard to turn etc.
I take a look at the power steering fluid and oh look, it's low, like REALLY low. Topped it off, issue went away.
Now I save all those reports. I went back a year and double-checked and each one showed that it was checked and in good working order including the one we had a few months prior.
There's NO WAY they were checking it with it as low as I found it, and I found no evidence of leaking.
AS you can guess, my wife has asked that I take over general maintenance again... yay me :)

I had a transmission shop (not a dealer) tell me that I needed to replace my transmission as they said that there was metal in the fluid. I was complaining that my dodge ram shifted hard.
I took my truck to another transmission and repair shop for a second opinion. The second shop said you might need a new transmission as there is some metal but not enough to be concerned yet, so lets just service the transmission with new fluid etc. and drive it for a month. Then bring the truck back for another transmission service and we will check again if there is more metal or not.
So I serviced the transmission, brought it back in about a month and all was good. No new transmission needed. Continued driving that truck for another 10 years with no hard shifting or any transmission trouble.
Just shows that so.e just want the big profit jobs and not put the customer first.

I worked at Aamco transmissions when I was 16 years old, cleaning up their shop, after school. Transmissions of that era would have a little bit of minor debris in the transmission pan, which was totally normal at that time. Management would laugh about ripping off the public, claiming they needed a transmission rebuild. They would actually pull the pan, and show it to the customer.

As someone who works at an auto parts supplier in Canada with a fleet of Nissan Versa Note's I am very familiar with the Nissan CVT transmission. We are an extreme use case as our fleet of 80 vehicles is constantly in use, and our climate is very extreme. We have had to replace 6 CVT transmission total due to various failures usually around 175,000 miles (280,000 kilometers). One of our stores had one of their cars at their local Nissan "stealership" for warranty recall work, the store manager had requested that they do a transmission flush and they refused to do the work. We have a strict service schedule and flush them at least every 50,000 miles (80,000 kilometers). They wanted us to replace the transmission. We drove the car 100 miles (160 kilometers) back to our main warehouse and sent the car to the small local shop that we deal with to look over the car. They performed the service on the car, which included replacing the internal filter that no one except for this shop is aware that is installed in these CVT's. The biggest issue that we came across with that car was that the transmission cooler in the radiator was plugged up to the point that we had to replace the radiator and a few other items, but the CVT is still functioning perfectly. That situation has resulted in us looking at bringing all of the cars to this independent shop just to make sure that the transmissions are serviced properly.
TLDR: We have a fleet and Nissan tried to replace the transmission when it wasn't needed. The car had a plugged cooler that was causing the intermittent transmission issue.
My service recommendation for every CVT owner needs to get the transmission flushed every 80,000 miles (130,000 kilometers), and Nissan customers should find a shop that will replace the internal filter.

If your fluid change interval is every 50,000 miles you should drop the pan and replace the transmission filter. The filter change is just as important as the fluid change. The filter prevents fine metal debris from entering the tight tolerance spool values in the valve body. Make sure to use an OEM filter if available.

This is why I do not like taking a car to a dealership for work. My daughter mistakenly took her car to a Nissan dealership for an inspection. They failed it and wrote up a large laundry list of items that needed repair. The quote was more than twice the value of the car. Then they tried to sell her a new car. They even said that it could not be driven and needed to be towed. They said the rear wheels were locked up. The tow was covered by our insurance so that was not an issue. When I heard this I called BS and could see myself that it did not need all that work. The rear wheels were not locked up when it arrived back home. I took it to my regular mechanic and he was able to fix it up for a fraction of what was quoted. We were not happy with this dealership.
A trusted independent mechanic is someone who should be valued for their time, knowledge and honesty. Good work Ray.

On the Jatco transmission you need to change the oil fluid at 35k miles the first time, and every 25k after that. There is a cooler cartridge filter and a pan filter. Never use anything other than Nissan NS3 oil. ( older ones NS2)After market oil may ruin your CVT. Never use it. The CVT OIL in the video is screaming for a fluid and filter change. I service these transmissions on a regular basis. I have seen all the ends and outs of what you can do wrong. Main killer is not changing the fluid regularly, or not using genuine Nissan CVT fluid and filters. A lot of times the Nissan shops, Don’t change the cooler filter which leads to fluid blockage and death of your transmission. ( you absolutely have to change the cooler filter Ray! ) there is no silicone on the gasket. It is a regular black rubber gasket. You refill that tranny with 5 qts fluid and run it to 210f than pull the overflow bolt until it truckles out and reinstall to get it to the correct fill level. Some of the other types have a tube on the drain bolt that gives you the level. Note its not able to drain on those type. You have to pull the pan to get to the fluid on those. Mainly those are on the Nissan Versa.

last job before the USAF was at a Dodge dealer in Colorado. After I got back from my first deployment I went back home and took my truck, a 2000 Dodge Dakota 4.7L to the shop for road trip services. Tech who used to be my friend quoted me for an air filter, front and rear pads and rotors, trans service, and new plugs and wires, and a few other things totalling almost $1000. Well lemme tell ya. I'd just done my own trans service before the deployment. New filter and everything brand new so truck drove for a week then sat for 5 months. Not exactly extreme. Truck has rear drum brakes, and I'd also just replaced the pads same time I did trans service. And the coup de grace: the 4.7L V-8 has 8 ignition coils. No distributor. No plug wires. Oh and guess what else I'd recently replaced. Yup. Upgraded my plugs a year prior, and...oh..I forgot to mention...replaced my full intake system with a K&N. You don't replace that filter, and I had cleaned and re-oiled it when I started the road trip. Still bright red! I happened to be in the manager's office catching up when the writer brought me the bill. I pointed out the issues, and the manager told me I could just leave. No charge. Heard from another buddy of mine there that my former friend got fired over it, and I wasn't the only one he had been caught scamming. Ran into that tech at the mall a few years later, and he got in my face in front of his family for lying and getting him fired. So his family got to hear me re-tell the whole story again, and wife did not believe him AT ALL!! I guess if he'd lie to me, a former friend who worked at the same dang dealership with him, I'm not the first person close or closer to him that he'd lie to. He's divorced now too. Good riddance.

I went to look. It was BLACK! I asked if that could happen within 15 months of being changed. The Tech and Service Mgr said no way. I asked Mgr to check the service records for Jan. 2022. He said, "Hmm. We changed that fluid." I said it looks like the job was never done. They did a "complimentary" brake fluid change after repairing the ruptured brake line. sure, you're not factoring in the labour and the fact that you used cheaper parts than they were quoting you too. "they quoted 900" but they quoted you OE brakes and you got chinese shit and think its the same

I got screwed over by my local GMC dealership once and caught them too. I brought in my 2011 Sonic that was leaking break fluid in the rear lines and you can see it leaking standing next to the car. They called me said the car was ready for pick up and everything was repaired under warranty. Picked up car & break lines still leaking. Obvious they didn;t look at them. But the work oder did reflect it was done. I made GM aware of the huge liability they caused and I was getting a lawyer! GM paid me and fixed the issue!!
GM stands for Giant Mistake. I went back to Toyota thank God!!!

Amen brother, Ford is just as bad, I bought a new F-150 about ten years ago, the transfer case went out, then the transmission, I didn't get the extended warranty so I had to barrow a ride till they got it repaired, which it never worked right again, never buy another Ford👎

Giant mistake? You stated "GM paid me and fixed the issue" meaning though it was not GM's (corp) fault but instead a dealerships shop and made it good, yet you speak ill of GM when it was in fact the fault of the shop you went to.

@@rogerhancock8732 Every Giant Mistake shop is a franchise under GM liscence in Canada. When I contascted corporate HQ about the issue at the dealership where I purchased the car they gave me several thousand $$ credit toward any vehicle I wanted and had the issued rectified at another dealership. Glad I went back to Toyota!

Happened to a customer of ours once. Garage in the North East of Scotland, newish Nissan Qashqai came in with timing chain rattle. Customer stated that the car "Just got fully serviced at the dealer to maintain the warranty" but the engine oil came out black as tar when we had a look. We bottled it up and gave it to her to take to the dealer, never heard from her since. Theres something about nissan dealers...

Not just Nissan....I bought a used Lexus Hybrid....asked the dealer for a trans fluid change....oh, its a sealed unit....posted that on a Lexus forum....someone sent me a PDF of the trans....oh, look....a drain and fill plug!!! They are all lying bastards and intentionally lying to your customer about what is likely the second most expensive purchase they will ever make should be a criminal act punishable by law.....

Take it from a retired brake specialist. No way in hades were the discs machined. Shame on the dealer!

In this day and age, NO ONE really bothers to turn rotors anymore. (Edit: applies on recent cars and trucks. The older stuff was made to be machined. The newer stuff is more or less disposable) Rotors are very inexpensive and a quick replacement. It's only a matter of time before she starts to get scrap noises from the pad's rubbing into the rust ridges.
      Very sad....

I agree. I use to have a rotor turning machine. I don’t have it anymore. 99% of the rotors are too thin to turn now. Not worth the safety risk. I have seen rotors crack from being turned just once.
