Crazy, makes me wanna pull my engine and work on it 😂
It’s very fun man
Thanks for your video, you made it look easy, I have a 2003 Honda Element and it's having problems with the head gasket but my mechanic says it's better to wait for the car to die itself, but I think I'll be brave and fix it myself because it's also way cheaper 😄👍🏽
“As you guys can see”
Good stuff my guy!
I can’t help but laugh when you said “HOLY SHIT” trying to remove the head bolts..
i myself I’m doing a k24/20 frank and I had the same struggle even on an engine stand🤣
Made me look like a weak ass 🤣... Foreal though, they were on there! I need an engine stand soon
@oDanii that's the same setup I want to go with the k24/20 Frank. Unfortunately unlike you guys I have no idea how to take apart engines nor do I have the tools or space. I'm going to spend a grip just in labor 😩
YoungReezyVA the biggest issue is def space if you dont have it. cherry pickers and engine stands can be folded up or taken apart for storage when you dont need them... but man my dad is pissed he wants his single garage back and wont let me work on the driveway so no pulling motors for me
@@YoungReezyVA 🤣
@@BenM 🤣
Man I have to get the head gasket of my accord replaced, your video made it seem simple and easy to follow, only issue is I don’t have a way to pull the engine out the bay
You can’t do the head gasket while it’s still in the car?
Thanks man, you helped me did my first headgasket by myself...what a beeech those headbolts were. Thanks gerb.
Glad I could help out. They really were on there tight
Very informative video, I just bought my own k24a and am going to go k24/20 so this video is perfect for me
Good job! Nice video, not a lot of unnecessary yapping, straight to the point. Thank you!
Glad you liked it man
@@TheGerbsteve yes sir, thank you.
I am thinking of doing the head gasket on my 2010 CR-V, it has 160 k miles, do you think I have to replace the timing chain or I can reuse the old one? TIA for your reply.
Looks great! Can’t wait till it’s finished!
Thanks man. I can wait either 🙏🏼
Thank you bro, just picked up a cylinder head from the Upull, didn’t have the harmonic balancer thing to get the crank pully off but just used a cherry picker to remove the timing Chain LMAO
Hey, good job documenting a great tear down on the k24 ! I can see even after the go pro battery die you use your phone for the end !!
#Goodjob
#solidContent
Must be so much fun! Great job dude! Good info, learned a lot 😁👍🏻
It is, but can get scary at times haha... Appreciate you. I have more coming for ya soon
Not taking the head off of my K24 until my K20z3 head is built. Which will take a while. But you're making good progress! Keep wrenchin'!
That’s most likely going to be my plan as well! Gonna keep the k20 head, cams, and valvetrain for sure as a back up. I’ll rebuild it down the road 😎. Appreciate you man! Never Stop Wrenching 🔧
@@TheGerbsteve I bought a Engine Stand from Harbor Freight .. and with the coupons they always send out I spent less than $40 for it. Worth every penny so far! I can tuck the motor in a corner and still able to park the Traverse next to the Si in the 2 car garage.
I just got a harbor freight flyer in the mail with a 20% off coupon 🤘🏼... I’m going to use that towards the engine hoist
@@TheGerbsteve nice bro! Can't wait for more content!!
@@TheGerbsteve The K20a2 head will fit jdm k24a?
No joke I watched this video 25times
🤙🏼🤙🏼
Cylinder walls look good my dude
Thought the same. With a bit of elbow grease, fresh oil, bolts, and gaskets, she’ll be ready to rock 🤘🏼
This was a bad idea to look at this video for fun AFTER a timing chain job
Exorbitantly extremely helpful. Thank you!
love watching guys like u put in real work with garbage cans for table space . Also do that. :))
Looks good Gerb! Keep up the Great Work!
Gracias Amigaso
Thanks.beautiful.job
Gerb is doin some serious wrenching! Git it bruh!
Having a blast doing so 🔧💪🏼
Loved the video awesome 👏 man I have to give it you much respect for doing all this by yourself thats badass I just can’t wait for your reaction on your first drive 😂 💯🔥👌🏾
Thanks a ton man! I just dive in.. At times it's scary, but sometimes you have to take your time and research. Confidence at the end of the day is all you need. I appreciate all your continuous support. I am going to document it for sure, I'm ecstatic ;)
Awesome
Hell yeah im so hyped !! Can’t wait till I go k24
Can’t wait to feel the tq 😉
Gerb Productions hey I recently got the NST pulley kit for my fg2 so I wondering how where you got that tool to pull off the crank pulley, I know you mentioned you guys had to customize it a little bit I’m just talking about the tool itself?
My buddy is an engineer, so he made it haha. They have tools you can rent though at auto zone and parts stores. You will need two breaker bars
Gerb Productions one to hold the crank and one to loosen the bolt ? Why 2 breakers bars bro ?
One to hold crank bolt and one to hold harmonic balancer 👍🏼
I did 248hp bone stoke K24a with skunk2 center feed 90mm tb 3” exhaust e85
That’s wild! Car must pull amazing 💪🏼
@@TheGerbsteve it did but i want more power tbo lol i bought a k20 head with supertech drivetrain , skunk2 stage 3 cams type s oilpump & going to do driect port nitrous , hopefully this week i get it done
Thanks for the zip ties trick 🤣 it was awesome.
Just got my k24 can't wait to start tearing it apart I have to do a head gasket as well
Can you just hit the head studs with impact on removing
Keep making the videos G
Hello and thank you ! at 14:03 - 14:05 what is the triangle shaped catchment located on the top left part of the cylinder head. It has a hole on it's front wall. My best guess is that it is there to collect seepage of some sort; maybe oil or coolant that gets past the head gasket. Thanks and I appreciate any response.
Engine looks in great shape.. Cylinder walls look good, the head looks good... You got a good motor. Gunk is normal for a JDM motor thats been sitting, but otherwise, that motor is fresh. And that's usually what you get when you get a Minivan motor from Japan with 50K miles on it lol.. I have yet to see any of my friends get a bad JDM K24A out of an Absolute. And mine is up and running like a champ!
I thought the same. I was thinking the minivan wouldn’t really have gotten romped on much with kids in the car lol. How many of your buddies run the k24a absolutes? What’s done to yours?
@@TheGerbsteve .. Literally ALL of my friends who have done K24 swaps have gone with the Absolute version. And that is about 7 of them. This is for 2 reasons.. 1, like you stated, its from a minivan so less wear and tear and beating, and Secondly, they are the Non-EGR version of the K24 and tehy make slightly more torque. So it's a win-win there.. Also, ther is a 3rd reason, and that is JDM K24's are cheap compared to the USDM variant which can go for $1000+ for a decent, lower-mileage one... Im personally running a stock motor at the moment with custom 40 degree VTC gear, and RBC manifold, Type S oil pump, K-tuned Swivel Thermostat Housing for easier time dealing with radiator, heater, and oil cooler retention. Have Toda Race Header I got used, to custom 3 inch exhaust. Got the piping from TruBendz and went with Vibrant 3-inch Muffler and Ultra Silent resonator. Sounds amazing and not too loud. The car will be boosted soon, which Ill be running a 45* VTC gear. I went with the gt3071r Turbo which is great for early spool and a good powerband. In process of assembling the rest of the Turbo setup now.
That’s crazy, all 7 haha... Absolute seems like where it’s at! They do, they make 171 tq vs usdm tsx 164-166tq. I saved myself about $200 or more on a jdm engine vs the usdm k24a2, which I was happy about. Sounds sick man! I’m going to get 50 degree vtc and just set it electronically to 40 degrees in flashpro. Thought about a pinned 40 or 45 too. Let me ask you this.. I was considering running my stock oil pump. Think I’ll be able to rev to 8k with no issues 🤔... What is your rev limiter set at or are any of your buddies running stock pump? If so, what’s their rev limiter?
That would explain why hondatas reflash for 04-05 tsx k24a2 rev limiter is set for 7600 max 👍🏼... I’ve heard that the torque drops significantly on the k24’s after 7k rpms. Every set up is different though. And I agree... coming from a k20, you’re used to that 8k + all day haha. But like stated, you’re revving the hell out of k20’s because that’s where their power band is. See, lower power for me I feel like I’d like it better. I never get the chance to rev out my k20 really. I honestly can’t wait to drive it when everything is all done. Makes sense though, I’ve heard the same on upgrading internals for rev ability. I think I will be happy with 7600-7800 rpm just to be on the safe side. I’ve heard two guys running their 04-05 k24a2’s with stock internals and pump to 8k rpms for a year or two with no issues. It’s risky though. Totally different power band. Guess I’ll have to wait and see. Do you think the jdm k24a pulls harder than the k20z3? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Even though k20 doesn’t have torque, it has the vtc for tuning purposes > k24.
your engine very clean . not like my engine sir. when i disassemble my engine because rod knock. it look very dark and many sludge. it took long time to me clean that sludge. i clean it and put new rod bearing and main bearing. keep posted sir. like you said never stop wrenching. sorry fo my poor english. 😁
I think I made some mistake ..pain in the butt only way u learn my 1crv Honda head gasket blown.still at it day 3 😅
Niceeeeee
Mucho bueno 👍 😌
Good video thanks mane🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Good work bro 👍

I wish they would upfront straight away say diesel or petrol wouldn’t that make life a bit easier eh?
Hi hope you’re doing great .
I’m having an issue on my car my timing chain broke so I replace it but when I turn in on I can hear a clicking noise would this be this cylinder head ? If so is if necessary to take out the engine to replace this head ? Thank you . 2004 Honda crv same engine
Might have to do this since I broke a plug in the cylinder
any tips for somneone who doesnt have a HONDA balancer removal tool?
good work man that was impressive how you removed the engine head Studs are you doing just maintenance or head work
It was a pain in the balls, but I got it done haha ✅... I’m just doing maintenance man.. New k24 head gasket, new vtc cam gear, new seals, new k24 timing kit +guides, intake/exhaust gaskets...
I would take a picture every bolt I remove and where is that part going to be :)
Nice video, Gerb.
It seems the pistons have been hitting the valves... Or is that just how the pistons were made?
Helps to have cushion for the pushin on those head studs
Next time you can lose the came caps and take rocker assembly and came together. You won't need to zip tie
Can’t wait to start taking my engine apart. Are you using a external mic in your Gopro?
Just GoPro mic. How’s the sound quality?
Sounds dam good. My hero 6 sounded like crap handheld. To much noise when moving the camera. I decided to buy external mic adapter and a mic and it’s a night/ day difference.
I thought the same! I was considering buying an external mic, etc, but I don’t think it’s necessary for 7 🤘🏼
The small Allen head bolt on The front left side of the head .dose that need to be removed to get the lower cam plate loose?
What is the exhaust camshaft pulley torque on a 2007 Honda CRV?
The cam caps just need both hands on either side and gently wiggle while pulling up. You don't wanna mess that surface up if you're re-using it. 🤙
Does anyone know what that gasket is that sits inbetween the block and the oil pan? Its not the oil pan gasket but the one above the oil pan cuz I think my Accord is leaking oil from there, thanks
Throw some new pistons!
🔥🔥
please put the 50° vtc gear in or you will regret it. since its apart. i have a k24a in my 09 with the rbb2 head. Especially if you plan on using an RBC manifold.
Rbc mani, 50 degree vtc, bolt ons, and tune are the plan man 🤘🏼
i bought this car with the k24a in it. i thought i was buying a k20 car. love the torque but hate the 7.5k rev limit.im hoping with a 3.5 intake, rdx injectors and the j37 throttle body im adding it makes it a blast to drive.
Your rev limiter is set to 7500? I’ve heard people revving out to 7800-8k rpms max with stock pump. Thinking I may rev mine to 8k, stock pump 🤙🏼.You will get a nice bump in torque and power with those mods
Which head gasket kit did you buy?
Where did you get these parts from? Please
OK so i Have a 2008 civic Si and i believe i may have a bad throttle body but im not 100% sure. every time i push in the clutch my RPMs drop. sometimes it stalls, most times it doesnt.and it also makes a knocking noise which i assume is a misfire in the engine. does this ound correct? i change the MAF sensor to see if that helped but no luck. i really need help with this one
Exactly of what I'm doing on my Honda accord k 24 engine..
Are you gonna use the k20 head? Or just run the whole k24 in it? Cause my block z3 is cracked and I need suggestions.
If you don't want to spend money or time just throw the whole k24 in the car but where the problem comes is the header clearance, you might want to spend your money there! Unless you bash your firewall in. Someone on UA-cam used a k24a2 with at k20z3 stock parts including airbox header and exhaust without revving it high as the z3 motor
@@thegreatgabe5980 yeah I don't wanna spend a whole lot of money just need the car going again. If I use the stock k20 head would their be a better fitment for the headers and would I need a different ecu as well?
@@johnmoua9609 No the fitment would be the same as if you were using a straight k24 long block, you can use the stock parts but swap over your sensors so you can use the same ecu, you can use the same ecu as long as you keep it under the stock redline for that engine, so for a tsx engine look up the redline and keep it under that number to be safe.
@@thegreatgabe5980 thanks man much needed this.
K20 head is going to get rebuilt on the side, so I’ll be running full k24 longblock. I thought about utilizing the k20 head, but I want to rebuild it since it’s close to 200k miles...
@Gerb production my si is about to blow and i look to do a k24 swap .. i Will like to know which k24 is the best to make the more power k24a or a k24 fron a tsx? Tank you
Sorry to hear the news man. The two best candidates would be the usdm k24a2 or jdm k24a. 04/05 jdm k24’s make 197hp/171tq. The jdm k24a also makes more torque than the 04-05 tsx, but both are basically similar. Now, the 06-08 tsx k24a2 makes a bit more HP (205), but less tq (164tq). The 06+ also comes paired with a more aggressive intake camshaft vs the earlier years, bigger valves, and upgraded internals. Keep in mind, you’ll be paying $$$ for tsx k24a2’s, while you can get a jdm k24a cheaper. My vote goes to jdm k24
Gerb Productions cool tank you a lot i love your vidéo So much
Means a lot man 💯🙏🏼
Gerb I got a few questions about the flash pro for 8th gen civic si
Shoot me some questions.
So all I got dont to mine is a megan racing header and the full invidia n1 exhaust and a cold air intake I thought about investing in flash pro but dont want to waste my money can I do much with it with just those bolt ons?
In my opinion, hondata will benefit you and your car with all those mods. You can get better mpgs and performance for sure. If you want your car to perform at its highest potential, I would advise you to grab it. It is worth the $700
Ok my other question is if I buy a skunk 2 intake manifold and no hondata will my car run like bad or could it run better and also can I use the hondata myself or is there stuff that I mess with could screw my engine up
?
What website you use to get all of these information?
I’m all over the place haha. I like hondata sites/forums, Honda jazz, and just random performance forums... not like everyone’s opinions, but actual dyno graphs, mods comparisons, etc. all the info is out there, just have to find it. I also learned a thing or two when I started working on my 01 d17 es2.
Feel like this is watching a caveman doing this one word Milwaukee

4 Piston head work
Or a kmod stage 1 or 2 k24... that’ll be I’m the future 😎
In*****
need some stage 4 prayoonto cams
I’d honestly be happy with some stage 1’s 💪🏼
@@TheGerbsteve well let me tell you. There might not even be really a point of swapping in just stage 1. I would get the better k24 cams.
True, true. That’s why I’m not going to throw all my eggs in one basket with this k24. My heart is set on a usdm k24a2, 2007 preferably. The 06-08 k24a2’s make the best power, have refined intake cams, bigger valves, and beefier block. If this one blows, I’ll grab a usdm k24a2 😎
Put some new rod bearings in
Thought about it, but since it has such low mileage.... Idk
I’m wonder how long your car will last with those fake honda parts from china
This comment aged well 3 years later he still driving it.
