I broke 2 breaker bars (from O'Reillys) trying to get mine off once. Had to get a 4' breaker bar and a 10' tube to break mine loose and i thought I broke everything on the engine and in me when it came loose
Assuming dude is 160 lbs, *12 feet, he applied 1920-2000 lbs of break away torque. Weighted impact multiplies sockets can multiply torque output by 50 percent. Giving that Milwaukee just enough juice to do it.

I used to drive 215 miles round trip from work and it runs like a champ.. I hope to give it to my niece as her first car when the time comes
Sir thank you for showing the process. I've seen channels that don't record the pain. I know it was edited for time, but it's OK because you showed enough to help us.
We have a 2007 Acura tsx and it has 150,000 miles and it runs like a top. You just help me to make up my mind and keep it. Great video looking forward to seeing your 1000 hp beast. Have fun!!!
Wow, that bolt was a pain and it wasn't rusty. Rusty bolts and nuts are the bane of my existence. The K-series is an awesome engine the one in my 2004 CR-V has served me well. I do have a slight leak around aware that pulley was giving you grief, the V-Tec solenoid failed, bad anti-knock sensor and one of the spark plug tubes has a slight leak. But even during the polar vortex (-30F°) we had this winter ( I think that's what maybe killed the V-tec solenoid) It never let me down. No major failures. This is a great engine to build up.
I'm at just under 240k on a K24 Accord/5spd manual, never been open. The serpentine belt just got replaced, but that is on the outside. Original clutch. Just maintained (brake fluid/coolant/trans fluid every 2 yrs with Honda stuff, Mobil 1/Honda filter when the light comes on.
If you haven't replaced the timing chain tensioner yet, you're driving a ticking bomb. If you EVER hear an odd rattle/chattering noise during a cold start or after the car has sat a bit, it's the tensioner failing. The noise will only last a half to one second, and once the engine has built oil pressure you can't turn it off/back on immediately to hear it again. It won't fail while the car is running, you're fine because the tensioner is using oil pressure while the engine runs; however after it's sat long enough for the oil pressure to bleed out the only thing keep tension is the spring and ratchet mechanism. At 240K, and never replaced, it's guaranteed to have extremely worn ratchet teeth and a weak spring. I have a 2006 TSX 6MT and was having the chattering noise during cold starts for a month or so, kept driving. I drove from work to a dealership to have my new tires installed, parked the car in the service lane, gave them my keys, and waited. About 20 minutes later a bay was free so they could do my tires. They couldn't get it to start. Being a certified mechanic myself, I personally checked for fuel pressure, spark, and compression (after riding to AutoZone with in my wife's car to borrow a compression tester) in the lot before doing anything else. Surprise, no cylinder pressure. I'd jumped time due to the worn ratchet/weak spring and the car had sat long enough for oil pressure to bleed out of the system. I simply dropped another K24A2 into the car in my driveway one afternoon, but had to pull the engine/6spd/wiring harness as one unit for simplicity. Not hard, but not fun nor cheap. If you haven't replaced it or are unsure when it was, at 240K you're due anyhow. Don't wait.
I just bought a 13 accord with this motor and it’s awesome, just an intake and exhaust makes this thing scary fast in vtec. This motor is happy, it’s like your little buddy that just wants to go
I have a 2004 Honda Accord with 245,000 miles that engine gives no problems. The VTEC solenoid is leaking so it doesn’t want to hit VTEC, but when the car really wants to race it does lol. I love it.
Man vs. Bolt -- The Eternal Battle. I had a bolt like that on my 1990 Acura Legend's alternator. 165K miles on the original alternator. When I went to take the main bolt out nothing would move it. Finally used a 6' pole and just about hung off of it and when it snapped the sound resonated throughout the engine and my cranium like a tuning fork for about 30 seconds. I was sure I snapped the head off but it was still in one piece. My sense of relief is hard to put into words even all these years later.
Amazing how you can take all parts off and remember where which parts goes back on. I guess u have to be good at doing puzzles. I really enjoyed the video. : )
386k miles on mine. Not kilometers. The folks drove it almost a year without raising the hood. The 5th time with no oil, brought it to the side of the road ! I put 5 quarts in, and chugged it home. I had the same issue with one of my rides, what worked for me and it was very easy didnt need a breaker bar. Some blaster oil or penetration oil, and an old timer told me to take a sledge hammer and hit the head of the crank bolt towards the crank real hard like 5 times. I did this and the crank bolt came right out with a battery powered impact. No matter what i tried it wouldnt come loose and i did not have the room you did to use a 12 foot pole lol.

I bought a new 2004 Honda Element and it’s original k24a lasted 312,400 and I threw another one with 88,000 on it in and drove until odo read 496,734 miles. Thousands of idle hours as well. Sold it last month to my dad. He’s running around in it still and it’s over 497,000 now. It was a heck of a dependable vehicle. I’m hoping that my 19 Toyota 4Runner’s 4.0 v6 1GR-FE goes over 300k as well. I have always changed the oil at 5k and used Mobil 1.
Bro 180k aint nothing my 04 tsx has 380k stock oem everything no rebuilt nothing only 3 air compressor replaced and normal maintenance also this k24 are a beast and fast love it Japanese made cars
I bought a 6 speed manual 2004 TSX with a 313,000 she was defiantly sick. So I finished her off. And am rebuilding a turbo TSX. Only $1000. But if I wasn’t mean too the car could have driven it for a long time. just wouldn’t rev above 6,000 RPMs
One time i was replacing my front main seal on my rsx type s. Went to buy big breaker bar and extension from oreilly and started twisting the extension. Grabbed my milwaukee impact and my propane torch, heated up the bolt for a good minute, hit it a couple times back and forth then it finally came loose like nothing. Heat seems to do the trick!
Impact sockets aren’t as heavy as a weighted socket, which are impact rated btw. They’re often just a really thick impact socket, or In case of Ingersoll and Rand weighted sockets, it’s an impact socket with a weight attached to the socket, near the bottom, where it connects to the impact wrench itself.
Use a crank socket ! It’s a solid socket , when I was working at a Honda dealer that was a such a life saver ! Get it from snap on I did and it works every time ! ONLY USE SOCKET TO TAKE OFF DONT USE TO PUT IT ON , IT WILL SNAP THE CRANK BOLT !
Dude I had the exact same, possibly even worse stubbornly tight crank bolt on my '00 S2000!! My friend and I struggled to remove it. The freeze trick didn't even work. Even the Milwaukee Fuel gun with Lisle impact socket failed (it had an adapter from 3/4 to 1/2" so that could have been a handicap). Eventually a 1" breaker bar and long extension with a big guy pulling on it cracked it loose - at my friendly Honda dealer :)
LOL I had the SAME issue with my K24 and that ridiculous crank bolt. I had 3 guys help me with it and it STILL didn't budge, heat didn't do anything and neither did an impact. What finally did it was a special 19mm thick wall socket, LISLE 77080, seriously took 2 seconds once I had that tool on there.
Great video, I knew the K24 was good but didnt know it was THAT good, mines the accord euro type S with remap, it doesnt feel like a 2.4 n/a...more like a 3.0, love it
wow incredible amount of torque employed to remove crank bolt, never seen anything like it, good on you for getting it off! My son has a 2003 Accord with this engine, it was a one owner vehicle with 170,000 miles. Bought it a few months ago and noticed it's burning oil. Possibly a quart every thousand miles, he does not drive that much, so no big deal. I think these engines had problems with the oil scraper piston ring.
Man I love watching these types of quality tear downs and tbh you made it hella funny lmaoo, only thing strange is my KA24E has 300k original miles, never opened, never rebuilt but i've had to tear down into it a little bit and everything comes off smoothly like butter! Tbh I wonder why you're K24 is so difficult removing bolts and nuts
I work at a honda dealership and there is a weighted 19mm socket that one of the guys have that we use for the crank bolt, just don't try to use it to put it back on or it's really not coming back off
Jojo Ledezma i had this EXACT frustration with a 3.5 odyssey 🙄. Ordered that tool and pop pop with my Milwaukee and it was out. I laughed. Best $20 spent
Traded my CRV after 275,000 miles. That engine never failed, did not leak 1 drop of oil, never burned oil. Changed oil every 5K miles. Best engine ever
That bolt is made about as good a normal Honda engine 😂 275,000 miles on my first car which is an 04 element, no problems. It was my moms since it was new. I love it.
I drive a VW and my wife has an Acura with a K24 in it. I can’t wait until we get her the RDX and I can take the TSX and ditch the VW. That car drives so comfortably and the motor is so easy to work on - not that it’s needed a lot beyond basic maintenance. Doing a big 100k maintenance on it here soon. This car/motor has made me a Honda/Acura guy for life.
HI i;m new to your chanel and have to say THAT CRANK BOLT had me on edge of seat i thought something was going to SHATTER for sure well done buddy thanks for sharing SCOOBS UK.
@@diymike Bro, he effortlessly tears down an engine explaining every part and then meticulously puts it all back together. He's the real deal behind the wheel too.
Always break crank, balancer fasteners using a breaker bar and the starter motor bolted to block, with pinion and flywheel in place....hook to battery, toggle switch other to crank the starter.... I agree with Milwaulkee....I have all M18 drivers, impacts. But my snap on half inch drive Has over 1000 feet of torque....It removes wheel lugs off of semi tractor trailer trucks.....But I still have to change the tires by hamd😉
dam.. nices.. I like how everything u do, u give out every detail on what there's to do n what need to noe.. great info.. not alot of skip part here . here.. keep it up bro..
I managed to take off my RSX crank pulley bolt here myself here in Canada with just a 2 foot Canadian Tire breaker bar and the special pulley tool borrowed for free from Canadian Tire. I pulled up, sometimes you can get more torque pulling up and I'm only 120lbs My turbo Type-S has about 150,000kms (90,000miles)
Must be your first ever Honda crank pulley bolt removal, they been like that since forever and real Honda guys use a double thick wall 19mm impact socket and your Ingersoll Rand titanium impact is all you need and it comes off like butter
Just discovered. I own a 2003 Accord with a 350,000 mile 2.4L i-VTEC that’s never been cracked open. I bought it with only 50 miles on the odometer. Runs great and the car still looks good. Maybe get the motor rebuilt one day depending on the price.
Just so you know you probably do....they sell a big weight that goes on your impact that really makes it snap more worked for me.......other than that a 1inch drive impact for tractor trailer trucks take it off alot of places rent them out for cheap
Work at quick lube shop and I've must have serviced a thousand Honda's with this engine. Great engine, but the filter location, the bleeding filter! Easy on the CR-V, a bit annoying on the Accords, but the Element is a total slap in the face to remove the filter.

I'm laughing so hard I'm crying.
Invest in a Lisle 19mm weighted socket 💯recomded
Jojo Ledezma i had this EXACT frustration with a 3.5 odyssey 🙄. Ordered that tool and pop pop with my Milwaukee and it was out. I laughed. Best $20 spent
Traded my CRV after 275,000 miles. That engine never failed, did not leak 1 drop of oil, never burned oil. Changed oil every 5K miles. Best engine ever
That bolt is made about as good a normal Honda engine 😂 275,000 miles on my first car which is an 04 element, no problems. It was my moms since it was new. I love it.
whenever someone says my Honda has no torque, I'll show them this video! what's the torque spec for the crank bolt by the way?
DaDa啊達啦 185 nm
Regular good quality oil change.
Secret Ingredient.
Internally looks pristine.
I reckon all the dislikes comes from vw people :))
I liked it and I love my braut burner!
Bro that was crazy 12 foot pole bro! Dang man insane 😮
It was a very papadakis-esque video.
Absolutely, one of my Idols growing up, him and jeff evans are the truth.
@@diymike Bro, he effortlessly tears down an engine explaining every part and then meticulously puts it all back together. He's the real deal behind the wheel too.
I love it! Well done Mike!
Never thought I’d be thinking about buying a 12ft pole.
It will have other uses :P
Bought one. Didnt fit in car.. gets in the way ...😕
Always break crank, balancer fasteners using a breaker bar and the starter motor bolted to block, with pinion and flywheel in place....hook to battery, toggle switch other to crank the starter....
I agree with Milwaulkee....I have all M18 drivers, impacts. But my snap on half inch drive Has over 1000 feet of torque....It removes wheel lugs off of semi tractor trailer trucks.....But I still have to change the tires by hamd😉
Hands down the best feeling ever when you hear that bolt loosen👍
Lol, when I try that hard to get a bolt loose and I hear a pop, I've broken a socket.
Stop going to harbor freight
@@jeremycyrus5838 Haha, not a chance. I'll just get the tempered sockets I need
For me it would be the bolt
@@jeremycyrus5838 bro harbor freight has actually good tools
I usually heat the bolt up with a torch and then it comes off with no problem
When you do that you destroy the pulley, there is a rubber dampener in it and when you heat it up it melts and can shoot out at high rpm.
You just hitting up the boat to break loose to lock thread
You make it look easy. I'd be racking my brain over how to organize all this
lol i used to crack open crank pulley bolts with pipes 8 years ago. Those days are long gone when i bought an AIRCAT. best $150 ever spent
The inside of that engine is what you get with regular and frequent oil changes.... Forget extended intervals.
word. nothing feels better than getting your fluids changed
Totally totally agree...majority of german stuff wirh dealer servicing will have gummed up rings by 70/80,000 and turbo failure
with this engine, i’ve learned it also means it has a excessive burning oil issue.
The best 4 cylinder isn’t a 4G63? :(
Best for making easy power. But stock they are also very reliable
Yes in 1995
Far from it.
dam..
First!
E Honda Damn you!!
My first video observed for your channel and bro I'm officially set on your station for engine break downs and know-how 🤘🏾🤘🏾💯💯
Must be your first ever Honda crank pulley bolt removal, they been like that since forever and real Honda guys use a double thick wall 19mm impact socket and your Ingersoll Rand titanium impact is all you need and it comes off like butter
great video. added to my k24 playlist
torque wrenches are not meant for breaking bolts loose. IIRC
Easy on the CR-V, a bit annoying on the
Accords, but the Element is a total slap in the face to remove the filter.
What a magnificent engine design. Thanks for sharing
I cant believe that engine stand held up and its more amazing that bolt didn’t snap!!
This was informative, entertaining, and very cool. Not even a honda guy
i remember watching this about 6 months ago. figured i would watch it again. a+++
