I love the zip tie for intake valve tip!! Also count the links between the two cams to make reinstall much easier cause you always question if those marks are lined up right
Great video. I'm way overdued onthe 2006 Element my son gave me. Same symptoms, our garagist friend used an endoscope to confirm our suspicions. I can't believe that I waited almost a year before checking your disassembly procedure. Lowering the car down on its front rotors did not damage them? Well you've saved me time documenting this process. So big thank you! I would have thought it would've been way much cheaper replacing on bad valve rather than the whole head, but you know better...
Logan fixes up a awesome fox coupe, sells it. Buys a rhd Acura, sells it. Crx, sells it. Honda Element is the one he’ll end up keeping! 🤣 you sir are definitely crazy 😜
I'm doing the same thing with a 2005 CRV. I bought it for cheap I'm going to do a little fix on it and sell it and make some cash money. And then I've got a Subaru outback waiting in the wings for the same. One thing that was unexpected about the Honda CRV was a possible head gasket issue when I bought it it had a lack of power and would buck really hard if I really accelerated with any sort of speed. It was fine if I drove like an ultra grandma and accelerated from 0 to 50 and 2 and 1/2 hours. Turned out it was actually that VVT solenoid on the back of the head. I replaced that and then I cleaned the screen on the front side of the head right behind the power steering pump, change the oil and now it runs fantastic but upon initial startup in the morning I get a crap ton of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe and it smells like coolant. So I'm probably in for a head gasket
my guy - this video was not only informative, but it was also downright hilarious. Great step-by-step guide and thanks for making this just a fun video to watch.
Yooo f**ken best video man! I really didn't need it as Ive done several cylinder heads and got the manual but it's always nice having a visual and getting a second take on how another mechanic tackles big jobs like this. The water inlet/outlet on the drive side I just left bolted in and disconnected everything and pulled it with the head. Also no need to pull fuel rail just leave it in and pull it with inner intake which you may have done and I missed that. Keep the entertainment coming!
Well….. burnt valves on exhaust, did compression and leak down test, it was a smoke machine that confirmed it all for me as it was coming out of the exhaust.
Thanks for the great info. My E has 294K. Have been religious about changing oil every 4 K and only run synthetic. But I guess it is more about the gasket.
I’m definitely saving this video (and subscribing) I have to do the exact same thing, and I have no idea how to work on a K series (I’ve only done a D series lol)
I the second own of mine 2008 Honda Element purchased 2016 -24 from Mississippi moved to Texas Georgia and now North Carolina traveled Fl Pennsylvania Alabama. She needs a head gasket rubber thing but nothing major.
03 EX mine since new .. I've been under that intake manifold 2 times to replace the starter ...And I kick myself for not replacing that formed rubber hose under there while I could get to it ... 20 years old now ..for a rubber cooling system hose ..only 1 I haven't replaced .... Yet
Dude, you are my spirit animal. The more I watch, the more I think: Is this dude me. Or am I this dude? Did you steal my brain? I too, shop at harbor freight and ballin' on a BUDGET!
Thank you so much for this video. I just scored a ‘05 Element for $650 with “bad motor”. I am thinking it’s just a blown head gasket and needed this video to diy it.
You deserve way more likes bro.. I do small engine repair, lots of Honda power series and Stihl, but have an 01 8.1 chevy vortec and and 01 k20a2 rsx s which im not giving up anytime soon and am not going to pay to have someone else repair when I have tools and can read manuals. Just want to say I appreciated this video. Keep on keepin on.
Hey great video. Question though. How did u get the bottom bolt off of the motor mount lol? Like the piece that is attached to the motor. I got it all broke loose and apart, but the bolt is running into the fender well.
I have a Honda CR-V 2003 motor 2.4L I did a head gaskets and I did the torque and I did a on the crank to move it and the halfways it got stuck or a little bit more than half ways and I can't move it to tell me what can it be please??
I got snap on's new high torque compact I believe its 9050, hits like their9080 and I know, I know, but my guy gave me 100 off and I never ever have to worry about a bolt being "too tight." Because at that point its coming off one way or another.
I think I have a bad head gasket per two dif mechanics. Any chance you want to fix it for me? I’m in Franklin Tn. 14 mile south of Nashville. Learn how to fix boat engines, that’s what I want to do. Too old though. Great vid and thanks for the clip!
It sucks you can't keep it. It could be a sick little daily/sleeper. A decent little Nagasaki noisey boi combined with the manual and Awd would be a riot on the street. I'm sure you know it can be done fairly cheap if you don't mind the Chinese turbo and intercooler.
@@leesire yeah I was talking about putting a turbo on it. Those K series engines can make a good amount of power and they love boost. The k series seems to be the engine of choice for the Honda Boys these days
Never buy a 2004-2006 Toyota Sienna. Or when you do don’t take out the middle seats and fold down the rear seats. If you do, it will be the cheapest truck you ever have.
dude obv knows stuff. Not sure why it says 1st timer, I guess first k series? This guy for sure wrenches. rewatched and he clearly states first K.. That few seconds must have been in the % I missed in first watch lol in my defense i was in the middle of my own head gasket install.

that's my daily beater 280,000 miles and going strong
love the element , fully dressed ls1 fits in the back
You should check the weight limit on the door lol. 625lbs including passengers I believe.

The video is pretty much on point. My deciding factor to subscribe was the joke about dropping a deuce at the airport with a go pro lol.
Me too 🤣

So curious how long did the entire job take you outside of waiting for parts, and did you managed to save it ?
The way he yells, just makes me pay more attention - Great vids bro.
Hands down, best step-by-step instructional I have seen yet.
Old video . Loved it so I'm a new sub. 😅

The Arizona DMV classifies my Element as a “station wagon” 😂
Good vibes but No part two?

Cyl 1 need to be at TDC? Does it matter what stroke? I’m just worried about putting it back together and messing up my timing lol

Hey buddy, let me ask you a question. Do you use any kind of tool to lock the engine for the timing or not?
I bought a Honda element too while my MR2 sits neglected…..I love pain!

Great searchable video, should do well for you guys... and sooo close to 10k subs! Unreal! Congrats.
How many miles on it? I want to put a turbo on mine. Mine has 253k miles. Run great
This is a common problem as I understand it with the 2nd cylinder.
should have held on to it! Great daily and its worth like 8k now
14:10
I got a Scion xa for 500. Had bad alarm system. Fixed but found out it’s 3k rpm @60 mph. No no no. It’s gone
Thanks for the video very helpful and amusing

I wish I was this happy
What year element is that?
Big dewalt or milwaukee buzzes the crank right off.

Good video 👌🏽
Yo, plug battery back in wedge breaker bar against ground. Turn over, save back. Thank later.
Ol’ girl didnt have the steam to do the ol shin splitter method unfortunately
great vid, funny commentary

As far as what to call it, it's technically a truck. Start using that term to bother everyone else that drives a pickup.
One of the most annoying 4-bangers to pull the head on

Those intake hose clamps are 5.5mm it’s stupid AF
Very stupid lol. When I got into mine. The Phillips head part was stripped. Pissed me off lol
