Thank you!!! I couldn’t get them all because he said them so fast!!!
Thanks
You're the real MVP
@@ziggyziggy6860 Does he usually include watercress? I'm thinking maybe it varies from recitation to recitation. B/c he didn't list 'beets' in the 'rap' but they were in the "Top 5". & I think 'collards' and 'collard greens' are the exact same thing?? So maybe that should'a been "collard greens, beets, beet greens" instead of "collards, collard greens, beet greens"...just trying to write them all down! :)
His explanation on the benefits of greens was awesome, clear, and very understandable. I've never heard what he said before and should be taught in our local public schools. My family and I really need to eat more plants. I've incorporated more greens and vegetables in general but it is not easy since we've been eating junk for years. Now my husband is recovering from stroke and I'm over weight and one out of 4 of my children struggle with autism. Pray for us that we can make this transition and get healthy and stay healthy.
Shred them in the food processor, add lime juice and minced garlic and stir fry with a tiny amount of veggie broth....delicious!
That sounds good
thank you, will try
This sounds delicious!
Sounds yummy! Thanks
🤗Missbizybea, that sounds amazing!!! I'm going to try that out tomorrow... Thanks for sharing 😇
If everyone had a farther like you the world would be a better place.
It's so sweet how Jane looks at her dad as he's talking...so adoringly. She is definitely his 'mini me' and you can tell she absolutely loves him (and mom ☺️).
Essy- you're my hero.....please stop by the kitchen with Ann and Jane more often!!! We love you!
BARE-HANDING arugula! WARRIOR! I love to just munch on dark kale myself! I love him too!
yes have the whole family - bring in Rip too!
@@valnaples God i wish i loved to just munch on raw dark kale.
Your mother looks amazing. Thank you for showing just how easy it is to prepare and enjoy more greens.
regarding organic, i was told by a produce manager at a market that sells all organic only veggies and fruit that the only difference between organic and non organic is the amount of spray that is used. He said both are treated with some kind of spray. Typically the organic are treated once with a LOT of spray vs the non organic which is treated multiple times throughout the growing season. He asked me..when is the last time you saw a wormy apple in a grocery store, whether it was organic or not organic..it's been a long long time. He said, that is because both are treated
Plus, it's expensive with organic and tastes the same. I couldn't afford organic foods!
I love you all not only because you have changed my health but also because you are sweet and fun and silly and knowledgable. Thanks for another greens reminder.
I use balsamic instead of MS when roasting veggies.
Chew, chew, chew! I just love learning from Dr. Esselstyn! He's a Rock star. Thank you so much for bringing him into this video.
I just can’t get over how much the mother acts and speaks like Bette Davis 👍🏻
You are delightful as educators.
No more TV for me. Im watching y'all instead. Y'all are the best. Do not change please ❤ y'all rock
😂😂😂 I don’t have tv soo I watch this and this is the best❤❤❤
I never tire of hearing Dr. Esselstyn explain things. He is a treasure.💚
When my kids were small I told them that Brussels Sprouts were just for adults because it made them smarter, but if they didn’t tell anyone I would sneak them a few. Forbidden treats taste best, lol! They both love Brussels Sprouts now.
Lol! So cute.
Strokes run in my family and my Lipoprotein (a) was elevated and I’m 48 years old. I need to follow this life style. No one around me wants to do it, but I have to.
I wish I could go live with this family for a year❤️🤗. Thank you for doing what you all do🥰Much blessing
How is it going? I also have the crazy high lp(a). Do the extra greens help?
@@wrongworld I wish I could say I have been eating the amount of greens like they say to, but I haven’t. I did give up meat and dairy for a while, but my calcium and bun/creatinine went low. So I added back in low fat dairy and lean meats and that did help. My diet has gotten worse, eating out to much and sweets. I haven’t been taken care of myself at all. I do for everyone else and then Im exhausted to take care of myself. Im just in a rut right now, but I truly feel God is with me and Im going to get myself together. Just you asking me this question I feel was a blessing. I know I have to keep trying to take care of myself. I know for me I can’t go full vegan, but I can add more of the greens into my diet. I pray you stay well. Good luck ❤️
WOW Mr and Mrs Esselstyn are 86 yrs young and still going great. I am impressed, beautiful fsmily.
My dad passed in 93 at age 60 from his 3rd, and most massive heart attack. I wish I knew your dad many years ago! Thank you for this channel, and please give Dr. E a BIG BIG hug from me! I have already outlived my dad by a few years...and expect a lot more years to come xoxo
I can't believe that I never ate Brussel Sprouts until I went Vegan 3 years ago! Now they are my favorite vegetable!!
Goals
I bought a bag of shredded Brussels sprouts at Wegman’s and did they roasting version. I left them in until I could smell them almost burning. They are now my new potato chip! Amazing!
An old gardener advised me years ago to “treat cut greens like cut flowers”. So I keep mine in a vase on the kitchen windowsill. If the end of the stalk has already dried up and died, I’ll trim it off before putting it in the vase. Then when I start cooking I pick leaves out of the vase as I need them.
George Row I have told my husband that instead of bringing me bouquets of flowers, a bouquet of greens would do quite nicely!
Rebecca Mouse Happy Verdi-tines Day!
Wow great idea!
I wish I could, but they don't sell them in bunches where I live. There are all sorts of cabbages and lettuces that you can buy whole and sometimes andivi, kale comes pre-shredded in plastic bags (as a kid I had no idea what the plant looked like, only knew the bags and the flavour of the leaves) and most other greens they do not sell at all! I cannot get chard, collard greens, mustard greens or beet greens. I feel like we have so little variety in green leaves in the Netherlands, it makes me a bit sad...
@@firstclassstupid97 They're not so hard to grow, even in a pot in the kitchen. Arugula, especially, is a cut-and-come again veg. Once your seedlings reach a couple of inches, cut off half to eat and allow the rest to regrow.
I love the way Ann’s eye open wide when she is teaching us something wonderful ✨
for storing the greens.... put all greens/veggies in sink with water to wash/rinse. Then the trick to make them last nice and PERKY for a week or so ( if they are not eaten first by then ) is in a tray or storage drawer, place them all in (i usually have tow or three on the go) is to PLACE A WET cotton clean dishtowel on top!!!! and throughout the week re-wet it. You will be amazed and how quick and time and money saving this is and much less waste.
@susan1380 How nice to see that I do the same -Thank you!
Thanks for the video,Dr E i embraced no oil message im forever greatful i was 234lbs im down to 149,words are powerful, lets use them wisely.
I eat a pound of organic kale a day. I buy it in a 1lb bag and eat four hand fulls in my noon smoothie and the rest before dinner, steamed and put in a bowl with balsamic vinegar. Thanks Doc!
Oven roasted Brussels sprouts, halved, with maple syrup and balsamic vinegar is my family’s favorite way to eat them! I’ve never sliced or shaved them so that could be interesting.
I love this family. They are so much fun and changed my relationship with food. For the better.
Anne's a star - Love her spirit!
I love you guys! You are both goofy and wise at the same time. My favorite line is "Lord, if you're never going to eat another cherry because it's not organic, it makes me sad." VERY enjoyable and educational. Thanks for your inspiration!
Thank you so much for having Dr. Esselstyn on as a guest! He’s my hero
Your dad is awesome! Now I'm definitely chewing my greens! Keep up the great videos and your mom is so wonderful and just love how she shows so much respect to your dad!
You're so blessed to have each other... My mom passed away when I was 43...She was 73...
I’ve had brussel sprouts before that I’ve loved and I’ve had them where they had too intense flavor that I didn’t like. I’ll try the maple syrup and or balsamic in the oven. Please do more of these videos on different greens. A spotlight on different ones and how to cook them. Just like you did in this video😀
Amber Sahul the maple syrup does take away that intense flavour for sure . Am same as you 😊
Greens tip: FOR CILANTRO: remove from package and put into jar/container with the stems in water, keep refrigerated. This GREATLY extends the "fridge life" of cilantro. I sorted this out myself in the last year--yes, like they show the kale, etc. here.
ON BOILING---DRINK THE WATER!!! it's so tasty! Pot Liquor! (greens tea)
I chop up my cilantro and put in an airtight container and it lasts all week.
I blend the entire bunch in some water, pour into ice trays, freeze, add to my soups when done or throw into my smoothies. Do the same thing with parsley.
@@lucybellescott7531 i always prefer it roughly chopped, but this is a great idea for when I have some left that I know will not keep any longer, thanks!
I cut the out the roots about an inch and stick it into my potted containers with soil and they regrow again.
@@martinemeeks5065 i chop mine up and ....throw it all in the bin! hahaaaa yes im one of those people who cant taste anything but SOAP when they eat cilantro.
I love this family.Mommy is very proud of her husband 😍 Beautiful ♥️
I like to roast halved Brussels sprouts (frozen, slightly thawed to cut) with chopped butternut squash and chopped Pink Lady or other apples. There is enough sweetness in this mixture you don't need syrup or any other seasoning. I roast them at 425F on parchment for about 45 minutes.
Susan Prepejchal I stumbled across your comment, did precisely as you suggested....absolutely amazing!!! Yummy!!! Thank you for sharing. Good health to you 😊🇦🇺
interesting! gonna try.
I absolutely love hearing Dr. Esselstyn talk about health. Thanks Ann and Jane for making everything taste so good. I like Chef AJ’s recipe for brussel sprouts with dijon and balsamic.
I made them with Dijon mustard, nutritional yeast & turmeric, delicious!
Im learning so much. Im trying to reverse some health issues I have been noticing. On top of the fact that I am in my final semester of RN school and so many of my patients are Congestive heart failure or Heart failure patients. I can help with patient education with all of this information.
Omg I just love the Esselstyns. This family makes me smile almost daily. ❤️
My daughters love Brussel spouts too!!! Our favorite way is to shred them with some garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric and curry powder and roast!!!! So yummy!!! I like mine with balsamic....
It's an important point about using a mandoline. For newcomers... all you need to eat this way is a knife and a cutting board... and a pan, of course. Mainly, I'm saying thanks for showing how simple this plan is. I love the idea of drinking the cooking water instead of tea. Yum. I pretty much make one dish meals, so everything gets incorporated into the meal. I seldom 'boil' greens in water that needs to be thrown away, or used in some other way. Interesting. I hadn't even thought about that as an issue. Making one dish meals, is a great way to increase intake of all those greens and other wonderful vegis, that we (especially those new to the whole food plan) Plus I'm too lazy to make a lot of separate dishes... lol. It's been fun to include a lot of greens that I haven't tried before. Thanks for all the tips and introducing us to some fun ways to enjoy some great greens.
Doc's voice is so soothing. I could sit rapt listening to him read the phone book.
Lol
Thank you so much. I cook them in a little water for 17 minutes. But they are better made in the oven. Its such a nice plant.
You, girls, are adorable!
Jane, to one of those questions about cooking greens, I would like to suggest use an instant pot if you own one! Then you don’t have to throw away any water since your greens are steaming rather than boiling! Highly recommend getting one if you can for quickly cooking beans and lentils!
My hero! I need you Dr Essy!!❤️🙏
I cannot always a Ford organic, but I wash my vegetables with white vinegar and baking soda and water cleans them really well
So great to hear the actual science behind the 'eat more greens' message. I do not have heart disease, but it does occur in my family history, so I am now whole-food-plant-based, low SOS for prevention. My weight has normalized and I have much more energy than I did in the past, PLUS, I can eat as much as I want (and I love food) without gaining weight. Thank you for these videos, your books, and your ongoing support of plant-based lifestyles. Cheers!
I melted with the hugzzzz. ☺️ And I thought it was cute the camera had to pan up to get the Dr’s head in the frame!! Love you guys
Brussels Sprouts are my favorite next to Tuscany Kale, I purchase a large bag or at least 2 lbs. of
organic Brussels sprouts each week, and wash them in a big stainless bowl of reverse/osmosis water,
then I toss off all the dead or lose leaves and compost that. I cut in halves each sprout, spray organic
olive oil on them sprinkle with cumin, or curry powder, then bake face down at 350 degrees for 15 minutes,
with sauteed onions, and minced Tuscany kale, use vegan mayo, Veganaise with lemon juice and eat them for a meal 1 Then sometimes, I shredded the Brussels Sprouts, with other organic veggies such as REd, or Green
Cabbage, with raw red onions, shredded carrots, torn arugula, radicchio, kale, pumpkin seeds, and dried cranberries, or dried cherries both organic and soy-free Veganaise as a meal too!! I like varieties of veggies
blended together, and eaten daily !!
I tell almost everyone I know about eating 6 minute cooked greens 6 times a day! I love getting all the info!
I Love this family ❤❤❤ wishi have my own family... God Bless your well ♥️♥️♥️
Halve the sprouts then cook them in an air fryer. It softens the sprouts while crisping the outer leaves to bring out the flavor. Tossed with sesame dressing and you have a meal!
This is the first time I've seen Doc show up with the ladies. Thank you for sharing your adorable family with us all these years. I live seeing Ann's face light up when she sees her groom
this is like part 2. i think the first lecture he gave on here was called GREENS GREENS GREENS or GREENS 6X A DAY? it was a beaut too. this episode here is like a continuation of it.
I didn’t know you or your channel, I immediately subscribed. Did you see how the Dr. greeted his wife, lovely. So much love in this channel...blessings
What a great lesson, yet again, from Dr. Esselstyn. I’m new to this channel, just received the Woman Warrior cookbook and SO HAPPY I’m on my WFPB path. To true health!!
I also use balsamic vinegar, with crushed garlic and diced red onion. Then roast! Delicious.
OMGoodness!!! What an amazing family!!! What a darling family!!! 💗🙏🌺
Dr. Esselstyn is fantastic! I so enjoy hearing his wealth of educational info!
We steam and roast Brussels sprouts. And we grate them and drizzle with some Balsamic vinegar for a raw slaw. Or roast with some small red potatoes the same size with fresh rosemary. We grow green and purple ones.
Also, thank you so much, Ann and Jane, for your amazing videos. And thank you so much, Dr. Esselstyn, for replicating the heart studies!!! You are a hero, for sure.
Thank you for the encouragement to go plant based.
Love this family, especially the mom so funny 😂
Can I *like* this video five or ten times? So much to love about the Ann & Jane show-the unaffected joy of sharing their knowledge, background crashes and all!
I cut brussels sprouts in half, put them on a tray, single layer, bake for 30 minutes at 350. They blacken a little. Then I just dip them in mustard. I can barely get them to the table they're so good.
what a great idea - sounds delicious
Rats .. my oven doesn't work. Wonder if there is a miniature oven of some sort to get.
@@lucybellescott7531 I never use my oven, its all 100% toaster oven for me. I have two of them, one is $30, other is a Convection Oven as well, cost me a little more but its great.
@@lucybellescott7531 I got a $30 toaster oven on Amazon. It's the only oven I use.

Oh my gosh! You're my new idols! I've been wanting to find some women around my age that care about their health. In my little town in Humboldt County Ca. I'm the only one in my circle of friends that really watches what I eat. Looking forward to binge-watching. Blessings.
My grandfather lived to 93. Cooked Collard and mustard greens was a staple side dish growing up. He paired it with a vinegar hot pepper sauce. Delicious 😋 ❤
Dr. Esselstyn--you are wonderful!!!!!
I'd love to have Dr Esselstyn do his list of greens to a little beat. It would be a great ringtone.
It would actually 😂
Ladies I am making brussel sprouts tomorrow with balsamic vinegar, turmeric and black pepper. This is helping me a lot next I've got to get rid of the meat even though the Bible says meat is not bad for the body.
I am so grateful to you all for your efforts in starting this Channel ty so much because it is obvious that a lot of care and concern goes into these videos by Dr Essylstyn and his family have for those willing to listen and to change and I have! Ty once again! 💚
Thank you Doctor Esselstyn for your guest appearance in today’s video ❤️ I am super excited to attend the March event in Cleveland ❤️ Thank you Jane and Ann for the yummy 😋 reminder to eat more GREENS 🥬 🥦
I feel like I have a 2nd chance in my life to fix my arteries problems, thank you so much

Have been on a WFPB diet for 41/2 weeks. Can't believe the benefits!
I never get tired of watching the two of you, especially Ann! Wonderful, very informative videos EVERY time!
I cannot even express the amount of respect and admiration that I have for Dr. Esselstyn. I adore you Jane and all your videos with your mom! You just have no idea how much your specific family has impacted my life. In addition to all the wonderful intelligent plant-based physicians out there! I developed fibromyalgia in my mid 40s in my entire world was flipped upside down. I was a vegetarian and I eat a lot of cheese… As a -based vegan my world has been flipped back right side up and I have this unbelievable amount of strength, and complete recovery from a pain that fibromyalgia put on me that is unexplainable. Thank you for all that you and your family do, sincerely from the bottom of my heart. Just a simple lady out in this world grateful for your videos!!!❤️
Love seeing you both -When using aluminium foil, better to layer the foil with baking paper first. Stops aluminium touching the food and leaching, at cooking temps, into your lovely veggies x
Great idea, I’ve never ever thought about that!
One animal study showed that aged garlic extract temporarily increased blood nitric oxide levels by up to 40% within an hour of consumption.
Another test-tube study found that aged garlic extract also helped maximize the amount of nitric oxide that can be absorbed by the body
Thank you for having Dr. Esselstyn on! He is so informative and I learned so much! He also explains things so we can understand things! Hope to see more of him, by the way love you ladies as well, I’ve learned a lot from you both as well!😊🥬🍆🥦 I am a faithful follower and love your cookbook:))
thank you so much and Ann is so precious!!!
I noticed the snow out your window--you were dressed perfectly in your sweaters & scarf!!! Us, too, even down here in SC! Thanks for having Dr. E--always glean something from his wisdom!
Also, how cute is it that Ann calls our revered Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn "Essy"?
Loved that too!!
I have actually heard other vegan docs call him Essy, I believe it’s his accepted nickname
i.e.presents
Yes.
Oh, yeah; I met him and referred to him as Essy. He loves it!
What a powerful presence this man has...I’m certain I forgot to breathe whilst he was speaking. Thank you from the bottom of my strong healthy 53 year old heart xxx
Oh no, don't stop breathing, dear (wakeful apnea, eh?) -don't let him stop your strong healthy heart!
Thank you ladies!
i really enjoyed and learned so much from listening to Dr Esselstyn about eating more greens . I also like that you can cook with what you have in your kitchen, I wouldn't have to buy some huge machines to process or pressure cook. Thank you.
My hubby HATES Brussels sprouts, but walked in on the tail end of this video and said he'd give them a try if I prepared them the same way... SCORE! I eat them steamed, in the airfryer sprayed with balsamic vinegar and coconut aminos and raw shaved in salads. LOVE them!
Oh wow, she lives for her man!
i love you both so much!!
What an amazing show. The mix between cooking and nutrition is so valuable. Especially seeing that all our endothelial cells are hugely under attack at the moment. Thanks so much for posting this. I can't wait to buy your book
Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting Dr. Esselstyn get his message out! I love listening to him talk. He needs to be your guest more often. Shredded brussels sprouts are so yummy!
I'm a collard fan. With mushrooms, they make an excellent filling for tacos. And they also go very very well on pinto beans with salsa. But they don't seem to be part of traditional Mexican cuisine.
How do you cook your collard greens for the tacos? I'm new to this.

I ate kale 🥬 raw in my garden all the time :) slug 🐌 doesn’t like to eat it, it’s the most easy one to grow :) so satisfying
Cotton pillow cases work great for storing greens and mushrooms!
